Juniper County Park offers full hookup sites for $30 per night at Ririe Reservoir. Located about 15 miles east of Idaho Falls, this area sits at approximately 5,000 feet elevation with a dry climate that averages less than 12 inches of rainfall annually. The reservoir covers 1,560 acres and has 25 miles of shoreline with several campgrounds offering different levels of amenities.
What to do
Fishing at Ririe Reservoir: The fishing at Juniper County Park provides good opportunities for rainbow trout and perch. "The fishing at 'Blacktail' is good for Rainbows and perch - highly recommended. The area is out in the middle of nowhere and was only 1/4 full. A great spot to reach Idaho Falls or the Grand Tetons, and Jackson WY," notes Greg G. from Juniper Group Campsite.
Visit local hot springs: Just a short drive from several Ririe campgrounds, Heise Hot Springs offers a relaxing option after a day of outdoor activities. "The hot springs are just a short walk from the campground, which is a huge bonus when you've got kids (or tired feet). Whether we're grabbing pizza, ice cream, or hitting the restaurant, everything is close and super convenient," shares Brian C. from Heise Hot Springs.
Boating and paddling: Several campgrounds provide direct water access for various watercraft. "This is a nice little area hidden near a reservoir. You can reserve or first come sites. The website is easy to navigate and reserve. Full hookups. Plenty of room for kids to play. With a low price per night it's one of the best we've found in the area," says Jeff P. about Juniper County Park.
What campers like
Privacy between sites: Many campers appreciate the spacing and natural screening at Ririe area campgrounds. "The campground consists of 3 loops all have large level sites with platforms for tents and full hookups at only $30.00. The entire area is dotted with huge junipers that offer good cover and seclusion," according to a review from Greg G. at Juniper County Park.
Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness is consistently mentioned as a positive feature. "Sites are paved, bathrooms are a private toilet, shower, sink combo that are super clean. Full hook-ups are $30 per night. Loop A has to be reserved on line but I was able to reserve at the campground after picking my site. Well-spaced sites, mostly level. Very quiet," notes Amy B. at Juniper County Park.
Quiet setting: The more remote nature of campgrounds near Ririe provides a peaceful experience. "This is a beautiful, quiet camp. On weekdays anyway when we stayed. Clean bathrooms, wonderful and flat sites, easy hookups, kind people. Close to hot springs and Idaho Falls," writes Kathy S. about Mountain River Ranch.
What you should know
Site leveling challenges: Be prepared to level your RV at some campgrounds in the area. "Very nice quiet & clean campground. Well kept grassy area for dogs. The host was quick to respond & helpful with any issue. Some sites are a little uneven. No Wi-Fi. Beautiful views!" mentions Melanie T. about Juniper County Park.
Sprinkler schedules: Several campgrounds use irrigation systems that may affect camping experience. "We were pleasantly surprised by this gem of a campground just outside Idaho Falls, which we used for one night on our trip through the area. The only downside were sprinklers going off at our campsite right at dinner time (soaking the fire pit), but due to no one else being around, we used a nearby campsite for our fire/dinner. Maybe chat with the camp host before picking a spot to learn what the sprinkler schedule is," advises Joshua D. from Juniper County Park.
Seasonal availability: Not all campgrounds in the area operate year-round. "This camp ground is not busy. My only negative is the bath houses are not kept clean," notes Deborah A. about Beaver Dick Park Campground.
Tips for camping with families
Look for playgrounds: Several dog-friendly campgrounds near Ririe feature play areas for children. "Disc golf! Excellent short course. Water access from a ramp about 400' from camping. One large group site. Some trails (most were underwater during our visit). Small kids playground," explains Mark F. about Beaver Dick Park.
Water activities: The reservoir offers swimming options during summer months. "We enjoy taking our young family to this campground. It's well manicured, and there is plenty of space. It's easy to get to and has a fun, little park for the kids. We go camping there almost every year," shares Christopher W. about Beaver Dick Park.
Consider campground layout: Some campgrounds offer more family-friendly spaces. "The sites are wide open and well-spaced, giving you breathing room and views—not neighbors on top of you. Drivers are respectful and go slow for kids, which is huge in our book," notes Brian C. about Heise Hot Springs.
Tips from RVers
Full hookup availability: Multiple campgrounds offer complete RV services. "Found this spot recently that had full hookups on most sites. Located just above a lake. They have bathrooms with showers. Loop A is reservations only loops B and C are first come first serve. Loop A has a mixture of 30 and a few 50 amp spots with sewer and water. Water pressure is good around 60 PSI," explains Mark P. from Twin Bridges Park.
Reservation systems: Understanding how to book sites can improve your experience. "Juniper is an excellent campground located on the Ririe reservoir and recreation area. The campground consists of 3 loops all have large level sites with platforms for tents and full hookups at only $30.00," notes Greg G. about Juniper County Park.
Dump station locations: Know where to find dump stations when staying at campgrounds without sewer hookups. "This is a great location. Easy access," mentions Mark P. about Ririe Reservoir Dump Station.
