      St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA

      Its fine 🤷🏼‍♀️

Its fine. Nothing snazzy. Its in more of an industrial area so its kind of loud with the trains going by and whatnot. Mostly an RV site. 9 tent sites (first come first serve on spot) and a handful of cabins.

Is campground was safe and clean

I gave this campground a five star again. I am a solo female camper. I like to go to places that are safe with a good atmosphere and this had both and plenty of things to do a roundabout when coming through this area again I will definitely stay here.

      Meramec State Park Campground

      Many memories and making more

In the past my cousins and I would camp here every year at least once with Grandparents and my aunt and uncle. Always had a great time swimming, fishing and hiking. The park is beautiful and the camp sites are very nice. It does get pretty packed at times. Everyone seems to get along and its always nice to meet people from other cities or even some locals. I'm planning on setting at least two dates per year to take my kids and grandkids camping here so they can have the great experiences I had as a kid. Alot of spots to chose from if available.

      Courtois Creek Dispersed

      F350 with slide in camper

We got our F350 with a slide in camper down to the creek. About a mile off the main road but it was super tight. Would recommend having a saw in case tree is down: def scraped some branches but it was nice at the end with the creek there. Very peaceful

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

Our Recommended Campground for Visiting the St. Louis Area

This campground was easy to find, as both our GPS and the campground signs led us right to the city park and campground entrance. Check-in begins at 2:00 p.m., but we called ahead and were graciously allowed to arrive an hour early. We checked in and proceeded to back-in Site 426 with full hookups. As the last site in the campground, the curve in the road made for an exceptionally easy back-in. The concrete pad easily accommodated our 40-foot toy hauler and F-450, with utilities conveniently located near the center of the site and no issues connecting two sewer hoses. Water pressure was adequate, and the 50-amp electric performed flawlessly. The campground's four loops have mostly younger trees, so satellite reception should not be a problem in most sites. Although we brought our Starlink, we used our T-Mobile Home Internet instead, averaging 217 Mbps download and 21.5 Mbps upload. The campground information sheet mentioned Wi-Fi, but we never saw a network to join and didn't inquire further since our internet worked well. We received three bars on Verizon and two bars on T-Mobile. The campground has a nice fenced dog park that's large enough to actually throw a ball, plus a paved walking and biking trail that circles the lake. The office also sells ice and firewood, and the dump station is located behind the office. Many sites offer lake views, and the RV sites are generally well spaced. We noticed Loop 100 has all concrete pads, the first two rows of Loop 200 are concrete with the remaining sites primarily gravel except for some end sites, Loop 300 is reserved for primitive camping and tents, and Loop 400 has a mix of concrete and gravel sites. The center rows of the RV loops are pull-throughs. One thing to be aware of is that the campground has begun charging short-term campers for electricity. We weren't informed about it during check-in, although our traveling companions were shown how to monitor their usage online. The information sheet we received only referenced weekly and monthly electric charges. Even with hot weather and occasionally running three air conditioners during our three-day stay, our electric charge was only about $14. We departed without stopping at the office and received a checkout email about an hour after the noon checkout time. The St. Louis area is our home base, and in our opinion, this is the best RV park in the area and the one we most often recommend to our RV friends.

      Klondike Park

      Outdoor Family Fun

My family and I really enjoyed being at Klondike Park Camping. I can't really find anything I didn't like about this place. The camp sites were clean and well maintained, there are bathrooms not to far to get to and a camp kitchen where you can do dishes and cook if needed. I love the off grid feeling of being in the outdoors but when you have children it is nice knowing you have these luxurious not far from your camp site. I also love how easy it is to navigate around Klondike. I never got lost once I figured out the layout. My family and I can't wait until our next adventure at Klondike and we stayed at site 25 if anyone is wondering about the perfect site to camp.

      Scott AFB FamCamp

      No frills

BL, the camp could use a Camp Host or Mayor. Stayed 1 night. We used the bathhouse and walked the grounds- so did a lot of other people; especially in the morning up to lunch. Quiet camp -Aircraft noise held off until 08:00 (bonus). Men’s shower side had great water pressure and temp- water fixtures were dated, dirty and temperamental (2 shower heads-1 working) also, cozy up to your multi-legged friends (spider webs and bugs were in competition for our shower space), Laundry is $1.50/wash&dry. I’ve stayed at a good many FamCamps: Lake Martin Rec -AL Uchee Creek-GA Destin Army Inf CTR-FL Robins AFB FamCamp-GA Round Pond -NY Kings Creek-VA Ellsworth AFB-SD Blue Angel Rec-FL Anniston Army Depot-AL Sigsbee-FL That’s my starter list! So, I’d like to see this one level up. It’s in a good area (we come through every couple years) and I think it could get a few more interested in it, if it were managed just a little bit better.

    Guide to Imperial

Camping spots near Imperial, Missouri range from rugged tent sites to full-facility RV parks within a 30-mile radius. The region's rolling hills and proximity to the Meramec and Big Rivers create diverse camping environments at elevations between 400-700 feet. Winter temperatures generally remain mild enough for year-round camping at most locations, with occasional freezes between December and February.

