    Cuivre River State Park Campground

    Natural, well maintained

Nice campground with tent areas and RV area well separated. Fire rings with attached rebar grills on a bricked square. Picnic table and lantern post. Small playground near the check in station/camp store. The store is small but will have what you need. The showers were adequate with the requisite daddy long legs. There were a fair amount of ticks so spray your gear with permethrin. Many of the sites were pretty small - we had a hard time seeing where a tent would fit, usually the answer was on the side of the road. Also, many were close together with little privacy. We stayed on site 53. Which I definitely recommend. Plenty of space for the tent (on a bit of a slant with tree roots, but doable, especially with air mattresses), great privacy on one side, decentprivacy on the other, and a lovely view of the woods at the back.

    Cahokia RV Parque

    Cahokia RV Parque, IL

We chose Cahokia RV Park because of its close proximity to St. Louis Missouri. We stayed in a gravel site with a concrete pad, fire pit, picnic table and full-hook ups. The spaces are tighter, but that was expected being closer to a city. There is a playground, pool and pond area to walk around. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers and had no major complaints. The price reflected what we got out of our stay.

    Beaver Dam State Park Campground

    Nice campsites

All sites are shaded and mostly level with pull-thru or back-in parking. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with a grate over it. Each site has electric, however the water spigots are scattered about. The restroom and shower house is very clean.

There is a nice walking trail path that goes around the exterior of the lake. The lake has boat access and some good fishing spots. There is also a restaurant and store on the lake. The breakfast at the restaurant is great! Mosquitoes are bad, remember to bring repellent.

It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more. Cahokia RV Parque

Nice close park to St. Louis

Pet-friendly, full hookups, space for our larger rig and parking around for extra vehicle. Laundry and propane on site. Spaces were a little close together, but minutes from downtown St. Louis, and staff was friendly and accommodating. Also, fantastic restaurant right on site -- Sawmill BBQ!

    Cahokia RV Parque

Close to STL, beautiful bathrooms, restaurant on site, after hours check in

I specifically would like to point out things that I look for when booking because I’m usually already on the road when trying to find a place to stay. There was after hours check in! But also a so friendly staff in the office. Beautiful coded bathrooms with showers. They were heated and warm and very well marked.
We did get a 30amp spot, because we have a van with solar panels and didn’t need to hook up. From doing this we were placed under street lights so they were always on and bright directly on our van. The next night they let us move to a 50 amp. The 50 amp spaces were the only ones with firepits. Rvs are close to one another but I was completely okay with that. There was road noise, quite a bit. But large trash bins and a great bbq restaurant on the grounds! I was planning on grabbing a gallon of milk when we got there...there really is nothing around the rv park! Maybe a couple gas stations at best, but if you need groceries or anything, stop and get them before you get close. Stop in the town before.

Oh and an awesome playground for the kids!!

    Country Bend Campground

    Great family friendly campground

Great place to stay and feel part of the community.  Pretty scenery to walk around.  Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish.  We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks.  Attentive and Friendly camp hosts. Pet friendly. Close to town if you've forgotten anything or want to have a restaurant dinner. Close to the highway for easy access.  Full hookup available. Monthly or Season also available.

    St. Charles County Klondike Park

Fantastic Camping Just Off The Katy Trail

I have bike-packed along the Katy and this is an excellent spot for an overnight(s) stay. It is a tough, but short, climb from the trail. You may have to walk up the hill - challenge made :-) . This is a St. Charles County Park and it is well maintained. They also have small cabins though pretty basic. Make sure to store your food securely overnight - the racoons are pretty thick and hungry at night. I have also done short bike-packing trips from Chesterfield and St. Charles for an overnight(s) stay. If you need it, grab food in Augusta or Defiance before arriving. There are no services in the park.

    Beaver Dam State Park Campground

Good place to rest and shower for the night

Drive by, choose a spot, let the host know. We tent camped. The ground was relatively flat minus some tree stumps. Every site has a fire pit with adjustable grill, picnic tables, ours had a concrete slab for gatherings, 2 vehicle parking bumper to bumper. Outhouse was a short walk from us and was decent (no sink). Water spicket just beyond that. They’re sporadically placed. Our site was in the shade and not far from the road though there were others that were further back. We did some of the trails which were okay. Something to do, a bit of exercise, and it had some cute little bridges and stops to sit or step out onto the water (must be able bodied). It is a pond not a lake, I could see all points of it from one standing position. Also, no beavers, they left a long time ago. The showers were clean. Walmart is about ten minutes away if you need groceries. It’s a good stop if you’re passing through and need to rest, get a little walk in, shower. Definitely wouldn’t recommend for some one out of town or state who wants to plan a vacation here.

