Sun Outdoors New Orleans North Shore

Lots of amenities but very busy on weekends.

This park typifies “RV Resort” with multiple swimming pools(with swim up bars), café, lazy river, pool cabanas, putt putt golf, pickelball/basketball courts, a fitness center, game room, club house, amphitheater(with live entertainment), playground, off-leash dog park, gift shop, water craft rental, golf cart rental, and a water-based obstacle course(think Ninja Warrior type course). Be aware, some of these amenities have costs associated with them. For example, a cabana by the pool costs $85/day and water attractions are $25/day! We stayed the month of March and the park was about half full during the week with seasonal campers but filled to capacity over the weekends.

All sites are 30/50 amp, full hook-up, with wifi and cable. There are pull-thru and back-in sites. Sites, roads, and patios are paved and level and come with a picnic table and fire pit. There are two and three-rig “buddy sites” which are great for camping with friends. Roads are wide and sites are angled for easy in and out. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. There are two site types - “standard” and“premium” with the difference being the length of the patio and a $10/night higher price tag. Weekly, monthly, and seasonal rates are available and heavily discounted and there are discounts for Good Sam, senior citizen, and military. Our monthly rate reduced the nightly cost from $60 to $22.

Reunion Lake has very easy and quick access to I-12 between Baton Rouge and Covington. New Orleans is about an hour’s drive away but the smaller towns of Ponchatoula and Hammond are ten minutes away. There is a Sonic and Exxon just outside the gate with walking distance and a grocery store is about three miles away.

Although this is a nice park with lots of amenities this was not really a good fit for us and is crazy with kids on the weekends. We were a little miffed that we were assigned a campsite that management knew did not have working cable. As I was fiddling with the cable(for a couple of hours) other campers came by to tell us that cable had not worked in that site for a long time and management knew that. We were glad the manager agreed to move(and upgrade us to a premium site) but it two days after we checked in and were all set up. Our fire pit(and many others in the park) had trash in it. We never saw anyone clean out fire pits the entire month we were there. The weekend campers near us turned out to be pretty obnoxious with loud karaoke and radios playing all day even when they were not outside. On their behalf, they did turn the music down by quiet hours but it was so loud during the day that we didn’t want to sit outside. There were pieces of trash scattered throughout the park that never got picked up even as we watched staff drive by them every day. Small children were left unsupervised in the lazy river and did not abide by the parks rule to remain in tubes. Children were unsupervised on the basketball/pickleball courts and used the golf putter to hit rocks in the horseshoe pits. One bathhouse we went in was in need of some serious cleaning.

This park has a lot of great amenities if that is what you are looking for. It fills up with weekend campers with lots of kids and barking dogs on weekends so there is not much peace and quiet. While it was a decent place to stay during the week, it got pretty crazy on the weekends.

    Lakeside RV Park

    Lakeside RV

We have stayed here almost two weeks while downsizing to a smaller home. This place is very well maintained, and the pool and playground areas are in excellent condition. We did not use the showers/ bathrooms but the laundry area was in clean and machines seemed new. The grounds were well manicured, there is a large pond/small lake with a walking path around half of it. There are a few pull through site but the back-Ins have the better views. They have 30 & 50 amp, water and sewer connections. Fairly level and long concrete pads. They are strict about the 5mph speed limit and thankfully so.

Sun Outdoors New Orleans North Shore

Great for RV park. A little pricey.

The park is very nice with numerous amenities. Kids really enjoyed the lazy river, miniature golf, and beach volleyball. Not much shade in the campsites and they are pretty close together. Food was inexpensive. I enjoyed walking and sitting along the lake in the mornings. The noise from the interstate was a small detraction. Bathrooms could have used a little more attention. Unfortunately, Hurricane Ida destroyed the floating obstacle course which was the attraction my son was most eager to try. The pools were a little cool during the day for my blood since the overnight lows were in the upper 50s. Didn't seem to bother the kids.

Stayed in campsite 82 which had a nice grass area on the passenger(door/awning) side of our RV. Concrete parking with patio area, picnic table and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, water, sewer, and cable TV hookups. The free WiFi throughout the park was adequate for checking emails, surfing the web, etc.(1.5 Mbps down, 0.5 Mbps up). Full signal strength from AT&T(tower nearby). There is an Exxon gas station and Sonic just outside the entrance. This is a place I will take the kids 1-2 per year since its just over an hour from our house and we had a lot of fun. We camped at Reunion Lake RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

    Farr Park RV Camground

One of the better RV parks in BR Area

One of the better RV parks in the BR area (there's not many close to town).  Has electric and water hookups, but no sewer hookup.  The Mississippi River is nearby. There is a paved bike path on top of the river levee that you can ride all the way to downtown Baton Rouge.  It is only 3 miles from LSU campus.  Some people stay here to tailgate for LSU football games.

