Lake Lincoln State Park Campground allows pets throughout its 71 RV and tent sites with electric hookups, water access, and sewer connections. Campers can bring their dogs to sites that feature concrete pads, picnic tables, and fire rings. The park maintains clean, air-conditioned bathhouses accessible to pet owners staying overnight. Pets must remain on leash at all times while on park grounds and around the lake area. Additional pet-friendly options include Atwood Water Park and Calling Panther Lake, both offering similar amenities for campers with dogs. Wendy Oaks RV Resort provides 38 pet-friendly sites with full hookups. Some campgrounds have street lights that may affect evening stargazing but provide additional security for nighttime dog walks.

Hiking trails around Lake Lincoln State Park provide exercise opportunities for dogs, with several pet owners reporting their dogs slept for days afterward due to all the outdoor activity. The park's beach area may have seasonal restrictions for pets, so visitors should check current rules before planning water activities with dogs. Fishing piers at Lake Mary Crawford and other nearby lakes allow anglers to bring leashed pets while fishing. Campers should be aware that alligators have been reported in some area lakes, requiring extra vigilance with pets near water. The proximity to wildlife means keeping dogs secured at campsites is essential. Most campgrounds are within 7 miles of Wesson, providing access to veterinary services if needed during extended stays.

      Paradise Ranch RV Resort

Nice park, but not as impressed as I thought I’d be

This is my first stay at Paradise Ranch. I had pretty high expectations based upon their website and feedback from friends. Note: Apple Maps and RV Life GPS will route you to the old park entrance which is closed. The new entrance is about 200 yards further east along Hwy 48. The sign at the entrance is off the road and you could miss it if you dont pay attention.

Checking in, the lady gave me poor directions to my site. It was unclear where to turn after entering the gate and she routed me where Id have to back-in to my pull-through site.

A very hard rain storm came through as we were setting up. Had to go in the RV and wait out the rain. Afterwards, I noticed a number of the campsites and roads were flooded with a few inches of water. Some of my neighbors RVs were surrounded by water for a little while until it could drain away. Fortunately, my site did not flood.

The entrance road is concrete, but all of the roads within the park are gravel or dirt. Some sites have concrete pads, especially near the Lagoon. We stayed in pull-through campsite #P85 which was not shady and not very level. It was a gravel site with grass on either side. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are close. The site included: picnic table on grass and fire bowl. Utilities: 20/30/50A electric in the middle. Water in the middle, good pressure. Sewer towards the front with 4 screw-on fitting. I know they area I camped in is newly expanded and only opened up a few months ago. Im sure it will improve over time.

Bass Lake (onsite) is beautiful. The BL campsites are shady. I would probably stay along the lake if I came here again. There is an area near the lake where you can see (and pet) the red stag deer. There are also some hogs wandering around the lake that you can pet.

The Lagoon area has a lot of shade, except for the pool, of course. The pool is large and also incudes a kiddy pool. We were disappointed to find the zip line that is mentioned on their website was not there. There was a good live band on the stage Saturday night. They also had a number of activities for the kids throughout the day. We enjoyed the water gun wars. Some of the camp staff also participate. If you stay in a Lagoon campsite, Id recommend one on the west side as they are a few feet higher in elevation than those on the east side. There was standing water around the sites on the east side after the heavy rain.

AT&T had 4 bars of LTE and Verizon 1 bar of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 298 Mbps down, 28 Mbps up. No WiFi.

Stayed 3 nights in July. Would probably stay here again, especially if a group of friends wanted to go. But, there are nicer RV parks closer to my home. (Paradise Ranch is about 107 miles from home.)

      Askew's Landing RV Campground

      Best Hidden Gem!

