Best RV Parks & Resorts near La Vista, NE

Several RV parks surround La Vista, Nebraska, offering convenient access to Omaha and the surrounding region. Walnut Creek Lake & Recreation Area features spacious RV pads with 30 amp electrical hookups and a convenient dump station at the entrance of the campground loop. Offutt AFB FamCamp provides year-round full hookup sites with 50 amp service for eligible military personnel. In nearby Council Bluffs, Bluffs Run RV Park at Horseshoe Casino operates seasonally from May through September with 50 amp electrical and water hookups for big rigs. Ashland RV Campground, about 20 miles southwest of La Vista, offers full hookup sites with concrete pads that accommodate large motorhomes. "The premium sites are FANTASTIC," noted one RV traveler about the West Omaha KOA. "Not only was it paved, but also had a huge patio with a table and Adirondack chairs, and a fire pit with additional seating."

Most RV parks in the area maintain clean facilities with showers and restrooms, though amenities vary significantly between locations. Cell service is generally strong throughout the region, with one reviewer reporting "3 bars on Verizon and 2 bars on T-Mobile" at a nearby campground. Dump stations are available at most parks, though some like Walnut Creek require filling portable water containers rather than offering direct hookups at sites. Pet-friendly policies are common, with several parks featuring dedicated dog runs. During peak summer months, advance reservations are recommended, particularly for weekend stays. Victorian Acres RV Park in Nebraska City remains open year-round with full hookups, while Bob Hardy RV Park in Blair operates seasonally from April through October with 30 amp service and water hookups but no sewer connections at individual sites.

    Czechland Lake Recreation Area

Great first come first serve campground

This is a nice small campground that is well taken care of. We stayed at site number 8 which may be one of the more unlevel spots. The passenger side of our 5th wheel was about 7" lower than driver side and rear of fifth wheel was about 3" lower than front before we levelled out.

    Pros:

-Well maintained walking trails that are perfect for dogs

-Most sites have 30 and 50 amp hookups

-Fire rings and picnic tables at most sites

-$18 a night for electric hookups

    -Quiet

    Cons:

    -Some sites are very unlevel

    -No water or dump station

    Louisville State Recreation Area Campground

    Good campground and recreation area

Pretty decent campground that’s suitable for extended stays.

There’s five or so lakes you can fish. One lake has swimming access. Canoe and paddle board rentals. Convenience store on site with firewood and propane tanks. There is an air compressor at the convenience store.

RV sites are electrical only but paved. Restrooms are somewhat clean. Showers are okay but the hot water is nice.

Dump station is clean. Don’t checkout on a Sunday if you don’t want to wait two hours to dump.

    Platte River State Park Campground

Perfect spot to explore Omaha and the Great Plains

Platte River State Park is a beautiful, full service park with plenty of amenities. There are playgrounds and a splash pad for the kids, canoe rentals, and plenty of trails to hike or bike. Sites are concrete pads with full hookups and include a fire ring and picnic table. The campground also has a bathroom and dog park. 5 bars of AT&T @ 120Mbps!

    Arrowhead Park Campground

Great nature, fishing, and camping park.

Arrowhead campground has 60 RV sites that support both 30 and 50 amp hookups. They have several well water stations to take on water and a sewer dump station. There also lots of tent camping sites. All sites come with picnic table and fire ring. There are numerous nature trails to hike ranging from easy to hard. There is also a nice sized lake for fishing, canoeing, and paddle boats. The lake has a boat ram for small fishing boats. Very well maintained, managed, and friendly atmosphere.

