Best RV Parks & Resorts near Eagleswood, NJ

The Barnegat area features multiple RV parks with varied accommodations for motorhomes and travel trailers. Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake operates seasonally from April to November, providing electric, water, and sewer hookups on predominantly gravel sites. Long Beach RV Resort accommodates big rigs and offers 50-amp electrical service with both water and sewer connections. Shady Pines Campground remains open year-round with full hookup sites that some travelers find challenging to level. Mays Landing Resort, open April through November, has sites that accommodate RVs but with limited space between neighboring units. "Our site was too short for our 37' motorhome. I made it fit, but measured just 3-inches of air between the back of my RV and the back of our neighbor's RV."

RV sites throughout the region vary significantly in terrain conditions. Many parks feature gravel pads that require careful leveling, especially after rainfall when lower sites may collect water. While most parks offer full hookups, travelers should note that some older facilities may have limited 50-amp service. Navigation within certain campgrounds can present challenges as noted by visitors encountering "narrow, winding streets" that create "a maze" for larger motorhomes. Several parks cater primarily to seasonal and long-term guests, with limited availability for overnight travelers. During peak summer months, particularly around holiday weekends, advance reservations are essential as spaces fill quickly. Most parks accommodate pets and provide amenities like swimming pools, though Wi-Fi connectivity varies considerably between locations.

    Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked…

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Baker's Acres Campground

    Rustic and Classic Campground

We stayed at Baker’s Acres Campground in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, for a weekend in mid-August. So did the rains of Hurricane Henri!

Our site(#Zoo-1) was a level back-in with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was easy to pull in and accommodates larger rigs. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table and fire ring. My favorite thing about this campground is that most of the sites have plenty of trees and shrubs for semi-privacy, shade, and a rustic feel.

This campground has been family run for over 50-years and has an interesting history that’s worth reading more about. Our site is located across from the pickle ball court which used to be a petting zoo(now the site# should make sense, right?). We came because we wanted to experience one of New Jersey’s oldest campgrounds. We liked the interesting vignettes they created around the campground as well as the goldfish pond near the office and store.

Baker’s Acres is well-maintained. The amenities include a swimming pool, lots of sports courts/fields, and a bunch of family-friendly scheduled activities. There is a camp store with all the usual items as well as bath and laundry facilities. The wifi service was ok, but costs$1 per day per device. Our Verizon cell service worked fine.

The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground.

Drive time to Tuckerton Seaport is about 10-minutes and Long Beach Island is about 35-minutes depending on traffic. There are plenty of stores within a 5-mile drive if you should need anything including Walmart, super markets, convenience stores, and several restaurants.

Our only minor negative was that our site was sandy dirt which created a bit of a mess, especially after the rain. It is the Jersey shore, after all. This would have been 5 stars if the site had gravel, grass, or was finished with concrete. It’s a pet peeve, but I hate having to constantly clean up to keep the sand out of our RV.

This is a great old-fashioned campground close to LBI. We’ll can’t wait to go back!

Atsion Family Camp — Wharton State Forest

    4x4ing in the Pine Barrens

    Atsion Family Campground

Off US 206 and about 1/2 a mile up Atsion Road in New Jersey’s Wharton State Forest, you’ll find the Atsion Family Campground. The facility is run by the Dept of Environmental Protection and offers Tent, Trailer and Group Sites. There are also Cabins for rent as well, but only available during the summer months, After Memorial Day until October. AFC is one of several campgrounds in WSF and is the largest with 50 camping sites. Amenities include a handicapped accessible restroom/shower building, several drinking water spigots, and a waste dump for trailers. There are no electric hook ups and cell service is low, but manageable. Plenty of sun (shady too) so bring your solar powered generators and cell signal boosters if you need to stay connected. AFC is also pet friendly, so bring your 4 legged furry family members, after registering them with the camp site.

