Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Newport, WA

Thousand Trails Little Diamond welcomes pets at their well-maintained campground near Diamond Lake. The resort offers tent sites, RV spots with full hookups, and cabin accommodations where dogs can stay with their owners. Several campgrounds in the Newport area feature dedicated pet exercise areas, with Liberty Lake RV Campground providing an exceptional dog park that campers consistently rate as one of the best in the region. Most facilities require pets to remain on leash throughout the campgrounds, though designated off-leash areas are available at select locations. The grounds at Riley Creek Campground include a specific pet area where dogs can swim, making it particularly popular during summer months. Campground hosts typically make multiple rounds throughout the day to ensure pet policies are followed for everyone's safety and enjoyment.

Nearby hiking trails accommodate leashed dogs, with Liberty Lake Regional Park offering pet-friendly paths through wooded areas. Campers should be prepared to clean up after their pets, as some reviewers have noted issues with pet waste at certain facilities despite waste stations being available. The pet-friendly beaches at Blackwell Island provide excellent opportunities for dogs to cool off during hot summer days. Many campgrounds enforce quiet hours that apply to barking dogs as well as general noise. Visitors staying at Old American Kampground should note that while pets are allowed, the campground has limited grassy areas, making it challenging to keep RVs clean when traveling with dogs despite having outdoor mats. Most facilities in the area maintain clean, well-stocked bathrooms and showers, allowing campers with pets to enjoy comfortable amenities after outdoor activities.

    River Walk RV Park

Parking lot near river and bike trail

It is hard to find many positives about this place. It has nothing to do with the people, but only about the "campground". It is a parking lot. No grass. Very tight. Lots of seasonal folks. There is a dog park. It Is right on the river. It is right on the bike trail. It is close to town. Beyond that. There is nothing that I deem attractive or desirable about this place. So for me personally, we passed. Please check out the photos and judge for yourself.

    Blue Lake RV Resort

    Cute RV park

Cute little RV park off the highway. Very quite with a small lake. Families can enjoy fishing, swimming, yard games, fire pit, and very dog friendly with a fenced dog park. We are tent campers and had a nice spot on lake. only a few tent sites. Super clean bathrooms with hot shower.

    Liberty Lake RV Campground

Looks like a parking lot with RVs

This is a newer RV park in Liberty Lake. They have only been open 2 years. Liberty Lake is between Spokane, WA and Coeur d’Alene ID. There are about 130 spaces or so, with concrete pads and paved streets. There is grass between sites, but they are much too close to be comfortable, and there is no shade! And, the rules!!! Lots more rules than most other camping areas.’ It also appears many of the residents are semi-permanent. They have free cable snd wifi, a dog park, playground, swimming pool, laundry, and dump station. The sites are 30/50 amp, most are pull through but the outer ring is back in. They also have propane. They are on the pricy side: an outside loop 50 ft. Site is $74/night. Good Sam gets you a 10% discount. It is easy access to I-90 both East and west.

    Coeur d'Alene RV Resort

    Nice Public Bldg

We stayed the night in January and had a late check-in. Paid $69 and had access to full hookups. If you are not there before 5 pm they will not share the code for the bathrooms, etc so beware! Neighbors are told not to give out the code so we had quite a time trying to get in! The public building has bathrooms, laundry, pool, small store and a nice lounge. Lots are quite close together but it is neatly laid out with a few dog parks.

    Wolf Lodge Campground

    Clean and convenient

Made my reservation for an overnight stay over the phone on my way there. Staff was very kind and friendly. I came after the office was closed and a map was left for which tent site was mine. Very clean campgrounds, had a cute little dog park in it too. Ample amount of restrooms and showers available, that were spotless and well stocked.

    Liberty Lake RV Campground

    City Slicker Camping

All in all our trip was great. The campground is very clean and well maintained. All of the spots had big pads that were very easy to maneuver around. Very dog friendly park with a fenced off off lease dog park that was easy to access. The swimming pool was fantastic as well. If you are looking for a true outdoors in the woods camping spot this is not the place for you. You are maybe half mile from I-90 and road noise can be heard all hours. You are also in the middle of the town Liberty Lake. Minutes from Safeway, McDonalds and Starbucks. If that is your cup of tea this is the place for you.

