The Camp @ Cloudcroft RV Park

    Excellent

This place is a hidden treasure. Located at about 6500 feet elevation on the eastern slope of the Sacramento Mountains this campground is a perfect launching pad for daytrips to many local attractions. The Rio Penasco River runs right through the park and offers the opportunity to catch a trout or 2. Local Mule deer and turkeys are no strangers here and visit frequently. The WiFi is good but cell signal is hard to come by. There is a nice Cafe in Mayhill, as well as a convenience store and gas station about 2 blocks from the campground. The campground is open year round and caters to hunters in the Fall. The campground is family friendly and offers live music at times during the summer months. The managers Bennie and Yolanda are top notch and always at your service. That being said my wife and I came here last November and have been here ever since as Camp Hosts. We just love it here.

    Silver Campground

    Love this campground!

Beautiful scenery with huge tall trees. Site was spacious with fire rings and picnic table. Lots of hiking trails. Dump station and potable water fill area, but not at site. Dry camping only. $5 showers. Didn’t take reservations, but do have overflow area that is a huge parking lot. It could take a lot of “overflow”. There was still snow on the ground in mid April. No AT&T coverage, but Sprint worked. There were some steep grades getting there with tight turns. Fine for our Class B, but a big rig would probably be sweating. Concrete and grass RV pad. We used site 21 and backed up to the woods. Very cool. Bear country too, but didn’t see any

    Boot Hill RV Resort

    Convenient Location

We were able to get in last minute for a two night stay.  We stayed in Site 604.  Pull through, level spot.  Very close to neighbor RVs.  But, nice and quiet.  Dogs enjoyed the fenced dog park (although gravel). Full Hookups.

Location great for White Sands National Park, Cloudcroft, NM (Brewery up there at 9000 ft) and Las Cruces, NM.

The Camp @ Cloudcroft RV Park

    Wonderful campground.

Owners and managers are helpful, informative, gracious folks. Campsites are level, pull through with full hookups. The location is terrific for wildlife watching, day trips to historically interesting sites, and campground living. Facilities are clean and well cared for. Our number one choice for all seasons camping.

    Pine Ridge RV Campground

    Not for families

Scenic and wooded, but was hoping for more privacy. Sites very tightly packed, I could literally reach out my window and touch the neighbor’s awning. 30 amp at my site didn’t work, used 50 amp w/adapter so not a big deal but annoying. The demographic here is older, mostly retirees here for extended stays. Stayed 3 nights, did not see (or hear) any kids other than our own, didn’t see anyone under 45 other than us either so not the best place for kids/families. It it’s also very tight driving through with a trailer and very tricky backing into the sites due to hills and tight sites. Location pretty good, 3 min to Walmart, 15 min to grindstone lake, etc. NO fires allowed, regardless of any local burn bans in place or not... bummer.

Cloud Climbing Railroad Cabin and RV Park

    Perfect little gem

Super friendly owners. A beautiful and picturesque location in the Sacramento mountains. Easy in and out just a few miles from the village of Cloudcroft in the heart of the Lincoln National Forest. On property hiking trail, and an excellent common areas. Fruit trees abound, and picking fruit is allowed in season. They also have a cabin with multiple rental rooms. Full RV hookups and wifi at very reasonable rates. It is close to the road, but traffic is minimal at night. They are open year round!

    Valley Of Fires Recreation Area

    Amazing Carrizozo Lava flow camping!

This BML maintained campground is like new! There are no reservations, so it’s first come. An iron ranger for payment is at the entrance, but there is also a nice ranger on site who drives around the campground in a ute. I camped in a pull through site a few up from the entrance, but there was very little road noise from Highway 380, which is a beautiful drive. Most camp sites have electric, paved pads, covered picnic tables and fire rings. RV dump is also on site. Camping with electric is $18 and Dump station costs $15. It also costs $6 to take a shower. I didn’t visit the bath house, but like everything at this campground it looked maintained.

The highlight for me was the location, the experience of camping next to this extraordinary geologic site, and the 3/4 mile Malpais Nature Trail that offers a boardwalk style hike through the lava flow.

Quiet camping with distant views of White Sands Missile testing area, Little Black Peak and amazing stars!

What to do

Mountain hiking trails: Access multiple trailheads directly from Midtown Mountain Campground & RV Park, which places you minutes from popular forest trails. "Ruidoso alone is a quintessential mountain town and it's a must see visit in Lincoln National Forrest," notes Richard T., who appreciated the convenience of this in-town campground.

Wildlife viewing: Set up hummingbird feeders at Eagle Creek RV Resort for guaranteed bird watching. "Bring your hummingbird feeders you won't be disappointed! We will be back!" advises Belinda D. The resort also hosts regular wildlife visits: "During our stay we had regular visits from a group of about 11 male mule deer!"

Fishing access: Multiple lakes within short driving distance provide excellent fishing opportunities. Jeffrey T. at Rainbow Lake Cabin & RV Resort mentions, "The park is adjacent to Lincoln National park. I literally walked out of my door and up the road," providing easy access to nearby fishing spots. Many campgrounds also offer on-site fishing at stocked ponds or creeks.

What campers like

Quiet mountain settings: Several campgrounds offer peaceful environments with minimal noise. "The campground is surrounded by fields with a creek bed on the back side and horses on another. It was very quiet and dark enough at night to see the stars light up the sky," reports Kelly about Moonflower Meadows RV Resort.

Clean facilities: Consistent maintenance stands out in camper reviews. Matt S. noted about Slow Play RV Park: "Bathrooms and showers were impressively clean. There is a laundry room, and a game room with a few arcade games." Similarly, Thornton B. found Midtown Mountain Campground "fastidiously clean and maintained" with "surprisingly high water pressure!"

Family-owned hospitality: Personal attention from owners makes a difference at many rv sites near Lincoln, New Mexico. "The staff here is great friendly helpful. Amenities are amazing laundry gym fire pit. Very clean and well kept we love it here," writes Michael F. about their stay at Midtown Mountain.

What you should know

Cell service variability: Connectivity differs dramatically between campgrounds. Jan R. shares about Bonito Hollow RV Park & Campground: "No ATT or Verizon cell service at my site, but I did find a weak signal up near the office. The wifi was a struggle... I could easily connect to their router, but constantly got an error of 'no internet service'."

Reservation requirements: Summer weekends fill quickly at most Lincoln area campgrounds. Michele S. noted about Moonflower Meadows: "We stayed for a month and 4 days, and it never filled up," which is unusual compared to other parks that require weeks of advance booking during peak season.

Site size limitations: Many campgrounds have tight spacing between RVs. Nick H. comments about Pine Ridge RV Campground: "Sites very tightly packed, I could literally reach out my window and touch the neighbor's awning," adding that the park features "very tight driving through with a trailer and very tricky backing into the sites due to hills and tight sites."

Stayed 3 nights, did not see (or hear) any kids other than our own, didn't see anyone under 45 other than us either so not the best place for kids/families."

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the Lincoln area have uneven sites requiring equipment. Sue G. notes about Pine Ridge RV Campground: "Roads are steep and turns are tight, so if you have a big rig, you may need to stay near the front. We have a 30 ft and managed to stay at the top, although we had to use leveling blocks."

Road condition warnings: Access roads to some campgrounds can be rough. Belinda D. cautions about Eagle Creek RV Resort: "The road going in to campsites are very rough and in of need some TLC!" Jessica M. adds, "The road is barely able to fit two vehicles so there are times you have to make a close pass due to the ledges."
