    3 Creeks Campground

    Quiet for the most part

I stayed at 3 Creeks for a week as a dry run with a new Class A motorhome. The sites were not too close together, so that is a plus. A lot of full time residents, but mostly a quiet in-the-woods location. They have a mini water park, so expect some playtime noises during operation hours. Full hookups with 50 amp service and friendly hosts. Pet friendly, though most people do not clean up after their fur children.

    R. Shaefer Heard Campground

    Great Lakeside Camping

This park is located on the southern end of West Point lake near the town of West Point, GA. This is a wonderful park with 117 sites all located water front or water view, the sites are equipped with water, 30 or 50 amp electrical, table and fire ring. For this trip we stayed in site 115 which was level and paved, there was also a concrete pad with picnic table and an additional dirt and gravel tent pad area. We brought a canoe which was launched direct from our site which made this very convenient for morning and evening paddle trips. We also had bicycles, the park has good paved roads that are great for low impact bike riding.

There was good over the air TV reception as well as Verizon cell service and LTE data coverage. There’s ample shopping for supplies within 3.5 miles of the park in the towns of West Point and LaGrange.

The only negative for this park is the bathroom. There are two bath houses provided and several toilet only facilities, all are functional but in need of renovation. As as others have said, the park gates lock at 10:00 PM and there is no gate code to allow access after hours.

This is a great COE park with sites that provide views seldom found, we stayed here in a 20’ travel trailer.

West Point Lake is a 29,000 acre lake with over 525 miles of shoreline that startles Georgia and Alabama and stretches from Franklin, GA to West Point GA.

    High Falls State Park Campground

    Beautiful

The park is gorgeous and well maintained. It’s a little tight in a place or two but we’re pulling a 40’ fifth wheel and had no problems. We stayed in spot 71 which was a pull through with large lot that was really nice. Fire pit, picnic table and grill as well. I’m uploading a set of maps. You definitely need them as the sites are marked nicely but the areas are not and it’s very confusing. Also if you use maps on a device make sure you add campground because there are a few other places you don’t want to go pulling a rig since the campground is in a state park. Great for hiking, biking, fishing etc. Plain on zero internet or cell coverage. I’m all about the camping adventure but I like to be able to contact the kids if needed. Overall great place.

    High Falls State Park Campground

    Falls

Went to High Falls State Park in January. site number 27. We stayed 8 nights There are two campgrounds- lakeside and River camping area. Lakeside is by High falls Lake and is closest to the falls. River camping is across the street we stayed in River camping area. Nice sites but open to neighbors. Sites included table, fire ring, lantern hook. Some sites are 30 amp some 50 amp and had some pull through sites. After the weekend we were one of only a few in the campground in January. Weather may change this time of year we had a lot of rain one day and freezing temperatures overnight but mostly it was good camping weather. Camp hosts were awesome!!! This park is not far off i-75. Dollar general was a few miles other than that not much around. Very easy hiking trail to waterfalls and several trails along Towaliga River, ruins of an old Mill. There is no swimming in falls or river. Afterr rain falls were flowing very fast. This park also has a swimming pool, mini golf, yurts, boat rentals all were closed in January. Bathhouses were well maintained and had laundry facilities. Phone and TV reception we're good at this park. 8 days was too much here I would recommend 4 to 5 days or as a stopover point but would definitely return here.

Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

    Great State park and camping

We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like. Sites pretty level and gravel. Concrete picnic table, fire ring and light pole with lots of room fir our dogs. Bathroom facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground. Playground but not opened at this time. Lots of hiking trails, pool, can rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake. Dog friendly. Close to Calloway Gardens and little town of Pine Mountain.

Convenient rest stop or long term stay

Guide to Sharpsburg

RV campgrounds near Sharpsburg, Georgia range from basic budget sites to more developed facilities with varying amenities. Located in west-central Georgia about 30 miles southwest of Atlanta, the area sits at approximately 1,000 feet elevation with mild winters and hot, humid summers. Camping options typically cluster along major transportation corridors including I-85 to the north and I-75 to the east.

What to do

Historical exploration: 25 miles southeast of Sharpsburg at Pine Mountain RV Resort, campers can visit FDR State Park and the Little White House. "Very close to Calloway Gardens, FDR State Park, and Animal Safari! Nice quiet and clean sites," reports camper Cari P.

Outdoor recreation: Multiple trails within 40 minutes of most campgrounds provide hiking and biking opportunities. The Beautiful Rock Campground, RV, and Music Park connects to bike trails. "My wife and I stayed at this campground with another couple who are friends of ours from Atlanta while bike packing parts of the Silver Comet Trail. We spent the whole day covering about 35 miles on our bikes with gear on the back."

Shopping and dining: Under 5 miles from many campgrounds. At Lone Oak RV Flower Farm, seasonal activities add unique options. "Visit in the month of April & May so you can pick strawberries & blueberries," notes reviewer Ashley F.

What campers like

Concrete pads: Full hookup sites at several locations make setup easier for larger rigs. Atlanta-Marietta RV Park gets positive reviews for its location and convenience despite limited amenities. "We've used this campground few times passing through. It's a great midway point for us. Friendly nice staff and after hours box for late arrivals," reports Jan M.

Pool facilities: Family-friendly water amenities available at select locations during summer months. Pine Mountain RV Resort offers "a really nice and well maintained pool, hot tub, and splash area for small kids. The RV sites near the pool are concrete pads and well spaced out."

Affordability: Monthly rates available at most parks for long-term stays. Ramsey RV Park offers reasonable rates for extended stays. "Full hook ups, salt h2o swimming pool, cable, bath house, camp fires allowed, pets allowed on leash, $700.00 / month. Older rv and m.home park (1967) and bath house is dated but clean, laundry facilities."

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: Some parks feature close quarters while others offer more room. "The sites are TINY. No campfires allowed. Close to everything which is a plus, but if you want to actually camp then find somewhere else," notes a reviewer about Atlanta-Marietta RV Park.

Last-minute availability: Several campgrounds keep spots open for travelers without reservations. At Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, "Everything was handled via text and email messages before I arrived. Once on-site, I never saw an employee or an office. Had I needed anything, I had been instructed to call/text Jonathan. He was sure prompt in replying before I arrived."

Ground conditions: Pavement quality varies across locations. "I gave this four stars instead of five because the pavement is so deteriorated that it is almost moon craters," reports a camper about Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, highlighting issues common to older RV parks in the region.

Tips for camping with families

Pool selection: Choose campgrounds with water features during summer months. At Pine Mountain RV Resort, "The campground is very clean and has a great pool area. The pool area has a kids pool and hot tub along with the regular inground pool."

Site location: Request spots away from highways to minimize noise disruption. A reviewer at Jones RV Park noted, "You are close to highway so you here some road noise but it's still pretty quiet."

Seasonal activities: Plan visits during spring for unique experiences. At Lone Oak RV Flower Farm, "Visit in the month of April & May so you can pick strawberries & blueberries," creating educational opportunities for children.

Tips from RVers

Check-in procedures: Contact campgrounds before arrival as some have unusual systems. At Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, "Everything was handled via text and email messages before I arrived. Once on-site, I never saw an employee or an office."

Site selection: Request concrete pad sites when available for easier leveling. Pine Mountain RV Resort offers "concrete pads and well spaced out" sites near their pool area.

Electrical capacity: Confirm amperage before booking if using air conditioning or multiple appliances. Some parks have limited electrical systems that may trip breakers when using multiple devices simultaneously.
