Well thought out campground in the middle of the suburbs. You can actually forget that you are in the middle of a very urban area. If your looking to camp near Chicago, this is the spot! Only complaint is you get locked in an hour after sunset, but still worth coming here.
Month Stayed: September Site: gravel and level Spacing: very close to others Cleanliness: very clean Surrounding: trees throughout, playgrounds, nice bathrooms Noise: some noise due to closeness Access: easy to find Safety: felt very safe although some rough areas of town to the south Bathrooms:…

Nice camp site are nice size. Over a 1/3 of the site are walk in, started on 2021. This make it hard to make a reservation for the weekend, most reserved site are book for one night.
Lovely campground north west of Chicago. The shower facilities were clean and the staff very friendly.
Large campground, concrete spots are very nice.
Took our new to us Pop Up Camper to this resort during Labor Day weekend on her maiden voyage. Was surrounded by awesome people in their big rigs but not once made us feel inferior or less than for not having an RV at an RV resort. Pros:
- Activities provided by the campsite
- lots of room and not…
I followed the coordinates provided and they led me to a person's driveway, but then I found the actual silver springs state park, and could not find a camping area anywhere around there. It may exist, but not in this version of the universe. There were strict "no pets off leash" signs, and "no…
We came across this one day during a day hike in the Marengo Ridge Forest preserve in McHenry county. It's about 90 mins NW of Chicago. The trails are both wooded and hilly, but there's also a large prairie nature walk.
The campground has many secluded walk-in tent sites and a variety of sites…
Staff was very friendly. Easy access to nice hiking trails. Bathrooms and showers decent. No concessions, but there is a place in the office to get Pepsi products. Would definitely stay here again if outside of Chicago area!

We love a nice, quiet place to camp and were delighted when in August only half of the Sunset campground was full and those in it were quiet. Our spot, #320 had great tree coverage for privacy and while most of the spots did there were some on the inner circle that didn't have as much. The State…
Very difficult to contact staff to book reservation. When we got there they told us they double booked us and requested we move after we got set up. We declined as there were other spots open and we were staying for under 24 hours. Concessions were scarce. No water or dumping hook up. Electric…

Great campground, very well-maintained, nice sites, great location. One of our favorites of a month long trip staying at 15 sites!
Did a quick stay with the kids for a Friday and Saturday night. A little bit smaller of a campground with regards to site space, but that's about the only thing 'bad' to say, and it's not really a bad thing at all.
Staff was very friendly and the facilities were kept very clean.
Gorgeous park in a somewhat remote, i.e., quiet area. The sites are large, level and well-dispersed; there’s plenty of shade; the electrical connections are well-placed. Unfortunately, the water connection in our site (61) was a bit of a stretch. Contact via phone was a bit challenging; it took…
Close to Indiana Dunes National Park. Easy access. Lots of rules thrown at you from the get go. Don’t park on the grass, Don’t drive over 5 mph, Don’t have alcohol outside your space. Lots of rules. Few smiling faces. Lots of trees. A mix of semi permanent residents and transient sites