Ever heard of Edwards, MS? Well, unless you had a reason to go there- you probably just passed thru without notice. It’s one of those“if you blink, you may miss it” kind of towns. However, the town is far from‘missed’ in terms of its history. Sitting in close proximity to Vicksburg, Edwards may not have the‘well known’ factor today, but back in the mid 1800’s this little town played a big part in not only Mississippi’s history, but the history of the US as well. Around 1859, a man named Duklet Askew and his brother stumbled across this beautiful land while searching for a place to build a plantation. The area, which is located close to the Big Black River was perfect and he began work. Shortly after beginning life on the plantation, Askew’s had cleared around 500 acres for cotton growing, built a cotton gin, a general store, and even built and operated a ferry to cross the river. In just a few short years work came to a hault when the Civil War began and Askew’s property was used by the Confederate soldiers to flee the area. Names like General Sherman and General Grant are a part of Edwards’ history. A few small battles even took place on the plantation. The ferry was destroyed and rebuilt until a permanent bridge was finally constructed. Sadly, the structure was past the point of repair and was closed down, however some of the locals will still reminisce about the‘good ole days’ whenever given the chance. A few generations of Askews later, Sidney Knox‘Knocky’ Askew’s decided to raise his family in Edwards and although the cotton plantation was a thing of the past and as a result of the Great Depression there wasn’t as much land as before. However, Knocky had a love for the great outdoors and began raising cattle on the property as well as running a local grocery store. Some of the buildings left standing were rented out and Knocky even bartered to get the old pond expanded into a 15 acre lake. In the 70’s, Knocky and his wife Roma along with their children sold that grocery store and decided to live out their dreams and the plantation slowly turned into a campground, inviting their friends and neighbors to visit the area and enjoy the charming landscape and the beautiful new lake. By 1983, members started building tent/rv sites and in 1994, Knocky’s son Dan returned back home after attending college and working a few jobs. He purchased the land and worked to develop the campground even more to turn it into what we know today as Askew’s Landing RV Campground! In early 2023, Craig Alsup and his business partner, Luke learned of the campground being for sale and quickly turned their business plan into a reality. They purchased the park and opened under their belts on July 4th weekend of 2023. If you know anything about campgrounds, you know this is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest holiday for campers! They were either crazy or determined, but from the looks of it I’d say they did just what the place and patrons alike needed! Today, Askew’s boasts 40 acres of beautiful landscape, the same 15 acre lake, close to 100 sites, and room for close to 50 primitive tent sites. Full Hook-Up sites and Partial Hook-Up sites are available plus they have already added a beautiful rustic cabin for lodging if you don’t own an RV or tent, or if you’re more of the glamping type camper! When you arrive, you’ll see an old barn donning a big Askew’s Landing RV Campground sign. That barn is one of the original remaining buildings from days gone by. Traveling down the well maintained gravel road to the campground is unaltered landscape- just the pine trees and you. Quickly transforming you to the‘good ole days’ of relaxing and putting your worries behind if only for a weekend. Craig and his team have worked days on end cleaning up, maintaining and repairing, and giving the park a face lift- and it shows. On site, there are 2 dog parks for your furry friends to run free, a full service laundry, 2 bathhouses, a swimming pool, a large open grassy area for anything your heart can imagine, another original building serves as the registration office and store to purchase those essentials you forgot to pack, a community fire pit, and a covered pavilion for all the fun waiting to happen! Craig and his family are homeschoolers and he’s already made plans for a big home-school event at the park! He also is hosting a Halloween event full of spooky spectacular activities and family-friendly fun! Keep watch on the Askew’s Landing RV Campground Facebook page for more events he’s got up his sleeve as well! He’s definitely not lacking of ideas to create those memory making experiences you and your friends and family will be talking about for years to come! His future plans are slowly coming for fruition with every reservation that’s made to visit his place! Additions are in the plans, and he’s always seen on Facebook Camping groups asking people for their ideas of how to make Askew’s Landing better! We took a drive thru the park and stopped and spoke with some guests who just happened to find the park due to its close proximity to I20. They were eager to discuss how well they were enjoying their visit. Even tho closely situated to a busy interstate, the noise is non-existent at the park. It’s peaceful and serene. They said“we just showed up and the campground host was so amazing to work with and we got set up with reservations in no time, and now we are out here enjoying the beauty of nature while cooling off in the pool. We will definitely be back.” They said they travel in their Motorhome all over and Askew’s Landing RV Campground was surely one they’d recommend to anyone looking for the beauty of nature, peaceful laid-back atmosphere, and the convenience of being close to the highway. They were also eager to see what weekends full of fun looked like and hoped to return during one of the many events planned. Craig, his family, and business partner Luke aren’t some big name company just counting every guest as just a reservation in the books. They are a small owned park with the intentions of creating wow moments for anyone who enters their park and their goal is for when guests depart from their stay, they are already planning or booking their next trip to Askew’s. Visit their Facebook page at Askew's Landing RV Campground for ways to make reservations and to see their upcoming events! Plus, stay in the know for future plans of this beautiful park! Enjoy these pictures I took on our day trip to visit, but better yet, make plans to take your own trip to visit and see this beautiful place in person. Pictures just can’t depict all there is to take in while visiting this beautiful historic location filled with so much to offer. The future of Askew’s Landing RV Campground is bright and I can’t wait to see what Craig’s team has in store!