Branched Oak Lake State Rec Area

    Amazing Views from Our Campsite

Once we exited off I 80 per campground(CG) instructions, we traveled following our RV GPS, WAZE, and Google Maps on the back roads to the state recreation area(SRA) and specifically the South Shore CG. We saw the South Shore sign that was somewhat hidden by trees and also a sign for the dump station and potable water. We pulled into the dump station for potable water and to dump what we had from our overnight stay as we were going into back-in site 80 with only electric(50/30/20 AMP). There was a small unmanned check-in gate where we got our Nebraska State Park Pass, but no one was around to stamp our pass so we followed the signage to site 80, which was a fairly easy back-in. We were amazed at the lake view as this site sits up on a hill about 100 yards from the water. Our name was on the post as we had online reservations(there are some first-come-first-serve sites here). We could have put out our satellite, but we got a multitude of OTA channels out of Lincoln, NE. We also got 3 bars on Verizon and 2 bars on T-Mobile. The South Shore CG has a mix of FHUs, 50 AMP, and 30 AMP-only RV sites. Note that when the utilities state Electric Plus, there is no water at the site, just 50 AMP electric plus a 30/20 AMP as well. There are also tent areas within the SRA campgrounds. The sites in general are spaced so you are not right on top of your neighbor. However, the sites that run on both sides of site 80 have no one behind with lots of space down to the lake. This was a very nice CG that we would not hesitate to visit again.

    Arrowhead Park Campground

    Easy Family Camping Near Omaha

Our family and another family shared a primitive tent site near the back of the park. We were first and foremost impressed with the freedom we had in choosing our site. Tent camping here is non-reservable, but once you enter the park, you may choose from any spots containing a fire pit outside of RV loops. Tent sites range from lake-front, to playground side, to more private sites on the outer rim of the park. We chose a large, private site at the back of the park. This site was well maintained and had enough space to easily accommodate two families of four. We even had a picnic shelter all to ourselves. Our site was lined by woods and farmland and had a good view of a small pond. The night was full of exciting animal noises from both the nearby farm and pond. Vault toilets were a short walk away with clean shower facilities just a few loops away. The kids enjoyed riding bikes up and down gravel roads, looking for frogs, and playing on the playground. Canoe and paddle boat rental is extremely reasonable. Hiking trails near the park entrance are rugged. The staff was incredibly kind and easy-going, yet attentive. Just a short drive from neighboring towns, this is a good starter campground for families with younger kids. We hope to return in winter to check out the camping cabins.

    Conestoga State Recreation Area

Conestoga State Recreation area. Site 50 and major renovation review

Conestoga SRA is an increasingly popular campground following major renovations that were completed in 2018. Improvements to the picnic tables, restrooms, added shelter area and most importantly a complete overhaul of the lake have made this a much improved campground. Conestoga is entirely walk up with no reservations. You can easily self register at the park entrance and a second location closer to the lake centrally located between two of the three camping areas. A pack in primitive campground was also added to the lake and is accessible via a gravel hiking path. Fishing for mature fish will not be possible until 2021 according to Nebraska game and parks. I did see plentiful immature fish while kayaking the lake in June of 2019. The lake was complete dredged out and the parks commission added several silt pond around the lake to capture silt run off. This should keep this lake much cleaner than it was in the past. The park is boat and kayak friendly these days with the addition of two brand new boat ramps. By my count there were three new fishing docks going up although only one was completed during my stay. This is not relatively quite campground but it is popular. Kids can ride their bikes all around the paved and gravel rounds throughout the camp. The sites in the row on the side of site 50 are huge. We enjoyed spreading our stuff out with multiple tents and played games in the large open space. Shade is limited over a good 1/3 of the powered sites. The primitive site closer to the lake is well shaded with mature trees. There was a camp host who made sure we knew where the storm shelter was on the night of our stay. We nearly needed to use it as we experienced a severe thunder storm. There are 25 camp pads offering 20-30–50 amp hook ups and another 8 non electric pad sites. There is a dump station and several vaulted, well maintained toilet houses. Water is also available. If you plan on boating there is a 5mph speed limit so this is more of a canoe or kayaking lake or just for fishing. I highly recommend this SRA close to Lincoln Nebraska

    Camp A Way Campground

    Looks like fun for family

We spent one night here and it was nice. It was out first night camping in a 31’ with 3 slide outs and it was a great experience. Easy set up although only used power, nice level site with pull through. Busy but we had a pretty roomy spot. Bathrooms were clean, staff friendly. Cute little train rides for kids at night and vehicles to rent

Guide to La Vista

Near La Vista, Nebraska, campers can access several campgrounds within a 30-mile radius. The terrain features rolling hills and floodplains along the Missouri River, with elevations ranging from 960 to 1,200 feet. Summer temperatures typically reach 85-90°F with high humidity, while spring and fall offer milder conditions in the 60-75°F range.

