  Lots of fun for the whole family

  We had lots of fun, we spent one day at the mines and the next day we tried to do as many activities as we could- wiffle ball, made pinwheels, volleyball with a giant volleyball, bingo, family relay, ice cream social and dance party. Great time, clean campground, great staff.

  Herkimer Diamond Mine KOA

  Everything you need and more

  This campground, a KOA campground, offers all you could need and more. From dry tenting sites, RV hookup sites, to elaborate and science-based cabins. They offer a children's playground, pool, little grocery store, volleyball area,  and of course, the Herkimer Diamond Mine and restaraunt, right across the street.

  Keeping in mind , it is a busy family resort during prime season and holidays, so if you're looking for a quiet, non-crowded location, this may not be the place for you (unless you try it in offseason),   but the noise did not seem too bad in the evening, and the times Ive been there, most campers did seem respectful of each other. 

  There is a beautiful river where some of the sites are located next to, where you can wade into, kayak ,  tube down, or just sit on the bank and watch the local wild life swim by . There are bathrooms and showers, although not the cleanest I've ever witnessed, but they are sufficient and helpful if needed.

  Some of the prices can be a little costly on some of the sites, but there are cheaper options on other sites as well, and with the diamond mine nearby, and all the activities that the park offers, it is definitely a park to visit, especially if you have children.

  Green Lakes State Park Campground

  "Green" Lakes

  This is a very nice campground. There are many sites with electric available at every site. There are some sites with full hook-up available and also specific areas that allow pets. Swimming is available at the large beach. You can rent a kayak and enjoy the beautiful lake. There are miles of trails to explore. There is a camp store, laundry room, recreation room, playgrounds and much more.

  The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone

  Great weekend

  Turning Stone is well maintained with nice sites. Memorial day weekend the weather is beautiful spring weather. All full hook up sites from full sun to full shade. Been coming here for 25 + years. There is the casino, dining, golf course and more near by.

  Little Sand Point - DEC

  Helpful staff and wonderful amenities

  We had to leave poplar point do to overbooking when we decided to add an extra night. We were directed down the road to Little sand point. This is another great spot on the water, but is a bit more crowded than Poplar point. However, this site offers a good beach for swimming, helpful staff to point out great hikes in the area, and they rent out kayaks for $20 for 24 hours which in my opinion is a total steal. Overall it was a good experience, but not a place I would stay long term.

  Soft Maple Campground

  Small and completely gorgeous! Beach, wooded sites, great for everyone.

  Soft Maple is a truly gorgeous small campground. Only about a dozen sites or so, first come first serve. Level sites for RVs or tent or hammock camping. Each site has a nice space with fire ring and picnic table. The beach is lovely and clean. There’s boat access for canoes and kayaks as this is part of the Beaver River route. 

  The entire campground is accessible, with gravel pack paths, and level sites.  

  Charlie is the caretaker here and everyone says he is the nicest person you’ll meet.  You can’t beat site number 11 for the perfect mix of treelined and water view!

  There is space for RVs and a dump station but the sites do not have power or hookups. 

  If you come in to the campground from “number 4 road” (aka state rt. 26) it’s exactly five miles from the Left turn on to Soft Maple rd. If you have time, stop halfway- the 2.5 mile mark will bring you to the entrance for Eagle falls, a short hike with a fantastic reveal.

  Green Lakes State Park Campground

  Has it all!

  Green Lakes has camping about 25 sites have full hook up and can handle big rigs, golf, swimming, hiking, biking,sall camp store at Pine Woods, consession stand at the beach, restaurant at the club house. Across the road is the NYS Canal Trail which goes from Buffal to Albany biking, fishing, hike, and more.

  Great Campground

  This is my first time at the campground. I was greeted by the new manager. I selected 30 amp interior full up interior full hook up back in site but they gave me an upgrade to a waterfront site. (For an interior price) . They even helped us on backing up our camper. The view took my breath away. The campground has all amenities necessary to a great camping experience, from electricity to water and sewer hookups. It also has Wi-Fi. There’s a playground and a beach area . The place is very clean and was decorated for the 4th of July festivity. They even had fireworks. I’ll recommend this place.