Guide to Florissant

Cabin accommodations near Florissant, Missouri typically range from rustic to fully furnished units with varying amenities and seasonal availability. Most cabins require advance reservations, especially during peak summer months when family-oriented facilities reach capacity. Winter accessibility varies significantly between locations, with some properties offering year-round options and others closing completely during colder months.

What to do

Lake activities: Paddling and fishing at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park offer recreational options for cabin stays. The park features "paddle boats and bikes and group bikes for rental. Located right next to a lake with a lot of RV and tent camping spots," according to Joseph F. The lake supports various water activities and provides scenic views, especially at dusk when "sunsets" create memorable experiences.

Hiking nearby trails: Cuivre River State Park Campground provides an extensive network of trails accessible from cabin areas. A visitor noted the park "has an awesome trail system around the lake, and it looks like you can rent canoes/kayaks in the summer." The natural setting includes wildlife viewing opportunities with one camper reporting, "We saw bunnies hopping around and when we first arrived to our site a deer was grazing nearby."

Winter activities: Several cabin facilities maintain year-round operations with seasonal programming. Pin Oak RV Park hosts special events during off-peak seasons with one reviewer mentioning, "We go every October for Halloween." This provides cabin guests with structured activities during traditionally slower camping periods when rates may be lower.

What campers like

Proximity to attractions: Cabins situated near St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA provide convenient access to metropolitan amenities. As one visitor stated, "We camped here for a trip to the city for St Louis cardinals game and zoo." This location serves as a practical base for exploring regional attractions while returning to more economical accommodations.

Cleanliness of facilities: Many cabin guests prioritize well-maintained bathroom and shower buildings. At Cahokia RV Parque, visitors consistently mention facility upkeep with one reviewer noting, "The grounds, pool, laundry, and bathrooms were all in excellent repair and clean." This reflects the professional management standards maintained at higher-end cabin properties.

Security features: St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park implements safety measures around cabin areas, which resonates with guests. One reviewer highlighted that "the staff is SUPER NICE AND CARING" and noted that during adverse weather, "A park ranger went around to every site and notified every camper of where the shelters were" and provided weather forecast information.

What you should know

Cabin availability windows: Seasonal operations affect reservation options significantly. Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Resort at Six Flags operates from "Apr 1 - Oct 10," making advance planning essential during their limited operational window. Several campgrounds close completely during winter months while others maintain year-round cabin rentals with adjusted pricing structures.

Noise considerations: Location-specific ambient noise impacts cabin stays differently across facilities. Several reviewers mentioned railroad proximity at certain campgrounds, with one noting "trains pass 2 blocks away several times nightly, but after the first night you won't notice." Highway noise similarly affects specific cabin locations, requiring consideration when selecting accommodations.

Cabin spacing variations: Site density differs significantly between properties. At McCully Heritage Project, cabins provide more seclusion with a reviewer mentioning, "Super inexpensive for the space that you get." This contrasts with more commercial locations where cabins sit closer together with limited privacy barriers between units.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Recreational features vary widely between cabin locations. Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Resort At Six Flags specializes in family programming with a reviewer noting they offer "great kids activities! Good breakfast and nice store" making it particularly suitable for families with younger children seeking structured entertainment.

Budget considerations: Cabin pricing structures include various required and optional fees. One visitor at Yogi Bears Jellystone observed that "Prices were high with the kids love watching Yogi," indicating that themed cabin experiences typically command premium rates compared to more basic accommodations at state parks and county facilities.

Weather preparation: Seasonal conditions impact cabin comfort significantly. At St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, a camper noted the grounds "will be really nice when the trees get bigger" as shade remains limited at newer cabin developments. This impacts summer stays particularly when cabin cooling options may be limited.

Tips from RVers

Proximity benefits: Cabin rentals at established RV parks offer advantages for groups with mixed camping styles. At Cahokia RV Parque, a reviewer appreciated that "the picnic tables and fire rings are nice additions" around cabin areas, allowing for shared outdoor gathering spaces regardless of accommodation type.

Off-season flexibility: Winter cabin availability increases at primarily RV-focused facilities. Pin Oak RV Park maintains year-round operations with a visitor noting their "6 month stay was absolutely wonderful" indicating the property's consistent service levels regardless of season, unlike more tourism-dependent locations that reduce services during slower periods.

Accessibility considerations: Terrain variations impact cabin access at different properties. Klondike Park cabins require navigation of elevation changes with a reviewer noting, "It is a tough, but short, climb from the trail. You may have to walk up the hill." This terrain factor particularly affects visitors with mobility considerations seeking cabin accommodations.
