Awesome Campground
We love the ocean view campsites.
The midcoast region surrounding Morrill, Maine features a diverse range of camping experiences within a 30-minute drive. Camden Hills State Park Campground, located about 15 miles southwest of Morrill, serves as a centerpiece for the area with both wooded and open field sites accommodating tents, RVs, and limited glamping options. Searsport Shores Ocean Campground to the east provides direct ocean access with boat-in capabilities, while Lake St. George State Park Campground offers year-round camping with lakefront sites. The area balances state-managed facilities with smaller private operations like Continuous Harmony Farm, which maintains just four tent sites for a more intimate camping experience.
Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from mid-May through mid-October, with some facilities transitioning to walk-in only after Labor Day. Winter camping options are limited primarily to Lake St. George State Park. Reservations become essential during summer weekends when coastal sites fill quickly. As one Camden Hills visitor noted, "The trails in Camden Hills State Park offer some of the most beautiful views on the coast. I personally am a sucker for ocean views from mountaintops." Cell service varies significantly throughout the area, with stronger signals near larger towns like Belfast and Camden. Many campgrounds provide at least basic amenities including drinking water and restrooms, though shower facilities vary widely in availability and quality.
Waterfront camping represents a particular highlight of the Morrill area, with several campgrounds offering direct water access. Sites along lakes, rivers, and the ocean typically command premium prices but deliver memorable experiences. A Searsport Shores camper described their experience: "Our site looked right over the water with direct access to Maine's rocky shore. Everything you need to be comfortable including hot showers and bathrooms cleaned three times a day." Privacy levels differ significantly between campgrounds, with state parks generally offering more space between sites than private RV parks. Temperature fluctuations can be significant even in summer, with cool ocean breezes moderating coastal areas while inland sites may experience warmer daytime temperatures.

We love the ocean view campsites.
We stayed at Wild Acadia in July 2025. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the resort was overall. The campsites weren't huge but definitely big enough and ours was decently level. The resort features a pool with splash zone and slides, mini golf and other outside games. The resort was an easy drive Acadia National Park and other popular spots in Maine. The staff was very helpful and polite. I would absolutely recommend and would definitely stay here again.
we stayed for two nights here because our close friends were getting married in Boothbay… We are originally from southern Maine so Boothbay is an area. We are familiar with. We were very pleased with the overall aesthetics. The sites are sufficient, and the amenities are immaculate. The brewery was an absolute gem.
Camden Hills is an ideal camping location. Sites are spacious, they have a variety of trails, and the town of Camden is charming.
Beware of weekend campers. I had no problem getting a first come first serve spot on Wednesday, but by Friday, it was busy.
Stayed here in October, the week before they shut down for the season. Staff was friendly and super helpful. Snowmobile trails behind the campground lead to a walking path that connects the high school and elementary school for a pleasant walk in the woods.
I was worried when I decided to come to this part of Maine in the fall without reservations. It’s early October, and I learned that Maine State Parks are first come first serve at this point. I was pleasantly surprised to arrive and find plenty of vacant spots.
The campground is large, and most of the sites are on the larger side. They tend to be nestled into the woods with plenty of trees, dividing the sites. Though some of the smaller RV sites are more compact.
It’s a great location, close to Camden, Maine, and not far from other attractions.
I’m here in 2025 and they are doing work on their water system so none of their water is potable
I love the spot but all the wood is from outside the campgrounds. Its not so “dry” more like just chopped and bundled had to tend to it for over a hour+ just to get enough dry to keep the fire going. But overall a very nice quite camprground.
Very nice with easy access with wonderful hosts.
Online the prices was 40$ for a tent site. We didn’t need water or electric just a spot to sleep for the night. I called to reserve cause the website wasn’t very easy to work with and the man on the phone said 76$ but couldn’t explain costs and was rude with the “you’ll not find another spot for this cheap!” Which we did. For less than half that cost. So watch out on prices and the extra charges.
Camping spots near Morrill, Maine benefit from the area's moderate maritime climate, with summer temperatures averaging 70-78°F during day and 55-60°F at night. The rolling hills of Waldo County create varied camping terrain, with elevations ranging from sea level to 400 feet. Most campgrounds in this region sit within 20 miles of Morrill, making day trips convenient between camping locations.
Hiking at Camden Hills: Camden Hills State Park Campground offers multiple trails directly from campsites. "The camp sites are large and well spaced apart. Definitely check out the trails along the ocean," notes Jacki B., who particularly recommends the ocean-view trails.