Guide to Newport

Newport camping areas provide a mix of wooded, lakeside, and riverfront options with elevation ranging from 2,100 to 2,500 feet. The region experiences warm summers with highs around 85°F and cold winters with frequent snow. Most campgrounds maintain standard quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and fire restrictions are common during late summer dry periods.

What to do

Fishing spots: Catch trout and crappie at Round Lake's fishing docks. This state park offers a convenient fishing setup with two dedicated docks. As Jason S. notes, "I had a great time casting off from them and even caught a couple of crappies and trout which was a nice bonus."

Hiking trails: Explore the 1.5-mile lake loop at South Skookum Lake Campground. This relatively flat trail encircles the lake and takes about 45 minutes to complete. Marcus K. mentions, "The lake is very small and is non-motorized vessels only," making it perfect for a quiet nature walk.

Water recreation: Take advantage of multiple swimming areas with varying features. The Pend Oreille River offers several access points with slower currents suitable for casual swimmers. At Round Lake State Park Campground, "The swimming area is nice with kind of sandy beach, but there is a bit of seaweed in the swimming area," according to recent visitor Jason S.

What campers like

Private campsites: Find secluded spots with natural buffers at Pioneer Park. The campground offers well-spaced sites with enough tree cover for privacy. Scott T. describes it as having "wooded, nicely spaced sites" that provide a sense of seclusion despite being relatively close to town.

Clean facilities: Appreciate consistently maintained bathrooms at Riley Creek Campground. The campground features regularly cleaned restrooms and free hot showers. Roger L. reports, "Free showers and very clean bathrooms," making this a standout feature compared to more primitive options in the area.

Family activities: Enjoy playgrounds and recreational facilities near campsites. Many local campgrounds include family-friendly amenities beyond just camping. At Riley Creek, Nanette C. found "horseshoe pits, volleyball & basketball courts, as well as the playgrounds were all extremely inviting."

What you should know

Seasonal availability: Most campgrounds operate from May through September. The camping season is relatively short due to harsh winters. At Skookum Creek Campground, Henry H. found "a free DNR campground. A site doesn't cost a dime. However, each site has a nice fire ring, large picnic table, and loads of elbow room."

Reservation requirements: Many popular sites fill quickly, especially on summer weekends. Chelsea K. warns about Riley Creek: "Only some of their sites are reservable, others are walk up. We did not have reservations so had to join a lottery to get one of the walk up sites."

Road noise: Some campgrounds experience traffic sounds despite natural settings. Several campgrounds near major roads experience periodic noise. Todd B. notes about Priest River Campground: "It is very close to the highway so you hear the cars all day. Site 12 is as far away as you can get from it plus it has a great view so helps offset the road noise."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Select campgrounds with kid-friendly water features. Several locations offer designated swimming areas with varying depths. Nanette C. recommends Priest River: "Beach is so kid friendly for the little ones; this was the best part for us. Our 3 year old really gained some water confidence while here."

Day-use areas: Take advantage of amenities even at non-reserved campgrounds. Many locations offer picnic facilities and playgrounds open to all visitors. At Priest River, Douglas S. found "nice restrooms, a large amount of parking, soccer/baseball field, play equipment/swings, and a small beach with boat launch."

Activity planning: Coordinate campground schedules for organized recreation. Some campgrounds offer structured activities during peak season. Dan P. shares about Thousand Trails Little Diamond: "We were here camping over the fathers day weekend. it's a very nice campground with clean spots and clean restrooms despite being short-staffed. If you are camping with kids the spots closer to the playground equipment are perfect."

Tips from RVers

Hookup limitations: Verify utility connections before booking at dog friendly campgrounds near Newport. Many sites offer only partial hookups. At Thousand Trails Little Diamond, Buck L. notes: "Very few of the KOA campsites have sewer hook ups. There are dump sites available. There is also a mobile pumpout service available if you want to pay for it."

Site positioning: Check site layouts and accessibility details when reserving. Some campgrounds have unusual configurations that may affect comfort. Gary K. explains about Thousand Trails: "The sites share electric and water, no sewer and are positioned oddly they are on the off side and in front by the road. Some 30 and 50 amp just check the box."

Internet connectivity: Don't count on reliable WiFi at most area campgrounds. Cell service varies widely across the region. Buck L. warns: "At your campsite your internet must be purchased and 90% of the time it is unavailable. A complete waste of money."
