Best RV Parks & Resorts near Richton, MS

Turkey Fork Recreation Area near Richton provides RV camping with electric hookups and water access along a reservoir in De Soto National Forest. The campground features multiple sites with lakefront views, sanitary dump station, and accommodates larger RVs with drive-in access. "Nice and shady and all the sites are close to the water. Clean with basic facilities," noted one visitor about the camping experience. Full hookup options are limited in the immediate area, with most RVers needing to venture to nearby towns like Hattiesburg or Laurel for more developed RV parks.

RV travelers seeking full hookups should consider Sleepy Hollow RV Park in Laurel, approximately 30 miles from Richton, which offers concrete pads suitable for big rigs with full hookups including sewer, water, and electric. Four Seasons RV Park near Hattiesburg provides 14 sites with both 50-amp and 30-amp electrical service plus sewer hookups. During peak seasons and holidays, availability becomes limited at these smaller parks. A camper mentioned that at Turkey Fork "the bathrooms were clean" and the "Forestry service was friendly," though noted the park operates on an honor system for payment. Most RV parks in the region are pet-friendly, with varying restrictions on breed and number.

    Magnolia Sands RV Park

    Magnolia Sands RV Park, Mississippi

What a great little RV park Magnolia Sands is!! Bridgett and Gary offer a rural setting in southeast Mississippi. 5 miles from Wiggins, Ms. Park has 20 sites with full hook-ups. $24 for 30 amp and $26 per night for 50 amp. Beautiful park amongst the trees with its own pond. Concrete pads are large enough to handle most “big rigs”. Open year round and monthly rates are available. The park is 40 miles north of Gulf Port and Biloxi so finding some Gulf beaches is easy. On site is a laundry, game room, meeting room and bathrooms with showers. Basketball and volleyball areas provide recreational entertainment. A strong WiFi network is available. The nearby town of Wiggins has everything you’ll need! Restaurants, grocery stores and fuel.

If you are looking for a quite, peaceful, no frills spot to stay… I highly recommend Magnolia Sands RV Park! We have already booked our stay to return in March.

Little Black Creek Campground & Park

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hidden Gem — Can’t Believe I’d Never Heard of It!

We just spent the weekend at Little Black Creek Campground in Lumberton, MS, and it absolutely deserves a 5-star review. I live less than 2 hours away and honestly can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this place sooner — it’s a massive, beautifully wooded, and incredibly well-maintained hidden gem.

We stayed at a full hookup RV site and were blown away by how spacious, level, and private it was. Most sites had wooden decks, and many had lake views or direct access, including ours, which had stairs leading right down to the water and a picnic table on a platform. We didn’t see a single “bad” site in the whole park.

The lake is gorgeous, and swimming is allowed! They have kayaks, canoes, jon boats for rent, and even a bait shop onsite. There’s also fishing, hiking trails, disc golf (two full courses!), a general store, multiple bathhouses, and cute tiny cabin rentals for non-RV guests. They even have propane filling, golf cart rentals, and a dump station. It’s a great mix of peaceful nature and plenty to do.

The campground is huge and wooded, with tons of shade and a very peaceful, quiet, and family-friendly atmosphere. There are two beaches — one near the main camp side and another closer to long-term spots and day visitors. We brought our e-bikes and loved riding around the scenic roads and loops.

The bathhouses were older but very clean and air-conditioned, and we felt completely safe the entire time. There’s a gated entrance at night with code access, which is a nice extra touch. The store staff were super friendly and helpful, even giving us some history on the campground. The greeter at the front gate wasn’t the warmest, but that didn’t impact our stay at all.

There’s no Wi-Fi, but T-Mobile worked just enough for us to use a hotspot to stream TV at night. Cell service is limited but manageable.

It’s also very easy to find, just a few minutes off the main road with a gas station and small town nearby, and only about 30 minutes from Hattiesburg.

We will 100% be back and have already told several friends about it. If you’re looking for a peaceful, activity-filled campground that’s off the radar but worth every mile, Little Black Creek is it. Truly one of the best surprises we’ve had camping!

Paul B. Johnson State Park Campground

    Pleasantly surprised

We had the good fortune of finding this gem as an overnight waypoint on a recent trip to Florida. We found an asphalt pad with full hookups overlooking Lake Geiger for our Sprinter Camper van. Friendly staff. Good value. Primitive sites were still closed. The park features the Lake set in a tall pine forest and was near capacity but did not feel crowded or loud. We were only sorry that we did not budget enough time to enjoy all this place has to offer. We will not make that mistake next time!

