    Greenbo Lake State Resort Park

    It’s pretty nice

A lot of their sites have full hook up but not all of them. Read the details of the sites when booking. Some of the sites have really steep grades and aren’t big rig friendly.

Check in was a breeze had out car tags on our post.

They do have a full-time camp host on site.

I didn’t use the shower 🚿 house but they do have a couple on the grounds.

They have a putt putt course but bring your own putter and ball.

There is Verizon service but it’s spotty.

They do have WiFi but it’s very slow and not secure.

Place is very pet friendly. The people we have met here are great.

Sites are wide but really close together.

    Paintsville Lake State Park Campground

Nice lake, rec area and campground all nestled together

Spent the night here passing through. I did make a reservation just in case but there were a couple sites open. Nice, small campground, most sites are back in but there are a few pull through sites. The staff were friendly and the campground seems maintained fairly well. No wifi and Verizon is touchy. Out in the recreation area I had one bar and LTE though the data seemed pretty good. My site was right at the beginning of the campground. Inside my camper I could only get a signal if I put my phone in the window. The signal was good enough to stream and FaceTime but if I took it out of the window I’d lose signal.

The sites are nice and not on top of each other. They are a nice finer type gravel and mostly level. Big patio area with a picnic table and fire pit. Some of the sites at the front will give you a decent view of the lake, site 18 being the best I believe, I was in site 20.

It’s open year round according to the website. Not sure how big rig friendly it is and I couldn’t find any information on the website, I’d call first. I don’t recall seeing any 5th wheel or motor homes back there.

Overall, very nice campground and I would visit again. There is an 1850’s mountain house in the park just prior to the entrance to the campground/recreation area. There is a fee and you’ll have to check the hours. I forgot to take a picture but the song on the gift shop door said certain days by appointment only and I think Friday thru Sunday they were open for a period of time.

    Wildcat Camping and Fishing

    Very Nice Place

We have been here for a little over a month now. Nice level gravel sites with grass around them. Full hookups 30/50A at each site. Wifi. Could accommodate at least 40+ foot 5th wheels. There is a paylake with small shelter areas, playground, horseshoe pit, game room, community gathering area, store with snacks, drinks, tackle and other items. There are restrooms, but no showers or laundry. Beautiful area. About 11 miles to Paintsville, which has all the stores you'd need. Some closer convenience stores. Johnny and Regina, the owners, couldn't be any nicer. Very good monthly rates. Can receive mail and packages.

One-Night Adventure: Our Shakedown Trip in the New Travel Trailer

Campsite Review for Site 6 – Gateway to Wayne National Forest

Our recent camping trip at this campground was an excellent way to immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of Wayne National Forest. The serene forest setting provided a perfect backdrop for a relaxing outdoor adventure, with the campground offering all the basics needed for a comfortable stay.

We stayed at Site 6 in our travel trailer, enjoying the ease of a pull-through site. Although the water and electric hookups are on the opposite side unless you drive through the loop the wrong way, this setup has an unexpected benefit—it faces directly toward the woods. This orientation allowed us to savor the tranquility of the forest, adding a layer of privacy and a more intimate connection with nature.

While the sites are decently sized, they are closely positioned with minimal separation, which might limit privacy in other areas. However, the majestic surroundings of Wayne National Forest more than make up for this. The proximity to hiking trails, wildlife sightings, and the peaceful ambiance of the trees create an immersive experience that’s hard to beat.

All in all, this campground is a fantastic base for exploring Wayne National Forest. The combination of basic amenities, convenient access, and the enchanting forest environment makes it a great spot for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Lake View Campground — Beech Fork State Park

    Beautiful and secluded

We visited in the end of October 2021. The colors and the views were spectacular. The drive into the park was very curvy mountain back roads. The site included a fire pit with grill and a picnic table. There was a fair amount of space between sites. Approximately 50-75 feet apart. The bath house was nice but could use a little refreshening. There are many activities including a shooting range, frisbee golf course, swimming pool, playground just to name a few. With Verizon as our service provider no cell signal was available at the park. Overall, we give 3 stars. Minus one star for no cell service and minus another star due to maintenance. Overall, very nice park.

    Sandy Springs Campground

Amazing experience at Sandy Springs Campground

Sandy Springs Campground is this awesome little gem on the Ohio River. It is a small family owned and family oriented Campground with some amazing views of the foothills of Ohio and Kentucky. The Campground is super clean and well maintained. They have full hookups and 30/50 Amp service. There are pull through sites and river front sites. They have several rental options and the coolest house boat over looking the river with a wrap around porch. They have really nice shower and laundry facilities. There is a pretty cool camp store there too. The best part is the friendly people and atmosphere. The owners work very hard here. They take very good care of the guests and there are always plenty of activities on the weekends and holidays. The prices are definitely affordable and can't be beat anywhere I have stayed before. Couldn't recommend a better place to stay on your next camping adventure.

Ohio River Campground - Hidden Gem

This is a peaceful and quiet campground located along the Ohio River. All sites have 50 amp and water hook ups. Most have fire rings and picnic tables. It is amazing to watch the river barges go by and they also have fishing available. Shower house is clean and warm!!

