    Squirrel Meadows Cabin

Love the cabin and so much wildlife!

Squirrel Meadows Cabin in WY is a lot of fun, and great for a family. The cabin is pretty awesome, although there is no electricity- but that didn't really bother my family and I. Were did a ton of outdoor activities, that we really weren't inside the cabin a whole lot. The cabin is about 25 miles from Ashton, ID in a beautiful forest area. The cabin is surrounded by trees, and you do see quite a bit of wildlife. The fee to rent the cabin is $40 a night, which is not bad considering what you would pay for a hotel a night. The cabin does fit 6, although we had 5 people in our group and that seemed like plenty (6 might be a little crowded, but would still work!). We did a lot of outdoor activities like hiking, biking and also picked some really good berries. There was honestly something for everyone to do, which made the stay here nice. The cabin does provide bunk beds- not the most comfortable so I would suggest bringing some type of air mattress or camping pad to put down on the bed. It does have a wood stove, table, chairs, dishes, and pots. I would also suggest bringing your own garbage bags because the place does not provide this. We didn't bring any, and had to drive to the nearest town to get some. You do want to pack out your own garbage, because we later found out that you will get charged extra if you don't. You also want to put away any food you have outside because there are bears- we left a garbage bag outside and in the morning it was open and trash was everywhere! I would recommend staying here, and cant wait to come back with my family.

    Hover Camp

    Great amenities and great location!

We needed a place to stay in our van for a few nights on our way to Grand Tetons. The owners were very friendly and helpful, Randy even brought us a picnic table for our spot. It was so nice to have a hot shower for a change. The bathhouse/restroom was very clean. There is laundry on site, which was a major plus for us. Cell service is great, and WiFi is provided. They also have large RV/camper spots, tent spots, and cabins. There’s a play area for children too. We are so grateful for them having us at their campsite, and if we are in the area again we will be back!

    Hover Camp

Fly fishing outfitter and campground in one

In Swan Valley the name of the game is fly fishing. This small campground is also a fly fishing outfitter and shop. While l was just passing through and I am not a fisherwoman, it seemed to offer pretty good services if that is your thing. I pulled in after hours but fortunately the owner’s dog alerted her to my presence and she was willing to open the office to rent me a tent site for the evening. There are 3ish tent sites(one was being worked on), about a half dozen pull thru RV sites, and 3 or 4 cabins for rent. There is a central bathhouse with two full bathrooms in a trailer for everyone to share. The bathhouse rooms are electronically accessed with codes the host gives you on check in. They were really nice and clean, like bathrooms in a typical modern home, except that one had the water heater tank in it and both had space heaters on the floor to plug in(fire hazard??). The tent site I chose was at the back of the campground so I didn’t have much highway noise, and fell asleep to the sound of the nearby horses grazing. Next door on the other side is a municipal building that appears to be the home base for the sheriff. The view of the back of the office/fly shop is not very picturesque, with boats and atv’s and odds and ends laying about. There are nice trees providing shade, but there is no real privacy between sites, tents, or cabins. The grass was quite lush, so I am wondering when the sprinkler system comes on. This place works as a layover or for someone who will take advantage of the fly fishing services, but not much else.

    Warm Slough

    Good for the price($0)

As many free sites are it hasn’t been maintained or respected by those who use it. There’s trash all over and broken glass in the pit toilet. But there’s some picnic tables and fire pits and plenty of space.

    Fireside Resort at Jackson Hole

    Super cool private campground

Mostly I stay at state parks when I camp, but there isn’t much of that around Jackson Hole. This place was great. We stayed in the RV area and it was as much as could be expected. Pull through sites, fire pits, enough space between sites to give you some privacy. The bathrooms and showers were top notch. Close enough to day trip around Jackson. Fun enough to stick around. Awesome tiny house style cabins. We didn’t stay in those but poked around and would totally stay there next time. They looked awesome.

Snake River RV Park & Campground

    Maybe for an overnight stay

A bit run down. Picnic table covered in bird poop. Site seemed washed out. Kinda sandy. No firepit or grill at my site. Pub and grill next door for wine, beer and basic bar food, arcade, family friendly. Verizon service was good. Wifi terrible. General store was poorly stocked. The area seemed industrial. Staff was nice. Bathroom was clean.

