Morgan Hill State Forest's dispersed camping areas welcome pets throughout the 5,000+ acres of woodland trails and primitive campsites. Pet owners can backpack into the forest on the Onondaga Trail, setting up camp away from water sources and following Leave No Trace principles. Morgan Hill Forest—Onondaga Trailhead campground offers several basic tent spots adjacent to a trailhead parking circle, plus two developed campsites with cement pads, picnic tables, and fire pits where campers with dogs can drive directly to their site. Yellow Lantern Kampground and Green Lakes State Park Campground also maintain pet-friendly policies across their tent sites, RV spots, and cabins. The woods surrounding Morgan Hill trails are beautiful but require tick prevention for dogs, especially during spring and early summer.

Several trails throughout the area provide excellent hiking opportunities with dogs, including the Finger Lakes Trail which crosses through Bucks Brook State Forest where primitive tent sites are accessible via hiking trails. The Onondaga Trail branch of the National North Country Scenic Trail offers peaceful camping with mature trees and plenty of distance between neighboring campers with pets. A day hike west on the trail leads to Tinker Falls, providing a scenic destination for dog walkers. Before visiting Morgan Hill State Forest with pets, campers should download forest maps as the trail network can be confusing without proper navigation tools. Campers should bring their own water for themselves and their pets, as no water sources are provided at the primitive sites, and be prepared to pack out all waste.

      Finger Lakes RV Resort

      Just as advertised

Wonderful location and marvelous hosts. We were welcomed with chocolate chip cookies as we checked in. Bathrooms were beautiful and clean. Two wineries we could walk to and dozens more nearby. Our site was spacious and the dog park gave our pups plenty of time off leash. We definitely plan on returning.

      Pinecreek Campground

Beautiful Park, beautiful area could be so much more with a little effort!

Pinecreek is a beautiful park in a great area 10 minutes from downtown Ithica New York and Lake Cayuga. The area has everything you could possibly want or need. Fabulous State Parks with spectacular waterfalls, a farmers market right on the lake front, Cornell University and so much more. That being said it may be the reason the campground doesn't offer any planned activities. They do have a swimming pool and what appears to be a large clubhouse/meeting area that is not or was not used while we were there, nor were any activities publicized. They do have a small arcade but it did not stay open past 8 pm and did not appear to be air-conditioned.

Our campsite was a full hookup with a large grassy area for setting up our outside chairs and picnic table. Although we enjoyed our stay we felt it was a bit overpriced for not having much to offer. They also have a very long list of rules & while they do allow pets there is a list of breed restrictions you need to be aware of before booking a reservation. They also charge for electricity on any stays one week or longer which we had not encountered previously at campgrounds where we have stayed.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but not sure we would stay again.

      Delta Lake State Park Campground

      Delta Lake State Park

Delta Lake State Park sits at the foothills of the Adirondack Park, just outside Rome, New York. Pretty and well-kempt, Delta Lake is a nice option for those looking to stay close to home and within proximity to civilization. You can enjoy the great outdoors, while only being a few miles away from a restaurant or grocery store.

The campground isn‘t the best I’ve experienced, a bit on the crowded side-similar to a woodsy suburb- but this could have been distinctive to Loop A where I stayed. I stayed in site 35 and was intermixed with all the campers and RV’s, so it got a bit noisy. Not that restful, secluded experience I typically go for, but I should have planned further in advance.

However, what the park lacked in terms of its campground, it totally made up for in its beach, swimming and picnic areas! This place was awesome for hosting a birthday party for my niece and relaxing at the beach/ day facilities. They have plenty of picnic tables, charcoal grills, a huge beach and locker rooms. This is really a great place to spend a day with your family!

      Bowman Lake State Park Campground

      A dump

New York State pretty much has abandoned this park. Trees fallen down across the sites. Might be ok for a tent but that’s all.

Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

Robert H. Treman State Park, NY

Located in Tompkins County, Ithaca New York has beautiful gorges and hiking trails. Robert Treman is a treat and a gorgeous place to camp in the Ithaca, NY area. There are endless waterfalls, hiking trails, fishing holes and bird watching opportunities. The campground has bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, a playground and a dump station. There are cabins, tents and rv sites, some of which are handicapped accessible. Ithaca is also packed with wineries and the finger lakes. A great place to visit!

      Taughannock Falls State Park Campground

      Taughannock has Everything!

Taughannock Falls State Park is one of my favorite parks in New York. The camp grounds are excellent, there are TONS of trails nearby, the swimming area of the lake is close, and the water is very clean. The crown jewel of the place is Taughannock Falls, which is a short flat hike to one of the tallest single drop waterfalls on the east coast. It really is quite the sight. There are cool playgrounds for the kids, grills, restrooms, showers, and plenty of activities to do, such as stand up paddle boarding. Taughannock has it going on, and I will be back!

