Best RV Parks & Resorts near Rexford, KS

Rexford offers several small RV parks within a 30-mile radius, primarily catering to travelers along major highways. Shepherd's Staff RV Park sits in town with limited amenities, while Kansas Country Inn & RV Park in Oakley provides full hookup sites for $22-30 nightly with water, sewer, and 50-amp electric connections. "The campers are right next to each other. They are arranged in groups of four around the central utility area," noted one visitor about the Kansas Country Inn's layout. High Plains Camping near Oakley features level sites with full hookups, accommodating larger rigs in an open layout with some trees, while Whistle Stop RV and Antiques in Colby offers big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp service.

Most area RV parks operate year-round despite northwestern Kansas experiencing cold winters and hot summers. Cell coverage varies throughout the region with spotty T-Mobile reception reported at some locations. Dump stations are available at High Plains Camping and Whistle Stop, though not at all facilities. Travelers should watch for goathead burrs which can damage pet paws and bare feet around several campgrounds. Sites typically provide water pressure suitable for RVs, though electricity access at Oberlin-Sappa State Park requires contacting city hall during specific hours. During extreme heat periods, early hookup arrangements are especially important as temperatures can exceed 100°F in summer months.

    High Plains Camping

    Easy access, kind, and clean.

I stopped for just one night on my way to Colorado in a baby 13 foot travel trailer and they were kind enough to put me back in the corner so I could watch the beautiful Kansas Sunset, and away from the big rigs. Big clean, hot and free showers with good water pressure.

    Oberlin Inn & RV Park

    Small but functional

Nice little spot in beautiful NW Kansas. Conveniently located on the intersection of Hwy 83 and Hwy 36. Like everyone in this town, the owners are helpful and friendly. Full hookups available in all (6 or 7 total) RV spots. Back in only in all but end spot, with relatively level gravel pads. There is a gazebo on site with seating, and a fire pit and barbecue. It's open for all guests, including motel guests. I give 4 stars because of 2 drawbacks. Hotel WiFi is hit and miss, and the RV spots are small. We couldn't put out our awning without invading the neighbors. But good value for the money ($30/night). I recommend. Oh and do yourself a favor, go downtown and get the best pizza ever at the ReLoad Bar and Grill.

June 2021, great free camp location. Had the place almost all to ourselves. Big rig friendly. Many empty campsites right on the lake.

We left with fresh eggs collected this morning! WOW!!!! Nice laundry room...bathroom was closed due to COVID. You can hear i80 but it was really not an issue with earplugs.

Cedar Ridge Campground — Prairie Dog State Park

    Great birds, busy park

Stayed one night in a tent. Was able to find a site tucked in the trees that felt separate from the other campsites and it was perfect! Had a range of sites from primitive (picnic table and fire ring) to full hook up. Huge, busy campground but not overwhelming—there’s enough space to accommodate. Verizon works great.

    Whistle Stop RV and Antiques

It was mediocre at best… 1 night stays recommended

This was our first stop after hitting the road to start full time RVing, and we definitely needed to stop and recollect ourselves, but this is definitely a one night stop aorta place… nothing really near by but right off the highway and has all the full amenities one needs to recharge and prep for their next stop. Walmart is directly across the street within walking distance.

Just be aware of where you’re walking. I ended up with a metal staple in my foot and our pups picked up stickers in the grass

Kansas Country Inn & RV Park

    Small yet convenient

Very friendly staff. Convenient for an overnight stay. Affordable. Thankful for electricity as it was cold. Watch for the thorny burrs that get all over shoes especially if you have a dog…. Would be very painful for them. RVs very close to one another. Never accessed the bathhouse yet one was available with a combo. Good WiFi

    Atwood Lions Club Park

    Nice with FHU

Gravel, level sites. Short walk to the convenience store to get key to unlock the utilities box and pay for the site (check or cash only). Beautiful lake with walking path just over a mile around.

Guide to Rexford

Camping options near Rexford, Kansas cluster along Interstate 70 and Highway 83, with most sites experiencing northwestern Kansas's distinct seasonal extremes. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, while winter brings frigid conditions and occasional snow closures. Most rv campgrounds around Rexford serve primarily as convenient overnight stops for travelers rather than destination camping.

