    Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked…

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Baker's Acres Campground

    Rustic and Classic Campground

We stayed at Baker’s Acres Campground in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, for a weekend in mid-August. So did the rains of Hurricane Henri!

Our site(#Zoo-1) was a level back-in with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was easy to pull in and accommodates larger rigs. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table and fire ring. My favorite thing about this campground is that most of the sites have plenty of trees and shrubs for semi-privacy, shade, and a rustic feel.

This campground has been family run for over 50-years and has an interesting history that’s worth reading more about. Our site is located across from the pickle ball court which used to be a petting zoo(now the site# should make sense, right?). We came because we wanted to experience one of New Jersey’s oldest campgrounds. We liked the interesting vignettes they created around the campground as well as the goldfish pond near the office and store.

Baker’s Acres is well-maintained. The amenities include a swimming pool, lots of sports courts/fields, and a bunch of family-friendly scheduled activities. There is a camp store with all the usual items as well as bath and laundry facilities. The wifi service was ok, but costs$1 per day per device. Our Verizon cell service worked fine.

The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground.

Drive time to Tuckerton Seaport is about 10-minutes and Long Beach Island is about 35-minutes depending on traffic. There are plenty of stores within a 5-mile drive if you should need anything including Walmart, super markets, convenience stores, and several restaurants.

Our only minor negative was that our site was sandy dirt which created a bit of a mess, especially after the rain. It is the Jersey shore, after all. This would have been 5 stars if the site had gravel, grass, or was finished with concrete. It’s a pet peeve, but I hate having to constantly clean up to keep the sand out of our RV.

This is a great old-fashioned campground close to LBI. We’ll can’t wait to go back!

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore. Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views. 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking. there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activities.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.) Good OTA television signal also.

We spent three days here in July 2021.

    Wading Pines Camping Resort

    Nice place

Very family friends and pet friendly. Mostly quiet. There is NO Wi-Fi. Plenty of trails and things to do. Only downside was our site 252 had a giant spotlight on our site from dusk and until dawn. It felt as if someone’s car headlights were shining on us all night. We’ll be sure to pick a different spot next visit.

    Baker's Acres Campground

    Convenient location, nice lots

Campground is nice, wooded, level, hard-packed sand lots. The roads are narrow getting to the ground and very tight inside especially for larger rigs. We have a 36ft, 5th wheel and it was tight getting into the spot. The roads are also uneven. Otherwise the full hookup site was good with a picnic table and fire-ring. Staff were very friendly and helpful at check-in. Cell service, (Verizon), was weak and the local wi-fi ok when it worked. It went down during the second night and never came back on. Location is convenient for central Jersey shore. Lots of full time rigs and seems to be very kid friendly. Overall very happy with the campground and will be back when in the area.

Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites

    Quiet, spacious, no frills

We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean. Big rig spots are further back (around site 6-9 or so). 9 sites total & they are often booked, so need to do so in advance. Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area. TONS of geese everywhere though. Pets are NOT allowed (but they'd probably help w the geese problem). You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in, but I don't have anything to report as I used the bathroom/shower in our trailer. Price is great at $45/night. FULL hookups as well. Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains.

    Sea Pirate Campground

    Fun LBI Getaway

We stayed at Sea Pirate Campground in West Creek, New Jersey, for a week in mid-August We’re so glad we did!

Our site (#201) was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was easy to pull in and can accommodate larger rigs. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table and fire ring.

The gated campground was clean and well-maintained. The heated swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The store was stocked with typical essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks. Daily trash collection was a nice convenience. Wifi service was strong and our Verizon cell service worked fine.

The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground.

Drive time to Long Beach Island ranged between 3-40 minutes each trip we took depending on traffic. There are plenty of stores within a 5-mile drive if you should need anything including Walmart, super markets, convenience stores, and several restaurants.

Our only minor negatives were that the firewood sold in the store was so wet it wouldn’t light and they charge an additional$5 if you want it delivered to your site. And our site was really sandy and dirty which created a bit of a mess, especially after some rain, but it is the Jersey shore.

This is a great campground with a nice pool and good proximity to LBI. We’ll can’t wait to go back!

    Sea Pirate Campground

Great new pool and close to LBI!

We just spent a full week at Sea Pirate Campground in West Creek, NJ, over July 4th, and had a(mostly) good time. This was our second visit to this campground since 2021.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site(#516) with picnic table and grill/fire pit. The site was big enough for our motor home and toad. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service. Mature shade trees made the site more comfortable given the July heat.

