Best Cabin Camping near Forest, MS

Cabin accommodations near Forest, Mississippi include several options for travelers seeking rustic shelter with modern amenities. Bienville National Forest Marathon Lake offers cabin rentals within a forested setting, operating seasonally from March through mid-December. Roosevelt State Park Campground provides cabin options with lake views and access to swimming areas. "The cabins available, but they didn't appear to be in the best of condition," noted one visitor who appreciated the park's beauty despite some maintenance concerns. Most cabins include basic furnishings with varying levels of amenities—some offer full kitchens while others provide only minimal cooking facilities.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Turkey Creek Water Park and Yogi on the Lake both feature cabin rentals with access to recreational facilities. Pet policies vary by location, with most parks allowing pets but imposing restrictions or additional fees. Reservations are recommended, particularly during summer months when occupancy rates increase. A camper who stayed at Movietown RV Park mentioned, "There's rental lots and cabins by the night, week and month," indicating flexible booking options for various stay durations.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities range from fully equipped to minimal, with some cabins offering only outdoor cooking options via fire rings or grills. Basic supplies can be purchased at camp stores in Roosevelt State Park and Yogi on the Lake, though selection is limited. Grocery stores and more extensive shopping options are available in nearby towns. Firewood is sold at most parks or at nearby gas stations, as one reviewer noted about Roosevelt State Park: "They do not sell firewood here anymore, but there is a gas station across the street that does."

    Roosevelt State Park Campground

    Excellent state park!

We loved our stay. Beautiful park, nice campsites, heated and clean bathroom, best spots are on the lake. We stayed in spot 15 and it was beautiful.

A couple reasons I didn’t give it 5 stars, even though we loved it. First, we reserved a spot weeks prior and someone was in it when we arrived around 5pm. The park was very helpful and accommodating once we found the right phone number. I wish they would put signs on the reserved spots to avoid the hassle.

Second, they do not sell firewood here anymore, but there is a gas station across the street that does.

Also, the fire ring and the table/grill are on opposite sides on the parking spaces and there are no cooking grates on the fire ring unfortunately. But the grill was very clean!

But seriously, would recommend!!! Just want to help our fellow campers out with some details of the digs!

    Roosevelt State Park Campground

This is what a State Park should look like!

Smooth paved roads, level concrete pads, picnic tables that will seat 8, fire ring and grill at each site.. This park has been completely remodeled and they did a fantastic job. Pull thru's and back in's available.

We stopped on our return trip home for one night, so we did not check out the bathhouse/showers.

    Clarkco State Park Campground

Woodsy state park with dispersed camping near a lake

State park near Alabama/Mississippi border. Nice park. Chose to do primitive camping for $15 plus tax, but they offer other options too. -dispersed camping -some sites near lake -mediocre fire pits -picnic table -quiet aside from other campers -other campers seem like they get kind of rowdy there, but this was also a holiday weekend -the sites aren’t numbered and are hard to find in the dark because the fire pits and picnic tables are randomly placed throughout the woods. It was like a treasure hunt to find them. -the amenities were far away which is why we’re giving it 4 stars.

    Big Creek Water Park

    Great place

Sites are roomy. All the things you need-electricity water fire ring and concrete picnic table. Lake playground. Bath house with flush toilets. Could use an update but not bad. Just a beautiful setting.

    Dunns Falls Water Park

    Okay for one night

Camping area is about five tables and grills scattered on edge of property. No real sites (no tent pads, no fire rings). Surprisingly little regulation: fires allowed anywhere, swimming “not recommended.” The friendly camp hosts actually encouraged me to camp in the day use/picnic area, since it is closer to the flush restrooms. Water spigots scattered around but most don’t work. Gate to park locks at 5pm (key provided at check in) which is nice for security. Clean area. Close to a highway but few cars traveling at night. I was the only person camping on a weekday.

$15/night. Not bad considering the locking gate and restrooms with water. The historical structures are neat, as is the waterfall. The whole park can be explored in less than an hour, so I can’t imagine staying multiple nights.

