I love the outdoors and finding new places. There is no adventure too big, and I hope one day to have no location unexplored. 🌿🐾🌎

Almost to Big Cottonwood, unmarked spot

What an incredible spot! On the north entrance/end coming out of Jarbidge and the Jarbidge wilderness, this little spot lies just next to Big Cottonwood, and truly can only be seen heading toward the campground, not away from it. It’s right up against the river and has excellent privacy. There is a designated fire pit, perfect access to the beautiful flowing river, and is easy to drive in and out of.

I will absolutely hope to stay here again, that is, if we can find it twice ;)

Anywhere you stop, you’ll love it

There were so many campsites along the dusty dirt road through Jarbidge wilderness both before and after the historic living ghost town. And anywhere you stop, is going to be worth your while. We camped twice on the 100+ mile trek, the first time on the south side of Jarbidge. This site was beautiful, easy to drive in and out of, and had its own designated fire pit - which, while we didn’t use it, was nice to see to help preserve the outdoors while still encouraging camping and enjoying the wilderness.

We were right up against a cool creek, and were able to walk up and down a bit of it, and see a variety of wildlife, bugs, birds, and more!

Easy, open campground

We got arrived a bit late at night, but this was such an easy campground to find! Not a lot of privacy between sites, and it was very open/no real trees/nature, however it’s worth it for the view of the lake right below your spot! It looks to be popular for boating, and is right outside of Elko so easy to get resources or take advantage of the trails and outdoor opportunities south of there in the ruby mountain area.

Especially if you’re in an RV or have a boat, it’s definitely a spot to keep in mind. And the bathrooms were incredibly clean and well maintained!

Breathtaking views, great camping

It’s a windy road with a dead drop on the outside lane to a very high canyon with no guard rail… but it was SO worth it! The campsites are open, but separated by bushes and the hill that they’re naturally built on, bathrooms are very clean and the view is just out of this world.

There were a bunch of people fishing in the early hours while we headed to the small hike up to the waterfall above Angel Lake. There were other trailheads that we didn’t get to as well, but hope to explore on future trips!

The lake itself was cool, clear, and refreshing to swim in! Many were kayaking and paddle boarding, and it was a relaxing environment all around with very friendly people. We can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful, but not private

An absolutely gorgeous place to camp, and an even more beautiful drive in. The road is easy on any car in the summer months, and is well maintained. There are scenic ponds throughout the drive to this particular campground and many other campgrounds past this site too. While we didn’t partake in the hot springs on this trip, many visitors did and it looked clean and inviting. The bathrooms were also very well maintained. The pond at this site has a handicapped accessible ramp to the small dock, and there looks to be fishing available there (though, with restrictions). There were some small trails to walk around and explore, and beautiful sunsets to experience.

The only downside was the lack of privacy, that I think is expected in this environment but worth noting. There are a good number of spots but no trees/space in between them. Wasn’t a deal breaker for us as we are van campers anyways, but something to keep in mind!

Camping on a beautiful beachside cliff

My husband and I stumbled across this campsite by chance while on our way to another one of our favorite Fort Bragg area campgrounds. It’s an open campground split into two sides with, i’d estimate about 20-30 spots total. It looks like there is a primarily RV side and a primarily car or tent camping side. Regardless, you pay your fee (if I remember correctly only about $20) into the box with your filled out slip, and you have a front row view to the ocean. It’s as if you’re on the edge of the cliff, and there’s absolutely nothing between you and those beautiful sunsets. The beach is a short walk from there, too, and we were able to have privacy up until later hours when some other campers joined us. Though even still, it wasn’t invasive or rowdy.

Walk-in paradise

I’ve been visiting this campground since I was young, and every year discover something new! We stayed in the reserved campsites once or twice, but typically we wait until we arrive to roll the dice on snagging a walk-in site. These sites are very few, but they have the perfect amount of closeness and privacy. In the fall the main trail is lined with fresh blackberries, and no matter where you are you can hear the ocean when you fall asleep. In some sites, you can even watch the sun set. But even more, you are about a 2 minute walk to the beach… which is gorgeous and all black sand with some of the best tide pools!

Every year we come here, and it never gets old. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area or looking to visit!
