Best RV Parks & Resorts near Roswell, NM

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Roswell, New Mexico maintains several RV parks with full hookup capabilities, including the Red Barn RV Park located on East 2nd Street, Town & Country RV Park on West Brasher Road, and Trailer Village RV Park. These established facilities feature gravel sites that accommodate large rigs, with 50-amp electrical service and sewer connections standard at most locations. "This park is very clean, has full hookups and the staff are friendly and courteous. Spaces are gravel and pretty level with some shade trees," noted one Town & Country visitor. Red Barn RV Park offers 14 spots with limited pull-through availability, while Trailer Village provides more spacious layout for motorhomes up to 40 feet, though sites are positioned relatively close to one another.

Park amenities vary considerably across properties, with all facilities operating year-round regardless of season. Potable water pressure measures approximately 40 PSI at most locations, with all major parks offering sanitary dump stations for guest use. Near the intersection of highways, Midway RV Park experiences notable road noise but provides reliable internet connectivity. Most properties welcome pets, though designated dog areas are limited in size. A visitor to Trailer Village mentioned, "Great RV Campground close to 2nd and Main where the historic downtown lies. Very clean and organized, sites are very close to each other though." Cell service remains strong throughout most properties, with AT&T coverage particularly reliable in the region. While private parks typically require payment, several offer monthly rates for extended-stay travelers.

    Lake van

    Can’t Beat The Price

Although a bit rough around the edges, if you are traveling in SE New Mexico, this location is great for an overnighter. When we arrived, all of the full hook-up sites were taken (looked like long term locals). I called the number at the un-manned office and the gentleman who answered was very friendly and let us know that we could camp anywhere around the lake for $9. The location is close to a nice residential area, so it’s relatively quiet with the exception of the occasional train passing by. There is a scent of cow manure depending on which way the wind is blowing; but it’s not unbearable. Overall, it was a nice place to stop over for the night as we were heading towards the Carlsbad Caverns the following day.

Nice stay for a few days

Chose this campground to allow us to visit Roswell. Sites were nice and level. Staff was friendly. There were quite a few long term sites but plenty of open as well.
We extended our stay another day since we enjoyed the area and campground.

Lea Lake Campground — Bottomless Lakes State Park

    Really Quiet

Arrived about 4pm and the place is really nice. Long pull through spaces and easy to get into. Road coming in is a bit narrow but very little traffic so not a problem. Has water, electric and a dump station. Each site has a covered picnic table. Friendly and helpful camp host. Beautiful sunset. Only an overnight so didn't check out the showers or public bathrooms.

Lea Lake Campground — Bottomless Lakes State Park

All sites are reserve only (7/2023).

$14+$4 ReserveAmerica Fee  This is a local park for us. We were in Site 19 which is a Handicap site with a concrete pad (RA did not specify that this was a handicap site). Other sites are packed gravel. Site was a "short" site and close to the bathhouse which we did not use. Sites are 50/30/20 with a water hookup. Only a few sites have sewer. Dump station is at the entrance of the campground. The deer flies were not a problem during our visit (they are worse around the salt cedar trees). We were only bit twice and we did not use insect repellant. Since we could not check in until after 4PM, we parked over in the picnic area by the lake. We knew this and had planned it. Dogs are not allowed on the "sand beach" but there are plenty of access points around the campground& picnic area edges of the lake that pets can use. Goat's Head stickers are a problem here, as they are in most of the desert. Our dog wears "shoes" to protect her feet from the stickers and from hot pavement. Wifi was available in the park but we could not connect. We stayed in a Truck Camper 7/4 - 7/5/2023.

    Red Barn RV Park

    Tight

A very small RV site with very small spots. However a very nice hostess. Strong sporadic Road noise. Not far from downtown Roswell. A couple Pull through spots. Very clean and homey feeling. Only one washer and dryer, one bathroom for men and one for women both with showers

    Artesia RV Park

    Hookups do work, but...

This place is mostly long-term folks that allows overnight guests, and  was the right location for our travel and the only place in town.  With no bathrooms (our van was winterized and we were depending on campgrounds for water) and no wifi, and with units parked close together, it wasn't great.  The office was very dirty, but the staff was friendly.  Hookups worked.

    Town & Country RV Park

    Good Campground, pleased.

We stayed a week. The camp host/Manager was great. Unfortunately, my wife and I were sick most of the week and didn't take pictures or get out much. The park was clean, well-maintained, and quiet in the overnight hours. Our site was a pull-through on a gravel pad. UFO museum, and we ate at Farleys which was ok.

Lea Lake Campground — Bottomless Lakes State Park

    Solidly okay

Fine site, but the flies were outrageous. More on that later. Cheap at only $14 per night and a $4 booking fee.

Site had WiFi which worked well enough so that was awesome! Cell service for ATT& Verizon worked fine.

Not all sites had water hookup— make sure to check when booking.

There is lake access for swimming and paddle boating, and other activities where you’d need to bring your own gear.

Bathhouses we’re fine. No soap while I visited—and push button showers without warm water. But, showers and toilets worked well enough!

Site was not level, but with the help of levelers we got there.

Covered picnic table at sites. Enough space to not feel squished. Not particularly scenic, but not a crummy gravel lot on the side of the road either.

I saw this in other reviews but did not really understand the extent of flies and horseflies at this site. If I stood outside for more than 1 minute I was bitten multiple times by horseflies. Opened the door the get in and out do the trailer and literally had seven flies inside within the seconds it took to get inside.

