Small Diamond in the Rough Campground

We hit the jackpot with this small diamond in the rough campground right outside of Jackson. If you find yourself passing through Jackson, this is an excellent place to stop. This resort is beautiful and peaceful with the friendliness people around. The owner greets every visitor personally, showing you to your site, and making sure you have everything you need for the best stay possible. I can’t say enough about their hospitality. My only regret is not being able to stay longer! This was our second stop on our roadtrip from Dallas to Disney. Read the entire story at ChampagneOnDeck.com

    Clear Springs Recreation Area

    Nice family campground

$20, $13 with fed pass. 22 sites. Electric & water hookups. Dump station. Two campground loops - B: Sites 1-12, & A: Sites 13-22. Loop A is prettier that Loop B, but Loop B has more level sites which may be more suitable for larger campers. Camped at site 7 in a camper van. Large site backed against the woods with access to a hiking trail. Not much privacy between sites. Nice family campground. Sites have table, lantern post & fire ring. Picnic Area also in this rec area. Beautiful setting by the lake. Restroom/shower house needs some work. Mens shower stalls have standing water in them - possible drainage issue. Women's toilet stalls also have a similar issue due to a leaky toilet. Bugs were not too bad here in April. No AT&T & T-Mobile service at our campsite, but picked up a weak signal by the lake.

    Calling Panther Lake

    Calling Panther Lake Campground

We arrived around 8 pm. I am originally from the Crystal Springs area so expected bad roads, low hanging tree limbs ect... road wasn't great but also wasn't full of pot holes as I expected. There were no low hanging tree limbs, just keep your speed to about 35 and you'll be fine. This is quite possibly the hidden gem of my beloved State of Mississippi. Quiet, No WiFi, T-mobile worked in some locations. We had 35 OTA channels, not that we watched TV but it was available. Park has pull through and back in, level concrete pads with fire pit and table, 50/30/15 electric, water and sewer.

Natchez Trace Parkway - Rocky Springs

Looks like a very nice place

I drove through,  The sites are level, clean and about half a pull through.  Each site has a picnik bench fire pit.  However, I did not stay because it had absolutely no Tmobile cell service and being alone and full time.  I did not feel like camping without it.  I did fine another campground on the same road about 150 miles north east. which I stayed at.

    Lake Mary Crawford

    Quiet and simple

The road into the lake area is a little rough but it's only about a mile and a half from the highway to the lake so it's not bad.

Sites are first come first serve with an honor box, I think roughly 20 pads. $17/ night if you don't want to use electric, $22 if you do. I went without electric but each site has power and water. No sewer hookups but there is a dump station by the bath house. Bath house itself is functional but pretty rough. The lake was recently drained and renovated... I wish they could have extended the renovation to the park's facilities.

The concrete pads are not huge but they get the job done and I think they are all back in spots. When I camped there was a good size Class A on a spot by the lake. This was the only other site taken when I was here. You'll likely be on your own if you come during the week.

Overall beautiful lake and I hear the fishing is pretty good after the renovation and restocking. The campground meets my needs perfectly but it's far from "glamping."

    LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground

    Lovely

Found this sweet campground traveling cross country. Quiet, large level concrete pad, 30 & 50 amp, water, dump station, $35 after tax. Even tho it was in town,. It was so quiet you could hear the birds on the pond. Gravel road entrance is decent. Only drawback was the burn ban.

Guide to Wesson

Wesson, Mississippi camping options span across the Pearl River watershed where elevations range between 300-350 feet above sea level. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures. Most campgrounds in the area provide water and electric hookups with varying levels of shade coverage depending on proximity to the river systems.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Lake Lincoln State Park Campground, anglers can access both lake and bank fishing locations. "We enjoyed fishing and kayaking on the lake. The campground is very scenic with lake views," explains Tiffany M., who noted good Verizon service but limited AT&T and T-Mobile coverage at this Lake Lincoln State Park Campground.