    What to do

River activities: Robertsville State Park offers river access popular with paddlers. "There's also a lake within a few minutes walking, although the current was too strong to swim we were told it's home to many large catfish," notes a visitor who enjoyed the serene setting.

Hiking trails: Washington State Park Campground features multiple trail options, including the challenging 1000 Steps Trail. "We hiked the 1000 step trail. Most of the campers did fine but those who were not use to hiking did struggle a bit. If you are use to hiking, then this trail should not be any problem for you," according to one Scout leader who visited with his group.

Historical exploration: Washington State Park contains Native American petroglyphs and structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. "This park is so rich in Missouri and USA history - from buildings constructed by the African-American CCC stonemasons to Native American petroglyphs, there's some fascinating stuff here," shares a visitor who explored the historical features.

Local attractions: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort offers proximity to Six Flags amusement park. "We spent a weekend here because we wanted to be close to six flags. I swear this place was more fun!!! There's swimming, games, lots of activities and you can go from rustic rent a tent to a really nice cabin with lots amenities!!" writes an enthusiastic camper.

    What campers like

Proximity to St. Louis: Many campers appreciate the convenient location of Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park. "Great location for the arch or downtown visit. We felt safe in a rough looking area of STL. Big rig friendly. Pay attention to email for check in process and gate code," notes one visitor who used it as a base for city exploration.

Swimming holes: St. Francois State Park has natural water features that visitors enjoy during summer months. "It has decent camping sites and they are right next to the river and swimming holes. The hiking trails are a few of my favorites in MO. The park is big and has several picnic and swimming areas," shared a summer visitor.

On-site dining options: The restaurant at Cahokia RV Parque receives consistent praise. "Convenient location for a city visit. Getting in after a long drive and seeing the on-site BBQ restaurant was a huge positive. Facilities are clean and orderly. We have booked a return trip already," writes a repeat camper who enjoyed the amenities.

Shaded sites: Greensfelder County Park offers tree cover that campers value during hot months. "Quieter despite the surroundings. Due to foliage, seems much more spacious and nature rich," according to a visitor who appreciated the natural environment despite proximity to urban areas.

    What you should know

Train noise: Several campgrounds near Imperial experience train noise due to proximity to rail lines. At St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA, "It was a nice campground with tree cover over most of it. Our site was gravel to park on with grass around it. Close to train tracks and highway, but didn't notice with AC on in the camper."

Reservation requirements: State parks in the area often require reservations well in advance, especially for weekends. "But if you go during the week you can have the place pretty much to yourself. And the raccoons. Just saying," notes a visitor to Robertsville State Park regarding weekday availability.

Site layout challenges: Some campgrounds have unusual layouts that affect camping experience. At St. Francois State Park, "The campground has oddly shaped campsites causing a crowded feel. The campground is also loud on the weekends especially if there are races at the nearby Bonne Terre drag strip."

Seasonal facilities: Winter campers should note reduced amenities at some parks. As one visitor to Babler Memorial State Park observed, "Not having water available except at the camp host, and no open restrooms and showers until after April 1, regardless of when the last freeze is was inconvenient for a spring break trip."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Greensfelder County Park offers programs suitable for children. "If you are a family with children, if you want to enjoy Six Flags and then go camping, if you would like mountain biking, if you need facilities such as bathrooms and showers" you'll enjoy this park, according to a reviewer who evaluated its family-friendliness.

Playground access: Cahokia RV Parque includes facilities specifically for children. "There was after hours check in! But also a so friendly staff in the office. Beautiful coded bathrooms with showers. They were heated and warm and very well marked... Oh and an awesome playground for the kids!!"

Pool availability: During summer months, swimming pools provide relief from heat. At St. Louis West KOA, one visitor noted, "Stayed here for trip to six flags, well taken care of. People are friendly, has a nice and clean pool. Little shop with all sorts of stuff."

Safety considerations: At Washington State Park, campers appreciate the secure feeling. "It is quiet and feels extremely safe. There aren't many sites, but the ones they have are quiet and spacious. There is one bathroom, centrally located, that was a 2-3 minute walk from our campsite."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Covered Bridge RV Park & Storage offers varied spaces for different RV sizes. "Only sites 20-29 have electric and 28 can't be reserved. Most sites are great for trailers 26' or less and 1 slide (sites 24-26 can fit a fifth wheel probably no bigger than 36-38 ft)," advises an RVer who stayed there.

Utility setup: RVers should note the layout of hookups at campsites. At Draft Kings Casino Queen, "Utilities are set up weird on all sites - Water and electric are at the very rear of the site by the sewer, so you will need a decent sized hose to reach if your water intake is in the front of your camper."

Leveling requirements: Terrain can require additional equipment for comfortable RV setup. At Robertsville State Park, "This is a nice quiet campground but the lots are pretty uneven so make sure you bring plenty of cribbing. The spaces are electric only, so if you are wanting full hookups you better look elsewhere."

Laundry access: Some campgrounds provide laundry facilities convenient for extended stays. "Showers and restrooms are in the horse camping portion of the campground," notes a Greensfelder County Park visitor, while another reports, "The showers house needs some help. But the camp sites felt secluded. The dump station was a little broke down," at Robertsville State Park.
