    Perry Ponderosa RV Park

    Safe, well kept campground

My husband and I choose to stay here when in the Macon area. Stayed 3+ months in lot 57, 2 weeks in lot 45 and 1 week in lot 14. Wonderful owners that live on-site. There are several full time campers but never any riffraff. Lots of room for dog's to walk and run their humans. Propane fill station, WiFi, laundry room, shower house, bathroom's and a small playground. Easily accessible right off the highway, level sites, 30 & 50 Amp, Water & Sewer and many pull through sites. A pool would make it 5 stars for me 😀

Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground

    One of the BEST!

We were back at HLC this past weekend and, as always, top-notch park! We have tent camped for several years but recently upgraded to a new (to us) pop up and we had a blast!

We camped at site 26 (one of the newer sites) and it had full hookup (our PUP does not have a bathroom but does have a galley). The site has electric (50 amp and 30 amp service) as well as free cable TV!!

The sites at HLC are well spaced and the bath houses are spotless!!

The park staff is amazing and the camp hosts are always cleaning up and are available if you need anything!

HLC is our go-to spot for a weekend getaway because of the above-mentioned reasons and it is close to home!!

Good overnight spot to get off the highway.

Easy pull-through level asphalt sites with full hookup. They have long term available. Pets are welcome.

    Claystone Park Campground

    Great campground to visit

I have lived in and around Bibb County, Georgia most of my life and I have always enjoyed going to Tobesofkee Recreation Parks. There were four parks but one was shut down (Flintrock Park). I believe the park was built back in the 60’s. Early morning on Mother’s Day of 2008 a tornado came through leaving destruction to all three parks. The campground bathhouse’s saved around 50 people that were camping when the tornado came ripping through destroying campers, cars and trees. The county has rebuilt the three parks and each one offers a little something different. It’s pretty great place in my opinion.

Claystone Park: Lake Tobesofkee access, large beach, playground, water sports, boat ramps, fishing, disc golf, several small pavilions, one large enclosed pavilion, numerous picnic tables throughout the park and camping. The campground has 45 sites, some tents, back-ups and pull through. Not sure about tents sites but all camper sites have 20/30/50 amp service, water and poor cable service. There are a few sites with sewer. The campground does have a nice bathhouse with coin operated laundry.

Sandy Beach Park: Lake Tobesofkee access, large beach, water sports, fishing, several small pavilions, one large open pavilion, numerous picnic tables throughout the park and a water park.

Arrowhead Park: Lake Tobesofkee access, small beach, water sports, fishing, several small pavilions, one large open pavilion, numerous picnic tables throughout the park, mountain bike trail, playground, boat ramps and camping. The campground has 58 sites, some tents, back-ups and pull through. Not sure about tents sites but all camper sites have 20/30/50 amp service and water; no cable. There are a few sites with sewer. The campground does have two nice bathhouse with coin operated laundry.

    High Falls State Park Campground

    Beautiful

The park is gorgeous and well maintained. It’s a little tight in a place or two but we’re pulling a 40’ fifth wheel and had no problems. We stayed in spot 71 which was a pull through with large lot that was really nice. Fire pit, picnic table and grill as well. I’m uploading a set of maps. You definitely need them as the sites are marked nicely but the areas are not and it’s very confusing. Also if you use maps on a device make sure you add campground because there are a few other places you don’t want to go pulling a rig since the campground is in a state park. Great for hiking, biking, fishing etc. Plain on zero internet or cell coverage. I’m all about the camping adventure but I like to be able to contact the kids if needed. Overall great place.

    High Falls State Park Campground

    Falls

Went to High Falls State Park in January. site number 27. We stayed 8 nights There are two campgrounds- lakeside and River camping area. Lakeside is by High falls Lake and is closest to the falls. River camping is across the street we stayed in River camping area. Nice sites but open to neighbors. Sites included table, fire ring, lantern hook. Some sites are 30 amp some 50 amp and had some pull through sites. After the weekend we were one of only a few in the campground in January. Weather may change this time of year we had a lot of rain one day and freezing temperatures overnight but mostly it was good camping weather. Camp hosts were awesome!!! This park is not far off i-75. Dollar general was a few miles other than that not much around. Very easy hiking trail to waterfalls and several trails along Towaliga River, ruins of an old Mill. There is no swimming in falls or river. Afterr rain falls were flowing very fast. This park also has a swimming pool, mini golf, yurts, boat rentals all were closed in January. Bathhouses were well maintained and had laundry facilities. Phone and TV reception we're good at this park. 8 days was too much here I would recommend 4 to 5 days or as a stopover point but would definitely return here.

    Big Country Camping

    Peaceful, Quiet, Large Campsites

Very nice owners. Very quiet and peaceful location. I had a full hookup site. Owners helped me get situated. Loaned me a water hose.  Felt very safe here. Beautiful sunrise. Excellent cell signal which is important since I work remotely from my camper.

