Located at 1865 Silver Lake Road, this seasonal campground operates from May 19 to September 4 and features electric hookups, picnic tables, and reservable sites. Several other pet-friendly options exist within 30 minutes, including Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday with its spacious wooded sites and AuSable Chasm Campground where dogs are permitted at tent, RV, cabin, and glamping accommodations. Campers note that while the KOA lacks a dedicated dog park, the surrounding area offers numerous pet-friendly hiking trails to exercise dogs.

The Adirondack region surrounding these campgrounds provides extensive recreational opportunities for campers with pets. Hiking trails near Whiteface Mountain welcome leashed dogs, and many campsites have direct water access where pets can cool off during summer months. Draper's Acres in Lake Placid maintains clean facilities with drinking water and trash receptacles convenient for pet waste disposal. Seasonal considerations affect pet comfort, with black flies in late spring potentially bothering both humans and animals. Most campgrounds enforce standard leash policies and quiet hours that help manage barking. Multiple reviewers mention that staff at these campgrounds are consistently friendly toward pets, though weekend crowds can make some areas less peaceful for nervous dogs.

      North Beach Campground

      Great Campground “On The Water”

I have a 24’ RV towing a 30 foot trailer for perspective. I easily fit in site 107 and lots of other sites would have worked. They have a place to drop trailers if you don’t fit.

Sites 90 to 108 are best. Spaced out under trees.

Sites 1 to 16 are close to each other.

Sites 113 to 119 are bad. Very close to each other. No redeeming qualities.

Sites have 30 amp electric and water but might need a longish cord or hose. Clean easy to use dump with water.

      Tent sites looked nice.

Short walk to nice beach or you can drive a car. Short tunnel so no campers or bikes on the roof.

Right next to rails to trails path that goes onto a causeway over the lake. There is a bike ferry to keep going. Nice ride.

Nice dog park 3/4 miles to the South on the trail.

Far away from noise. Can’t comment on loud campers.

      Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday

      Great Area

We visited this campground twice this summer after the switchover to KOA. They had lots of activities to take back to the campsite for rainy days. They do not have a dog park and this caused our pup to get a bit hyper.

      Meadowbrook Campground

Conveniently Located, but a bit Noisy

This is a very basic campground situated in a small village in the Adirondacks – situated between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. Every site has a picnic table and an open fire grill and most of the sites on the outer ring have a lot of privacy as they are lined with trees and shrubs. Lots of spaces for larger RV’s, but we saw mostly tent campers.

Bathrooms are mostly clean and the showers are nice. There is a quality dishwashing sink by the bathrooms. Overall, the campground is ok, but needs a bit of a facelift, repainting, etc. Also, you can hear the sounds of the city (cars, leaf blowers, and other things that remind you that you are not truly in the woods).

The best part about this campground is that it is conveniently located between two awesome places and is relatively inexpensive, so if you don’t plan to spend much time in the campground itself, it’s perfect.

We used this campground as a basecamp to mountain bike on an awesome trail just outside of Saranac Lake, the Bloomingdale Bog trail. The following day, we did a quadrathlon that involved kayaking the length of Lake Placid, hiking to the summit of Whiteface Mountain, kayaking back, and then finished the day at Lake Placid Pub and Brewery for dinner. Highly recommended, but plan on a 9-10 hour day on the lake/trail!

With its central location, this campground is close to everything you may need, most even within walking distance.

      Pine Ridge Park Campsite

Family with kids get away location

This campground has the best staff you can find in northern New York. The whole time they are open they have activities planned for the kids all summer long. The staff is always smiling and welcoming you into the campground. Quiet and comfortable place to stay. If your kids like to read. There is place they can find a book and read a book.

      Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday

This is a good place to sleep, but not much more to it

To start off, we are avid KOA campers. So when we looked at this campground, we expected the typical layout which had a swimming pool and other stuff for the kids, however, this campground lacked all of the above. When we arrived here, check-in was easy we did drive along ways to get to our campsite which was nice to be wooded, but I did miss the typical activities and KOA usually has which when I booked the site, I usually expect them since the prices usually, fairly high compared to state parks. Our main reason for seeing KA versus state parks for these extra activities. With that said the bathrooms were clean, which we barely use since we have a full hook up camper. The dog park was very small and it looked like they did the very minimum to check the block. If you’re looking for a place to run your little guy around, he might be disappointed at this place. However, there are plenty hikes nearby to wear them out if you desire. As far as location, there is a lot of stuff to do in the area as we went and hike, the mountain, which was amazing.

      Valcour Island

      Valcour Island

I've camped on Valcour all my life since I was 7. It was amazing. So beautiful. Now it's covered in cockroaches and the water is murky and everything is covered in Zebra muscles. Other campers are rude and have no respect for your property. Has been all Canadians from my experience. They let their pets on the island to defecate and we've had one let their two large dogs swim ashore from their yacht and urinate on all our tents and destroyed our campsite and stole our food off from the picnic table all while the owners watched and laughed it off from their boat. The dogs then swam back and boarded the boat and they left. It's not like it used to be. We were yelling at them the whole time, trying to get the dogs away from our campsite and the owners didn't even apologize. One of the dogs defecated on my son's clothing that has fallen off the line.

