Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Gloster, MS

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Clear Springs Recreation Area offers pet-friendly camping with water and electric hookups at all sites for $20 per night. Located in the Homochitto National Forest, this campground features two separate loops for camping, with the upper loop providing better cell service and the lower loop being more suitable for families with children. Dogs are welcome throughout the campground and on hiking trails. Campsites include picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and are situated in wooded areas that provide natural shade. The campground bathhouses include showers and are heated during winter months. The lake area permits dogs but owners should be vigilant as water moccasins have been reported in the water.

Several hiking trails accommodate dogs on leashes, including a loop trail around the lake and a longer 10-mile trail through the forest. The Richardson Creek Trail provides additional hiking opportunities, though some visitors note it can become overgrown during summer months with the possibility of ticks affecting dogs. Percy Quin State Park also allows pets in its campground area, offering full hookup sites at $30 per night on weekends. Both camping areas maintain clean facilities and provide access to fishing, swimming, and boating opportunities where pets can join their owners. The natural setting includes rolling hills and wooded areas that provide pleasant walking routes for exercising dogs.

River View RV Park & Resort

    Great place!

This is the second time I have camped here and both times have been great! The park is on the banks of the Mississippi River just south of the bridge on the Vidalia. LA side. Great walking, biking, running path that you can follow under the bridge. Dog Park, playground for the kids, and pool. The staff always seem pleasant and there are plenty of squirrels, which my French Bulldog loves to chase. He’s a squirrel dog in his own mind! 🤣

    Very nice RV park

This is a very nice RV Park. It’s big. Almost 150 sites, with water, sewer and 30/50 amp electric. There are also a few tent sites with electricity. It’s well kept-grass is mowed, grounds and facilities are clean. There is a playground, a dog park, pool and hot tub. Showers and bathrooms are nice. Laundry room, small grocery/gift shop. And a guest lounge. There is a paved walking trail along the river. There is also a public boat ramp about 1/4 mile away for access to the Mississippi. Internet was sport. With this many Class A motorhomes and people streaming media the server can’t keep up.

    Big Rig Friendly

Nice wide roads in the park so easy to access your site. Pool area is very nice. There are tables, chairs, rocking chairs and recliners for your use. There is a large shaded area if you don’t want to sit in the sun. The lawns throughout the park are very well maintained. Very level sites with shade. A very nice enclosed dog park along with many paths to walk your dog. Utilities all work well. Like most campgrounds, there are lots of cigarette butts on the ground and dog poop. I don’t understand why people can not pick up after themselves! WIFI is spotty along with the over air channels. There were many dead large limbs in the trees above our site. We had a bad rain storm and many fell onto our roof. Luckily, we had no damage.

    Paradise Ranch RV Resort

Nice park, but not as impressed as I thought I’d be

This is my first stay at Paradise Ranch. I had pretty high expectations based upon their website and feedback from friends. Note: Apple Maps and RV Life GPS will route you to the old park entrance which is closed. The new entrance is about 200 yards further east along Hwy 48. The sign at the entrance is off the road and you could miss it if you dont pay attention.

Checking in, the lady gave me poor directions to my site. It was unclear where to turn after entering the gate and she routed me where Id have to back-in to my pull-through site.

A very hard rain storm came through as we were setting up. Had to go in the RV and wait out the rain. Afterwards, I noticed a number of the campsites and roads were flooded with a few inches of water. Some of my neighbors RVs were surrounded by water for a little while until it could drain away. Fortunately, my site did not flood.

The entrance road is concrete, but all of the roads within the park are gravel or dirt. Some sites have concrete pads, especially near the Lagoon. We stayed in pull-through campsite #P85 which was not shady and not very level. It was a gravel site with grass on either side. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are close. The site included: picnic table on grass and fire bowl. Utilities: 20/30/50A electric in the middle. Water in the middle, good pressure. Sewer towards the front with 4 screw-on fitting. I know they area I camped in is newly expanded and only opened up a few months ago. Im sure it will improve over time.

Bass Lake (onsite) is beautiful. The BL campsites are shady. I would probably stay along the lake if I came here again. There is an area near the lake where you can see (and pet) the red stag deer. There are also some hogs wandering around the lake that you can pet.

