    Angel Fire RV Resort

    Spacious, clean, luxurious!

Very nice RV resort! Full hookup, concrete level pads, huge pull thru sites, great for large rigs. A lot of amenities: playground, tennis courts, hot tub, pool, clubhouse. Very polite and attentive personnel! Only a few miles (10min driving) from the ski slopes. If winter camping - heated water hose is highly recommended! During especially chilly nights be prepared to fill up your fresh water tank and turn off and disconnect the hose from the external water supply! If it is frozen overnight, you will be subject to $150 fee.

    Angel Fire RV Resort

This review is for the Angel Fire RV Resort. This is one thing to of the most beautiful RV resorts where we’ve ever stayed. It’s the Four Seasons of RV resorts. It sits at the base of a mountain pass with beautiful views.

The hot tub is clean and also has beautiful views. The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are more beautiful than those found in the average home.

Two “lodge” buildings provide space for activities such as movies for kids and adults. They make it a point to connect campers who want to meet others staying in the park with social evens such as “wake up waffles”.

They have an arrangement that allows campers to use recreational facilities in town such as the pool. Walk around the lake, rent a canoe, kids activities (bungie bouncing, rock climbing).

RV resort. On the expensive side, but very nice park. Spacious sites, great views of surrounding mountains. All RVs must be self contained (kitchen, bathroom, shower, etc.). Free activities each night at club house. Close to Taos and various ski resorts in area.

    Innaccurate Coordinates and location

The coordinates listed on "the dyrt" (36.38705487228697,-105.27684030781722) is actually a different campground, the Angel Fire Resort (the actual Ski and MTB resort) Campground, which is a "dry" campground with port-a-potties that is located on the corner of Vail Avenue and Squaw Valley Lane). This is a very different place and experience from the Angel Fire RV Resort.

If you go to Angel Fire RV Resort website, it lists the coordinates as 36.4237, -105.30983 and is located on US Hwy 64, just west of Mountain View Blvd.

    Nice spot to stay!

We needed a spot to stay and found a happy location at Hikers Cimarron Inn & RV Park. Their reservation system on their website was easy to use and navigate. The RV spots are level gravel, sites are close together with minimal privacy but convenient to grocery store and restaurants - within a short walk. Owners were friendly and helpful. Bathrooms had showers and were clean but spartan and totally functional.

    Lovely view of mountains!

Very large rv park with full hookups, showers, laundry, and community building. Was not busy when we were here, so we did not have anyone next to us, but the sites are very close to each other. The lake and boat launch are just down the road. Set off the main highway enough that you don't hear alot of traffic noise. Staff were very nice and accommodating. Wonderful views of the mountains.

    Small and Tight RV Park

This is an RV park that has Overnight ($35), Weekly ($125), and Monthly ($400). They have water, sewer, electricity hookups included with the prices. Also included is cable. Showers are near the entrance and also trash cans. All spots are closed to each other so no privacy. Most of the RV’s where fifth wheels and Buses. Mostly older people. It’s just 1 min from Walmart and the dollar store.

    2021 Updates

4 star because the office lady was very nice. This place has converted to exclusively taking motorhomes and 5th wheel campers only. So for those of us doing the dirtbag/van life/teardrop camper thing to go snowboarding/skiing/bike park this RV park is not an option. The office lady suggested trying Monte Verde, I will investigate and update!! In summer there are other state parks and national forest campgrounds within reach of Angle Fire Resort.

    Fantastic place

We spent our maiden voyage as RVers at this campground and were blown away by how nice the place is. It’s definitely way better than I imagined an RV park could be. Everything is pristine including the bathrooms and showers. The landscaping is impeccable and the space between spots pretty spacious. Hookups were also pristine. Highly recommend putting this on your list to stay at.

    Great Views and quiet

Great spot that is quiet and has great view of lake and Mountains all around. Cool at night and just right during day. All the RV parks around here that have good reviews are way too close together. I am glad I didn’t go by the reviews as the trailers are almost touching. There is no water or electricity on site but water is available in the park. First time dry camping and it was great with no problems. Close to Red River and Angel Fire and Taos.