  Green Lakes State Park Campground

  Interesting

  A quiet clean spot. Amazing geography (Green Lakes). Well maintained. We took a site that has full hook ups (a first for us—a luxury). These sites are quite spacious. The bathhouses are fairly new and reasonably clean. The sites where we are, are landscaped with some unusual, but well placed, plants. Different. An excellent looking (we don’t golf—so only a perception) golf course resides abutting the park that has a very nice restaurant/clubhouse. There are numerous hiking/biking trails and a boat rental at Green Lake. We will return

  Green Lakes State Park Campground

  Wonderful hiking, beach, boat rentals,golf, ICE CREAM!!

  This state park campground is one of the few that offer full hook ups.

  The bathrooms have been remodeled and most are private with a toilet, shower and sink which makes this a wonderful family campground.

  The hiking includes an easy 3.1 mile loop with much shade around two glacier formed turquoise lakes ( you need to see them in person to appreciate)

  The beach area is wide and shallow in most areas. in close proximity to the store and snack shop (ICE CREAM)

  Just past the swimming area is boat rentals ($7/hr for row boat rental)

  Golfing is also available on site!

  Total Shi!-Hole.

  First let me start by saying that we are not new to rv parks or camping. We average about 10,000 miles a year in our coach.

  This particular trip is 5,000 miles over 23 days and 18 campgrounds.

  We are a “big rig”. 45 ft Class A with a 16ft tow.

  This is NOT a place for big rigs.

  We had booked a water front lot, full hookup and their most expensive lot. About $75 for the night.

  The roads and lot signs are scarce and other than handing us a very inaccurate map of the property, we were on our own.

  We damaged our rig getting to our lot. The roads and turns are not wide enough for a 45’ rig even with the tow disconnected to make turns.

  Wide enough for travel trailers and 5th wheels but not a large class a.

  The lots are also not gravel and not level. Ours was dirt and mostly mud and even with our leveling jacks down, we could not level due to the mud and lack of a gravel base.

  Ours (lot 134) was filthy. Food, cigarette butts, trash and dog shit. Not to mention a pile of mulch. Maintenance seems non existent.

  ZERO prep or cleanup was done on the site.

  Water pressure good but water reaks of chlorine. DO NOT drink the water. Made the mistake of using it for morning coffee. So much chlorine its like pool water.

  Internet very good. Only positive thing that I can say.

  Power sucks. 30amp only but not truly providing that. We kept blowing the breaker and noted our lights flickering. We can easily run on 30amp. This is typical of an overbuilt park with not enough power for the campers onsite.

  Once we were in and set, we first noted that other campers were cutting through our lot to get to the river. A constant flow of kids, adults and inner tubs all walking through our site.

  We then went to walk our dogs and had numerous encounters by dogs not on leashes. We could not leave our dogs outside on their tether's due to worrying about unattended dogs.

  The other thing is that cars and trucks were flying on the roads with no safe speed limit. It seems that they drop off tubers on the river near our lot and then the drivers fly out of here to go meet them downriver.

  This is a low class dump made up of travel trailers, tent campers and fifth wheels. No maintenance, no enforced rules. No pride in the property or operation.

  Not a place for large coach owners or seasoned RVrs who know how the rest of the country is.

  We will not be back and strongly advise any Class A big rig owners to avoid.

  Cooperstown KOA

  Nice Park

  This park is located approximately 12.5 miles from downtown Cooperstown and is set in the quiet rural countryside of New York. The mature trees make for beautiful scenery in the fall. There is a mix of sites varying from tent, RV, rental trailers, and camping cabins/cottages/lodges bringing the total number of sites to 120. Back-in and pull-thru sites are available. Site types include full hookup, water and electric, and no hookup with prices varying depending upon site. You can choose between 30/20 or 50 amp electric service. Interior roads are gravel and some site pads are gravel while others are grass. 

