      Lakeview Park

      PRETTY, BUT NOISY

Don't get me wrong, I am not antisocial, but when I go camping I really want the natural quiet of nature. It was pretty busy, with many people gathered and partying. Kids driving crazy on golf carts. Otherwise, the property is pretty. The sites are easily accessible (our camper is approximately 30 ft). The showers were not available d/t covid 19, but were there. Our site 12 was level and had full hookups. Pet friendly. Large trees. Store on site and snack shop near the beach. Very kid friendly.

      Indian Creek Recreation Area

      Great Weekend Getaway!

Indian Creek is only a couple hours away from our home, so it’s an ideal spot for a weekend getaway together! My husband and I have stayed here twice—first, at site 52 and then at site 56. We had to call the campground prior to our stay to get a gate code as they lock the gate at night, but that was simple enough and made us feel safe. During each of our stays, the campground was nearly full, so we counted ourselves lucky with the sites we had reserved.

We have a 21’ travel trailer and barely fit it and our Toyota Tundra in site 52. The lake was visible when standing inside the camper (driver side) but not from our chairs by the fire. There was a pretty steep drop off from the concrete pad to the ground level forcing us to put our outdoor rug on the ground. We appreciated the shade, two handy trees for our hammock, the ducks on the lake, and the sound of the wind blowing through the tall grass. We had neighbors one night in site 54 which is very close, but they kept to themselves so we didn’t feel encroached upon. Site 52 was also a little low, so it was a bit soggy from rains that fell the week before we had arrived.

After exploring the campground on this first trip, we decided that site 56 would be perfect for us. We felt like “kings of the mountain” during our second stay at Indian Creek as we were at the top of a hill. Site 56 had a HUGE backyard leading down to the lake. The view from our chairs by the fire and the picnic table were excellent. There were lots of trees to hang our hammock from, too.

Other sites that we found appealing were 13, 16, 45, 57, 95, 99, and 100. We really prefer a nice view, separation from neighboring sites, and privacy when selecting a site, so for us 56 was ideal. All sites had concrete pads, picnic tables, and fire rings but no lantern posts. The first loop of the campground (Susan’s Loop) seemed much quieter than the others (perhaps because it was further from the playground and little beach area). The beach areas seem really nice for camping during warmer weather. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking the trail and saw lots of deer tracks, ducks, and squirrels. There were many families camping with children, but the campground has a nice, quiet vibe that we really enjoyed. There is a Dollar General just a few minutes away as well as a well-appointed grocery store should you need any last minute items. We cannot wait to visit Indian Creek again!

      Paragon Casino Resort

Nice campground and convenient to the Paragon Casino

This campground has large paved pull through sites with full hookups (electricity, water, and sewage). There are picnic tables, a playground, a swimming pool, a clubhouse and laundry facilities. There is also a camp store with RV essentials with name brands like Camco and they are reasonably priced. The casino has a shuttle service to take you back and forth to the casino and it runs all day and most of the night. The casino itself has a movie theater, spa, entertainment venues, an arcade for families, restaurants and a coffeehouse. My boys loved playing the basketball game in the arcade. The most amazing thing about the casino (since I am not a gambler) is their lobby. It has live alligators, fish and turtles in there. There’s also a boardwalk that connects the casino, campground and Tunica Indian museum and powwow ceremonial grounds and is also great for walking for exercise. They also have little cabins and chalets for rent at the back of the campground. They also accept Passport America.

      Lotus Camp

      Tree roots and trails

Isnide the Kisatchie National Forest, Kisatchie District Lotus campground offers water, flush toilets and easy access to the Sandstone Trail. Each campsite has a fire ring, picnic table and lots of tree roots. This campground is designated for off road vehicle campers as opposed to horse campers. A bit scary when it started raining and we were under those big beautiful trees, but we made it through. Again, the campgrounds in this area are so well marked and easy to find. There is a $3 per night fee to camp here and a $5 trail use fee.

      L'Acadie Inn & RV Park

Not much too it, but good location for Cajun Mardi Gras

We decided last minute to check out Cajun Mardi Gras and L'acadie had a spot open so we took it.  Everyone there was perfectly nice and it was a great location to get downtown Eunice to watch the festivities.  However, there really isn't much to this park.  You are basically parking in a field behind the hotel office.  There is no bathroom/shower facility either - FYI!  However, we did love checking out Cajun Mardi Gras.  It was seriously unlike anything we had ever seen!!