    Grayson Lake State Park Campground

    Below average

This is a small campground situated next to a golf course. There are several nice sites but others are not ideal. Our site (13) was ok, other than the scattered broken glass and trash. The main issue was lack of oversight from staff. The site next to us was completely packed with their fifth wheel, a large tent, pop up canopy, four vehicles, a kayak trailer, and a boat that was in the corner of our site. They did not leash their dogs and did not pick up after them. We didn’t complain about them encroaching on our site but felt that the campground should enforce their own rules. Another site nearby setup a construction light at night that lit up the entire campground like a stadium and stayed on late into the night. Basically, campers are left to do as they please regardless of whether it is inconsiderate of other campers. The positive is the location is only a few minutes from the boat ramp for the most popular kayaking spot.

Four Coves Campground — Beech Fork State Park

    Lots of good sites

Not far from home, and good choices of type of sites. Biggest negative is no wifi or cell service. But quiet, family friendly, and some sites away from activities to chill out at too.

RV sites near Ashland, Kentucky provide diverse camping options across reclaimed mining land, riverside settings, and wooded state parks. Campgrounds in this region of eastern Kentucky and nearby Ohio and West Virginia serve as convenient bases for exploring Daniel Boone National Forest and the Ohio River Valley. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-90°F with high humidity, while spring and fall offer more moderate conditions for outdoor activities.

What to do

Fishing adventures: At Little Bear Island Campground, campers enjoy direct access to the Little Sandy River. "This little jewel is an actual island surrounded by the Little Sandy River in Greenup, KY. We fished all day and night. Caught a bunch of fish and had a catfish fry," notes one camper.

Cave exploration: The extensive cave systems at Carter Caves State Resort Park Campground offer ranger-guided tours from April through October. "The park has a lot to do, not just the caves. There's tons of waterfalls off the trails, and other things to see. The caves are great to explore as well," shares a visitor who recommends taking the ranger-guided tours for educational value.

Water recreation: RV campers at Oasis Point RV Resort have access to a man-made lake with multiple activities. "They have a large pond that has a nice beach, a huge slide and a zip line. They have kayaks, paddle boards and floats first come first serve," explains one reviewer who found the amenities particularly appealing for families.

What campers like

Secluded forest settings: At Iron Ridge - Lake Vesuvius, campers appreciate the natural surroundings. "Unlike a lot of camp grounds they're actually within the woods so you feel like you're actually part of the forest and the nature," notes one visitor who enjoyed the rustic atmosphere and access to hiking trails.

Peaceful waterfront views: Visitors to Virginia Point Campground appreciate the concrete pads and orderly layout. "Every RV site has a level concrete pad, making setup easy. Otherwise the rest of the RV area is gravel, without any trees or obstructions," mentions one camper who found the area well-patrolled and safe.

Well-maintained facilities: Campers consistently note the clean conditions at Valley Breeze RV Campground. "The folks that run this RV park are very nice and obviously have a lot of pride in their place. What you should know

Seasonal operations: Many campgrounds near Ashland operate seasonally. Carter Caves State Resort Park Campground runs from April 1 to October 31, with full amenities during this period. Iron Ridge at Lake Vesuvius operates from "early April to late November," according to their season information.

Water pressure considerations: RVers should come prepared with pressure regulators at certain campgrounds. "Beautiful place to camp. Some sites are more difficult for parking a camper than others. We stayed at site 6 which wasn't too difficult to park but the water pressure was extremely high," warns one camper at Iron Ridge.

Noise factors: At Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park, campers should expect some noise disruption. "The only real problem comes with the train tracks right here. The trains are close and do blow their whistle for crossing by the office," notes a visitor who otherwise enjoyed the campground's amenities.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water activities: Oasis Point RV Resort provides entertainment specifically designed for children. "Super nice, especially if you have kids. There is a good size lake for swimming, they have stand up paddle boards and kayaks. On the other side of the lake there is a large water slide and a zip line that both end in the water," shares a camper who found it ideal for family visits.

Educational opportunities: Creekside Cabins & RV Park offers a safe environment for children. "It's such a peaceful place to visit. Kids can play without worry," notes a visitor who appreciated the family-friendly atmosphere.

Multiple recreation options: Carter Caves State Resort Park Campground provides diverse activities beyond just camping. "Lots to do hiking, fishing, caves and caverns to explore. Campgrounds was clean," reports a visitor, though they caution that "You will need extra water hose and extension cords to get hooked up in a lot of the sites."

Tips from RVers

Hookup planning: At Carter Caves State Resort Park Campground, RVers should come prepared with extension cords and extra water hoses. "The sites that are labeled electric share one electric box for 2 campsites and can be pretty far from your pad," advises a camper who recommends checking site details carefully before booking.

Site selection strategy: When booking at Lazy Village Campground & RV Park, consider your hookup needs. "Check out the website for details on the full hookup sites. We stayed on the creek which has water and electric but they will empty your tanks for you if you stay longer than 3 nights," mentions a visitor who appreciated this service for longer stays.

Surface considerations: Many RV sites near Ashland feature gravel surfaces that can become muddy after rain. "It was too muddy, it's a dirt road. I was nervous about getting stuck, and that was without my trailer attached," warns a visitor to Little Bear Island who recommends checking weather conditions before arrival.
