Best RV Parks & Resorts near Augusta, GA

Heritage RV Park in Augusta provides full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections on level gravel pads. The park accommodates big rigs with pull-through and back-in options, though sites are positioned relatively close together. "The sites are level and we had no problem fitting our RV and tow car in a back-in site," noted one visitor, mentioning the paved patios and picnic tables available at each site. Barnyard RV Park in Lexington offers similar amenities with full hookups and spacious pull-through sites that can handle larger motorhomes, while Boss RV Park in Wrens features level gravel sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer hookups suitable for extended stays.

Most RV parks in the Augusta area remain open year-round, with seasonal rate variations during Masters Tournament weeks when availability becomes extremely limited. Cell service varies significantly between parks, with stronger signals closer to Augusta proper and weaker coverage at lakeside locations. Dump stations are available at most parks, though some like Heritage RV Park lack bathroom facilities, requiring self-contained RVs. Pet policies differ between locations—most allow pets with standard leash requirements, but some impose breed or size restrictions. Several reviews mention limited shade at newer parks, making summer camping potentially uncomfortable without adequate air conditioning capacity. Propane refill services are scarce within the immediate area, requiring advance planning for longer stays.

    Mistletoe State Park Campground

Gorgeous and Tranquil in the Woods

This place was so perfect and our first camping experience with our new 40 foot RV! Check-in was easy and they even let us change to a pull-through site last minute. The grounds were sooooo gorgeous! Trees everywhere. Walking trails. And of course the lake. We went during fall colors so it was really magical.

PROS: Clean restrooms, spacious RV sites (they felt very private), many bathhouses within walking distance, friendly staff, nice gift shop

CONS: wet firewood and of course you had to buy from them, playground very small- made more for toddlers/preschool age, less than 5 years old, long walk to the dumpsters

Petersburg - J Strom Thurmond Lake

    Beautiful campsites

This campground has magnificent views, spacious sites, picnic tables, firepits, power (30 and 50 amp) and water hookups, dump station, bathrooms, and groomed swimming area.

The site (21) was very easy to pull through and had a wonderful view of the lake. I had to try to see my neighbors at the next site because the foliage separated the sites well. I saw a grounds person actively maintaining the empty sites which explains how well kept this campground is. The access roads are well kept.

Winfield - J Strom Thurmond Lake

    Very nice place !

This place has some great sites. Our site was #25. It was a pull through with 30 and 50 amp plugs. It’s a level lot with a grill, fire ring, picnic table and another small table. It’s right on the lake. There is a retaining wall at the water so it’s about a 3” step to the water. We plan to bring a sep ladder next time. Beautiful place to spend your time camping.

    Hamilton Branch State Park Campground

Great spacious site on the water, lots of privacy

We arrived at last light, and I am glad that we had daylight while we backed in. Lovely site, spacious. Sites 98 & 99  T off the connector road. Layout it such that your RV is parallel to the road, overlooking the water which is 80- 100 feet away. Your neighbors are a fair distance away, but your head and tail of the RV points to them- so once inside you're not even aware of them. We are 30 foot fifth wheel with F250, and i imagine the back-in would have been more challenging if 99 was occupied.  Nice family oriented park. Water and electric all good, dump station on way out.

Did not use facilities, but apparently showers and toilets are a little drive away.

Wood: We drove out of the park, turned left and found an honor-system wood kiosk on parallel road - just over the railroad tracks. $5 for a small bundle, but it was worth it to us.

    Leveling was not an issue.

Hosts keep site nice and clean,

Data: Visible worked great (25 mbs up & down, so no need to break out hotspots, Starlink etc

    Heritage RV Park

Nice Sites for a Good Price

This is a clean well-cared RV park that is a nice place to stay but a bit of a no- frills park. We were busy exploring the town so it was really just a place to park our RV and the fact that there were not many amenities was fine with us. The park is close to I-20 and I-520 so there is easy on/off and it is a great place for an overnight if you are just traveling thru. At $35/night with full hook-up, wifi, paved patio this was a pretty good bargain.

The person who checked us in was nice and helpful and the process was speedy. All the roads are wide and easy to navigate. The sites are level and we had no problem fitting our RV and tow car in a back-in site. Our driveway was gravel/sand but the patio was paved with a picnic table. There is no cable but there is a clear view to the sky if you have satellite and we were able to receive numerous television channels with our antenna. Note that there are no restrooms or laundry. As with many RV parks, the sites are close together and since this is a fairly new park there are no large shade trees. Note: that there are no fire pits and campfires allowed.

Numerous stores and restaurants are nearby and there is lots to do in Augusta.  There is a nice walking path by the canal downtown where you may see some urban wildlife. Would highly recommend visiting the U.S Army Signal Corps Museum at Fort Gordon and the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area Interpretive Center downtown. We also did a narrated canal boat tour which was very informative and entertaining. Both were very interesting!

    Boss RV Park

    A very nice campground

The sites are mostly gravel with areas of dirt, but mine was level. I was near the bath house and laundry which were both clean and well maintained. The population looks like a mix of mostly long-term residents, with a few mid to short-term. It is a full hookup facility, and all my connections worked well.

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Amazing Find!