The individual sites are spacious with a pic-nick table and fire ring grill. Some sites have lake-side water access, so bring your canoes and kayaks and reserve these sites (4, 8, 10, 12, 20 and 22) early as they are popular. The ground is sandy and relatively level for easy camp set up. Some sites are close to a roadway, so you do get some car noise, and like all unmonitored camp sites, loud, unruly campers can be lurking among the pines. Be sure to get your fire wood from the guy that lives across the street from the campground entrance. 5 bucks, on the honor system, a good amount of wood, open 24/7.

Nearby is the Atsion Recreation Area, which offers fishing, walking, biking and horseback trails, a life guard monitored beach by the lake with restrooms and snacks (Summer Months). Only 15 minutes away, a quick drive, is Batso Village, an old iron and glass community from the late 1700s to early 1900s. NJ State Park Rangers are working hard keeping the area clean, rehabilitated, and educational center allowing you to walk through the old buildings and time as you image what life was like back then. Wharton SF is huge, over 122,000 acres of sandy terrain, towering pine trees, lakes/rivers and off roading trails!! Y’all should come and play in the Pine Barrens

    Holly Acres RV Park

This is a nice campground with plenty to do nearby.

5 Stars / Labor Day Weekend

We stayed at Holly Acres Campground in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, for Labor Day weekend. We’re so glad we did!

Our site(#A28) was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, wifi, and cable. It was roomy, shady, and easy to pull in and out. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table and fire ring.

The gated campground was clean and well-maintained. The swimming pool was inviting. The store was a bit small and date, but stocked with basic essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks. Most of the neighboring RVs were nice and in good shape. The park has bath facilities, a dump station on the way out, and a fishing pond.

This park is just a few minutes from the Garden State Parkway and close to Atlantic City, Brigantine, Historic Smithville, and Absecon— all within 30-minutes drive-time. You can visit casinos, the Absecon Lighthouse, and several beach towns without going far.

For Labor Day weekend, the staff walked around Jezel, a friendly horse, and hosted a BBQ in their pavilion.

This is a nice campground with plenty to do nearby. We can’t wait to go back!

    Ocean View Resort Campground

    ★★★★ Shakedown Trip

We went to Ocean View Resort in New Jersey to kick off the 2022 season in our new Fleetwood Discovery LXE. And we’re glad we did!

This campground is located less than two miles from Exit 17 off the Garden State Parkway. It’s located a short drive from popular shore towns including Avalon, Sea Isle City, Cape May, and Ocean City. We found the park easy to access and navigate.

The check-in process was easy and the front office staff was friendly. I appreciate being expected when stepping up to the front desk.

The most amazing part of our experience was our‘Deluxe 50 Amp Pull Thru’ site# E19. It was HUUUUUUGGGGGGE! See my photos. Our site had full hookups including 50-amp electricity, good water pressure, easily-accessed sewer connection, cable TV with limited channels(some were not clear), and Wi-Fi which was hopelessly slow. Tall trees provided some shade and privacy. The site was covered in gravel and stone, which is great because it didn’t get muddy after the rainstorm we experienced one night. I highly recommend sites E15-E27(E14 slopes too much for my preference). Most sites are seasonal trailers or-park models, but they appeared generally clean and maintained.

The campground, our site, and facilities we visited were clean and well-maintained. Not all facilities were open as the full season begins in a few weeks. The campground store carries a variety of food and drinks, camping and RV supplies, clothing, pool toys, and souvenirs. This came in handy when I needed to replace a damaged sewer hose.

It’s a good sign when it’s difficult to think of negative comments. If I’m being nit-picky, I’d share that the trash and recycling dumpsters were overflowing and unsightly. This could be because it was opening weekend. The firewood they sold was nice and dry, but they don’t deliver it to the sites. This meant I could only purchase what I could carry for my walk back to my site.(I believe offering delivery would be a major convenience for campers and result in increased sales for the campground.)