We had a problem with our site: extremely low water pressure, often below 20 PSI. It was so low at times, that we couldn’t take showers or flush the toilet. At some times, it was a bearable 40 PSI. I went to the office to ask for help. To their credit, someone came right away. My issue was that he told me “It gets low when other campers are using their water.” That’s a problem when you charge resort-level pricing and impose 5-night minimum stays. We paid$125/night including fees. This water issue was so bad, it may keep us from going back despite living just 90-minutes away.

A less significant issue is that the sites are sandy dirt— no gravel or concrete. This makes things extremely dirty whether it’s dry or raining. Just my opinion, but a small investment in gravel would go a long way, especially for a site labeled ‘Premium Pull-Through.’

One major upgrade since our last visit is an entirely new swimming pool. It’s beautifully done and an obviously significant investment to this area of the campground. Based on how crowded it was each day, it was probably money well-spent.

They have a great store and eatery near the pool. Purchases can be easily made using their wristbands(provided at check-in). No need to carry cash or credit cards around the campground.

The location is great because it’s close to Long Beach Island (LBI) and even closer to the Tuckerton Seaport. Lots to see and do within a 30-minute drive (depending on traffic). The campground entrance/exit is gated(which we like).

Bottom Line: This is a great campground in a great location. We may go back, but the poor water pressure will make us think about it.

    THINGS I REALLY LIKED:

    • Great new pool area
    • Well maintained and clean campground
    • Close to LBI

Guide to Asbury Park

RV camping sites near Asbury Park, New Jersey dot the coastal region and extend inland across Monmouth County. The area's sandy coastal plain sits mostly below 100 feet elevation with mild maritime climate averaging 49°F in winter and 75°F in summer. Most campsites are accessible year-round though seasonal RV parks close between late September and early May.

What to do

Beach access from campgrounds: Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center offers a "free beach just a few moments' walk down the road" according to Jessica D., who noted the campground is "close to shore towns & many restaurants." The park operates only during summer months.

Historical village exploration: Allaire State Park features a working village and antique train available most of the year. Beau B. mentions "there are also lots of festivals throughout the summer months" while another camper recommends winter stays: "Getting a cabin in the winter and going for a snowy hike is wonderful there."

Manhattan sightseeing: Liberty Harbor RV Park provides convenient access to NYC attractions. "There is a ferry 100-yards away that takes you to Wall Street M-F," says one reviewer, while others mention the PATH train nearby. Keith and Tia S. note it's "the closest RV park to NYC" with views of the Statue of Liberty.

What campers like

Clean facilities: NWS Earle RV Park maintains well-kept amenities including free laundry. Jeffrey notes "Laundry facilities are free for use and in like new condition" and the bathhouse includes one male and one female stall.

Level sites: Military Park offers concrete pads that are completely level. Jessica D. stayed in site #1 and recommends it because "you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean."

Biking options: Indian Rock RV Resort provides good proximity to Six Flags. Allaire State Park offers extensive biking trails: "Mountain Biking from easy, paved trails to several miles of single track with everything in between," writes Beau B., while Dan X. mentions "a really nice bike ride to Ocean Grove and other beach towns."

What you should know

Sewer connection placement: At Military Park, be prepared for elevated sewage hookups. Jessica D. notes "the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains."

Proximity to highways: Some campgrounds have constant road noise. At Allaire State Park, one camper mentions "close to the parkway, constant road noise" while highlighting the upside that "there are convenience stores nearby if you forget something."

Limited dump stations: Liberty Harbor has water and electric hookups but lacks sewer connections at sites. Shawn B. mentions "There is a dump station, but not the easiest to use," which matters for longer stays.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds offer playground facilities suitable for children. Allaire State Park provides a playground alongside hiking trails that families can enjoy together.

Space for activities: Military Park features open areas for kids. Jessica D. notes "Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area" though cautions about "TONS of geese everywhere."

Amusement park proximity: Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground provides convenient access to Six Flags. Valen K. writes, "We would camp here again to go to six flags because it was easy to drive back a few minutes after a long day at the park."

Tips from RVers

Electrical service specifics: Many Asbury Park area campgrounds offer 30-amp service, but 50-amp availability varies. At Indian Rock RV Resort, Kent W. noted "Our site was a big pull through site" with full hookups available.

City access routing: When navigating to Liberty Harbor for NYC access, Joe R. advises: "Getting in and out of the city is an adventure. Stay right off the highway to avoid the $30 tunnel toll. Follow RV Life Pro and not Waze."

Military installation requirements: Fort Dix Range 14 Camp accommodates RVs in a quiet setting. Rara B. notes the campground has "Clean and gravel" sites with "Lots of military training nearby but overall a quiet stay" and is "a bit further into the trees so you're not hearing so much road noise."