Guide to Roswell

Roswell, New Mexico sits at an elevation of 3,600 feet in the high desert of southeastern New Mexico, where summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F and winter nights can drop below freezing. The area surrounding Roswell features a mix of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and private lands, with camping options ranging from developed RV parks to more remote dispersed sites. Cell service varies significantly outside city limits, with most campgrounds reporting stronger signals for AT&T customers than other carriers.

What to do

Wildlife viewing at farm-adjacent sites: Red Barn RV Park offers unique opportunities to observe sandhill cranes and Canada geese in the neighboring agricultural fields. "We stayed at the Rv park for 3 days and it was quite clean and comfortable. The best part was seeing all the Canada geese and Sandhills cranes land in the fields right next to the property. There were hundreds and listening to them come and go throughout the day was so peaceful," notes Richard F. The small hiking trail behind the property leads to dirt roads with rye and winter wheat fields suitable for walking.

Visit the UFO Museum downtown: Trailer Village RV Park provides convenient access to Roswell's alien-themed attractions. "We were treated very well here. Price is $35 a night, but that's expected for the touristy town and winter season. Will stay here again anytime we drive thru NM. I suggest going downtown when everything opens back up," recommends Bianca B. The park features alien statues outside and a gift shop inside, fully embracing the town's extraterrestrial theme.

Explore local breweries: Town & Country visitors enjoy the nearby craft beer scene. "You're just 8 minutes from all the action in Roswell, and we highly recommend hitting up Black Cock Brewery while staying here," suggests Brittany V. Many camping guests mention the easy access to local dining options like Farleys restaurant when staying at RV parks within city limits.

What campers like

Clean, home-like facilities: Red Barn RV Park receives consistent praise for its comfortable amenities. "Bathroom and shower just like home. Close to town and attractions," writes Michael K. Another camper mentions, "The bathrooms and showers had a home feel with their decor. Great place to stay near town and fair prices." This differentiates them from typical institutional campground facilities.

Welcoming management: Red Barn RV Park offers personalized service that campers appreciate. "Owner on site very nice, helpful and friendly. Great atmosphere quiet. Located at the edge of the town very little traffic on the main road. Very clean and well maintained," shares Jim M. Multiple reviewers specifically mention the attentive owners as a highlight of their stay.

Well-maintained sites: Many campgrounds offer level, well-kept spaces. "Sites were nice and level. Staff was friendly. There were quite a few long term sites but plenty of open as well. We extended our stay another day since we enjoyed the area and campground," reports James B. about Town & Country RV Park. The gravel pad sites throughout Roswell's RV facilities typically accommodate rigs of various sizes without significant leveling challenges.

What you should know

Weather variability: New Mexico's high desert climate brings unexpected conditions. "Heading north on 285 as a winter vortex arrives. Operator very kind as I pull in after hours in a blizzard. Both 30 & 50 amp available. It was not my plan to stop here but I may get a couple days," recounts Fred B. about his experience at Trailer Village RV Park. Winter travelers should monitor forecasts closely.

Road access considerations: Town & Country RV Park offers strategic positioning for through travelers. "This is a standard RV park. Reasonably priced with FULL hookups for 30a or 50a service. Lori the Mgr is kind and flexible. I arrived after the office was closed and she had my packet on the office porch," notes Austin S. Overnight access procedures vary between parks, with some offering after-hours check-in options.

Spacing between sites: Proximity to neighbors varies between facilities. "Our site was a pull-through on a gravel pad," explains Erich H. from Town & Country, while at Trailer Village, Mike M. observes, "Sites are very close to each other though but I have seen way worse." Those seeking more separation between rigs might prefer RV sites near Roswell at properties on the outskirts rather than in-town locations.

Tips for camping with families

Nearby attractions for kids: Alamo Road Dispersed camping area offers free camping within 20 minutes of city amenities. "Roswell, with many supply chains within 20 minutes including Big R, Tractor Supply, Walmart and various sporting goods stores. Not a bad spot to crash heading to the next one," says Derrick A. This balance of rural camping and urban convenience works well for families needing supplies.

Indoor recreation options: Red Barn RV Park provides entertainment alternatives during inclement weather. "They keep open a little space in the lodge so you can watch TV and they also have plenty of board games and books to keep you entertained," Amy M. shares. This can be particularly valuable during summer heat or winter cold snaps.

Dog-friendly considerations: Most RV sites in Roswell welcome pets, but dedicated exercise areas are limited. "I'd say that it's the best RV park in Roswell. Only suggestion that I would have is that they enlarge their dog park," notes a Town & Country camper. Red Barn offers "Great dog walking area!" according to Sue C., making it suitable for families traveling with four-legged members.

Tips from RVers

Stay duration flexibility: Baca Campground offers free dispersed camping for RVers seeking economical longer stays. "This is dispersed camping. No water no trash cans so pack it in pack it out. This said I always have an enjoyable stay. I nearly always see lots of wildlife. The campsite s are large and widely spaced," explains Jamie P. Located about 60 miles from Roswell, this option works for self-contained rigs.

Site access assessment: Large motorhomes require careful site selection at dispersed locations. "We stayed for 5 nights--there's a spot immediately to the left off of Alamo road. We pulled in during a freak snow, so went exploring in the truck the next day. That immediate spot was easy to pull into with plenty of space--didn't unhook the road," advises Brenda Y. about Alamo Road camping. Many reviewers recommend scouting potential spots before attempting access with larger rigs.

Overnight versus extended stays: RV campgrounds in Roswell serve different needs based on duration. "Very affordable rates. We stopped in for the night on our way through. It is a small park but has plenty of room to turn around. It was quiet and the staff are very friendly," reports Richard about Red Barn RV Park. With limited pull-through sites at some locations, overnight guests should call ahead for availability when traveling in larger rigs.
