    Duck Puddle Campground

    Great waterfront sites!

We love coming to Duck Puddle in the shoulder season (spring and fall) when it’s quiet. The waterfront sites (61-66) offer direct access to the lake and have trees between the site for a more private feel. Some have a private dock for fishing or sitting, others have a small beach area. The lake is great for swimming and paddling.

The rest of the campground is more busy and has the sites closer together, which isn’t our scene. Lots of fun stuff for kids to do and evening activities if you like that sort of thing.

    Balsam Cove Campground

    Great place!

We stayed here one night in September in a Tuesday. Quiet, very few people. Had a non electric site without water and paid the same price as the state park in Camden. This place had much nicer showers and bathrooms. Would return!

    Hadley's Point Campground

    Nice looking park ! clean

Nice site one of the more expensive campgrounds in the area. Polite staff I asked if I could rinse off the front and back of Airstream as they have dusty roads here. The said no not even without soap. I asked no we are on a well. First time I was told no in two years of travel . Even in upscale parks most let you rinse the bugs off

Not a real complaint just a note .

    Meguniticook by the Sea Campground

    Overpriced!

Corporations are buying up the private campgrounds and charging ridiculous prices. The three around Campden, ME have 4 day minimums making the most basic RV site $ 225 to $260 per stay.

    Bar Harbor/Oceanside KOA

    Great choice

The Campground offers basically everything that’s needed for a good experience. There are kids amenities and activities, there’s a shop inside of the campground with a little of everything you might need. We rented a site next to the ocean, and it was great!

Shore Hills Campground & RV Park

    Lovely River View

Nice campground with a mix of tent/rv sites some in the woods, some by the river and some pretty close to the road. The sites were fairly close to each other but we had a  site at the end that had wonderful views of the river and we could angle our camper so we had privacy. The river is tidal and so unless you want to wade threw mud there is not access beyond a couple hours around high tide. Bath house was old but clean. Coin pay for hot water in the showers. Old school in that you have to call to make reservations and they do not accept credit cards. A few children but it was mostly adults the weekend we visited. Quiet, peaceful, relaxing.

    Bar Harbor/Oceanside KOA

Best camp views of 2025 season

I’m always appreciative when booking KOA. This site did not disappoint. Tricky parking but wonderful to have the views to myself and one other neighbor. Beach front, able to swim and SUP right from the campsite. Amazing fire pit. Bathrooms are far, and only 3 showers, one was down. But they were clean. Overall will book again.

What to do

Hiking at Camden Hills State Park: Located about 20 minutes from Searsmont, this park offers multiple trail options. "The park has miles and miles of hiking trails just outside our doorstep. Driving the tour road to the summit of Mt. Battie (elevation 800') is a must and the views are spectacular (especially for watching the sunrise)," notes Nancy W. from Camden Hills State Park Campground.

Kayaking on Sennebec Lake: The calm waters of this lake provide excellent paddling opportunities. "We love the proximity to the lake with easy access for kayaking and swimming," shares Pam A. from Sennebec Lake Campground, which offers 120 sites with direct water access.

Visiting nearby coastal towns: The area serves as a central base for exploring Maine's midcoast. "The campground is centrally located, just at the edge of downtown Camden. What campers like

Oceanfront experiences: Waterfront sites provide memorable coastal camping. "The ocean overlook is beautiful in the morning sunrise," reports Jess Y. from Megunticook Campground, which features both wooded sites and ocean views.

Social activities: Many campgrounds organize community events. "The park organizes a lot of group activities including pot lucks, lobster shore dinners, and free wine and beer during Friday Happy Hours," writes Nancy W. who stayed at Moorings Campground near Belfast.

Access to small towns: Proximity to Maine's coastal communities rates highly. "This was the perfect location to explore the mid Maine coast.