  The park is nicely terraced and all the sites are level. Patios were a grassy/dirt area with a picnic table and fire pit. Our site (#41) was a pull-thru but there was no way we could drive our 45’ motorhome forward out of the site because of a large tree and narrow roads. So we ended up having to back out. The free wifi worked well as did our Verizon 4G phone and hotspot. We picked up a dozen or so television channels with our antenna. The park does have a fair amount of trees that would interfere with roof-mounted satellite dishes so you would have to pick your site carefully. But, there are some 30 amp and no hook-up sites that are clear. This is a typical KOA with lots of amenities including a swimming pool(which was closed for the season when we were there), a playground, volleyball court, basketball court, jump house, pavilion, recreation room, bicycle rental, and horseshoes. Showers, restrooms and laundry are also present and clean. There is a propane filling station. While there is no fenced-in dog park there is a pet walking area. The surrounding area is pretty rural and the closest town (Richfield Springs– which is very small) is five miles away and where you will find restaurants, gas station, grocery store, and more. A few miles from the park is a creamery that has a café. 

  Approximately five miles away is Glimmerglass State Park which was great for hiking and kayaking Otsego Lake. There is a also a historic house at the park that you can tour and the country’s oldest covered bridge. Cooperstown is a little over twelve miles away from the park but well worth a trip. Not only is Cooperstown home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame but it is a charming downtown well worth exploring. Other nearby attractions include The Farmers Museum, Fenimore Art Museum, Hero’s of Baseball Wax Museum, Glimmerglass Opera, and Cooperstown Brewing Company.

  Before you make reservation

  Spent this weekend on a "full hookup site" in our class A motorhome. We used a surge protector when plugging in to electric. It wasn't long before our power kept kicking off. We contacted the office and a staff member came and advised us that they do not have enough power for all of the campsites they have and we should not have our hot water on electric. Until we get our LP fixed that is all we have so no hot water the whole weekend and our power kept kicking off the entire weekend. When we left the sewer backed up on our site when we emptied out tanks. The staff is not friendly and our site was mostly mud. Just an FYI before you go. Wish I knew these things before I made reservations.

  Old Forge Camping Resort

  The staff was not educated about the park and the sites were soft sand

  We made reservations 8 months in advance. All of our group requested 50amp pull thru as we are all class A towing with our shortest coach at 34’ and longest 45’. When we arrived and assigned sites we were given the WORNG DIRECTIONS to our sites. This is a VERY tight camp ground so 4 of us had to circle back around the entire camp ground and start over. Only 1 site was pull thru but it was so unleveled we could not put our jacks down. 5 of us had to unhook our toad then 2 of the sites were to small for our rigs. We had to go back to the office to request bigger sites. 5 sites only had 30 amp! The staff acted like the hated their jobs and the customers as well. Overall this is the worst experience I have ever had at a RV park. It took almost 2 hours (no staff interaction) for our group to set set up. Do yourself a favor keep driving don’t stop here…

  Old Forge Camping Resort

  Old Forge Camping Resort, NY

  My family and I have been visiting Old Forge Camping Resort for 20+ years. This is one of the most family friendly resorts and a perfect weekend getaway for those living in other parts of New York State. The visitors/welcome center has everything you need, including firewood, sweatshirts and homemade breakfast sandwiches. There is endless RV camping, tent camping, cabins and cottages available. Make sure you book far enough in advance. We typically book 1 year prior for the cottages.

