      Billings KOA Holiday

Surprisingly nice stay (and those showers!)

We normally avoid KOA campgrounds - preferring to stay away from large campers pushed together. Our experience was not what we expected. We were the only ones in the last loop. With the way our teardrop faced we couldn’t see anyone else. This gave us a small campground feel.

There are lots of activities - from mini-golf to dog park to river access. We took advantage of the amazing showers.

Walking around was a surprise too. We followed a trail by the river and it led around a pond  it was short but away from everything.

      Billings KOA Holiday

      All around great experience

Friendly staff, clean, well maintained grounds, quiet and charming. This place had everything we needed for a few nights of work, rest and play. And to top it off the internet worked great. They have a pool, mini golf, kids play grounds, and an enclosed dog park. The laundry and bathrooms were exceptionally clean and updated. We splurged a little got the deluxe pull through with the swing, patio and fire pit, and saved a little with our AAA membership. And, after having gone through death valley and the High Sierra Valley having the lovely tree coverage was awesome. This camp ground is tucked into a residential area, and far enough off the interstate to not hear the noise, but close enough to town and all the other amenities to make it very convenient. It’s also on the river, but we didn’t have a chance to take advantage of that on this trip. I only gave four stars because we were positioned right behind the maintenance residence and there was a lot of noisy activity coming and going at all hours. I’m not complaining, they did an excellent job of maintaining and I’m sure if we were in any other location on site we’d not been bothered by this at all. We’d definitely stay here again.

      Grandview Camp & RV Park

The office behind the front counter is really gross. Unclean. Junk piled up to the ceiling. Unprofessional.

Dog poo is everywhere. People aren’t picking up after their pets.

      Resort style...

Never have we stayed at a KOA before so this stay was different than anything we’ve experienced before. The pull through site we had included a patio with swing and picnic table- but not much on space... probably only 15 feet between rigs(?) however the campground had plenty of activities and amenities, including mini golf, pool, lodge, dog park, playground, ice cream stand and a BBQ joint, and the mini golf, and food stuffs were all an additional fee. We were only staying one night, and didn’t partake in any of the activities, and at the price of the per night rate, I felt that maybe we wouldn’t stay at another KOA, mostly because of the spacing issue, and the fact that it didn’t really feel like a campground at all... but like I said, we are used to slightly more rustic conditions, lol. It is worth mentioning that just a few miles away is Pictograph State Park- and that was pretty cool, and a beautiful walk after a day of driving!

      Super

Very helpful office staff, help backing in (the dreaded electrical meters☹️), very clean. No picnic tables ; pets allowed, but I did not find a pet area? Very clean place; only stayed one night, but would go back.

      Beautiful

Montana is such a beautiful state! The hiking and outdoor activities are limitless! My family and I go to Montana once every few years because he outdoor life is hard to stay away from. We stayed at this campground because there is some really good hikes nearby and we wanted to see this part of Montana. The campground was pretty good, just s typical campground. The restrooms weren’t the cleanest, but they were portapotties which to me are never clean! Bring your own toilet paper, they ran out the last day we stayed. Each site has its own picnic table and fire ring. Within the campground there is a large grass area where people were playing horseshoes, volleyball and spike ball. My family and I enjoyed hanging out in this area, throwing a frisbee around with our dog. Again? Highly recommend hiking in the areas nearby! We also went to the lake that was close by! Enjoyed swimming and playing fetch in the water with our dog. Loved our stay and can’t wait to come back!

      Itch-Kep-Pe Park

      Hidden gem in Columbus Wyoming

Clean quiet at night. Family and pet friendly. Large campsites each with a picnic table and fire pit. Public toilets non-threaded water spigot near the entrance. Water quality is great. 64 outlets on four different light posts near communal bathroom and shelter area. With a long enough extension cord you might be able to get to your campsite but I doubt it. Close to the river. I feel safe here. I got here on August 30th and stay till September 3rd that's why I chose month of September.

    Guide to Pryor

Campsites near Pryor, Montana sit at elevations between 3,500-5,000 feet in the shadow of the Pryor and Beartooth Mountain ranges. The area experiences hot, dry summers with afternoon thunderstorms common from July through August. Winter camping options remain limited with only a few campgrounds offering year-round accessibility, primarily along the Yellowstone River corridor.

    What to do

Hiking trails access: The Trail Creek/Barrys Landing area provides numerous hiking opportunities. "There are a fair amount of trails in the Bighorn Canyon area as well as some fantastic views. Overall, this place turned out to offer a whole lot of fun in a place that you wouldn't expect it," notes Evan H.

