RangerIf you’re into birding, this is a great spot. The campground is located on West Point Lake, where bald eagles soar. Campsites on the water’s edge provides easy access for swimming, fishing and kayaking, but camping in the fall on the hill with a deck overlooking the lake provides beautiful views of the lake.

TravelerThe campground was wonderful! So many amenities. Air conditioned bathrooms. Shower pressure and temperatures spot on and clean. Lake beach was wonderful everyone was friendly. Hiking, paddle boats, canoeing, boat rentals, fishing pier, archery, putt putt, and a snow cone truck that came around in the evenings. What a treat. Will do again.
RangerThis park is located on the southern end of West Point lake near the town of West Point, GA. This is a wonderful park with 117 sites all located water front or water view, the sites are equipped with water, 30 or 50 amp electrical, table and fire ring. For this trip we stayed in site 115 which was level and paved, there was also a concrete pad with picnic table and an additional dirt and gravel tent pad area. We brought a canoe which was launched direct from our site which made this very convenient for morning and evening paddle trips. We also had bicycles, the park has good paved roads that are great for low impact bike riding.
There was good over the air TV reception as well as Verizon cell service and LTE data coverage. There’s ample shopping for supplies within 3.5 miles of the park in the towns of West Point and LaGrange.
The only negative for this park is the bathroom. There are two bath houses provided and several toilet only facilities, all are functional but in need of renovation. As as others have said, the park gates lock at 10:00 PM and there is no gate code to allow access after hours.
This is a great COE park with sites that provide views seldom found, we stayed here in a 20’ travel trailer.
ScoutMy family and I camp here often! West point lake is a great place to fish, swim, and yes even boat, but what we enjoy the most about this place is that you can fully enjoy water skiing, Jett skiing, but you can also enjoy a nice paddle in a kayak or canoe, it is never over crowded and it's numerous coves make for pretty safe swimming and shoreline fishing.
The campground is run by the Army Corp of engineers, and fairly well maintained. The sites are fairly large and vary from mostly shaded to full sun. All sights have access to the lake, but this campground also has a day use area with a beachy type area if you find your site to rocky, or mucky.
ScoutI called on Sunday afternoon and immediately connected to a young lady who assured me that a site was available. The loop is nicely designed, full hookups, passing your target on the left (better visibility). There are glamping tents for rent. Several hiking trails, including a waterfall trail are inside the gate checkpoint. The park is close to town, meaning abundance of food options and cheap gas (2.499) on June 6, 2025.
ScoutOn our trip to Cheaha State Park we stayed in the lower campground, which features very roomy RV sites, some with really nice views, and all with full hookups including power, water, and sewer. There is no cable or wifi available however, and cell service is pretty spotty. There is also an upper campground with RV sites in the park and separate tent and primitive camping sites available.
The lower campground is right next to Cheaha Lake, which is a small lake, but large enough for some kayaking and features a sandy beach swimming area and a nice playground (see video). There are also pavilions and picnic areas around the lake. There is a nature center by the lake that has some interesting nature exhibits and a few live animals to check out.
There are lots of great hiking trails, mostly toward the top of Mount Cheaha in the park itself, and there are several different overlooks with spectacular views. The main overlook has an easy boardwalk trail that leads to it from the parking area and is wheelchair accessible. There's also a pool, lodge, cabins, and a restaurant on the mountain in the park.
The main road that leads to the park and campgrounds has some pretty steep and long uphill and downhill sections. Nothing too crazy, but I would suggest that you make sure your tow vehicle can handle it without overheating the engine or transmission, especially in the heat of the summer.

GuideMy best friend and I camped for Mother's Day in 2017. We loved it. We were in the semi primitive area. Some sites were smaller than others and not all sites had flat spots to set up the tent but they are within walking distance to the bathroom and the pavilions. It was quiet and the staff were helpful. The only real downside are the showers. You have to buy tokens to use the showers and they're only open until (I believe) 6 p.m. The showers were pricey considering most places offer them for free. The pavilions are great! They're huge, have plenty of picnic tables, a fireplace on both sides and outlets. We set up our coffee pot and ate breakfast then rode around to explore. A few minutes drive from the park is a great hiking spot with 3 waterfalls. I'm looking forward to visiting again with my family.
