    Aspen Grove RV Park

    So clean

Whow…new new new facilities with all the big rigs pull thru power water sewer games dog park ice cream souvenir shops easy on and off the freeway. Close to restaurants. But a sterile walking environment. Concrete pads and all… can’t go wrong here.

    Great park and friendly staff

When planning our visit, we were confused by something on the website, so I called to get clarification. The staff member that I spoke with was very friendly and answered all my questions. When we arrived, the staff member at the park was very friendly and accommodating. The site we had reserved had a next-door neighbor, but there were several empty sires without direct neighbors and she happily changed our site so we had more breathing room. This park has a big open field designated as the dog park and the RV park as a whole is very pet friendly. We were in site 17, which was a 50 amp site so we had to use an adapter for our 30 amp trailer. Hookups were conveniently located and included water, electric, and sewer. The site was a super level gravel pull through although they also had some back in spots and tent friendly spots. This park is right off the interstate but we really didn't notice the road noise. The bathroom and shower was clean and well kept. The town as a whole is small but cute and has a great city park. We didnt eat at the diner in town but were told by family that its a great place to eat. We were there for two nights and will definitely stop there again when we're in the area.

    Lava Hot Springs West KOA

    Not camping, but still great

Don’t get me wrong. This is not camping. But it’s the perfect spot if you want to be around all the fun action of Lava Hot Springs. You’re walking distance to the river, restaurants, the pool and all the fun stuff in Lava. We were on site #1 which is by the playground and dog park, because we had both on our reservation. At first we were upset at our location, but it was actually great. Everything is clean and well managed and management made sure people kept to the quiet time.

    Excellent facility for your money

Straight up. The ONLY thing stopping me from giving this place 5 stars is the lack of trees at the sites. If it were July, this place would be hot without shade. Full hookups, WiFi, Dog park close to town. Great staff. Just need more trees!

    Bear Lake/Marina Side KOA Holiday

    Busy, not private but clean

I had never been to a KOA campground before but we were driving cross country and were tired. For $43 for a tent site we got a nice patch of grass and a fire pit. It’s clean and comfortable, but definitely a busy place. You are right next to your neighbor but they do try and put you in every-other site for space. Great bathroom facilities, dog park, amenities.

It really depends on what you like. We are tent campers that like forest service campgrounds so this is too busy for us. But a nice spot.

Guide to Preston

Many access roads become impassable after snowfall or during spring runoff periods.

What to do

Hike to balancing rock formations: Third Creek Group Site features "restrooms and several tables at each site, small creek with beautiful valley walls. Check out the balancing rock and climb up for more great views," according to camper Tyler T.

Wildlife viewing in quiet areas: Away from the main roads at Franklin Basin Dispersed Camping, camper Kennedy F. notes, "Ended up driving this road up to Idaho to find a bigger spot and some solitude. Took the dirt road for about 30 minutes and got the most perfect spot. Nobody was near us and the view was amazing."

River access for summer cooling: At Cub River Lodge & RV Park, camper Melissa D. mentions "A special friend has built a cabin right on the river. I have been so blessed to have shared fun times on razor rides on all the many trails up the Mountainside."

Hot springs access: Downata Hot Springs offers camping with hot springs access. According to Anthony B., "Cold winter months and you need to get away? Early season wildflowers: Willow Flat Campground camper Kassidy S. recommends timing your visit carefully: "We have camped here almost every year and it's amazing every time. The wildflowers are beautiful but once it hits late June they are usually gone."

What you should know

Weather preparation: Even summer nights get cold at Franklin Basin. Kennedy F. advises, "We went at the beginning of June, it was a bit chilly some mornings and at night, so come prepared."

Tips for camping with families

Cabin options for different group sizes: Downata Hot Springs offers various accommodation types. Shani C. explains, "We had returned but had got a cabin with a loft. There are only 3 loft cabins. They are super cozy, and come with a full kitchen."

Noise considerations: For families seeking quiet pet-friendly campgrounds near Preston, avoid Green Canyon during peak times. Conner reports, "Perhaps a little too close to the university in Logan Utah it was busy that Friday night. I think all the spots filled by 7pm some 50 people there that night."

Tips from RVers

Road conditions for dispersed camping: At Green Canyon Dispersed Campground, Ruby W. notes, "My Honda Civic was able to navigate the gravel road far back into the canyon."

Hookup availability: Cub River Lodge & RV Park offers limited services. Brandon notes, "There is no cell service here but they do offer Wi-Fi. Not sure if it was due to the amount of people, but the wifi was useless as we couldn't even make a phone call."

Site spacing considerations: Riverdale Resort (now Bear River Hot Springs) RV sites can feel cramped. Joe C. warns, "RV park is in bad shape and crowded. Looked like a couple of long term trashy residents."