This was their opening weekend for the 2022 season. While we expected inconveniences or less-than-ideal conditions, we found the place was prepared for the new season and we had no issues. The lake, swimming pool, and cafe hadn’t opened yet, but we’ll be sure to visit those amenities during our next visit later this summer.

THINGS I LIKED: Site was huge and clean with well-maintained full hookups, gravel, and shade trees. Campground is clean and maintained. Store was well-stocked

THINGS I’D CHANGE: No delivery for firewood Slow Wi-Fi Limited working cable TV channels

    Spacious Skies Country Oaks

    Quiet Getaway Weekend

    ★★★ Quiet Getaway Weekend

We went to Spacious Skies Country Oaks in Dorothy, New Jersey, for a quiet getaway weekend. This is a small and basic campground, not a resort. No fancy amenities. We stayed in Site# 14- a pull-thru with 50-amp, water, and sewer. The hookups seemed to work just fine. There is a small concrete patio(which I like), fire ring(filled with trash from the previous camper), and picnic table.

We went for a quiet weekend, so it didn’t bother us too much that there was no Wi-Fi and no cable TV. It would’ve been nice to have cable and/or Wi-Fi since it rained through most of our stay. I understand there is supposed to be Wi-Fi, but it wasn’t working. Our Verizon mobile service worked fine. And they plan to offer TV in the future.

The pull-thru sites(# 12-15) are packed together so tightly that our sitting area was bordered by the hookups from the neighboring site. That’s a little unpleasant. And there are no trees for shade or privacy. Most of the rest of the sites in the campground are better spaced apart and wooded. I believe most of those sites are seasonal, but they seemed to be maintained.

This was our second stay at SSCO, but first since a change of ownership to Spacious Skies a few months ago. I’m hoping the new owners make some upgrades to services and maintenance. If so, we’ll be back.

THINGS I LIKED: The staff we met were all friendly and attentive- especially Kim, Eileen, and Jack Basic campground without resort-like amenities Quiet place to stay

THINGS I’D CHANGE: Offer Wi-Fi Offer cable TV(this cost a star) The pull-thru sites are packed too close(this cost a star)

NOTE: I try to review the places we stay based on what they’re trying to be. Resorts with water parks and lots of amenities should be reviewed differently than basic campgrounds in my opinion. Every place starts with 5-stars and loses stars for things I believe could and should be better.

    Spacious Skies Country Oaks

    Great Value Getaway!

We stayed at Country Oaks Campground in Dorothy, NJ, for a 4-day weekend. We’re so glad we did!

Our site(#15) was a pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. The site included a concrete patio, picnic table, and fire ring.

The campground was clean and well-maintained. The swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The game room included air hockey, pinball, video games, and a few arcade games. The store was stocked with typical essentials like propane, fire wood, and snacks. Daily trash collection was a nice convenience.

The staff and camp hosts were all friendly and eager to help. We especially love that.

The majority of sites are seasonal which all seemed well kept.

The only negative was bad wifi service. Our Verizon cell signal was strong which kept us connected.

This is a great campground. Many thanks to the staff for a great stay and lots of value at Country Oaks for$65 per night. We’ll certainly go back!

Guide to Eagleswood

RV campgrounds near Eagleswood, New Jersey provide convenient access to both coastal attractions and inland wilderness. The region sits at the edge of the Pine Barrens, with sandy soil and pine forests creating distinct camping conditions compared to other parts of the state. Most campgrounds in this area are seasonal, typically operating April through November, with limited year-round options available.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: The lake at Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake has "plenty of fish" according to Paul B., making it an accessible option for campers wanting to fish without leaving the campground. This activity is particularly popular during summer months.

Beach access: Several campgrounds serve as convenient bases for exploring nearby ocean beaches. At Sun Retreats Avalon, "We were close to the Cape May beaches," notes Laure D., highlighting the prime location for beach-oriented camping trips.

Brewery visits: Local craft breweries provide cultural experiences within short driving distance. Campers staying at Shady Pines Campground mention "a cute brewery right around the corner" that pairs well with camping trips, offering an adult activity option between beach visits.