    Big Creek Water Park

    Great overnight stay

Located between Collins & Laurel MS. Camped here in a camper van while visiting relatives in Laurel. Most sites accommodate big rigs, but there are a few tent sites as well. Popular campground; recommend reservations. We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to camp in site 18. Most sites are large with good separation between them. Wooded, but almost no privacy between sites. Quiet, secure. Good folks running it. We'll maintained grounds. The restroom/shower house was clean. There is a laundry room. Beach at lake. Folks fishing at lake. AT&T service okay. T-Mobile weaker.

    Turkey Fork Rec Area

    De Soto National Forest

This is a nice little fishing-focused area within the northern part of large national forest. The large lake has swimming, fishing, and boating so plan to be on the water all day. There is a nice shady area along the lake with picnic tables and grills. The hiking trail is very short. We spent half a day here relaxing while on a road trip and the mellow atmosphere was just perfect. Convenient to and from Hattiesburg/rt 59 as well as from Mobile.

Yay: Campground is nice and shady and all the sites are close to the water. Clean with basic facilities. Simple but nice nature setting. Close to trails in the national forest.

Nay: No complaints, but if you don’t have a boat there’s not much to do on site.

Surprise: They stock the lake with fish. Loved walking out onto the pier.

    Lake Perry Campground

    Fishing, Fishing, and Fishing

Lake Perry, Beaumont, MS: We stopped for an overnight stay. Worked fine. Most sites have an unhindered view of the lake. Currently, the fallen brown leaves and leafless deciduous trees do not make this campground inviting. I imagine the scenery is much more attractive in spring and into fall. However ,must be gorgeous those two times of year. This is a very old campground. Facilities are old. To Do: Fish and fish. The host, Joey, will go out of his way for you. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

(70 yr olds in 17’ trailer) Overall Rating: 3.5 Price 2023: $ 15 for seniors. Security: No gate Usage during visit: 10% Site Privacy: None Site Spacing: A few sites are closer than desirable. Most are okay. Site surface: Concrete Reservations: First-come, first-serve Campground Noise: Quiet, but one site did not try to control their dachshund’s barking. I hope this isn’t indicative of usual behavior. Road Noise: None Through Traffic in campground: No Electric Hookup: Yes Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: No Potable Water Available: At site Bathroom: Flush. Very old, but Showers: Very ugly Pull Throughs: No Cell Service (AT&T): Okay Setting: View of lake. Host: Yes Rig Size: A large 5 th wheel had to leave as there was not a site large enough. Our site, #1, was the only site the trailer would have fit.

Little Black Creek Campground & Park

    Peace and Tranquility

Seriously one of the more relaxing parks we've been to in a while. Plenty of space between sites, lots of trees and water views! We were in site 4, which was quite level and easy to back in to. Also had full hookups!!! No loud golf carts this week either! Our site was around 35 dollars a night with taxes. Family and pet friendly.

    Forest County Multi-Purpose Events Center

    quick overnight

Was alright for a quick overnight. Really needs some better maintenance and cleaning especially restrooms. Some “long term” RVs set up, pretty quiet though. Price increased to $25.

    Sleepy Hollow RV Park

    Hidden Gem!

We were evacuated to North LA for hurricane Ida. We wanted to find something closer after the storm passed. Found this place in a Google search and called to check availability. We figured we'd be out of luck being that we were trying to book labor day weekend. Luckily, a couple spots were available for us and our friends. As soon as we pulled in Kim greeted us and escorted us to our site, helped us back in, and made sure all of our plugs and hoses were long enough to reach. She even had extras available to lend us if needed. She made sure we were all settled in and everything was good before leaving. We couldn't have been luckier to have found this great little campground! After being cooped up in the camper and leashed outside, we were able to bring all of our pups to the enclosed dog play area that had a great big shade tree to run and run and run. Poop bags and garbage cans were convenient there and throughout the park. They had a nice little pool. Nothing fancy, but just what the kids needed. It wasn't busy in there so they had free reign to wear themselves out(after being cooped up in the campers too). There was a playground area right there between the pool and dog run. Then right next to there was the bath house and laundry room. The restrooms and showers were always clean, and I like that a code was needed to get in, I felt safe going there at night by myself. Since we were evacuating for much longer than we expected, we needed to do laundry too. 4 washers, 4 dryers. We were all so upset since between the 2 campers we had at least 5 or 6 loads of laundry needing to be done(between dogs and sick kids). We asked Kim about it, and the appliance people were there the very next day to fix all of them. She did say they come out once a week to check them all, but I'm sure she had something to do with their quick arrival. The campground is only a few minutes away from the city. There's walmart, walgreens, multiple grocery stores, dollar stores, and so much more. I was even able to bring our pup to a vet'soffice to get his nails clipped. Since we were there for so long we even found specialty coffee shops, nail shops, and an RV supply store all within about a 10 or so minute drive. They also have great wifi! Many of the spots were cement and beautifully leveled. We met a few really great people there, some that were camping, others that were also evacuated, and a couple that were staying there long term for various reasons. We were so lucky to have found Sleepy Hollow to stay when we needed a place most and we can't go back! Thank you Kim for being so gracious and welcoming!