Farr Park is part of the Baton Rouge Parks and Recreation system.  It is also an equestrian (horse) center.  There are stables and riding arenas near the campground.

There is a dump station available.  The dump station connection for your sewer hose is at a 45 degree angle and a bit above ground level.  This creates sags in your hose.  Also, there is no way to secure or screw in your connection to the sump station.  The station does have a concrete pad and non-potable water.  You can use the dump station for free if you are a camper.  Non-campers can pay a $10 fee to dump.

    Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

    Beautiful Park. Enjoyed the stay.

Bogue Chitto State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and peaceful. We had a great weekend stay, and the weather was perfect. Take the time to explore the beach on the river. We really enjoyed hiking(it has many trails) and the beach. I enjoyed sitting along the lake in the mornings. My son really enjoyed the splash pad. Bathrooms were clean. Park has a great disc golf course, mountain bike trails, and horse trails.  Campground has Trick or Treating every Saturday in October at 6pm.  Many campers decorate their sites (we did).

Stayed in Bottomlands campsite Bottomlands, site 104. No shade. Evening sun shines under awning. Site 103 has better water view and awning faces East, but no shade. Site 105 has shade in the afternoon but cant see water from awning side. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table, BBQ pit, and fire ring. 15A/30A (dont remember if it had 50A) and water; no sewer hookups. Not much shade in the campsite. The site is located on the lake, but the woods block most of the view. Nearest neighbor was at least 20-30 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt. AT&T had poor service, but Verizon was good. No WiFi. We camped in a Travel Trailer.

Would definitely stay here again (but not in site 104) and bring kayaks next time. The park has a put in and take out landings on the river. We camped at Bogue Chitto State park in a Travel Trailer.

    Farr Park RV Camground

    Spacious with Horse Views

This campground is so romantic with coral sunsets and country vibes. Spots are spacious and not crowded so you can spread out. Great paths for walking. Its hot but the bugs are not overwhelming. Close to the college and downtown. Perfect views of the horses I could watch them all day. 30/50 amp electric, water, pull through sites. No sewage but there is a dump station to empty on way out.  Bathrooms have restrooms and showers available. 8/10.

    Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

Quiet Getaway with Great Activities and Amenities

We stayed at spot 31. Near the restrooms but not much through traffic. Dumpster was right next to the bathrooms. Not a lot of street lights throughout the campground made things nice and quiet at night. Spots were gravel and needed a lot of leveling front to back. The site had a very nice deck with a picnic table. The site had full hookups for water, electricity, and sewage. The site had great Verizon and T-mobile cell service, around 50-80 mbps for each. The hiking trails were very nice with lots of shorts and long options. The bike trails were also nice with a lot of different difficulty options to try, you can also rent bikes if needed. Overall the campground was clean, very quiet, very spacious, and is a perfect weekend getaway with fun activities. We camped at Bogue Chitto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Baton Rouge KOA

Exactly what you need when visiting Baton Rouge!

We have stayed here for 4 consecutive years for the Louisiana Marathon weekend in January and couldn’t ask for a better home base for one of our favorite race weekends.

They offer regular pull thru spots with both 30 and 50 amp full hook ups and deluxe with a fire ring and patio space. The campground and bath house are kept clean and there is even a dog park for your furry camping friends.

    Farr Park RV Camground

    Great location

Stayed Thu-Sun on an LSU football game weekend. Didn’t see anyone at the office- but spaces are well marked for finding the reserved spot. We were in B6- so no real shade- in the late afternoon the only decent shade is on row E. We had good cell signal and were able to stream.

When we arrived there were very few campers- but the park got a lot more visitors by late Friday. It was still pretty quiet throughout the stay. Many of the “campers” were large class A or Fifth wheels, but there were a few smaller units like ours (17 ft. TT). The spaces are grass which was obviously recently mowed and the driveway is white gravel/rock. We used the back trail to get to the levee to ride our e bikes and went on about a 30 mile ride south past L’Auberge, and then we went on another 10 mile ride north toward the capital. The bike paths are in good condition and there are a good number of walkers/runners/bicyclists/and scooters using the paths. I checked out the bath house and it was clean and well maintained. There were 4 (ladies) showers and 3 stalls. There are multiple spaces for campers to dump, although we needed to use the front spots due to height. We decided to get an early start on Sunday morning and were at the dump station before 8- only one other unit arrived when we were finishing up- there wasn’t a line to wait in for us. We will definitely return to Farr for another game weekend. We really enjoyed our stay.