      Pinecreek Campground

Close to Ithaca and Cayuga Parks

This is a campground set in a nice forest location, but close by to Treman State Park and Ithaca, so a good base for day trips. They offer mostly RV camping, but do have a substantial area for tent camping and  also have nice some rustic camper cabins as well as cottages and regular full service cabins. For families who enjoy neighbors, this is a good campground. Lots of families, lots of kids riding bikes and doing activities, nice kid-friendly fishing pond, lots of open space for ball games etc. There is even an offleash dog park so Fido can come along and have fun.  This is a busier campground than I ordinarily would have chosen as a tent camper, but I was joining friends for a cabin stay on Labor Day weekend as nearby state park campgrounds were full. The whole grounds are well maintained and well landscaped, they did have some scheduled activities, and the pool looked sparkling clean. The cabin we stayed in was very nice, and set back into the woods along a small river and with good access to hiking trails. The camper cabins looked brand new, and I spoke to a family staying in one and they really liked it. My friends son loved the fishing, swimming, and meeting other kids to play with. The campground was not noisy for the size, and though it was large and nearly full everything was nice and all the campers respectful of each others space. Ithaca is not far for activities and supplies, and there are many local state parks that are easy to get to. I would rather camp right in a state park but this would be a great alternative especially for folks with RVs

    Guide to Apulia Station

The central New York region surrounding Apulia Station sits at approximately 1,250 feet elevation in the Appalachian Upland, featuring rolling hills and scenic valleys with numerous streams. The Morgan Hill State Forest area includes over 5,000 acres with various camping options ranging from drive-up sites with cement pads to remote backcountry locations.

    What to do

Hiking accessible trails: Green Lakes State Park Campground offers miles of trails with varying difficulties for hikers with dogs. "The hike around the lake is about 2 miles and it totally worth it! Plenty of picnic areas as well," notes Meag F., who appreciates the unique blue-green waters that give the park its name.

Swimming at natural areas: Fillmore Glen State Park Campground maintains a natural swimming pool with lifeguard supervision during summer months. According to Cindy H., "This is a very nice campground. There are many sites with electric available at every site... Swimming is available at the large beach. You can rent a kayak and enjoy the beautiful lake."

Kayaking on glacial lakes: Woonton Family Farms provides access to water recreation with canoe opportunities. Willemien V. reports, "We had a great campfire, fresh blackberries and the option of canoeing. Close to the nice village Skaneateles. It was a welcome difference from the common/look-alike campgrounds everywhere else."

    What campers like

Private camping areas: Morgan Hill Forest—Onondaga Trailhead campground offers secluded sites away from crowds. Janet R. explains, "This location is peaceful and quiet with mature trees and plenty of distance between neighboring campers, and would be an ideal setting for a group campout."

Clean facilities: Many campers appreciate the well-maintained bathrooms at Fillmore Glen State Park. "Bathrooms are very clean and close to all campsites. Kids loved the park and swimming in the waterfall beach," writes Charyssa G., highlighting the family-friendly environment.

Natural features: Stoney Pond State Forest Camping Area provides access to a small pond perfect for non-motorized boats. Janet R. describes it as "pretty with mature shade trees, and the campground also has a trailhead to access a large network of hiking trails. If you want to backpack in, dispersed camping is allowed throughout the forest."

    What you should know

Water availability: At most primitive sites, no potable water is provided. A reviewer of Morgan Hill State Forest Dispersed camping notes you need to "bring your own water, there is none provided here, and be prepared to pack out your own garbage."

Reservation requirements: While dispersed camping in state forests is generally free without reservations, established campgrounds like Green Lakes State Park require booking ahead. "This is a very nice campground. There are many sites with electric available at every site. There are some sites with full hook-up available and also specific areas that allow pets," explains Cindy H.

Seasonal considerations: Many campgrounds in the area operate seasonally, typically from May through October. According to Chelsea B. at Green Lakes State Park, "I can't say much about the amenities since we camped in the off season (really bummed not to rent a boat), but the trails around the lake are great!"

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Green Lakes State Park offers excellent play areas for children near swimming areas. Sara H. mentions, "Beach is great... Fun hiking area the water is gorgeous. Great playgrounds. Bathrooms and showers were very clean."

Educational opportunities: At Fillmore Glen State Park, families can explore the replica of President Millard Fillmore's youth cabin. Brian O. shares, "There is a cabin on site that is the replica of Millard Filmore's youth (13th President of the United States). Loved the area and the beautiful scenery on the hiking trails."

Swimming options for kids: Multiple campgrounds feature swimming areas suitable for families with children. At Green Lakes State Park, Kenneth S. raves, "This park is beautiful and very clean. The water is Crystal clear and very blue, you will think you are in the Caribbean Islands."

    Tips for RVers

Hookup availability: Yellow Lantern Kampground provides full hookup sites for RVs in a pet-friendly environment. MacKenzi G. reports, "Me and my husband stayed here to visit a local friend and it wasn't bad it was very private and quiet. The property was well maintained and the owners were very friendly as well."

Site dimensions: Some campgrounds offer limited space for larger rigs. At Stoney Pond State Forest Camping Area, Janet R. notes, "Site number 1 is quite flat and open and could accomodate a trailer or camper van but isnt very scenic. The other sites are great for tenting but the drive-ins are variable."

Seasonal restrictions: Many RV-friendly campgrounds in the Apulia Station area close during winter months. John D. mentions that Cortlands Country Music Park and Campground has "Electric and water at site" but visitors should check seasonal availability as not all amenities operate year-round.