      Cumberland Bay State Park Campground

Great beach area, lots to do!

The Cumberland Bay State Park in New York is a great place to go and relax. If you like the beach scene, swimming, or having a picnic, then you will enjoy this park. I come here quite often to kayak, and my friends and I also like to get a game of volleyball going on the court they have within the park. During the summer months (and especially on hot days), you will find that this park is pretty busy. You can always find a little spot to put your stuff, though. Kayaking is probably one of my favorite things to do, and the lake is perfect for this. The park itself is located on Lake Champlain. You also have the option to camp overnight if you wish...I have only done this once because I wanted to get up and kayak for the sunrise! The park does provide picnic tables, restrooms and showers. I find that the restrooms and showers and pretty clean....there have been a few times that the stall I am using doesn't have toilet paper. So I would suggest checking your stall first before you sit down on the toilet :). One of my favorite parts about this park, is in the distance you can see the beautiful mountains, Adirondacks and other gorgeous views. There are also some good hiking trails nearby that you can get to by car. I would say there are trails within 5-10 miles away. All in all, a great place to come and relax!

      Shady Oaks Camping Resort

      Great Place for Big Rigs

Mostly Seasonal area with some overnight spots. No tents allowed. But pet friendly. Small but clean areas with electric at each site. Has some benches outside, a small pool, playground, and community of seasonal campers. I think there was only a few overnighters.

    Guide to Au Sable Forks

Taylor Pond Campground occupies a natural setting between the West Branch Ausable River and Taylor Pond, with several sites offering water access. Located at 1865 Silver Lake Road in Ausable Forks, this campground sits at approximately 1,500 feet elevation in the northeastern Adirondacks. The area experiences cool summer nights with temperatures typically dropping into the 50s, even during July and August.

    What to do

Hiking from camp: Access trails directly from Wilmington Notch Campground where "There is an accessible trail from the back of the campground to an amazing waterfall on the west branch of the Ausable River and plenty of spots to trout fish/swim. A mile down the road is flume falls trails, which leads to a great swimming hole and various height choice cliff jumping" according to Zachary M.

Water activities: At AuSable Point Campground, campers find "Beautiful views everywhere you go" as LauraandJosh W. notes. The campground sits "at the mouth of the Ausable river and marsh" creating opportunities for wildlife viewing. Kimberly R. recommends "a river site or beach site" for the best water access.

Explore nearby attractions: The region's unique geology creates recreational opportunities beyond campgrounds. "Ausable Chasm is directly across the street from the campground and it is very close to the ferry that will take you to Burlington, VT," notes Lee D. about Ausable Chasm Campground, creating easy day trip options.

    What campers like

Private wooded sites: At Taylor Pond, campers appreciate the natural separation between sites. As Steph notes, "Sites are pretty small and close together but overall the campground is excellent. The camp host is spectacular and it is extremely well maintained for a primitive area."

Clean facilities: While rustic, the region's campgrounds maintain good standards. Brett N. found that at Draper's Acres "Both bath houses were adequate, even containing shampoo and body wash. Staff was friendly... Prices were more than fair for what was provided."

Location convenience: Many campgrounds provide strategic access to regional attractions. At Draper's Acres, Mara S. highlights "Great cell reception with Verizon; what more do you need. Yes, there is road noise. Trade off for the closeness to ADK trailheads." Jennifer O. adds it's "Close to hiking and Lake Placid!"

    What you should know

Site selection matters: Not all sites offer equal experiences. At Wilmington Notch, Meag F. advises to "be sure to reserve to get a prime spot. I took my own TP (you never know with some parks) and I am glad I did."

Seasonal considerations: Late spring through early summer presents challenges. Natalie N. notes that "They don't pick up the phone right away so call a few times to get ahold of someone" when booking sites at Draper's Acres during peak season.

Weather preparedness: The Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday area can experience significant temperature fluctuations. Kristine B. mentions that during her stay she "Used the pool at the resort once (a little chilly)," indicating cooler temperatures even during summer months.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Family campers appreciate dedicated play areas. Ashley R. reports that Macomb Reservation State Park has "nice bathrooms not much for kids to do but a good campsite," so pack activities for children.

Swimming opportunities: Zachary M. found that Wilmington Notch offers "a great swimming hole and various height choice cliff jumping," though parents should supervise children closely at natural water features.

Campground atmosphere: The Grand Isle State Park Campground across Lake Champlain provides "a cute little beach and nature center with youth programs," according to Jessica G., who found it to be "a quiet, family friendly campground."

    Tips from RVers

Site access considerations: RVers should research access routes carefully. Nancy W. found at Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday that "The roads are really tight for big rigs. Between the trees, rocks, and low hanging branches, you have to take it really slow. I recommend unhooking your tow car at check-in so you are free to back up."

Hookup options: Water and electrical availability varies significantly between campgrounds. Jennifer O. describes Draper's Acres as having "a full hookup, pull through site surrounded by trees. There was some road noise during the day but it was nice and quiet at night."

Road conditions: Many campground access roads are unpaved. Brian P. warns about Ausable Chasm Campground having a "road into the campground is more like a goat trail, with numerous washouts and uneven rocks and dirt," suggesting caution especially for larger vehicles.