  The bathrooms and grounds are well maintained and accessible from wherever you are in the park. There are hiking, biking and running trails galore. A volleyball court, playground and even a lake to fish or rent paddle boards. There is a bus from the campground that takes you to enchanted forest safari, which is a great way to avoid parking. Would recommend 100%

  Great place to stay

  I’ve stayed here in the pine woods loop 3 times with my family. Some sites are a bit small and some are spacious so look them up on the website. They offer electric only in that loop but have full hookups in an open area. The bathrooms are nice, new and clean. You might find a wait because they don’t have a lot of them. The lakes and beach are beautiful and there’s a nice wide trail that would be good for handicapped people as well. Great opportunities for photo ops. I highly recommend.

  Kayuta Lake Campground and Marina

  Right at the gateway to the Adirondacks, a real gem of a campground!

  We've visited this campground 6 times since we found it 4 years ago, and keep coming back for more. Easy access, great staff, well kept facilities and a beautiful setting. What more can you ask for?

  The sites themselves are a good size. They aren't huge, but you'll have enough room to get creative with your parking. Plenty of trees to hang your hammocks on. All sites have a picnic table and fire pit, and for the most part are fairly level. Not all sites have full hookups, some are just power, some are only grey water, and some are full. There are a lot of full timers here, so the grounds can look fuller than they really are as most often the majority of the full time sites are not occupied. But on big weekends, when everyone shows up, its still not too crowded.

  The facilities are modern and well kept. The only issue I had was the shower heads are at about 5'2" above the floor. I'm 6' tall. So that kinda sucked. But the pressure and temp were great, so its still a win. Plus, camping isn't really about taking showers anyways, right? Other than that the bath houses are well maintained and stocked. And they are never more than a quick walk from your camper.

  Did I mention there is a pool? There is. And its HEATED. Which is nice, as we often get up there early or late in the season, and a heated pool is a necessity. There's also a good sized playground, an arcade, and lots of games for kids (and adults) to play like basketball, shuffle board, corn hole or horse shoes.

  They have a great little shop there too, with just about everything you'd need to make a great weekend. And the staff is fantastic as well. The river is a little weird to get to, but totally worth it for kayaking, sailing or whatever kind of boating you want to do.

  So that's a lotta Pro's. I should list some Cons too, to keep it fair.

  • The sites are kinda close, so you don't get a ton of privacy, and you can really hear what's going on next door.
  • The roadways can get a little tight between the trees, and can make for some interesting backing in.
  • Also, the roadways are mostly one-way, which can make getting creative with your trailer landing position tough.
  • They offer free wifi.
  • Not all sites have full hookups
  • Personally I'm not a fan of such an abundance of full-time units. But at least they're well kept (for the most part) and it is a few degrees shy of looking like a trailer park. You know what I mean.

  Check them out, and they'll become one of your favorites too!

  The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone

  Very nice high-end camp resort for RV's and full timers or weekend warriors

  This is a nice campground. I mean really nice. Very well thought out. All sites are full hookups (i think) and paved. Definitely geared towards the RV or trailer crowd.

  Very well kept up, bathrooms are very modern and well stocked. Staff are attentive and useful, and they operate a great store with lots of options.

  For activities, there are some great hikes around the campground, as well as excellent playgrounds, fishing, an awesome pool, and of course, free shuttle rides to the Turning Stone Casino right up the street.

  The only real negatives would be the proximity to some railroad tracks, which can be somewhat active and very audible in some spots (you'll want to stay towards the south / front of the park if this kind of thing bothers you). That and some sites aren't that close to a bath house, so if you're not planning on duecing in your box, you might be looking at a longer walk than others based on where your site is.

  Brown Tract Pond Campground

  I fell in love with this place

  As I sat having by my coffee, watching steam rise from the pond, I listened to the distant calls of Loons.

  I’d describe this campground as a hidden gem, but it’s not for everyone. To get here you leave the paved road and take a gravel road a little ways. On our way we spotted a group of Turkeys wandering about. This campground is for the adventurous. No electric or water hook ups (for RVs) and no shower facilities, but there are restrooms.

  Staff was friendly and helpful. Helped me pick out a site and made sure I was good once I set up. Bring or rent a Canoe and you can travel out to an island in the middle of the pond from which families jump from a large rock into the lake.