What to do

Visit local antique shops: Whistle Stop RV and Antiques combines camping with shopping opportunities. "Very clean restrooms and showers. Very nice to work with while traveling late at night. We will definitely stop again on our way to Colorado next time!" notes Crystal L.

Explore disc golf courses: Oberlin-Sappa State Park offers frisbee golf among its recreational options. "I should have paid more attention to this park. I didn't realize there was a frisbee golf course. Plenty of hiking, biking and horse riding trails," shares Patti M.

Watch local stock car races: The Thomas County Fairgrounds campground provides access to regional events. "Last night was the local stock car races, which were mind-boggling loud but we just went over and watched the races and had a blast," reports Brian S.

Try local restaurants: Several campgrounds offer dining options within walking distance. "Ordered food from Cap'n Jack's Pub which was delivered to our RV. Food was good pub food!" mentions Donna H. about her stay at High Plains Camping.

What campers like

Budget-friendly overnight stays: Kansas Country Inn & RV Park provides economical options for travelers. "Got a level space to park, electric and bathrooms with a shower for $22. Perfect no fuss stop to nap and clean while passing through," writes Roni J.

Accessible amenities: Oberlin Inn & RV Park offers convenient facilities. "Nice little spot in beautiful NW Kansas. Conveniently located on the intersection of Hwy 83 and Hwy 36. Like everyone in this town, the owners are helpful and friendly," reports Jason V.

Spacious sites: Some campgrounds provide roomier parking options. "The camp sites in section 300/400 are spacious with full utilities," notes Felix S. about High Plains Camping.

Prairie views: The open landscape offers distinctive scenery. "Level gravel sites...beautiful prairie views," describes Juan G., highlighting the natural setting at High Plains Camping.

What you should know

Weather extremes: Northwestern Kansas experiences significant temperature variations. "Midnight stop to rest for a few hours. Basic, small setup for RVs. We used the electricity hookup, but it was too cold for us to hookup to water," shares Megan about Kansas Country Inn & RV Park.

Limited cell service: Coverage can be unreliable throughout the region. "I had a hard time using T-Mobile because I seem to be in a dead spot, but I was able to use their Wi-Fi," reports Mary L.

Goathead burrs: Several campgrounds have vegetation that can cause problems. "Friendly folks running the show, very good size sites for long rigs and all hookups work great. Only downside is the goats head burs are present. Don't walk around barefoot you'll regret it," warns Jose` D.

Highway noise: Many RV parks sit near major roads. "Keep in mind it is right by a highway, so there was a lot of traffic sounds," notes Rosie M. about Kansas Country Inn.

Tips for camping with families

Look for swimming options: Some RV parks offer pools during summer months. "Solid hookups, comfortable pool, it's super breezy here in the high plains and they've got some trees to help cut it down but it's the high plains!" mentions Jennifer H. about High Plains Camping.

Pack proper footwear: Protected feet are essential at most area campgrounds. "Just be aware of where you're walking. I ended up with a metal staple in my foot and our pups picked up stickers in the grass," cautions Brittany V. after staying at Whistle Stop RV and Antiques.

Consider site layout: RV sites often feature grouped utilities. "This campground is great if you just need a no-fuss full hookup site. Sites are back-in," explains Brian S. about Thomas County Fairgrounds.

Check bathroom availability: Not all locations maintain facilities. "There is a sign indicating that there must have been restrooms at one time- probably pit toilets- but they're are NO bathrooms at this site!" warns Mary N. about Oberlin-Sappa State Park.

Tips from RVers

Call ahead for utility access: Some parks require advance arrangements. "There is a sign that says to call city hall on Wednesday between 8 and 5 to active electric. Today it is 101 degrees," reports Gary T. about Oberlin-Sappa State Park.

Consider site spacing: RV sites vary in proximity to neighbors. "Hotel WiFi is hit and miss, and the RV spots are small. We couldn't put out our awning without invading the neighbors," notes Jason V. about Oberlin Inn & RV Park.

Look for media amenities: Entertainment options exist at select locations. "Over 800 DVD's to borrow and we're headed to the on-site pub now!" shares Jennifer H. about High Plains Camping.

Check site configurations: Some parks use unique utility arrangements. "The campers are arranged in groups of four around the central utility area. Everything works," explains Mary L. describing Kansas Country Inn.