    Al Sihah Shrine Park

    Quiet, Clean, Well Maintained

This is the nicest place to stay in the Macon area. I first checked out Safe Haven, and it was not a nice place. This place is run by the Shriners and apparently proceeds from the park go to support the children’s hospital. The campground area is huge with different site areas– short term, long term, and long-long term. I stayed one night in the short term area. There is a pond and a large event center with a commercial kitchen. Oddly, there are no bathrooms that I could find in the building. There are no bathrooms or showers anywhere in the park. It was designed for self-contained units. There are concrete pads with full hookups at each of the short terms sites but they are way too close together. I gave it a four but debated about a three because of site spacing and the lack of bathrooms/showers.

Guide to Gray

RV sites near Gray, Georgia offer travelers convenient access to Middle Georgia's rolling countryside with elevations ranging between 400-600 feet. The region experiences mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures and hot, humid summers that regularly exceed 90°F. Most campgrounds in the area remain open year-round with gravel pads designed for stability during the region's frequent summer thunderstorms.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Scenic Mountain RV Park in Milledgeville features stocked fishing ponds where campers can fish without a license. "There is a little bit of fishing. We hiked the trails around the ponds and caught a few bass," notes one visitor who stayed at Scenic Mountain RV Park.

Historic explorations: Several campgrounds provide convenient access to Milledgeville's historic district with its antebellum architecture. "We were on our own little adventure to see ghosts! We were trying to find a place that was close to the old state mental hospital and we came across this little gem of a place," reports a camper who used Scenic Mountain RV Park as their base.

Family entertainment centers: The area offers easy access to entertainment complexes. Savage Creek RV Park provides a central location for regional attractions. "Nice NEW park in middle GA that has large spots, a dog park, and some small trails to walk," mentions one reviewer about this newer camping option.

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Multiple campgrounds receive high marks for cleanliness. At Twin Oaks RV Park, campers appreciate the attention to detail: "The showers were spotless. We will be visiting Twin Oaks again." Another visitor notes, "The bathrooms are very clean. Not a destination but an excellent place to stop."

Dog-friendly amenities: Many camping spots around Gray accommodate pets with specialized facilities. "They have a fenced in dog area which was really nice for those of us traveling with pets," writes one Twin Oaks visitor. Scenic Mountain RV Park offers "a small dog park with agility equipment," according to another review.

Helpful staff: Campground hosts throughout the region receive consistent praise. "The staff at this park is FANTASTIC!" exclaims one visitor to Twin Oaks. At Warthen RV Park, "The camping host (Miss Mary and Sophie) were very nice, welcoming, and even ran into town to get ice for them after a long day of driving."

What you should know

Seasonality considerations: Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F from June through August, making spring and fall more comfortable for outdoor activities. "We stayed in January so the weather was on the chill side. I did not notice a lot of trees though for shade when the temperature does rise," notes one Scenic Mountain RV Park camper.

Site spacing varies: Some campgrounds offer more privacy than others. At Safe Haven RV Park near Macon, "There's a little bit of road noise when youre outside as to be expected with being so close, however theres just enough trees and scenery to make it feel a little more like nature compared to many of the other parks along 75."

Reservation requirements: Several smaller campgrounds fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. 4 County RV Park & Campground offers only 21 sites total, making advance planning essential for these limited spaces. Perry Ponderosa RV Park uses traditional booking methods: "They are very old-school with the reservation method and only accepted cash or checks when we stayed."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Children benefit from dedicated play areas at several campgrounds. At Twin Oaks, "Our 1, 3 and 5 year Olds loved the playground. We were the only ones on it and it is in great shape," shares one family.

Swimming options: Fair Harbor RV Park offers additional recreation with "a pretty fountain in the little lake just for fun," according to one reviewer. Other parks like Interstate RV Park feature pools, though with limited hours: "Very clean pool but closes at 8pm with no lights."

Safety considerations: Most campgrounds maintain secure environments. One long-term visitor to Perry Ponderosa RV Park notes, "Safe, well kept campground... There are several full time campers but never any riffraff. Lots of room for dog's to walk and run their humans."

Tips from RVers

Leveling conditions: Campgrounds vary in site preparation. A Twin Oaks visitor reports, "My site was only off level by 1 inch left to right so leveling and stabilizing were a breeze! Hard packed gravel and well maintained grass medians between sites."

Electrical hookups: RV parks in the area generally offer both 30 and 50 amp service. At Perry Ponderosa RV Park, one camper notes, "I did have some power issues on the 30amp, but worked fine on the 50 with my adapter."

Connectivity concerns: Internet access varies significantly between campgrounds. At Twin Oaks RV Park, "Wi-Fi is better than average near office, at least while others are not trying to stream video or something else bandwidth hungry."