  As the sun sets and the stars come out, you’ll look up and suddenly realize just how small you are as you stare at the heavens and see the Milky Way.

  Nothing but peace and quiet. When it’s quiet hours, the only thing you here is nature and the occasional crackle of someone’s fire.

  Would I go here again? Brown Tract is one of those places that after you go once, you find yourself going again and again. Our tripped was booked as soon as we could.

  Private and great guy sharing his land

  It is a cool place, Richard and Rick are great guys. The land they share has a pond that is very secluded. We used his power source so we were near his home and site was level for the travel trailer. Slept great each night!! Lots of trails near by for biking or hiking. Highly recommend. Property has an abundance of free firewood you can collect.

  Pros; great guys to get to know, level site, dark and private, available and free firewood, lots to hike and bike in the area.

  Cons; only con was that they were limited on water so could not dump tanks during our stay, had to travel to anothwr place, a little hassle.

  Kayuta Lake Campground and Marina

  Fun for kids

  When we pulled in, we felt like outsiders. Many people have seasonal sites and some of the activities are geared toward seasonal campers. We were excited to build a boat out of cardboard and duct tape for the Redneck Yacht Club weekend, but we later discovered that this contest was just for seasonal campers. Bummer. We are going back for Halloween weekend in August and plan to have our kids participate. I’m hoping that they will be able to. Anyway, they have a nice pool. It’s just a little small. The playground is old and outdated, but my kids didn’t seem to mind. The arcade was a bummer. Half of the games did not work. My kids are young enough that they didn’t mind. The staff is really nice. They offered a cute little wagon ride through the grounds and were always friendly and greeted you when they saw you. My five year old, husband, and Dad all signed up for laser tag. They had such an awesome time! That certainly is a fabulous amenity. We will come back for that alone because my son had so much fun. It is $10 per person but so worth it. The sites are close together. I’m used to more of a community vibe when I camp, but people seemed to keep to themselves for the most part. There are camper sites with full hookup, some with just water and electric, And a few electric only. There are also tent sites. The boat launch is kind of run down. There isn’t a dock per se, and the metal dock that is there is unstable. If they developed this area a bit, it would be much for inviting for fisherman and recreational boaters. This isn’t my favorite place, but it’s good for my kids. Very family oriented. Sorry about the people in the pics. I didn’t take any of just the grounds.

  Green Lakes State Park Campground

  Gorgeous lakes with hiking trails and nice campsites

  Full hookup camping loop is nice. Sites could be a little larger but it’s ok. Restrooms and showers could be cleaned a bit more. But I have a shower in my camper so it won’t hold me from camping there again. Lots of hiking and the beach is ok. Playgrounds are decent. Overall a nice place to camp and stores are 5-10 minutes away if you need anything.

  Popular campground with access to beach and trails

  This is an extremely popular campground, and fills up quickly in the summer, especially on holiday weekends. Many local people I know in Syracuse will even camp here on a weekend, just to get away. Recent renovations to one of the two campgrounds will allow more room and hookups for RVs, in addition to the available tent sites. Cabins are also available, including one handicap accessible cabin. At least one of the campgrounds has a playground and there is another playground by the beach.

  From the campgrounds there is access to the two miromictic lakes, one of which has a large beach area that is popular with many locals; the other is a National Natural Landmark and very scenic, but swimming is not allowed there. The trails near the lakes get very crowded but there are a total of 18 miles of trails in the park and many of them are less crowded. Trails from the campgrounds lead to a large tract of old-growth forest, a bird conservation area, and mountain biking trails. The park also has a golf course, frisbee golf course, and boat rentals and fishing access (on Green Lake near the beach)

  West Canada Creek Campground

  Wonderful camping experience!

  My wife, our 3-year old son and myself had the pleasure of spending 10 beautiful weeks at West Canada Creek Campground.

