Big Spring RV Camp, located directly in Van Buren, offers big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp electric hookups, water connections, and sewer hookups. Current River Campground, also in Van Buren, provides year-round RV camping with 50-amp service, sewer hookups, and a sanitary dump station. Cell service throughout the region varies considerably, with most parks offering weak but usable coverage. Many RV campgrounds in the area are pet-friendly, allowing travelers to bring their four-legged companions along. Seasonal considerations are important when planning an RV trip to Van Buren - while some parks like Current River Campground operate year-round, others have limited availability during winter months. Dump stations are available at most parks, though one traveler mentioned, "This is the first time I've encountered needing to pay to dump when full hookups weren't available." RV campers should be prepared for occasional electrical issues at some of the older campgrounds, particularly during peak summer months when air conditioning use is high. Propane service is limited in the immediate area, so stocking up before arrival is recommended.

    Silver Mines

    Nice and affordable

This is a nice little campground located in the Mark Twain National Forest. The St. Francis River runs behind the camp loop and the boat launch is walking distance, with room to splash around and fish. We were in site 8. The sites have a bit of breathing room between them. There were tent campers on up to a 40 foot toy hauler. The vault toilets were a bit sketchy and, while there's access to drinking water and some 30 amp sites, there's no dump station.

    Current River Campground

    Not particularly worth it.

Location is great. The campground is on the basic side, with gravel and dirt everywhere. Not an issue, if that's what you're expecting.

We were in site 45 and our friends in site 46. These are both 30 amp sites, no sewer, and we both have 50 amp service. This shouldn't be a problem, assuming we're pulling less than 30 amps. With 1 AC running, were only pulling less than 15 amps, but still having multiple electrical issues the whole weekend. Both sites ended up having to run our generators most of the time we were here. The staff did come out and take a look at the pedestals, and even replaced the breaker on ours. We were told that because we were at the end of the line, and we had big rigs, that it was causing issues. However, it shouldn't be causing an issue if we weren't pulling more than 30 amps, which we weren't. (On a normal 30 amp service, our rig will run 2 ac units without issue.) Multiple times, we were receiving less than 100 volts, which shut our Bulldog EPO off.

We went to check at the office as we left for the dump station location. I was told that they could dump for you for $20 or, you could back into a full hook up site and dump for a $5 fee. We have been full time since November and this is the 1st time I've encountered needing to pay to dump when full hokkups weren't available. I double checked the website and couldn't find anything that mentioned a fee to dump.

The staff did credit us 1 night stay and we didn't end up having to pay to dump.

Long story short, definitely paid for the location to the river. We backed up onto the water and let down our ramp/patio for a nice view.

    Otahki Lake Cabins and Campground

    Word from the staff

This 1200 acre property used to be the beautiful Cherokee Ridge Girl Scout camp until it was sold in 2019. We have went through extensive renovations and development to bring this property to the public so that it can be enjoyed by our guests. River access and our private gravel/sand bars are available exclusively to our guests and have provided some of the most peaceful weekends imaginable.

We have everything from glamping tents right on the river bluff (photos attached) to 12 fully equipped cabins with hot tubs overlooking the 22 acre lake with a beach and activities (photos attached)

We have 4 Conestoga Wagons that are heated and air conditioned (see photos attached). They are the definition of glamping.

50 RV sites with picnic tables fire/grill pits with a variety of 30 and 50 amp pull-through and back-in sites. We offer float trips, rental boats for the lake, and rental golf carts to adventure around the park.

The park is going through endless development to continue to provide everyone with the most enjoyable and peaceful vacation possible.

Pinewoods Lake Rec Area — Mark Twain National Forest

    Easy access, private sites

Stopped here while passing through Missouri on a Saturday on 4th of July weekend and there were only 3 other campers when we arrived late afternoon. The sites are nice and big with picnic tables and fire rings, even a few “doubles” that would fit two big rigs side by side. The trail around the lake makes for a nice short walk with the dogs and it was surprisingly not terribly buggy for July. No hook-ups, which was the only downside since it was so hot and my Husky demands AC in the summer!

    Greenville - Lake Wappapello

    A great COE campground

If you've camped before at a COE campground you expect a quality experience. This one is no exception. It has paved drives and paved sites with a concrete pad for the fire ring and picnic table along with a hook for your lantern. They are also full hookups.

The place is very clean as well as the restrooms. There are plenty of things to do right from the campground including a paved bike trail into Greenville. We spent two days in early November and just about had the park to ourselves.

Cell service was adequate but not great.

    Redman Creek Recreation Area

    Best place to camp

This is a Army Corps of Engineers campground. We love it because it is quite and peaceful. The sites are well maintained with asphalted pads, fire pit, grill, camp light pole and picnic table. Best of all it is full hook up. Redman West traditionally has older campers (sites 1-40)but Redman east usually has more kids (sites 41-109) (currently under remodel 2023 season). Both sides are family friendly. We camp Redman West March to November.

Alley Spring Campground — Ozark National Scenic Riverway

along the Ozark National Scenic River.

Alley Springs is one of several NPS campgrounds along the Ozark National Scenic River. The campground is located on the Jack’s Fork River, which is popular for swimming and canoeing and tubing. There are over 150 sites, and several group sites. The campground has a shower house, restrooms, RV dump station, electric and water hookups, picnic tables and fire rings. The Ozark Trail runs through the park. Roads are paved, but campground sites are gravel. There are Ranger-led campfire programs in the summer months.

    Highway K

    Nice all around campground

We have stayed here a few times over the past couple of years and really enjoy that it’s it’s right on the Black River and that it is still within a couple of our drive from St. Louis. The campground is actually made up of two different campgrounds, East and West. The East is the older campground while the West campground is newer and geared more towards larger RVs and features bigger sites. Although we have camped at both with our 40 foot fifth wheel and as long as you pay attention to the trees you can still get around the East campground without any problems. The newer campground does not have as many trees so most of the sites are out in the open. The campground is just a few minutes away from Annapolis which has just about any of the basic needs that you might want. And again the proximity to river access is wonderful for enjoying a day at the river. Great campground!

What campers like

Helpful hosts: Many campgrounds feature attentive owners who assist with everything from parking to local recommendations. At Camelot RV Campground, campers appreciate the personal touch: "They escorted us to our site, offered help getting parked and set up. Very clean, well maintained, quiet, but still close to dining and shopping."

Creek access for cooling off: Several parks feature natural water features for summer relief. As one camper at Big Creek RV Park explains, "The creek is nice for cooling down on a hot day, but there is a pool if you'd rather do that. Check recreation options: Many parks provide additional amenities beyond camping. One visitor mentioned: "Great little hiking/biking path along creek that runs along park," while another was surprised to find "a small pool, laundry, and arcade" at their campground.

Tips from RVers

Dump station protocols: Some campgrounds charge for dump station use if you're not in a full-hookup site. One camper shared their experience: "I was told that they could dump for you for $20 or, you could back into a full hook up site and dump for a $5 fee."
