High Plains Camping is under new ownership and management since 2022. The managers, Jana and Andy are very wonderful, very helpful. They have a lot of plans to reconstruct the facility. It’s tired, but clean. They do have a cafe “Grub n Chug”. Great pizza and beer at a reasonable price. The camp sites in section 300/400 are spacious with full utilities.

Lovely campsite! Plenty of spots! You can be on the water, tucked away, or grab a few sites with some friends! Awesome to have picnic tables. It was a little buggy at dusk, but other than that no complaints. I got to see 2 great blue herons and listen to 2 great horned owls call to each other at night - how awesome!

This was a convenient place to stop for the day. Has full hookups. Keep in mind it is right by a highway, so there was a lot of traffic sounds.

GuideStayed one night in a tent. Was able to find a site tucked in the trees that felt separate from the other campsites and it was perfect! Had a range of sites from primitive (picnic table and fire ring) to full hook up. Huge, busy campground but not overwhelming—there’s enough space to accommodate. Verizon works great.
GuideI stopped for just one night on my way to Colorado in a baby 13 foot travel trailer and they were kind enough to put me back in the corner so I could watch the beautiful Kansas Sunset, and away from the big rigs. Big clean, hot and free showers with good water pressure.

I've been here twice now. Once in July and now at the very end of Oct. Better in Oct. No ticks or bugs and frankly of all the camping locations, there is a number of different choices, I had my section to myself. This place has swimming, a small hike, your choice of camping location, a frisbee golf course and miles one could hike or bike. I think it is kind of a jewel in the Kansas system.
RangerVery friendly staff. Convenient for an overnight stay. Affordable. Thankful for electricity as it was cold. Watch for the thorny burrs that get all over shoes especially if you have a dog…. Would be very painful for them. RVs very close to one another. Never accessed the bathhouse yet one was available with a combo. Good WiFi

Gravel, level sites. Short walk to the convenience store to get key to unlock the utilities box and pay for the site (check or cash only). Beautiful lake with walking path just over a mile around.
GuideThe campers are right next to each other. They are arranged in groups of four around the central utility area. Everything works. There is a swimming, pool and showers and bathrooms.
ScoutWhat a gorgeous spot on our journey from CO to MN! Free sites around the lake and ok fishing. The game warden stopped by and said that the fish (carp, catfish, crappie, bluegill & shad) are all stunted. Too many fish for a small lake. Overnight we heard coyotes, crickets & cows.
GuideFriendly folks running the show, very good size sites for long rigs and all hookups work great. Only downside is the goats head burs are present. Don’t walk around barefoot you’ll regret it.

Not sure how you are suppose to access the electric boxes all had a lock tag on them. I was able to check which boxes were hot and found two boxes hot but was only able to use the 110 plug. Did not find any potable water all faucets were marked as non potable. There is a sign that says to call city hall on Wednesday between 8 and 5 to active electric. Today it is 101 degrees.

It's very expensive per night here and u will be right by the highway I'm sleeping out of the back of my rodeo so the noise is very annoying but I'm sure in an rv it wouldn't be bad at all I do have to say it is very clean here right by a gas station and a Walmart so a one night stay for a refuel and restock it is a good stay

ScoutCamping for anyone arriving at anytime. Don’t expect the best when arriving late, but most of you will have reservations, right? Then you will have the best. (Pause; Coyotes calling) this place has everything for any State Park you could ask. Expansive open grasslands a lake full of fish and fowl. Turkeys and whitetail deer and the coyotes call in the distance. A photographer could get lost in the pure wilderness available in the prairie. I’ve visited here during every season. The heat and bugs of mid July to the frozen autumn morings, always beautiful and teaming with wildlife. A great place to stay no matter your style. Just please be quiet, Mother Nature is listening.
ScoutThe bugs here weren't bad at all. Lots of bird sounds and coyotes in the evening. Plenty of cows nearby to add to the nature sounds. Some level sites for tent camping. Very windy during our stay. Overall a nice place to stay!
LegendThis was our first stop after hitting the road to start full time RVing, and we definitely needed to stop and recollect ourselves, but this is definitely a one night stop aorta place… nothing really near by but right off the highway and has all the full amenities one needs to recharge and prep for their next stop. Walmart is directly across the street within walking distance.
Just be aware of where you’re walking. I ended up with a metal staple in my foot and our pups picked up stickers in the grass
TravelerMidnight stop to rest for a few hours. Basic, small setup for RVs. We used the electricity hookup, but it was too cold for us to hookup to water. Unsure if there was a sewer hookup as there was snow on the ground and we weren't about to go digging around to find out. Office attendant was friendly and polite to a few tired travelers.
TravelerWe stayed in Prairie Dog State Park for one night on our way back home from Colorado and were pleasantly surprised with what a nice park this was. We stayed in a primitive site. The sites were spacious and had a wonderful shelter! The vault toilet, however didnt look like it had been swept in awhile as it had a LOT of bug carcasses. But otherwise a nice place to stay. Something for everyone, tents, RVs, campers. Beautiful views!
