    Vista Green RV Resort

    Large, beautiful campground

Our site was $65.63 a night. (This was the average after receiving one night free for staying a week).

We were in Site# 4A (premium site). We had Full hook- up with a blacktop pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level.

Our site was not shaded with limited trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table. There was not a fire ring since only propane fires are allowed.

There is free WiFi. They do not offer Cable TV but there are many local channels.

There is an adult pub-style game room with poker tables, a large tv, a table shuffle board, air hockey game, foosball table, and board games. There is a community catering kitchen located in their activities center.

They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster. This can be a long distance for some.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent golf carts. It is beneficial to have a golf cart to get around since it is a large campground. We have our own e-bikes which helped.

They do have a large heated Swimming pool and an adults only hot tub. There is a fitness center.

They have quite a few ponds throughout the campground.

There is not a Playground. They offer pickleball courts.

There is not a general store nor snack bar/restaurant on site.

The streets are paved and good for riding bikes.

This is solely an RV park. They do not have any cabins to rent or any tent areas.

The showers are located in the activity center. These are typical stalls. There is a great area to hang clothes and store your toiletries in the shower stall. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. There are approximately 4 washers and 4 dryers. They allow you to use cash or an app. It is approximately $2.25 to wash and $2 to dry a load.

They do not have a fenced in dog park. There are areas to walk dogs though.

Bugs/gnats were a small issue and bug spray was needed.

There is supposedly a mowed trail to hike off of the campground (about 3 miles) but I was unable to locate it.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are the shops (Front Street) & water activities in Traverse City, the local wineries/vineyards, and the DNR Outdoor Shooting range (5 miles away & free to the public). We ate at Yankee Boy where all of the locals hangout. Excellent food (no alcohol served).

    Indigo Bluffs RV Park

    Love, Love, Love this campground

My goal is always to find campgrounds that are in state park or national forest settings, but with all the conveniences of a private campground. It’s a bonus if there are lots of things to do in the area. Indigo Bluffs delivers on all fronts. We had a lovely, shaded, level, spacious site which most of them seemed to be.

The campground was large - it’s actually two parts - an RV resort for large fifth wheels and Class As and another campground for everyone else. I really liked the regular campground as it had a lot more shade than the RV resort area.

Indigo Bluffs is close to Empire which has a beach and Joe’s Friendly Tavern. Joe’s has excellent hamburgers and plenty of beer variety. It is also close to a trailhead for the Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Bike Trail. The Sleeping Bear Dunes trail is wonderful, a bit hilly, but oh so scenic! It is also close to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park and the infamous Dune Climb. We took a short drive to Sutton’s Bay and rode on the Leelanau Bike Trail to Traverse City. If you do this, be sure to stop at Farm Club on the way back. Excellent brewery and farm-to-table restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating and a farm market.

We will definitely return to Indigo Bluffs!

    Indigo Bluffs RV Park

    Family oriented

This campground has two sides, the campground which accommodates tents, campers and RVs. Also they have small cabins. They offer full hookups as well as 30 & 50 amp service.  Nice shower and bathroom facilities, coin laundry, pool, and camp store. The other side is the “luxury RV Resort” with concrete pads, grass, ponds and lots of greenery. Very upscale.

    Sun Retreats Silver Lake

    Beautiful RV resort

This place is very nice and conveniently located to the dunes and all of the local attractions. We decided to rent a cabin this time since our toy hauler was in the shop. The cabins are very clean and up to date with modern appliances. All of their campsites are on a concrete pad and the lawns are groomed perfectly. The pool and hot tub are a great way to relax after spending a day on the dunes.

D.H. Day Campground — Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Great campground, close to so much to do!

We spent most of our time at the pet friendly beach. So many places to hike and so much fun to swim. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We hiked or swam, visited and attempted to climb the dunes lol, saw some shows at the amphitheater and saw a historic cabin on site. A firewood vending machine? Pretty basic camping but very nice.

    Traverse Bay RV Resort

    Very high-end class A Resort

We have spent six weeks at this park for the last 6 years. We attend a horse show circuit near by. It is the creme de la creme of RV parks. The sites are individually owned (and leased out) and many of the owners have made their lots very nice. The park is limited to Class A, Fifth Wheels and Class C only. This park is dominated by big, very nice class A's.

We have a 5th wheel and have appreciated the amenities very much. Great wifi, curbside garbage pickup, trails, dog park, and many others. You are limited to 2 dogs, and they are very strict about leashes and picking up poop. But, that keeps the place looking nice.

We enjoy it very much and it is so close to the horse show, it cannot be beat. Because they are such a popular place to stay during the show (July - mid August), they sites book up a year in advance.

    Indigo Bluffs RV Park

Awesome facility. Shaded sites that are good size. We have a 23' travel trailer and has plenty of room. Full hook ups including sewer make it very convenient.