  From our first interaction to the time we left and every moment in between the owners of the campground were welcoming, kind, friendly and just overwhelming pleasant.

  Under new ownership as of Summer 2022. The new owners, Imrana and Jason, made us feel welcomed from the moment we checked in. Whether it be making recommendations for food, sightseeing or things to do in the area. Jason even went as far as stopping by our site to make sure everything was up to our satisfaction.

  The property is clean and well manicured. The camp store is well stocked. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well kept. The laundry room is clean and machines are new.

  The West Canada Creek wraps around the entire property and provides such a tranquil backdrop. The sites are surrounded by lush oaks and pines. Makes it feel as though you are truly immersed in nature. Most of the sites are fairly level, either gravel or grass.

  The campground also has a tubing business on property with an upstream shuttle as well as an ice cream stand! There is a playground with slides and swings as well as a swimming pool. There is a beach volleyball court, half court basketball and horseshoe pits.

  We stayed on three different sites (2 partial hookups, 1 full hookup). Each site was level and easily accessible.

  Throughout our 10 weeks there, we encountered dozens and dozens of guests who have been returning to this campground year after year.

  Their themed weekends and accompanying activities throughout the season are wonderful. We had the pleasure of staying for Labor Day weekend in which they had a kids carnival set up among many other things. Their Halloween weekend is truly a must see, with wagon rides and trick-or-treating! This weekend like many others fill up nearly a year in advance. Return guests reserve their spot the following year before they even check out.

  There are a number of seasonal sites with repeat guests who return year after year. Everyone we met was friendly and hospitable. The seasonal guest sites are well kept and clean and gives the campground a safe and serene atmosphere.

  The guests at the seasonal sites are invested in this campground, volunteering for the themed weekends. A vast majority of them go all out for Halloween weekend, decorating their sites and RV’s.

  Having had the opportunity to be on property for an extended time, I personally witnessed the dedication and love the owners are pouring into this campground daily. They continue to make improvements and updates that not only made our time here more enjoyable, but will certainly guarantee current and future guests will be returning year after year.

  We had a tremendous time here and would highly recommend visiting. We will certainly be returning. We are so happy to have been apart of the West Canada Creek Campground family.

  Brown Tract Pond Campground

  Nice place, weird bear rules, best for RV or trailers due to bear rules

  No cell service or WiFi. No hookups. Odd bear rules that basically make you pack up your site when not in use, unless you have a trailer or RV. No bear proof lockers to help out like federal campgrounds. Will not be back until we get a trailer or RV. Sites are nice, secluded and not packed together.

  Green Lakes State Park Campground

  Green Lakes is a model state park

  This is a great example of what a state park should be. It not only preserves a place of unique biological diversity and geologic interest, it is also well set up and well maintained to maximize low impact outdoor recreation and environmental education. A new state of the art regional environmental education center is being built now that will open in spring, as well as new handicapped access kayaking docks that complement Accessible trails and campsites throughout the park. This is a great destination for families, handicapped campers, and natural history enthusiasts. There are several campgrounds, one is large and open and meant for large RVs, others are drive-in forested tent sites or trailer sites with hookups, and several walkin sites. There is also a colony of rustic camper cabins. The campgrounds have brand new restroom facilities and playgrounds, and the main lake has a new beach house. The lake is a fascinating meromictic lake with clear calcium-rich waters that are not only pristine and beautiful to look at, but also great for swimming and snorkeling as the waters are crystal clear and very deep. There are hiking trails, paved bike trails, a nature preserve for bird watching at Round Lake, a golf course, and great kayaking or canoeing. It is also located right next door to the Erie Canal State Park for those who want to hike or bike the historic Erie Canal. Though you might expect a park like this to be in a remote location, it is actually just a short distance east of the suburbs of the Syracuse metro area, so it is an easy park to get to, plus staying there also provides easy access to stores for supplies, or access to local cultural activities or restaurants for those who want that.