Guide to Richton

Turkey Fork Recreation Area is situated in De Soto National Forest approximately 7 miles west of Richton, Mississippi. The campground sits along a 250-acre reservoir at an elevation of around 220 feet. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-95°F with high humidity, while winters are mild with occasional freezing temperatures.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Turkey Fork Reservoir is stocked with fish, making it popular among anglers. "Had a blast here. With great camper lots, scenic fishing spots, and friendly park staff me and my family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this park," notes a visitor to Turkey Fork Rec Area.

Golfing nearby: The Citronelle area offers camping combined with golf access. "We camped in site 17 in a 40' motor home and had plenty of space. Nice concrete pad, fire ring and picnic table. The lake is beautiful and water is clear," reports a camper at Citronelle Lakeview RV Park. Another visitor adds, "We loved Citronelle and will definitely go back regularly. Whole family enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and walking."

Swimming access: Turkey Fork has designated swimming areas across the lake from the camping area. "There are two different swimming areas and a boat dock just across the lake from the camp," shares a camper who visited in 2020.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate the more generous spacing between sites. "The sites were spaced further apart than many of the other campgrounds we've been. It was quite and peaceful," notes a reviewer at Turkey Fork Rec Area.

Natural shoreline: The undeveloped areas between campsites and water create a more natural feel. "They don't over-manicure the space between the lake and campsites so it feels more natural and tucked into nature than other places we've been (which we prefer). Better for the environment."

Pet amenities: Several RV parks provide dedicated pet areas. "We were able to bring all of our pups to the enclosed dog play area that had a great big shade tree to run and run and run. Poop bags and garbage cans were convenient there and throughout the park," says a camper at Sleepy Hollow RV Park.

What you should know

Honor system payment: Some public campgrounds operate with minimal staffing. "I love the honor system. Shady camping that overlooks the reservoir," mentions a visitor about Turkey Fork.

Bathroom facilities: Availability and quality of restrooms vary by campground. "We camp in a pop-up so we rely on the bath houses - these were clean and the showers were hot!" reports a Turkey Fork camper, while at Magnolia Sands RV Park, "On site is a laundry, game room, meeting room and bathrooms with showers."

Limited activities: Some campgrounds focus primarily on water recreation. "No complaints, but if you don't have a boat there's not much to do on site," notes one Turkey Fork visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Multiple areas for water recreation accommodate different age groups. "There's also a nice little pool. Nothing fancy, but just what the kids needed. It wasn't busy in there so they had free reign to wear themselves out," reports a family at Sleepy Hollow RV Park.

Playground access: Some campgrounds offer play equipment for children. "There was a playground area right there between the pool and dog run," mentions a camper at Wiggins Campground & RV Park, which another visitor describes as "Very clean throw out the park. Place to walk your dogs."

Wildlife interaction: Shoreline areas provide opportunities for nature observation. "The children enjoyed playing with the perch that would swim up to them," shares a family who visited Turkey Fork.

Tips from RVers

Parking pad conditions: Surface quality varies between campgrounds. "The sites were soft/sandy and not level. My in laws had their front tires of the RV off the ground after leveling," notes an RV camper at Turkey Fork.

Navigation challenges: Some RV parks have tight turns. "Overall I like the campground it is nice and mostly quiet the hiway does produce a bit of road noise but we could not hear it in the camper with the windows closed. Lots of turns so go slow and know your rig," advises a visitor to Sleepy Hollow RV Park.

Convenient overnight stops: For travelers passing through the Richton, Mississippi area, certain RV campgrounds offer easy access. "Convenient stop for an overnight stay. Small park with Full hook-ups just off the highway. Easy in and out," says a reviewer at Mike's Place RV Park.