The Lagoon area has a lot of shade, except for the pool, of course. The pool is large and also incudes a kiddy pool. We were disappointed to find the zip line that is mentioned on their website was not there. There was a good live band on the stage Saturday night. They also had a number of activities for the kids throughout the day. We enjoyed the water gun wars. Some of the camp staff also participate. If you stay in a Lagoon campsite, Id recommend one on the west side as they are a few feet higher in elevation than those on the east side. There was standing water around the sites on the east side after the heavy rain.

AT&T had 4 bars of LTE and Verizon 1 bar of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 298 Mbps down, 28 Mbps up. No WiFi.

Stayed 3 nights in July. Would probably stay here again, especially if a group of friends wanted to go. But, there are nicer RV parks closer to my home. (Paradise Ranch is about 107 miles from home.)

    Tunica Hills Campground

    Campground was great!

Ms. Brenda is the best! This campground has all the amenities! Hot water is tricky but the coffee pot makes up for it. There’s a microwave as well. Most of all the sites are separated by the ravines. We hiked down to the creek from the site and also went on trail C at tunica. I wouldn’t recommend trail c if you have small kids unless you wear them in a pack. Brenda has wood you can purchase if you forgot or run out. We were right next to the bathroom, sink, and shower.

River View RV Park & Resort

    Spacious Campground

Mostly pull through full hookup sites. Nice grass inbetween sites, lots of shade trees, but not all spots shady, concrete pads (not sure if all are but most), gravel on roads, trash pickup at site, lots of grassy areas for walking dogs, some tent sites. Very attentive and friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again, had spot 111 at the end with a great view of the mighty Mississippi River. Accepts Good Sam discount.

Clear Springs Lake Rec Area NF Campground

    Well kept secret

This is a US Forest Service campground in the Homochitto Forest. The campground host doesn’t want the secret getting out. S/he jokingly told me “now don’t you go posting on social media” how much you love this place. But I do love this place. It’s definitely off the beaten track but worth the drive. It’s a great campground nestled in the woods. Some of the campsites border part of the lake and more are wooded. We stayed in the wooded area. Our campsite had a pretty picnic area with a wooden rail all around it and wooden steps down from the campsite to the picnic/grill area. There is a loop hiking trail around the lake and a longer mountain bike/hiking trail. The nearest town is Natchez, Mississippi so make sure stock up before you go to the campground. The campsites are mixed use RV/tent sites with water and electricity. They also have a dump station for RVs. There are two bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets. I have AT&T and had trouble getting a cell signal to make phone calls except when I was up by the bathhouse. They accept the America the Beautiful pass discounts.

Clear Springs Lake Rec Area NF Campground

In the middle of nature the national forest

This is a lovely national forest (Homochitto), very peaceful and classical Mississippi beauty. The developed part of the park is simple with picnic tables and a basic campground. There’s a short little trail around the lake (where you can go swimming, boating, fishing) and a much longer one out through the forest. Simple and absolutely beautiful camping here.

Yay: The park is historic in that it has classic CCC style buildings, but the restrooms have been updated. We stayed at the camping loop up above the lake. Both loops have some sites close to the water, both are very wooded. They also have a site for groups that is far enough away from the normal sites to keep noise down.

Nay: dirt roads can be hard for some vehicles, but if you have a 4x4 or horses they would be great for exploring.

Surprise: love the trail around the lake, especially the boardwalks. Would be amazing in fall but we haven’t been back then yet!

Guide to Gloster

Campgrounds near Gloster, Mississippi offer varying terrain across the Homochitto National Forest area, with elevations ranging between 200-400 feet. The rolling hills and wooded landscape create natural drainage patterns that affect camping conditions during Mississippi's rainy seasons. Water levels at creeks and lakes fluctuate seasonally, with summer months typically seeing lower water levels at Clear Springs Lake.

What to do

Hiking the Richardson Creek Trail: At Homochitto National Forest Clear Springs, there's a longer 10-mile trail through the forest beyond the lake loop. "There is a longer 10 mile hike around the forest," notes Team D., who recommends exploring during off-season. Be aware that trail conditions vary by season.

Kayaking on Lake Tangipahoa: Percy Quin State Park offers easy kayak access directly from waterfront sites. "We brought our kayaks and were able to dock at our campsite. We had a lot of fun playing in the lake," reports Jason R. The lake is suitable for beginners with gentle shorelines.