Clear Springs Lake Rec Area NF Campground

      Well kept secret

This is a US Forest Service campground in the Homochitto Forest. The campground host doesn’t want the secret getting out. S/he jokingly told me “now don’t you go posting on social media” how much you love this place. But I do love this place. It’s definitely off the beaten track but worth the drive. It’s a great campground nestled in the woods. Some of the campsites border part of the lake and more are wooded. We stayed in the wooded area. Our campsite had a pretty picnic area with a wooden rail all around it and wooden steps down from the campsite to the picnic/grill area. There is a loop hiking trail around the lake and a longer mountain bike/hiking trail. The nearest town is Natchez, Mississippi so make sure stock up before you go to the campground. The campsites are mixed use RV/tent sites with water and electricity. They also have a dump station for RVs. There are two bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets. I have AT&T and had trouble getting a cell signal to make phone calls except when I was up by the bathhouse. They accept the America the Beautiful pass discounts.

Clear Springs Lake Rec Area NF Campground

In the middle of nature the national forest

This is a lovely national forest (Homochitto), very peaceful and classical Mississippi beauty. The developed part of the park is simple with picnic tables and a basic campground. There’s a short little trail around the lake (where you can go swimming, boating, fishing) and a much longer one out through the forest. Simple and absolutely beautiful camping here.

Yay: The park is historic in that it has classic CCC style buildings, but the restrooms have been updated. We stayed at the camping loop up above the lake. Both loops have some sites close to the water, both are very wooded. They also have a site for groups that is far enough away from the normal sites to keep noise down.

Nay: dirt roads can be hard for some vehicles, but if you have a 4x4 or horses they would be great for exploring.

Surprise: love the trail around the lake, especially the boardwalks. Would be amazing in fall but we haven’t been back then yet!

    Guide to Wesson

Lake Lincoln State Park Campground provides extensive camping facilities across its 71 sites, with consistent access to the water throughout the year. The camping area is situated on gently rolling hills around the lake, creating natural divisions between sites while maintaining views of the water. Water levels remain stable through most seasons, allowing for reliable fishing and boating activities. Fall temperatures typically range from 55-75°F, making it a popular time for extended stays.

    What to do

Fishing from piers: At Lake Mary Crawford, visitors can access multiple fishing piers positioned along the shoreline. "Lake Mary Crawford is a beautiful lake. Fishing is the main focus. There are a number of piers for fishing," notes Twyana S. The lake was recently renovated and restocked, creating improved fishing conditions.

Paddling exploration: Kayaking opportunities range from beginner-friendly to more challenging, depending on water conditions. Paradise Ranch RV Resort offers paddling options on both their bass lake and nearby Bogue Chitto River. "They do offer drop off and pick up services for tubing and kayaking," according to Nichole B., making it accessible for beginners without their own equipment.