Mini golf: Family-friendly activities are available at certain campgrounds, with Sun Retreats Avalon featuring on-site mini golf that receives positive reviews. One camper specifically "Loved the mini golf" during their stay, making it a convenient recreation option without leaving the campground.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Long Beach RV Resort receives consistent praise for maintenance standards, with James G. describing it as "Clean, quiet, lots of activities for both children and adults, and overall a great campground." The attention to cleanliness extends to bathhouses and common areas.

Air-conditioned bathhouses: Several campers specifically note the comfort of climate-controlled facilities. At Sun Retreats Avalon, a guest appreciated that "the bathhouse was clean AND air conditioned!!!!!" - a welcome feature during humid summer months.

Wildlife viewing: The natural setting provides opportunities to observe local fauna. At Mays Landing Resort, one camper noted "Baby turtles were hatching when we arrived," creating an unexpected nature experience during their stay.

Pool amenities: Swimming pools are highly valued amenities, especially for families with children. At Thousand Trails Sea Pines, campers appreciate the "Great pool and splash pad. Kids love the lake," providing multiple water-based recreation options.

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds feature uneven terrain that requires preparation. At Mays Landing Resort, Daniel C. notes that "Site are very unleveled so the staff switched us to a pull thru space that was a tad bit more level but still very unleveled," indicating the need for leveling blocks.

Noise considerations: Weekend activities can create noise issues at certain campgrounds. One camper at Sun Retreats Avalon was "annoyed by the loud music of other campers. It was late (but not yet quiet hours), we were in our camper, with our air conditioner running and our TV on, and we could still hear their music."

Tree placement: Several campgrounds have mature trees that create challenges for larger rigs. At Sun Retreats Avalon, "The roadways are narrow and there isn't a lot of maneuvering room... The bad thing is that there are trees all the way up to the street which limits your turn radius."

Seasonal population: Many Eagleswood area RV parks cater primarily to seasonal residents. At Echo Farms RV Campground, a camper observed it was "mostly seasonal sites and we were one of only a few transient campers," which creates a different atmosphere than parks focused on short-term stays.

Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: When traveling with children, campgrounds with water features provide built-in entertainment. At Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake, campers appreciate that "the girls loved swimming in the lake and the pool," offering multiple swimming options.

Halloween events: For fall camping trips, look for special activities. Mays Landing Resort received praise for their seasonal decorations, with one camper noting "Halloween decorations were the best. The playground was great my daughter really enjoyed the scavenger hunt."

Water safety awareness: Parents of young children should consider site location relative to water features. At Mays Landing Resort, one camper warned that "the tent loop is surrounded by water on 3 sides. There is no safety fence," requiring extra vigilance with small children.

Family entertainment: Some campgrounds schedule regular activities for younger guests. Herbert at Mays Landing Resort enjoyed the "scavenger hunt" organized for children, while noting the "miniature golf course could have been maintained better."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Experienced RVers recommend requesting specific sites when possible. At Shady Pines Campground, after trying multiple sites, one camper found "the fourth attempt we could get level. The site was still on a decline, but not as bad as the other three," highlighting the importance of persistence with site assignments.

Arrival timing: For thousand Trails properties, arriving early improves site options. One camper at Chestnut Lake advised, "We weren't sure about this campground. We booked through Thousand Trails and you can't reserve sites," explaining why early arrival matters for finding suitable spots.

Space constraints: Be prepared for tight conditions at some parks. At Mays Landing Resort, one camper observed "when our neighbor parked his truck in his spot, my chair could almost touch it," indicating the limited separation between sites.

Wi-Fi reliability: Connectivity varies significantly between campgrounds and even within the same property. Military Park Fort Dix Range 14 Camp offers a "clean and gravel" setting described as "Park & go" that's suitable for exploring the region while maintaining reliable utilities for remote work needs.
