Most RV camping options near Wilmington, Massachusetts sit within 20 miles of the town, spread across northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The region features relatively mild summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F during peak camping season, with coastal RV parks typically receiving ocean breezes that moderate humidity. The terrain throughout the camping corridor consists primarily of mixed hardwood forests with both flat, developed RV sites and more rugged wooded camping areas available.
What to do
Hiking trails with water access: At Tuxbury Pond RV Campground in South Hampton, NH, campers can enjoy both wooded trails and boating. "There were a lot of seasonal campers, but everyone was very nice and some sites in other sections are closer together. It's a great base for sightseeing," notes Betty H.
Golf enthusiasts: The Hidden Valley RV and Golf Park combines camping with golf opportunities. "This campground is 1300 acres owned and operated by the Simonsen family in Derry, NH. The main attraction of this campground is the golf course of 9 or 18 holes. There is a pro shop, golf cart rentals, etc," shares Christy C.
Family entertainment: Many campgrounds offer structured activities and shows. One camper at Tuxbury Pond mentioned, "The band was good & the stand up comedy was awesome. For the most part, the comedians kept it fairly clean & our 9 yr old did not get any of the jokes that were a little sassy."
What campers like
Beach access: Beach Rose RV Park provides convenient beach proximity. "Great campground, though spaces are small, place is clean, nice pool and staff is very friendly, helpful and responsive! It's only about a mile from the beach. We rode bikes to Salisbury Beach and my young adult son rode his longboard to the beach," says Ray C.
Well-maintained facilities: Spacious Skies Minute Man offers clean grounds and amenities. "Nestled among tall pines is this hidden gem. Sites are moderately sized in good condition and we experienced no noise issues during our week here. Pool is small but quality. We enjoyed the ping pong table!! Also have arcade, volleyball, and pet walk area," notes Mary F.
Historic exploration: The location provides access to historic sites. "Concord is only 30 minute drive away with two full days of revolutionary historic sites, and famous people home tours such as Louisa May Alcott. Lots of good coffee spots and restaurants in historic downtown Concord so spend a morning in this special city," explains Ann B. about staying at Spacious Skies Minute Man.
What you should know
GPS navigation challenges: Some RV parks have difficult entrances to locate. At Tuxbury Pond, one camper noted, "A little tip about GPS: if you're using Apple Maps, it will likely take you to a turn that is not the campground entrance, there's even a hand-written sign on someone's lawn that has directions to the entrance (seems to happen frequently, I guess)."
Site selection matters: At Seacoast Camping and RV Resort, campers should understand the layout. "Half of the park is seasonal campers (which is a lot more cramped and more junked up) and the other half is for transients. The two sides are separated by a tree line where the tent sites are located," explains Nancy W.
Water availability varies: Some campgrounds have limitations. At Douglas Forest RV Resort, visitors found varied water quality, while at Woodmore Family Campground, one camper noted, "Week-long stay in our Imagine. 2nd hurricane Henri, flooded out all the low areas."
Off-season considerations: Most RV campgrounds near Wilmington operate seasonally. Spacious Skies Minute Man provides camping in cooler months, while Tuxbury Pond closes mid-October through late April.
Tips for camping with families
Activity options: Woodmore Family Campground offers multiple recreation options. "We tent camped here with 2 other families in the summer of 2019. Everything was clean, staff was friendly and attentive. Pool was clean, they have a great wiffleball park," shares Salvatore P.
Playground access: Many campgrounds have kid-friendly areas. "Beautiful campground, clean facilities, decently priced. The pool, playground, bathrooms, and basketball court were all open and well maintained. We really enjoyed our stay!" notes Kristen L. about Tuxbury Pond.
Entertainment scheduling: Check activity calendars when booking. One Tuxbury Pond camper mentioned, "A staff member came to our site and let us know that there is an 18+ comedy show but there was a children's movie being played on a big screen on the other side of the campground."
Tips from RVers
Site dimensions: At Beach Rose RV Park, spaces can be tight but manageable. "We thought the small campsites would bother us, but after one day we got used to it and it was fine. Neighboring campers were all very friendly. We'd definitely go back again!" says Ray C.
Road navigation: Some parks have challenging internal roads. One Seacoast camper noted, "The roads in the park are fairly narrow and we had to drive over the grass across from our site in order to back in. Lucky for us nobody was parked in that site."
Site surface types: Prepare for different parking surfaces. "Our site was a gravel back-in which was plenty long and level," reported Nancy W. about Seacoast Camping, while at Spacious Skies Minute Man, another RVer mentioned, "Site seems level for the most part, made of gravel."
Hookup placement: Position can vary between parks. At Beach Rose RV Park, campers appreciate the concrete pads with full hookups, while at Mill Brook RV Park, the water/electric/sewer connections are placed for easy access.