Kayaking and paddleboats: Visitors to Wendy Oaks can enjoy water activities without bringing their own equipment. "Free– 2 paddleboats, 3 kayaks, 4 SUP boards for campers to use(1st come, 1st serve basis)," shared Monica C. about her experience at Wendy Oaks RV Resort. The resort features an 8-acre lake with various water recreation options.

Wildlife viewing: Several RV campgrounds near Wesson, Mississippi offer opportunities to observe local wildlife. "We went for a nice walk this morning and saw a gator," reports Courtney B. about her stay at LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground. Other campers mention deer sightings and bird watching opportunities throughout the region.

What campers like

Family-friendly amenities: Paradise Ranch RV Resort offers multiple recreational facilities beyond standard hookups. "They have a large pool and instead of a cement deck it's surrounded by sand so you can put up your pop up tent and chairs and enjoy," notes Amanda B., who also appreciated the "volleyball net, horse shoes, bean bag toss and fishing" available at Paradise Ranch RV Resort.

Spacious sites: Campers frequently mention the generous site sizes at certain campgrounds. "Spacious park that's easy to navigate and get parked and set up. We stop here on our way to FL each year ~ end of May. The grounds are peaceful and there's a little lake and looks like you could rent a kayak," shares Jenny about Wendy Oaks RV Resort.

Natural settings: Despite being near highways, many campgrounds maintain a natural feel. "This campground is right off of the interstate but feels like you are in the country," says Nick W. about LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground, highlighting the surprising seclusion found minutes from urban areas.

What you should know

Shower/bathroom conditions: Facilities vary widely between campgrounds. At D'Lo Water Park, "the bathroom and shower were not great," according to Bille W., who still appreciated the "nice and level" sites with "cement pads and picnic tables and grills." Expect varying levels of cleanliness and maintenance at D'Lo Water Park.

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat can be intense. "Hot in summer. Camps are clean and sites are adequate, but not cheap," warns WILLIAM H. about Lake Lincoln State Park Campground. Campgrounds with tree cover provide welcome relief during peak summer months.

Cell service variations: Connectivity differs between campgrounds. "Verizon 3 bars on 4g," reports janet H. about LeFleur's Bluff, while Tiffany M. noted at Lake Lincoln that "AT&T and TMobile had no service and the Starlink worked pretty well even with the trees obstructing."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature dedicated play areas. "Such a nice RV Park. We stayed in spot #1 and had a beautiful view of the lake, nice fire pit and picnic table. Our kids and babies loved feeding the ducks and walking around the lake," shares Whitney S. about Askew's Landing RV Campground, noting they were adding a playground.

Wildlife education: Turn animal sightings into learning experiences. "We sat outside even in the 98+ heat to see the activity on the lake," shares Nick W., who observed active fish populations and alligators during their stay at LeFleur's Bluff.

Swimming options: Several parks offer swimming areas for cooling off. "Beautiful campsite by the pond! Wendy Oaks was the perfect stop on our way down to Florida. Beautiful views, lots of wildlife, super helpful manager, good Wifi, and full hookups," explains Renee, highlighting the diverse amenities for families.

Tips from RVers

Arrival timing: Plan your arrival during daylight when possible. "If arriving late just know it is minimally lit and the sites are not numbered. For us it took a great deal of time figuring out where we were supposed to be," cautions Danielle G. about Swinging Bridge RV Resort, emphasizing the challenge of nighttime navigation.

Leveling requirements: Some sites require more effort to level. "It took more effort than usual to get level but we did achieve that," notes Richard at Springridge Mobile Estates & RV Park, suggesting RVers bring additional leveling blocks.

Easy access locations: Proximity to highways makes some campgrounds convenient for overnight stays. "Right off Hwy, got in late, super nice, concrete pull through, some road noise but great stop," says Laura H., highlighting the accessibility of Wendy Oaks RV Resort for travelers seeking convenient overnight accommodations.