Wildlife watching: Early mornings offer the best wildlife viewing opportunities throughout the national forest. "We were lucky enough to never cross paths with a snake but be on the alert they are out there," advises Sharon A. about Clear Springs. Bring binoculars for spotting deer, various bird species, and occasional small mammals.

Mississippi River views: The concrete riverfront walkway at River View RV Park & Resort offers unique river watching opportunities. "We spent a few days at River View RV Park in January, visiting Natchez and enjoying the view of the Mississippi River," shares Art Z. The walkway provides safe viewing points for observing barge and boat traffic.

What campers like

Level sites with amenities: Campers consistently mention site quality at Natchez State Park Campground. "We stayed in Campground "B"; nice area with some sites on the lake. Be careful selecting your site, some are uneven and the pad sets above ground level," advises Rod A. Sites include grills and fire pits for cooking.

Natural swimming areas: The spring-fed waters at Clear Springs Lake provide a refreshing swimming experience. "There is a large pond to fish and swim. Picnic areas and well maintained banks," reports Michael U. The swimming area features both shallow and deeper sections.

Wooded privacy: Many campsites offer natural separation through strategic placement. "The campsite was nice, no firepit, but we were able to make a fire. It was rainy when we were there, so we spent time outside the park," notes Deborah C. about Natchez State Park. Tree coverage helps block wind and provides shade during summer heat.

Bathroom facilities: Most campgrounds maintain clean, functional facilities. "Bathhouse has had a facelift. 2 separate camping areas. The area up the hill away from the lake has smaller rv pads," says Jason R. about Clear Springs Lake. During winter, heated facilities provide additional comfort.

What you should know

Lake conditions vary: Water moccasins have been reported in some campground lakes. "I went to visit Clear Springs. It is run down, roads are narrow and broken up, there are water moccasins in the lake. Nothing like the beautiful place it was," cautions Brenda D.

Cell service limitations: Reception depends on location within campgrounds. "The upper loop provides better cell service," notes Johan S. at Clear Springs Recreation Area. Verizon and AT&T service is spotty in most locations throughout the region.

Road access challenges: Some campgrounds require navigation of narrow, potentially rough roads. "The entry road is not really suited to most RVs," Robert E. mentions about Natchez State Park. Recent weather conditions can affect road quality significantly.

Off-season benefits: Winter and early spring visits offer less crowded experiences. "We arrived Sunday morning in February and only two other campers were here," reports Team D. Many facilities remain open year-round, though some amenities may be limited.

Tips for camping with families

Best loop selection: For families with children, lower campground loops often provide better layouts. "The lower loop being more suitable for families with children," confirms Johan S. about Clear Springs. These areas typically offer flatter terrain for bikes and play equipment.

Playground access: Paradise Ranch RV Resort offers multiple play areas for different age groups. "Nice pool area and playground for kids. Concerts on the weekends and red stag and potbelly pigs roam freely on the property," notes Aaron M. The playground areas include equipment suitable for ages 3-12.

Wildlife interactions: Children enjoy supervised wildlife encounters at several parks. "My kids fed the deer some corn and they will eat it right from your hands," shares Abraham H. about Paradise Ranch. Always monitor children during these interactions and follow park guidelines.

Swimming options: Many parks offer swimming areas with varying depths. "The lake area permits dogs but owners should be vigilant," as water conditions vary seasonally. Some parks offer dedicated shallow areas for younger children with gradual entry points.

Tips from RVers

Site selection guidance: At Tunica Hills Campground, RV access requires careful planning. "If you want to go camping were the GPS can't get you there but good old fashion directions will this is the place for you!" advises Kindred P. Call ahead to confirm access for your specific RV length.

Hookup reliability: Water pressure and electrical stability vary between sites. "Water pressure at my site was 40 psi no issues," reports Rod A. about Natchez State Park. Bring pressure regulators and surge protectors for equipment safety.

Leveling requirements: Several campgrounds require leveling blocks. "Sites are flat, well groomed, with access to the pond and trail around the pond," notes Team D. about Clear Springs. Concrete pads are available at some sites, but not all are perfectly level.

Dump station access: Most campgrounds provide dump stations, though locations vary. "They also have a dump station. Bathrooms with showers at each loop," reports Fabein D. about Turkey Town at Clear Springs. Schedule departures to avoid morning dump station congestion.