Nature hikes: Several forested trails within a 30-minute drive of Wesson provide hiking options with minimal elevation changes. "We did tour the campground but didn't really note any specific sites that tickled our fancy. We did see several that had direct views of the lake we know we would have enjoyed. Our girls enjoyed lounging in the sun on the beach area until it was closed due to mitigation measures," explains Layla D. about her experience during a quiet weekend.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Campgrounds near Wesson typically offer generous spacing between sites, with Clear Springs Recreation Area receiving particular praise. "We preferred the ridge loop. Clean bathrooms with shower. Good access to trails nearby. Electricity and water at site. Sites feel private," says Fabein D. The campground features multiple loops with different privacy levels.

Lake proximity: Many campsites offer direct water access for fishing or kayak launching. At Percy Quin State Park Campground, "We brought our kayaks and were able to dock at our campsite. We had a lot of fun playing in the lake. The kids also did some fishing," explains Jason R., highlighting the convenience of waterfront sites.

Wildlife viewing: The natural setting creates opportunities to observe local wildlife from your campsite. "Middle of the city gem! This MS state park is snuggled in the woods along a river. The bathrooms and sites were clean. Every site has a beautiful view. We stayed next to the river and encountered wildlife right away - gators, rabbits, birds," describes Leslie E. about LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground.

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Summer brings higher humidity and temperatures often exceeding 90°F. "Large, Alligators, fishing looks to be best in spring and fall. Hot in summer. Camps are clean and sites are adequate, but not cheap. 7 ml to town," advises William H. about Lake Lincoln State Park conditions.

Campground noise levels: Noise varies significantly between campgrounds. At DLo Water Park, "It's a pity the place is so dirty, especially the bathhouse. It's a pity because the property itself is of stunning beauty. There is lots to love; bbq pits, fire places, all kind of canoe activities, a river with fresh and nice water," reports Carola M., though noting cleanliness issues.

Bathroom facilities: Quality and maintenance of facilities varies across campgrounds. "There is a newer bathroom in the main building at the entrance of the park. The bath house in the camping area is old but clean," explains Twyana S. about Lake Mary Crawford's facilities, a common pattern across several dog friendly campgrounds near Wesson.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several pet-friendly campgrounds near Wesson offer dedicated children's play areas. At Wendy Oaks RV Resort, they're developing new facilities. "Current projects - playground currently being built, store closed for remodel," notes Monica C., indicating ongoing improvements for families.

Swimming options: Multiple campgrounds provide swimming areas with varying levels of development. "This MS state park is smack dab in the middle of Jackson, MS. It is snuggled in the woods along a river. The bathrooms and sites were clean. Every site has a beautiful view. We stayed next to the river and encountered wildlife right away," describes Leslie E., highlighting the natural swimming opportunities.

Evening activities: Plan for limited nighttime entertainment options. "A street light righttttt above us" was noted as the "only negative side" by Abigail M., though she still gave Lake Lincoln 5 stars, adding "we loved it and can't wait to go back."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose sites based on shade coverage during summer months. "Sites were roomy. Electric and water. Dump station available. Did not see the park host, but we reserved online," notes Cat R. about Lake Lincoln State Park, emphasizing the importance of selecting sites with adequate shade.

Leveling requirements: Most campgrounds feature concrete pads, though leveling blocks may still be needed. "Campsite#6 which is on the lake. Back-in site with asphalt parking. The picnic table has concrete around it, but there is a 2 foot gap of dirt between the asphalt parking and the concrete. There is no BBQ pit or fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, water, and sewer hookups. Site was level side to side and had a slight slope front to back," details David B. about Percy Quin State Park.

Connectivity concerns: Cell coverage varies significantly across campgrounds. "I had good Verizon cell service. AT&T and TMobile had no service and the Starlink worked pretty well even with the trees obstructing," shares Tiffany M. about service availability, which is essential information for remote workers seeking pet-friendly camping options in the Wesson area.