We stayed over on our way to Charleston, SC. We booked it online. We had no hookeups, but water and a dump station is available. There are hiking trails, canoeing, and fishing. The ranger was super friendly and they are pet friendly. We had to switch sites when we arrived due to a space issue. We have a 32’ RV and the site stated a max of 35’ but there was a tent pad that would have interfered with us being level. We were allowed to switch with no issues.

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Canoeing Getaway

It is a very small campground. Narrow winding dirt road to small campsites. Bathhouse in the center. Check out the site pictures on their website, they are accurate. We only have a 17 foot camper and it still felt small. We stayed on site 16 which was nice and quiet. Site 18 would have been easier to back in to with the same amount of privacy. We got there early and were able to go right to our site. There were only 4 other campers there and the hosts. The bathhouse was older and could have been cleaner but it was okay. Most importantly it was warm. Our first night it got down to 27 and the water at the hose bib froze but once the sun came up it was fine. Less than 30 minutes to downtown Aiken. We loved the town and it was very pet friendly. Hopelands Gardens was beautiful, free and pet friendly. Had some good beer at Aiken Brewing Company and enjoyed all the shops downtown. We did go into Augusta and that was another 30 minutes from downtown Aiken. We will definitely go back in the warmer months to see some steeplechase horse racing and training, canoe and kayak the Edisto River and go hiking in Hitchcock Woods. There are quite a few museums we did not get to that would be nice to visit as well. I would definitely go back.

Guide to Augusta

Augusta area RV parks offer diverse camping experiences within central Georgia's Piedmont region. Positioned near the Savannah River at around 136 feet elevation, Augusta experiences humid summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 90°F between June and September. Most campgrounds remain open year-round with seasonal rate variations, particularly during Masters Tournament weeks when advance reservations are essential.

What to do

Walking trails nearby: Pointes West Army Resort offers access to Clarks Hill Lake with prime water views. "Sites L, M, and N are all on a little peninsula that sticks out into Clarks Hill Lake, and are our personal favorites," notes Jason L., highlighting the peaceful waterfront camping options.

Flea market shopping: Campers staying at Barnyard RV Park can browse the adjacent flea market. Dallas W. mentions, "Located behind the flea market... Large pull through sites... Good weekly deals." The market provides convenient shopping without needing to drive elsewhere.

Military history: Fort Jackson is accessible from multiple area campgrounds. Sean N. from Barnyard RV Park states, "Stayed here for our sons basic training graduation. Perfect location. Far enough away from base but close enough to everything."

What campers like

Quiet surroundings: Warthen RV Park receives praise for its peaceful atmosphere. Maryam W. shares, "The serenity of the area and huge fields and beautiful trees. The air is just different. I find great peace here." The park features 59 sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp service.

Clean facilities: Plum Branch RV Park maintains well-kept facilities near Lake Thurmond. Robin notes, "This campground is very quiet and right near the water. I enjoyed it and would stay again." The park offers 45 sites with water and electric hookups.

Level sites: Most Augusta RV parks feature level sites that require minimal setup. Kevin H. at Plum Branch RV Park observed, "Still being upgraded, so newish pad was still soft but pretty level," though he noted some infrastructure quirks like elevated sewer pipes and sideways-hanging surge suppressors.

What you should know

Variable cell service: Cell coverage varies significantly between parks. Kevin H. documented specific speeds at Plum Branch RV Park: "Cricket: 7.98dn, 0.84up, ATT: 27.69, 0.3 up, Visible: 7.2dn, 1.2up, Verizon: 44.9dn, 1.88 up, T-mobile mifi: no 4G nor 5G service."

Site surface considerations: Many parks feature gravel or sand surfaces rather than concrete pads. At Boss RV Park, Charlie B. notes, "The sites are mostly gravel with areas of dirt, but mine was level."

Seasonal availability: COVID-19 restrictions affected some parks temporarily. Scott M. reported about Pointes West Army Resort: "As of 3 August 2020, Primitive Camping and Semi-Hookup (Electric Only) Camping areas are closed... RV Camping is open, for local traffic only. RVs must contain a restroom. No visitors."

Tips for camping with families

Limited entertainment options: Several parks lack dedicated children's areas. E.M. notes about Heritage RV Park, "There is nothing for kids to do here so be advised the gravel becomes a toy! It was great for a night stay."

Pest prevention: Summer camping requires ant protection measures. Scott M. warns about Pointes West Army Resort: "Ants can be a huge problem though during the summer." Pack ant spray or barriers if visiting between May and September.

Waterfront activities: Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park offers a peaceful environment for families. Bobbie S. shares, "If you walk around the park four times, you have walked a mile," providing a convenient exercise metric for families tracking activity levels.

Tips from RVers

Fire restrictions: Several Augusta area RV parks prohibit campfires, requiring alternative cooking methods. Verify fire policies before arrival as restrictions vary between parks.

Site spacing considerations: Most Augusta RV parks feature relatively close sites. Judy W. from Pointes West Army Resort advises, "We were very close to neighbors. They were all in a row so if you open your curtains others can see you."

Location selection: Augusta RV parks serve different purposes based on stay length. Tammy K. from Boss RV Park suggests, "Very long FHU site for overnight stay at $35 can't be beat. Great roads to get here too," highlighting the value for transit stops versus extended stays.