    Traverse City State Park Campground

    Big Campground, Bigger Location

This campground is huge! 300+ sites, pet friendly, sites for all shapes and sizes. Open year round, with heated cabins. It's a great location, just across from Traverse Bay with just across the road. With that being said, one downside is that road, a VERY busy main drag through Traverse City. Very loud. There is s bridge walk over said busy road to beach access. The campground was very busy and bustling with families. Only 30 minutes from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

    Riverside Park Campground

Nice Little Park on a River

When you first enter the campground you pass by the Pere Marquette River which is a big draw because it is known for great salmon and trout fishing. The park is located in Scottville which is a tiny town but you are only 15 minutes from the Lake Michigan beach town of Ludington. The campground is fairly small (50 sites) but well laid out and will fit any camping unit from tents to large RVs. There are primitive sites and those with electric, water, cable, picnic tables & fire pits. There is a nice, new bathroom that was kept clean. The campground has a very open feel to it with trees on the outskirts. The openness and warm sunshine was appreciated when we were there in late October and experiencing cooler weather. Campsites are on grass and most were in pretty good shape and not too muddy even though we were there at the end of the camping season.

For a little park, this place has a lot of amenities including swimming pools, convenience store (with ice cream treats for $1), playground, basketball, volleyball, horseshoe pits, fishing, paddling, disc golf, shuffle board, laundry rooms, and clean restrooms.  The best part for us was the access to the river for kayaking. There are many nearby rental and livery companies for those that do not have their own watercraft. If you are looking for good hiking trails check out Ludington State Park and the Huron-Manistee National Forest – both of which also have camping. Overall, we really liked this little park. There were just a handful of sites occupied during our stay which made it nice and quiet.

Guide to Onekama

Family-friendly campgrounds surround Onekama, Michigan, with sites available from April through October when temperatures range from 60-80°F during summer months. The area sits near Portage Lake and Lake Michigan, creating diverse camping options within a 30-mile radius. Cellular coverage varies significantly between campgrounds, with stronger signals closer to larger towns and spotty coverage in more remote locations.

What to do

Trail access for ATVs and UTVs: Manton Trails RV Park offers direct ORV trail access from campsites. "Great campground. Booked two nights and had to request a third it was so perfect. We went up because it advertised orv access right from campsite. It's really handy to not have to trailer over to the trailheads," reports one visitor.

Water recreation on Hodenpyl Dam lake: Campsites at Northern Exposure Campground provide lake views and water access. "Beautiful campground on the Manistee River! Nice facilities too," notes a camper. The campground rents boats and features a dedicated launch area for those bringing personal watercraft.

Seasonal events and live entertainment: Weekend activities distinguish many area campgrounds. "Whether it's trail riding, Traverse City Cherry festival or hanging in the town of Manton. There is always something going on. Spacious, super clean bath house and on Saturday nights listen to live music right at your campsite!" explains a Manton Trails visitor.

What campers like

Spacious sites with privacy: Many campgrounds near Onekama feature larger-than-average sites. At Kampvilla Park, guests appreciate the generous spacing. "Owners are the best!! Quiet and clean campground," notes one camper. Another adds, "Very clean and well kept. Close to every kind of recreation you can think of."

Indoor recreation options: Several parks maintain indoor facilities for rainy days. "The indoor pavilion area is great for rainy days. There are board games and puzzles to do. Plus ping pong and foosball!" shares a Kampvilla visitor. This provides alternatives when weather conditions aren't ideal.

Clean bathroom facilities: Timber Ridge RV Resort and other campgrounds maintain exceptional bathroom standards. "Extremely clean bathrooms n showers. So much to do right here at the campground. Very visible and friendly," notes a visitor. Modern facilities often include separate family bathrooms and regularly serviced shower areas.

What you should know

Seasonal operating schedules: Most campgrounds close between November and March. A visitor to Northern Exposure noted, "We will be back," but the park only operates "May 1 to Nov 30." Winter camping options are extremely limited in this region.

Reservation requirements: Peak season demands advance planning. "This is a very large campground that is usually full during the summer," explains a visitor to Timber Ridge. Many parks begin accepting reservations for the following season as early as September.

Campground terrain variations: While some parks feature level sites, others present challenges. "Our first site was pretty unlevel but we were able to move without issue," reports a camper at Timber Ridge RV Resort. Requesting specific site information when booking helps avoid setup difficulties.

Tips for camping with families

Recreational options for all ages: Family-friendly activities abound at established campgrounds. At Northern Exposure, "The staff was all very nice, the grounds were clean, and our lot was huge. We asked to be away from the lake because of our young kids but the lake lots looked beautiful." The park also features "Nice little camp store and pizza restaurant on site. Great playground, evening activities."

Safety considerations: Sites near water require additional planning. "Easy water access for very little children and non-motorized boats/Kayaks, etc," notes a Northern Exposure camper. Consider requesting sites farther from water features when traveling with toddlers or non-swimmers.

Indoor alternatives for bad weather: "The indoor pavilion area is great for rainy days. There are board games and puzzles to do," writes a Kampvilla Park visitor. Several campgrounds maintain covered recreation areas for weather disruptions.

Tips from RVers

Site surface options: Concrete pads provide advantages for RV leveling. At Vista Green RV Resort, "Our site was $65.63 a night. We had Full hook-up with a blacktop pull-through. We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep. The site was easy to level."

Utility placement considerations: Hookup locations impact setup convenience. A visitor to Vista Green noted, "The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table. There was not a fire ring since only propane fires are allowed." Some parks prohibit wood fires, requiring campers to bring propane fire pits.

Golf cart availability: Larger campgrounds often necessitate personal transportation. "You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent golf carts. It is beneficial to have a golf cart to get around since it is a large campground," explains a Vista Green visitor. Electric bicycles provide alternatives at campgrounds permitting their use.