North Campground — Chicot State Park

Great camping in the heart of La

We stopped at this campground for one night on our way home. Some of the sites are close together, but we called and they put us in a spot that was very spacious. There were almost no other campers there so it helps to go in the middle of the week. The staff was very friendly and they had a great hiking path and playground for our 5 year old. I biked most of the paved roads in the state park and was able to go 13 miles without doubling anywhere. The cabins looked great from the outside and are located right on the lake. There is a long fishing pier and boat rentals. This is definitely one we will return to. Also, it is located very close to a lot of antique shopping which my wife wouldn’t let me pass up on my way home.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Indian Creek Recreation Area provides access to a 2500-acre lake stocked with various fish species. "Gorgeous lake, so quiet and peaceful. "One of the best and longest loop trails in the state!" reports a camper at Chicot State Park, which is located about 40 minutes from Glenmora and provides marked paths ranging from easy to moderate difficulty.

Kayaking: Several lakes in the area permit non-motorized boating. "We were able to launch our kayaks from our RV site," shares a reviewer at Chicot State Park. Rental options for kayaks exist at some locations, with hourly rates typically between $10-20.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: Primitive camping areas provide more seclusion than developed sites. "There is some privacy and separation between campsites! This is where we go when limited time is available," explains a camper about Indian Creek Recreation Area.

Clean facilities: Many lodging facilities near Glenmora maintain regular cleaning schedules. "The bathhouses were cleaned every morning and I didn't see much trash lying around," reports a visitor at Crooked Creek Recreation Area, which offers "very clean and quiet" surroundings according to another camper.

Natural scenery: The forested setting creates an appealing backdrop. "Have camped here primitively on a quiet small peninsular and loved it, stayed away from the beaches but they look clean and well kept," shares one reviewer about rustic accommodations near Glenmora.

    What you should know

Seasonal crowd fluctuations: Summer months bring more visitors, especially families with children. "I would like to start by saying this is a campground that is designed for young families, from the multiple sandy beach areas to the playgrounds, there was lot for my elementary age children to do," notes one visitor about Bundick Lake Retreat and RV Park.

Reservation requirements: Most cabin rentals require advance booking. Availability varies by season, with some properties accepting reservations up to several months in advance while others have shorter windows.

Noise considerations: Highway and train sounds can affect some camping locations. "The traffic and train was quite loud," reports a camper at Cajun Campground, though many visitors still find the overall experience enjoyable.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Some cabin rental facilities include playgrounds and beaches. "This is a campground that is designed for young families, from the multiple sandy beach areas to the playgrounds, there was lot for my elementary age children to do," explains a visitor at Indian Creek Recreation Area.

Structured activities: Certain locations organize family-oriented events. "We had a church retreat here and it was fantastic... Places for RV's to hook up and has cabins/motel rooms available and bunk house as well," shares a guest at Lakeview Park, which also offers "a swimming pond with inflatables, playground, store, and a dance/concert barn with live music."

Safety considerations: Wildlife awareness is important when staying in cabin accommodations. "We were visited by raccoons one night, but they were easily & quickly scared away. Campers should definitely be aware & cautious of wildlife in the area," advises a visitor about primitive camping options.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose cabin rental locations based on specific needs and preferences. "We felt like 'kings of the mountain' during our second stay at Indian Creek as we were at the top of a hill. Site 56 had a HUGE backyard leading down to the lake. The view from our chairs by the fire and the picnic table were excellent," shares one experienced camper at Red Shoes RV Park & Chalets.

Utility connections: Verify what hookups each cabin provides. "Concrete level sites with patio and picnic table. Full hookups with cable TV. Lodge and pool. Casino shuttle," notes a visitor about the amenities at Red Shoes RV Park & Chalets near Glenmora.

Off-peak advantages: Consider weekday stays to avoid crowds when booking cabins. "This campground has just reopened Tuesday, after being closed due to 'the virus'. Typically there's no problem getting a campsite during the week, but let me tell you, it's full here now!"