Guide to Pride

Camping options around Pride, Louisiana include several motorhome-friendly facilities within 30 miles of town. The area sits at approximately 125 feet above sea level in East Baton Rouge Parish, with mild winters and humid summers that average 92°F in July. Camping in this region offers access to both urban amenities and rural landscapes, with most campgrounds positioned along major highways for convenient travel.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Lakeside RV Park in Livingston, campers can fish in the property's large lake. "There is a large pond/small lake with a walking path around half of it," noted one visitor who appreciated the outdoor recreation options available on-site.

Bike riding: The Mississippi River levee near Farr Park RV Campground provides extensive paved pathways for cycling. "Bike path trailhead is there, with extensive pathways on the levee," explains one reviewer who found it convenient for exploring Baton Rouge. Another camper mentioned, "There is a paved bike path on top of the river levee that you can ride all the way to downtown Baton Rouge."

Swimming and water recreation: Reunion Lake RV Resort (now Sun Outdoors New Orleans North Shore) offers multiple swimming pools and water features. "We made an impromptu one night stop here and it was totally worth it! Our kids loved the lazy river," shared one family. The resort also features "multiple swimming pools with swim up bars, lazy river, pool cabanas," according to another reviewer.

What campers like

Concrete pads: Many campers appreciate the level, concrete sites at Natalabany Creek Campground and RV Park in Amite. "Concrete pad, lots of grass, large lots. It's quiet and everyone is nice," reported one satisfied visitor. This feature makes setup easier and provides stability regardless of weather conditions.

Covered amenities: Families value the shaded recreational areas at Lakeside RV Park. "Love the amenities they provided we loved the playground that was covered which allowed us to play with our kids in the heat of the day and even with rain," explained one parent. Another reviewer noted, "They added a covered playground for kids. I mean covered with a very large steel structure."

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention the well-maintained bathrooms and laundry facilities. "Bathrooms were well maintained, clean. Little store had essentials and they weren't overpriced," said one Lakeside RV Park guest. At Farr Park, a visitor checked out the bath house and found "it was clean and well maintained. There were 4 (ladies) showers and 3 stalls."

What you should know

Weekday vs. weekend crowds: Expect significant differences in occupancy and noise levels depending on when you visit. At Fireside RV Resort, campers noted, "Very new and nice but packed a ton of sites into a little area. Lazy river and pool are nice as well but extremely crowded." Another review of Reunion Lake stated, "We stayed the month of March and the park was about half full during the week with seasonal campers but filled to capacity over the weekends."

Site spacing concerns: Some RV parks near Pride have tight spacing between sites. "Sites are close, no trees or wildlife, you can kayak on the lake but it's expensive," mentioned one Reunion Lake visitor. At Fireside, someone noted that "some sites are a little too close together while others have plenty of green space."

Dump station configurations: Different campgrounds have varying dump station setups that can impact convenience. At Farr Park, a reviewer explained, "The dump station connection for your sewer hose is at a 45 degree angle and a bit above ground level. This creates sags in your hose. Also, there is no way to secure or screw in your connection to the sump station."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Shelby J's RV Park and nearby campgrounds offer kid-friendly amenities. Natalabany Creek Campground "has lots of things to keep the kiddo's occupied. There is a HUGE pond for catch and release fish (no swimming or boating). There is an arcade room, swimming pool, putt putt golf, and a really great creek behind the cabins."

Swimming options: Look for campgrounds with pools for summer relief. At Fireside RV Resort, "pools and lazy river was about the only entertainment but for adults it was fine!" Lakeside RV Park also features "a very clean well equipped pool on site," according to visitors.

Shade considerations: Some RV parks near Pride offer better shade than others. One Fireside RV Resort camper mentioned, "We booked last min so didn't get to really pick our site. We were up in the front and didn't really have any trees around that gave any kind of shade!" Consider requesting shaded sites when possible, especially during summer months.

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Bring adequate leveling equipment as many sites require adjustment. While concrete pads are available at some parks, others have less even surfaces. Lakeside RV Park provides "fairly level and long concrete pads," which makes setup easier.

Seasonal rate options: Longer stays can significantly reduce nightly costs at rv parks near Pride, Louisiana. At Reunion Lake, "Weekly, monthly, and seasonal rates are available and heavily discounted and there are discounts for Good Sam, senior citizen, and military. Our monthly rate reduced the nightly cost from $60 to $22."

Wi-Fi reliability: Internet access varies widely between campgrounds. One Lakeside RV Park visitor noted, "Wi-Fi is nonexistent but the antenna gets a few channels so it balances out." Consider bringing your own hotspot if connectivity is important during your stay.