Guide to Ririe

Cabin camping near Ririe, Idaho provides visitors access to both the Snake River and South Fork recreational areas, with elevations ranging from 4,800-5,200 feet creating distinct seasonal conditions. Winter temperatures can drop below zero while summer days frequently reach the high 80s with minimal rainfall, making the May-October season optimal for most cabin stays. Local watersheds support diverse wildlife including moose that campers occasionally spot near their accommodations.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Several cabin locations offer direct water access for fishing, particularly for trout. At Warm Slough near Rexburg, visitors can fish Henry's Fork. "Great place to fish, kayak, or float the river. Some campsites will have a picnic table," notes one camper, while another mentions that it's "right on the banks of the slough and there's even a resident moose!"

Hot springs access: Cabins near the Heise area serve as bases for hot springs visits. Aspen Grove Inn at Heise Bridge offers cabins within minutes of Heise Hot Springs, while Hover Camp provides another option for those wanting to explore thermal waters. As one visitor noted about the area, "Close to hot springs and Idaho Falls."

Canoeing and paddle sports: Several cabin locations include small lakes or ponds for water recreation. At Mountain River Ranch, campers report, "The kids loved the pond and riding in the canoe. The whole experience was wonderful." Similarly, Rainbow Lake allows various non-motorized boating options, with one visitor noting, "The lake is good for boating, or if you have a paddle board that would be fun."

What campers like

Privacy between sites: While cabin density varies widely, some locations offer more secluded options. At Wolverine Canyon, dispersed camping with cabins provides natural spacing. "I slept to the sound of the creek going by. In the morning I got to watch some cattle being herded which is pretty cool," shared one visitor, highlighting the rural setting.

Clean facilities: Multiple cabin locations maintain well-kept common areas. At Wakeside Lake RV Park, reviewers consistently mention facility quality: "Very clean restrooms. And staff was very accommodating, helpful and very friendly." Another noted, "Nice laundry facility, bathrooms and showers."

Shade availability: Many cabin sites feature mature trees for protection from summer heat. Snake River RV Park & Campground receives praise for its landscaping: "The shaded areas were huge being that it was 95F out, good to escape the blazing heat!" Similarly, at Wakeside Lake RV Park, "The sites are level gravel and full hookups, 30 Amp. Most sites are shaded."

What you should know

Seasonal availability: Most cabin rentals follow strict seasonal schedules. At 7N Ranch, cabins are only available from April 15 to October 15. Similarly, at Warm Slough, camping is restricted to specific months: "Camping only allowed Oct 1 to Jan 31. 10 days max."

Variable hookup options: Cabins range from primitive to fully equipped. Big Rock Campground offers electric hookups but no water, while other locations provide full services. As one camper at Wind Willows RV Park explained, "The management was so friendly and gave us really good tips on where to go and what to do around there."

Navigation challenges: Some cabin areas can be difficult to locate, particularly those on forest or BLM land. A camper at Warm Slough warned, "This place was hard to find - I almost gave up. The GPS directions and coordinates on this app are both wrong. Take Warm Slough Rd off 4000 N. Ignore the no trespassing signs - they refer to the land on either side of the road."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water features: Several cabin locations include swimming areas or small ponds. Big Rock Campground offers family-oriented recreation: "Off the main road. Good location with swimming, Zip line golfing and hiking." Similarly, Wakeside Lake RV Park receives praise for its lake access: "My kids loved playing in the lake."

Playground availability: A few cabin sites maintain dedicated play areas. A visitor to Snake River RV Park noted, "The park for the kids was perfect and the pool was open too! Beautiful grounds and close to everything in town." Not all locations offer these amenities, however, as one Wakeside Lake camper pointed out: "My only complaint was that their website says there's a playground and I could not find one."

Proximity to attractions: Some cabin locations provide easy access to family destinations. Wind Willows RV Park receives praise for its location: "Right across the freeway from Bear World (super fun for kids and adults), 20 minutes from Heise Hot Springs, and Rexburg Rapids water park."

Tips from RVers

Site spacing considerations: RV sites with cabins vary considerably in spacing. Some campers at Snake River RV Park reported: "Cramped sites, over priced," while others found the layout acceptable. At Warm Slough, a visitor noted the layout offers "plenty of space" with "lots of options with fire rings and tables."

Washboard roads: Access to some rural cabin sites requires navigating unpaved roads. A visitor to Wolverine Canyon described: "It's all paved road until you get to the mouth of the Canyon, then it's a well maintained gravel road. A few washboard spots but easy to tow a trailer even 30 ft long."

Leveling requirements: Site preparation varies between locations. At Wakeside Lake RV Park, campers appreciate that "The sites are level gravel," while a visitor to Hover Camp noted, "They were able to accommodate my last minute reservation... Site 7 has 30Amp and water only."
