    Lake Paho

    Great

This is a very basic campground with trash graveled spots, which are relatively flat and pit toilets. Rode around the lake on my bike. And there were at least 4 different camp spots and several spots for access for boats. All well, maintained and well laid out. I'm extraordinarily pleasantly pleased with the campgrounds. It was free, which is pretty awesome and there's a number of spots like this in missouri, this being our first spot was quite exciting. I don't know about the sparsely used. It's mid-november and the campground is half full. The other campgrounds had campers in them as well, all with the same amenities.

    Nine Eagles State Park Campground

    Big park. Lots of trails

This park is huge with a lot of trails most of which are not on a map and a map isnt provided out on them either so one just kind of has to make guesses on where to go. The electric campground is completely exposed to the sun. Nice right now but has to be brutal in the summer and the sites are right on top of one another as well. It is also a long ways from the beach as is the primitive campground. Horse campground is adorable but there are only primitive sites there which I always find so surprising. They have multiple trails leaving from there though which is cool. Firewood is sold in the small town a mile away and there is a very old cemetery right outside of the park which is cool to meander through. Bathrooms were closed but the water and electric were on and the price is very reasonable.

    Slip Bluff County Park

    Surprised but pleased

First, you have to want to get here. Pretty long drive on rougher gravel roads. Fine for a car or truck but the dashboard and dust will affect your RV. But, campground is cute, nicely laid out, work put in to make flat spots which have some privacy and all under huge and beautiful oak trees. Trails all through the property. Loads of trails around the lake. Everything one needs from water, trash, bathrooms and electricity with 5g Verizon access.

    Fifes Grove Co Park

    Nice quiet park

There's a handful of first come. First served sights with electric water is available. Trash firewood and put toilets are also available. There are several nice hikes around the park and across the street is a sizable lake, and you're only a mile or two from town.

    Poe Hollow County Park

Small modern campground near road with road noise

We stopped for a night. It's a small circular campground that provides electric water, trash recycling, wood and a pit toilet. The sights are very small, very close and very uneven. Also, there's a busy road, just feet away. That has a lot of road noise. They can even be heard through a closed up camper. There's a great trail that leads to a 2 mile paved trail. Note there are stairs if you take your bike. You will have to carry them up the stairs.

    Kokesh Co Park

Cute but no way to park flat

Very basic small county campground. Three spots with electric tiny playground area and some spots for tents. Pit toilet electric water, those are the services. Impossible to park a small camper van flat, though I completely would have stayed and done some exploring in the area, but literally impossible to get flat. Nice ring. Of trees around the outside so protected from the wind. Cute grass well maintained. I just wish they'd made the camping area for R. V's flat. This is also not for big rigs. If you're gonna come, you gotta come with something small enough to fit into the spaces.

    Marlin Fogle Rec Area

    Simple but complete services

This is a small but fairly well maintained campground. Spots don't have a view of the lake which is a little odd. And there's a town right there. Surprising number of people at the campground for this time of the year. All there is is electric and water and trash, but there must be at least eight campers here right now.

Lake of Three Fires State Park Campground

Rated so high due to the trails

Tons of miles for biking and hiking and if you fold in the trails on the public lands around, more then anyone can do in a weekend. We'll maintained. Campground, not so much. That would get a much lower score if I rated just that. Very few electric spots and they are close and in disrepair. Bathrooms are oddly placed like the group campground would need to walk all the way across the picnic area to have any access. Once they close the shower facilities, some campgrounds have no bathrooms available. Oddly, there is a LOT of vehicles driving through which for winter was surprising. All in, lots of trees, nice beach, Frisbee golf, super interesting cemetery right outside the property and loads of other public lands all sitting around a very nice lake. But bridges out, an entire row of non-working electric posts and weird bathroom placement leads to an overall odd use of a state park.

    Fifes Grove Co Park

    Peaceful and quiet campground

I had the campground to myself on 1-Nov-2025! There are 6 sites with electric service (50/30/20 amp) with some being reservable and others first come first served. Water spigots are available to fill your camper or for tent camper use by sites 1 and 6. Sites are fairly close together, so no privacy on the sides. The sites are all back-in and back up to a beautiful open prairie/forest mix. Sites can accommodate up to 27-30 foot travel trailers, maximum. Sites are gravel and not level. There is one large tent camping site. No dumping facilities are available at the park. There is a fishing pond at the entrance of the campground. The pond also has a walking trail around it. By site 6, there are two outhouses, a covered picnic shelter and a playground.

Overall, my experience here has been great. While there is a 14 day maximum stay limit, I just spent one night as I was passing through the area. Verizon cell phone and internet service was very good.