Fishing spots: Rock Creek offers excellent trout fishing near the Basin Campground. "Waterfront sites right on Rock Creek. Great fishing area makes this site ideal for anglers or anyone that enjoys being right on the water with a stunning view," reports Kayko S. Sites are positioned for easy water access.

Mountain biking routes: The Acton Recreation Area features extensive trail networks suitable for cycling. "This is one of my favorite local riding spots. The trails are well used and vary from flat and easy to moderately difficult. Lots of bicyclers on the trails," explains Kathi F. The area includes both beginner and intermediate options.

Boating access: Water recreation remains popular at several locations. "Plenty of locals and informed people realize the beauty of this area and will show up to camp for the weekend, fish, or just get out there on the water and play. There is a boat dock just up the road," shares Evan H. about the Bighorn Canyon area.

    What campers like

Spacious campsites: Itch-Kep-Pe Park offers widely separated camping spots. "This is a widely dispersed campground. There is a launch for the river. Each site has varying types of picnic tables and fire ring and grill on it," describes David M. The park provides more privacy than many established campgrounds.

Wildlife viewing: Early mornings offer opportunities to spot local fauna. "Had two bucks stroll within 30 yards of the tent area," reports Loren W. about his stay at Yellowstone River RV Park. The areas along the Yellowstone River corridor serve as natural wildlife highways.

Zero light pollution: Remote campsites like those at Trail Creek provide exceptional night sky viewing. "It is so peaceful and beautiful! Clean camping areas without any frills," notes Samantha L. The lack of cell signal contributes to minimal development and excellent stargazing conditions.

Affordable options: Several free or low-cost camping opportunities exist. "Full hookups (30/20A electrical, water and sewer) for $20/night, what more could you ask for? This is a terrific campground in Bridger's town park," explains Marc G. about the Bridger City Campground.

    What you should know

Weather precautions: Summer conditions can change rapidly. "The wind does pick up at night so do stake out your tents fully!" warns Daniel S. about camping at Acton Recreation Area. Afternoon thunderstorms may develop quickly during summer months.

Road conditions: Several campgrounds require travel on unpaved roads. "So yes, the road leading to it is very washboard but stick with it! The views and trails are worth it," suggests Daniel S. about accessing the Acton Recreation Area. Higher clearance vehicles recommended for some areas.

Limited facilities: Most dog friendly campgrounds near Pryor operate with minimal amenities. "Clean camping areas without any frills. Decent bathroom, but no shower," reports Samantha L. about Trail Creek. Vault toilets represent the standard facility at most public campgrounds in the region.

Cell coverage gaps: Connectivity remains inconsistent throughout the area. "Be warned: ZERO cell signal. I mean none at all. But that's my favorite part!" mentions Samantha L. about the Trail Creek/Barrys Landing area. Plan accordingly for communication needs.

    Tips for camping with families

Bear safety protocols: Storage requirements exist at several campgrounds. "Each site has its own large bear locker. They also each have their own picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern hangers," explains Ali J. about Trail Creek. Proper food storage remains essential for wildlife safety.

Kid-friendly activities: Several campgrounds offer designated play areas. "There are lots of activities - from mini-golf to dog park to river access. We took advantage of the amazing showers," shares Art S. about their experience at Billings KOA Holiday.

Swimming opportunities: Several locations feature safe water access for children. "Nice little semi secluded section of beach, soft sand and the water temp was great," notes Austin K. about Cooney State Park Campground, though he warns about insects during peak summer.

Winter preparation: For off-season camping, facilities operate at reduced capacity. "Full hook ups year round, lots of full timers makes it a nice and quiet stay!" mentions Nicholas D. about Yellowstone River RV Park during colder months. Year-round camping requires additional planning.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Pad construction varies between campgrounds. "The sites were level and large. There are some good hiking trails but they are open to mountain bikers so heads up!" cautions James D. about Basin Campground.

Tree clearance issues: Some campgrounds present overhead obstacles. "If you come in off of East Broadway, watch your overhead clearance on the trees," warns Marc G. about navigating the Bridger City Campground in larger rigs.

Proximity concerns: Spacing between sites varies significantly. "The sites are closer together but roomy. Big tree cover. Shaded. Sites are closer together but roomy," explains Tracy O. about her experience at Yellowstone River RV Park with a 37-foot fifth wheel.

Seasonal limitations: Not all pet friendly campgrounds near Pryor operate year-round. "This campground is beautiful! The pull through site we had included a patio with swing and picnic table - but not much on space... probably only 15 feet between rigs," shares Amanda S. about Billings KOA, noting the trade-off between amenities and spacing.