    Winter Stay

Brought my teardrop camper to do a couple days at Angel Fire. RV park is about 5min from the AF parking lot. Multiple hookup options can accommodate any size camper. Pull thru and back in spaces. Water at site. Bathroom/Shower house small but very clean. Self check-in (covid) was simple. It was a mid-week, winter stay so they were very chill and not strict about check-in/out. That being said, don't be a jerk to them either. Will definitely stay again.

    Pretty run down!

Not much of an RV Park as it it mostly monthly's and storage spots. If you can boondock, stay at the Walmart just up the road. If want to stay longer, try Storrie Lake State Park about a mile north. Better place and cheaper.

Nice but would be better in spring/fall

I came in on a Saturday and stayed three nights in the electric area. I reserved the last electric site which turned out to be wheelchair accessible. I hadn't seen that when making the res.It was bigger and off to the side, away from the row of RV park style sites.   I rode my bike around and saw that the primitive sites where really nice, up on the ridges and some had water, most had covered picnic tables. Pretty area. But the electric area on Sat and Sun was noisy. Someone decided on Saturday that the whole loop would enjoy his favorite style of music. How can some people think all the rest of us are going to enjoy their music? Ticks me off. I hope their rig burns down. Can you believe he actually started to sing along!

    Nice and cozy

It has 60 RV Spots with hookups, 2 tent areas and some cabins. A playground, pool (closed due to Covid), dog run area and volleyball. The campground is very nice and clean but not too much to do around. They do however have a little store and gift shop and a game room.

    A nicer KOA

4/5/2021 Right off the highway. One of the nicer KOA's we have stayed at in the Southwest. True, the sites are close together which is typical at KOA's but this campground had lots of established trees which was nice (meaning shade). Many pull through sites. Full hookups. One of the unique things is they provide a full breakfast for a very nominal cost which got us going and out quickly. Pancakes, Eggs, Potatoes (with green chilis). It was really tasty. Despite being right off the highway it is quiet. Playground for kids. They are clearly working on improving and updating the sites. Fresh gravel. Looked very clean and well kept. The short dirt road was a little rough between the interstate and the entrance.  We were welcomed warmly and felt appreciated. We would stay here again.

    Great Little RV Park

We had 50 amp, full hookups and stayed for a week. Stable power, good water pressure and threaded sewer connectors. The sites are level, decently spaced and easy to access. The wonderful lady that runs the place (Marti) is warm, friendly and very appreciative of business. If you’re in the area, I recommend staying here. If you’re close by, I’d recommend the same!

Laundry available. Marti is a great owner/host. Views are awesome, price is reasonable at under $200/week.

Tolby Campground — Cimarron Canyon State Park

    Beautiful Cimarron Canyon

Cimarron Canton State Park is a wonderful place to stay, right on the Cimarron River. Bring your fishing gear and license for some relaxing fishing. Some of the sites are immediately adjacent to the river. My favorite campground is Tolby, the Westernmost. It has a Ranger/Information Station in the east end of the campground. It has flush toilets and sinks, but no shower. This is my favorite, because I love to hike and backpack. Just south across Highway 64 from the campground entrance is the Tolby Trailhead. The Tolby Trail takes you all the way back to Tolby Meadow on an excellent trail. A good spot for overnight tent camping. Tolby campground is also just minutes from Eagle Nest, NM and within easy range of Angel Fire, Red River, and a little less than an hour from Taos.

There are two other campgrounds for RVs, Maverick and Ponderosa, as well as one more for tent camping. Maverick sits right next to a pair of gravel pit lakes for added Fishing opportunities. Ponderosa is across the street from that, but is more like a parking lot with painted camping slots around its perimeter.

In the town of Cimarron I recommend dining at the Historic St. James hotel (very haunted) or lunch at the Creemee. Stop in at the headquarters of Philmont Scout Ranch for the National Scounting Museum and a Tour of the Villa Philimonte (Waite Phillips’ mansion). Also recommended is the Tooth of Time Traders at Philmont. It’s a camping/hiking store that is like an REI.

