Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Adams, KY

Very friendly people and my dog loved the dog park.

Got there in April and basically no one was there which was awesome. Although we did lose our long haired cat named Trouble, she has her collar and chip but there were dogs around and she never came back. Attached is a picture. Other than the weather and losing Trouble it was great.

This drive in camp site is a pay only and it’s best to call a couple weeks before your trip to reserve you spot! You can tent camp, pop up, or set up your pull behind. Twin Knobs is very clean and spacious campsites and most are on the water! This campground has basketball courts, a beach area, restrooms and more. Pet friendly but must stay on a leash.

A lot of their sites have full hook up but not all of them. Read the details of the sites when booking. Some of the sites have really steep grades and aren’t big rig friendly.

Check in was a breeze had out car tags on our post.

They do have a full-time camp host on site.

I didn’t use the shower 🚿 house but they do have a couple on the grounds.

They have a putt putt course but bring your own putter and ball.

There is Verizon service but it’s spotty.

They do have WiFi but it’s very slow and not secure.

Place is very pet friendly. The people we have met here are great.

Sites are wide but really close together.

Pit toilet, running water, RV hookups. The Camp Host Walt is super nice, ask him about his musician days and he might even let you borrow an old CD of his! Festus the cat was very welcoming too.

Pros: entrance/check-in area is very cute and welcoming, staff is extremely nice and accommodating. Cons: dirty, dumpsters were overflowing and the whole place smelled like a dump station, cats wandering around, our pull-thru site was unlevel and a mud pit, horrible road noise. Would never stay here again.

Nice little place. Nearby town is absolutely not dog friendly. No dogs allowed in many of the parks.

Great hosts but make sure in your reservation to specify grill or fireplace.

Haven't been there yet.Campground wasn't in any of the apps. Just called and made reservations for 3 months. Very nice on the phone. No problem for us with 36' fifth wheel and a dog.

KOA staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were able to stay extra days with out any problems. It was A practice run for us since we just started camping . For our first adventure every thing worked out fine. The campground has miniature golf , A playground, A fenced area for dogs a pond and A swimming pool.

This little jewel is an actual island surrounded by the Little Sandy River in Greenup, KY.  We fished al day and night.  Caught a bunch of fish and had a catfish fry.  The mountain views are awesome and for once it wasn't another RV parking lot.  We go with our grandson and dogs every weekend!

Loved this place so much we stayed a few nights on our trek cross country. We stayed in spot 17 which had its own access to a smaller creek. You can take a short walk up the small creek to get to Clear creek. Spots deep enough for swimming. Our dogs loved this place. Would recommend if you’re looking for a cheap night with few amenities 😊

Stayed here for 2 nights. Scarlet Oak campground. Drove and checked out the other two campgrounds which were also nice. Some sites are really small and some are right along the road. Not crowded at all during our visit. Some sites are sloped from slight to more severe. We did have to take our camper off our truck (truck camper) in order to get level. Our site had a large “yard” and trees. All great for our two big dogs. Site had w/e.

This place is new and under great ownership. Justin took the evening call, guided us in then got us quickly settled and told us “ the just right “ amount of info on the campsite and area. The tent sites are very cool. They have a large flat grassy area with lots of sites right beside the river. The RV sites are new, drive through and flat , with electric , and water. There something cool to be facing the cornfield and being in unique open space. Our dog loved it !

I grew up going here while in Boy Scouts. The caves are free to explore on your own. There are a few that you aren't permitted to enter. There is a water cave where you have to wade trough chest deep water to get through it. There are the crawl caves where you are mainly on your knees and belly the entire time. The bat caves where there are hundreds of bats. Hot dog cave where you have to climb up a tree trunk to get into it. The camping is good. There is a State park general store that sales camping essentials if needed. On wknds they play movies on the side of one of the cave walls. This place is an awesome place to take young teenagers. they will have the time of their lives exploring caves.

A lovely campground that is well-maintained and very peaceful. We opted for a site with electricity and it had a nice level pad for our trailer and truck, a fire ring, a picnic table and post for our lantern. The campground itself is quite large, taking up the whole peninsula, there are not many public areas to access the beach for swimming, but there are a few moderate to easy hiking trails and during our visit other than ice and firewood there was nothing available as the store was closed. We were at our campsite at the beginning of May, and I will say be very careful as I pulled more ticks off of myself and my dog than I ever have in my life, so be sure to triple check.

We enjoyed our stay at Huntington/Fox Fire KOA! This is a holiday KOA that offers more amenities for vacationers. It has very close proximity to I-64 in West Virginia, and you can hear the traffic pretty clearly.

The staff is wonderful, they obviously care very much about their jobs and we enjoyed talking to them. They keep the property very clean which is saying a lot because it’s a very busy park. Each day we watched the park nearly empty and by sundown it was mostly full again. On the weekends it was full to capacity, and it’s occupants were out enjoying their time!

There is: great cellular for TMobile and AT&T, laundry, dog walk area, storage, cabins, a store, a swimming pond, small beach area, and some sites have fire pits. The picnic tables were pretty dated.

The hookups are a little strange. You share pedestals in many of the sites. And the arrangement is a little strange but it works.

We were stopping here on our way to another KOA. At the check in area I noticed that the park looked nice. When we arrived at our site (we were escorted), the escort left and my wife noticed trash in the fire pit. I called the office, told them there was a lot of garbage at our site including a lot of cigarette butts. A young man came and cleaned up the trash in and around the fire pit and he said he was sorry about it not being clean. There were also piles of wet dog food. There is a terrible sewer smell that continues to float over to our site. There were many complaints of this on the KOA site. The highway is close and very noisy. (See video) Not worth the money to stay here. It might be worth $10 for an overnight stop, we didn’t even hook up electric or water. Ran fans, lights and water pump off of solar. Not at all what I expect from a KOA.

Nice caves & trails, but the campground is not best. Kentucky's sharing power poles make finding a level site with reachable power even tougher. Weekends are crazy crowded. Staff is friendly. Would never attempt to stay here without a reservaton.

We actually camped at Boat Gunnel which is a part of Twin Knobs Campground. We love this campground because it is a private area with 4 RV hookups and approximately 10 tent sites. You rent the entire place for $125 or $130 a night. It is close to the water. We left our boats down on the bank. You have a "private" restroom and shower house. Occasionally you will get a hiker or someone coming through the trails that will use it. The only reason that it didn't score perfect is that the showers need some attention. There was mud along side the blacktop path that led down to the fire pit that was full of mosquito larvae and smelled. Easy fix, but had to keep the kids and dogs away from it constantly. My sister took a nasty fall on the trail down to the waters edge and that would be an easy fix to make that trail a little smoother. I know we are camping, but with the price, it is actually glamping. We like this place because it is easy for my aging parents to come down and visit. Great, large shelter also.