Kayaking on Sennebec Lake: Launch directly from waterfront sites at Sennebec Lake Campground. "We love the proximity to the lake with easy access for kayaking and swimming," explains camper Pam A., who visits annually with her family.
Exploring Belfast: Several campgrounds provide access to Belfast's attractions. "The campground is centrally located, just at the edge of downtown Camden. It provides a great home base for hiking, biking, kayaking and exploring the Camden/Rockland area," mentions Heather C. about Camden Hills State Park Campground.
Fishing opportunities: Multiple lakes offer fishing within 15 minutes of Morrill. "Great fishing and boating! There's quite a few hiking trails located in the town around the campground," reports Becky T. about fishing opportunities near Megunticook Campground.
Ocean access: Searsport Shores Ocean Campground offers direct ocean frontage. "At low tide you can do fun rock designs on the shore, they offer lobster bake at the ocean for $60 pop with some sides. The community firepit is nice," explains Stacy M. about the waterfront activities.
Morning views: Sunrise watching ranks highly among camper favorites. "The ocean overlook is beautiful in the morning sunrise," notes Jess Y. about Megunticook Campground, while another camper describes, "Picnic tables and several chairs and benches to sit and watch the ocean scenery - porpoises and seals and the sunrise was amazing!"
Clean facilities: Most campgrounds maintain well-kept bathrooms and showers. "The bathhouse was very clean and there are both outdoor and indoor showers; both looked nice," reports Lee D. about shower options at Megunticook Campground, while Jacki B. notes, "Bathrooms were clean" at Camden Hills State Park.
Community atmosphere: Several campgrounds host regular social events. "The park organizes a lot of group activities including pot lucks, lobster shore dinners, BBQ feast, and cold beverages offered during Friday Happy Hours," explains a camper about Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort. Some campgrounds offer weekly music nights or craft sessions.
Reservation requirements: Many campgrounds require advance booking for peak season. "I would advise making reservations if you want to stay over a weekend or during the summer season as this park really fills up," notes Nancy W. about Camden Hills State Park Campground.
Road noise considerations: Some campgrounds are affected by nearby traffic. "The campground is located too close to the road and, with the exception of sites 84-87 and cabins 8-10, you will hear road noise in your site," warns Lee D. about Megunticook Campground.
Site variations: Not all sites within a campground offer equal experiences. At Continuous Harmony Farm, "The sites are not marked at all and there did not seem to be a way to check in. We were joined by two other groups who camped close by, so not great for a private experience," explains Adam B.
Extra fees: Watch for additional costs beyond basic site fees. "I thought $50 for a tent site was a little steep but it was all the potential extra fees that irked me: $30 site lock to ensure you get the site you want, $4 weather guarantee, $7.95 for WiFi, $10 to use the dump station," notes one camper about their experience.
Pool access: Some campgrounds offer swimming pools for kids. "The pool was not open at the time we visited," notes Cheryl R. about Megunticook Campground's amenities, which typically operate during summer months only.
Playground options: Several campgrounds provide play areas. "There is a day park for swimming with a life guard and an impressive playground for little ones," reports Anna W. about Lake St. George State Park Campground.
Pet policies: Most campgrounds welcome pets but have specific rules. "We are pop-up campers. We had plenty of room for our camper. Dog friendly. Bathrooms were very clean," explains Jimmy M. about Camden Hills State Park, though some restrict pets to designated areas or limit numbers.
Kid-friendly activities: Look for campgrounds with organized events. "The gardens, grounds and bathroom/laundry amenities that are offered are kept in beautiful clean condition. The rec room is a large but cozy place to hang out if/when it rains, with a fireplace and cozy couches," describes April W. about spaces for children during inclement weather.
Site sizes: Most campgrounds can accommodate medium-sized RVs. "Although the park accommodates larger RV's, there are a limited number of sites for those over 35 feet and the gravel roads are easy to navigate in a big rig," explains Nancy W. regarding Camden Hills State Park Campground.
Hookup availability: Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort offers full service sites. "All sites have electric (50 or 30 amp), water, cable and wifi. The park recently added sewer to all sites and a dump station is onsite," notes a camper about the comprehensive hookups available.
Leveling needs: Some campgrounds offer naturally level sites. "Our large back-in site was set in an open sunny area but most of the sites are nicely tucked into the woods with plenty of space between them," observes a Camden Hills camper about site conditions.
Signal strength: Cell and wifi coverage varies significantly. "Our antenna found one major network and a few PBS stations. The Verizon signal on our phone and wifi on our hotspot were strong. The park does have free wifi at most campsites and the signal was very strong," notes an RVer about connectivity options at Camden Hills.