If you’re coming via Raton, the Colfax Tavern between Raton and Cimarron at Cold Beer New Mexico is a great place to stop for food and drinks.

Tolby Campground — Cimarron Canyon State Park

    Amazing!

I grew up going to this campsite almost every summer, so this review may be a little biased. The campsites are great, specially for tent camping. There are some big spots for RVs but those get pulled quickly. The campsites are a little close together, but I have never had any problems. The facilities are nice enough as well.

This campsite sits on the edge of a road next to two little ponds that are great for trout fishing. The river runs next to the ponds and you can find a few fish there too. I like to walk up and down the river to find some good spots that are a little quieter. The ponds fill up with quite a few people now.

You will need to bring everything you need. There are not any stores really close by, you will have to go to Cimarron ot Eagle Nest to stock on supplies if you are missing anything and they can be 30 minutes away. There are also no big box stores in these towns so things close down early.

    Mills Canyon Campground

    Overrun by inconsiderate campers

I give this campground 2 stars - one because it is a lovely spot and two, because it is well-maintained considering its remoteness. The other 2-3 stars it may well have deserved were blacked out by the sheer numbers of outright rude and inconsiderate campers.

The drive into the canyon is, indeed, bumpy but doable in a high-clearance car or SUV. There is no cell service. The campground is near the river but does not have river access - it is possible to get to it but the stickers make it extremely uncomfortable, especially if your bring your pooches. There are some places to walk and see both the ruins of the Mills orchard homestead, as well as access the river, but walking was made very unpleasant by the numbers of trucks, ATVs, and motorcycles zooming by - very loud and lots of dirt in the eyes and mouth.

Not sure if it's the "COVID camping" phenomena but the campground was full to near-full the 3 days, 2 nights we camped there. During that time there were multiple very large groups (10-16 people) of people pulling in and out. One group from Texas brought along very loud 50cc motorcycles and large ATV/Side by sides for their kids, who would make rounds around the campground loop, sending plumes of fine dirt into all of the campgrounds around the loop, not to mention the noise. Another large group of trucks from Texas pulled into the campsite next to ours and literally drove 6 vehicles into the actual camping spot and proceeded to then set up tents all the way into my spot -- loud music, loud talking, loud wood chopping, 4:30 am trucks in and out (I suppose they were driving to the bathroom, which was about a 2 minute walk away). I was forced to sleep in my car, instead of my tent thanks to the noise and the fact that I was not comfortable sleeping with a bunch of strangers who didn't seem to care that I had already set up there. As I packed up the next day and was checking my campground for trash I noticed theirs was strewn with it - I considered cleaning it until I noticed it was mostly used toilet paper.

Camping in New Mexico is amazing and one of the reasons I live here. I don't understand why people need to come to the middle of nowhere to be obnoxious, ruin the experience for everyone else, and trash the place in the process.

Until the COVID camping phenomena ends, expect the worst.

Nice location, very close RV sites

Cute campground and they are doing a lot of work to the streets and tent sites. However, as others have said, the electric hookup RV sites are right on top of each other. We were awakened on the middle of the night to our neighbor’s son coughing and crying. They do have electric and water (one spicket shared between 2 sites). The water is very low flow. They have an RV dump area with water in the non electric camping area. There is a cute 1 mile trail to the mountain being the coyote creek.

    Easy access, Level, No services

Easy road in from I25. Basically a big level parking lot with sites on the outer loop that easily accommodate big rigs. One side has a view of the mountains. The other side has a view of the forest and creek. No power. No water hookups but there is a central spigot that can be used to refill. No black dump anywhere in the park. Good Verizon and T-Mobile signal. Cool weather even in July. Despite the negatives I loved the area. NOTE - most park trails are closed until the end of July due to calving season.

We stayed here primarily because it was on our route to Northern New Mexico and Colorado. It was exactly as we expected and we enjoyed an overnight here in June. Very isolated location between Tucumcari and Las Vegas, New Mexico, but that was our intended route. Marginal highway, but almost no traffic.
