"This campground has both RV full hookup and electric sites very close to the lake. Campsites offer a great view of lake and close access to docks."
"Beautiful lake, great walking trail, close to town and I-80, but quiet and peaceful. Can’t beat it for $11 a night."
"Iowa has many great county parks, and this one is no exception. There are three campgrounds in the park. The South campground, Middle campground, and North campground."
"Walking on the trails reminded me of how beautiful nature is, because of all the flowers and tall prairie grasses."

"The trees at the campsites aren't mature enough for shade, but the ponds and trails more than make up for that."

"These Iowa state parks are extremely clean and well taken care of. The lake is huge with multiple trails that the kids loved. Playground was directly behind us which is a plus for us."
"Reserved electric unit 090 for the weekend, which had a scenic corn field for a backdrop - this is Iowa!"
"The directions on this app take you to the first entrance which is not where the camping is, but follow the huge arrow and you’ll find it no problem."
"I saw two tractors driving through town and only a few more cars.
Best of all we had a full 5 bars of ripping Verizon service. What's not to like?"

"We have been going to Viking lake for years. We hadn't been back until just recently. Our absence was due to an invasive species in the lake a few years back."
"We been to Viking Lake a few times over the years. And it has been cool to see this place evolve over time. They did drain this lake a few years back."
"Our family and another family shared a primitive tent site near the back of the park. We were first and foremost impressed with the freedom we had in choosing our site."
"I like that you can tent camp anywhere in the Camp area down by the lake with all your friends close by. the trails and playground equipment is nice and the fishing is great!"
"Nice campground and staff, town close by if you need more supplies, we like it here!"
"Lots of space around your site. Fills up fast on weekends. Would recommend this park."
Drove by scouting things out but the tv park was barricaded and didn’t appear to have been occupied for some time…. Motel was open though.
I didn’t stay here but did scout it out. Small park by the NishnaBotna river. I did see a camper there with his dog but website specifically says no pets.
Had a great time but it was hot and windy. Wind was shaking the camper and the neighbor decided to leave because of the heat and wind. The view of the lake is worth it all though. Nit into fishing but lots of people out in boats, kayaks, and on the shore. I’ll be back soon…
First and foremost- I called the camp host and he actually answered and was super nice (called the number from the camps website) It had many open spots for a Friday evening. The spots for tent/van was $15. The bathroom/showers were super clean. The established trees all over was fantastic. The directions on this app take you to the first entrance which is not where the camping is, but follow the huge arrow and you’ll find it no problem. I walked around the cute little town on Main Street and loved it though everything was closed at 1900.
I stayed one night on my way to Colorado. For only $10 dollars this campground has a lot to provided including free showers. First come first serve. Highly recommend.
Very nice. Don't trust Google on the way in... Follow signs. Train(s) at 2 AM. Excellent Verizon 5G. WiFi password didn't work.
Based on other reviews we weren’t expecting much, but this spot is perfect for getting a good night’s rest when passing through Iowa.
Camping is basically a parking space in a tiny town park in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. Each space is marked by an electric hookup. Although it says RV and tent, tent camping isn’t exactly defined (just pull up and pitch a tent in the grass). Just rolled up in our “hard-shelled tent mobile” and don’t use hookups, so can’t comment there.
The park is quiet, though the interstate noise is still fairly loud. But it’s far better than pulling into a rest area where the highway and truck generators are constant.
Our only non-quiet moment was when we pulled in on a Saturday night after dark and a group of local kids were hanging out around the bathrooms. We heard some good old fashioned hide and seek (which made us smile) among other screeches and hollers. They stayed out till 11-11:30pm, which was a bit late, but what can you expect from kids in a tiny town with not a whole lot else to do.
There are signs for camping at just about every small town exit, so there are a number of options between Des Moines and Council Bluffs. We chose this town because access is quick and easy. Keeping it in our list of quieter non-rest area places to sleep!
Our confirmation email included precise directions from I-29, with an interstate sign confirming the turn for Lake Manawa State Park, and provided the gate code for access. We proceeded to back-in site 28 with full hookups; the back-in was easy, and the site was level, with utilities located toward the rear and a slight uphill grade to the sewer connection. The campground (CG) features well-spaced, spacious sites with no trees nearby great for satellite access. We had a bit of a water view through the trees, and connectivity was decent with 2 bars on Verizon and 3 on T-Mobile; water pressure was around 40 psi. We arrived on a Thursday for a four-night stay, and the CG filled up over the weekend. About 150 yards from our site was the popular Dreamland playground, which draws families with young kids to that side of the CG next time, we'd choose a site farther from the playground for more quiet.
Essentially a parking lot with electric and water hookups, but only 9 minutes from downtown Omaha. Check-in at security window at Horseshoe. $40 weekday rate and $50 weekend rate. There’s a building that has bathrooms, showers and laundry.