What to do

Hiking in the Loess Hills: Hitchcock Nature Center offers extensive trail systems with varying difficulty levels. "The trails are well marked and easy to follow. I was very impressed on the hike in campsites. They already have a nice flat spot for your tent, although I'm a hammock camper. The views from the two south east campsites are amazing, looking over the Missouri River valley and the Omaha skyline in the distance," notes Aaron A. about Hitchcock County Nature Center.

Archery practice: Several campgrounds maintain dedicated archery ranges. "As a family we go to Hitchcock a few times a year for the hiking and the archery range they have on-site. Both are excellent and a nice escape from the city!" shares Pat V.

Educational programming: Nature centers often host seasonal events. "When I think of 'nature center' I think of a stuffy little cabin with taxidermy. This site is far far more than that, with hiking trails, educational programs, a museum, event halls, and of course camping. Make sure to look at their events calendar, they have exceptional programs for all ages (and especially kids)," explains Lynn G.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain well-kept bathhouses and common areas. "The facilities are well kept and clean. We got a spot right next to the bathroom," reports E C. about Ashland RV Campground. "Immaculately maintained" is how another camper described their experience.

Convenient locations: Proximity to major highways makes many rv sites near La Vista, Nebraska practical for overnight stays. "Very convenient location close to lots of shopping and the convention center," notes James about Bluffs Run RV Park. "Just minutes from the interstate and easily accessible," mentions another camper about Victorian Acres RV Park.

Well-designed sites: Many campgrounds feature thoughtfully laid out camping areas. "This RV park is one of the most well maintained and thought out parks we've stayed! The spots are easy to get into/out of and the staff were so nice and helpful!" writes Kimberly L. "Large sites, many with trees. Well landscaped with lots of green space," adds another reviewer.

What you should know

Self-registration options: Several campgrounds offer after-hours check-in procedures. "Stopped late after a long 12 hour drive. I loved the simple self service process. We picked an open spot, paid, and parked," writes Abby W. about Hitchcock Nature Center.

Highway noise levels: Some campgrounds experience traffic noise due to their proximity to major roads. "A little Highway noise but not too bad," notes one camper. "Highway was a bit noisy and a distant train was heard twice through the night," mentions Paula C. about Bluffs Run RV Park at Horseshoe Casino.

Seasonal availability: Operating seasons vary significantly between rv sites near La Vista. "It is probably a cool place for someone spending a lot of time in casinos. It's not really a campground and there are no outdoor activities on site," warns Tony B. about one location that operates May through September.

Tips for camping with families

Boardwalk trails: Some areas offer accessible hiking options. "With the nature Center there is plenty for the kids to do. There's even a 1 mile hike on a boardwalk that's very easy. There's all levels of hikes," explains Karen W. about Hitchcock County Nature Center.

Playground access: Several campgrounds maintain play areas for children. "They had electric hookups, grills and picnic tables at every site plus a small playground for kids," notes Wendy M. about Bob Hardy RV Park.

Swimming options: Some campgrounds feature pools or water access. "We love the friendly staff, the onsite cafe, and the beautiful pool. The owners take great care of the pool, so our grandkids come out and swim with us whenever they can. So many campground pools are a bit scary, but not this one," shares Allison B.

Tips from RVers

Leveling considerations: Site grading varies between campgrounds. "Sites are nice with trees and vegetation but not very level," notes Maggie C. "Under 21 not allowed into casino, so no casino restaurants. It is not smoke free. We stayed one night, the utilities worked well and there was plenty of space to maneuver," adds James.

Dump station availability: Access to sanitation facilities differs between locations. "Single free dump station as well," reports Jacob T. about Bob Hardy RV Park. "$15 per night for RV spot. $10 per night tent spots. 5 day max. Pay at the bath house, no host on site."

Site selection strategy: Choose sites based on specific needs. "We stayed at site #22 because it is close to the playground and is a full hookup site. The only downside to this campsite is the traffic noise," advises Andrew D.