Guide to Forest

Cabin rentals near Forest, Mississippi offer access to fishing, hiking, and water recreation at several campgrounds within a 45-minute drive. The region features a mix of pine forests and water features with elevations ranging from 300-450 feet. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F while winters remain mild, rarely dropping below freezing at night.

What to do

Fishing for bass and bream: At Turkey Creek Water Park, guests can fish directly from piers or venture onto the water. "Small campground on a lake. Pretty and quiet. Recent work on campsites to create level sites," notes Nelwyn B. The lake features abundant lily pads where bass hide.

Water sports and boating: Yogi on the Lake - Jellystone Pelahatchie offers multiple water activities for families. "We spent a weekend in October here and absolutely loved it... Water park is heated which I didn't know and wished we brought swim suits," shares Melissa G. The park maintains a heated pool system even during cooler months.

Hiking trails: At Roosevelt State Park Campground, visitors can explore forested paths marked for navigation. "The trails are an addition to the park. We love to get out and walk the woods," writes Bruce F. Trail markers are painted on trees to prevent hikers from getting lost.

What campers like

Lake access and views: Many cabin sites at Roosevelt State Park Campground feature lake views. "I stayed in site 13 which was right on the lake. The view was beautiful. The spot was really large with plenty of room for tents and hammocks," reports Danielle L. The old campground section offers more shaded waterfront sites.

Quiet, natural settings: Wendy Oaks RV Resort provides a peaceful environment with lake views. "Such a nice RV Park. We stayed in spot #1 and had a beautiful view of the lake, nice fire pit and picnic table. Our kids and babies loved feeding the ducks and walking around the lake," explains Whitney S.

Clean facilities: Cabin guests appreciate well-maintained shower buildings. "Smooth paved roads, level concrete pads, picnic tables that will seat 8, fire ring and grill at each site... This park has been completely remodeled and they did a fantastic job," states Scotty W. about Roosevelt State Park's renovations.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Bienville National Forest Marathon Lake operates only from March through mid-December. Some facilities close unexpectedly; "Unfortunately we were unable to get in, a sheriff at the gate turned us around," reported Anna L.

Maintenance varies by location: While some parks have undergone renovations, others need updating. "Been camping there for years. Some of the sites are pretty rough and in need of repair and they are working on them in stages," Andy B. notes about Roosevelt State Park.

Weather considerations: Summer heat requires preparation with high humidity. Winter visitors should verify heating systems in cabins. "We stopped quick passing through and it was nice an quiet. Seemed like they had a lot of water activities for summer time," mentions Ashley S. about visiting Yogi on the Lake during off-season.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities for kids: DLo Water Park offers river-based recreation popular with families. "Plenty of river to explore and shuttles to pick you up after a float too. Good fishing, and good river banks. Very scenic tent camping, with the river right behind you," James A. explains.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. "Easy to get too off of the highway- sites are nice and level with cement pads and picnic tables and grills. Two playgrounds for the kids," notes Bille W. about DLo Water Park.

Scheduled activities: Some parks organize events for families throughout the day. "So much fun, so much to do! We stayed on the lakes edge, had visits from geese, ducks, rabbits and squirrels... planned activities each day for family fun," shares Shirley B. about her experience at Yogi on the Lake.

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: At Timberlake Campground, site quality varies significantly. "Parts of it is very well cared for & maintained, but a large area needs serious attention. Our site was in that area. The concrete pads were badly broken & uneven," warns Joy R.

Arrival timing: Late arrivals should note check-in procedures. "We got in late so we registered at the closed office door by putting our $27 payment in an envelope in the door slot. How convenient!" John N. shares about Movietown RV Park.

Accessibility issues: Some sites present challenges for larger vehicles. "Nice park. Best spots are in the 14-17 area flatter that others. Some spots are very narrow and drop off as soon as you leave the pad," advises Grant C. about navigating Roosevelt State Park.
