Yampa River Headquarters Campground — Yampa River

    Great state park!

Stayed 3 nights in early September in A loop with 30A service. Each sight had a covered picnic table where I stashed the bikes from the elements. Water spigots provide a sight for container water but not RV hook-up. A bike/walking trail of about 1.1 miles through the trees and near the river was very nice, doing several loops. My brother caught a 16" rainbow which provided supper one night. The grounds are well cared for and sights are nicely spaced. This was our second stay here in 13 months. We will return!

    Maybell Park

Good for a last resort stop but that's it.

This is a great small town overnight stop. It is on the side of the road in the last town before you hit no mans land heading west. There is power for RV’s and picnic tables. There is also a water refill and a park for kids to play. It is the last place to stop for water or dumping after steamboat springs.

There are 20 spots open for tent or rv camping. The park is maintained but not manned on site, and payment was an envelope (honor) system based on what you used- electric, dump, shower, etc.$20 a night with electricity and$15 without.$3 for showers.$5 dump station use. Open 24/7 year-round. No reservations needed. Sites are first-come, first-served.

    Steamboat Springs KOA

On the Yampa and close to the 'Boat

We've stayed at the Steamboat Springs KOA multiple times over the past couple years for many reasons. It's close enough to downtown Steamboat, right on the Yampa, and has plenty of things to do for the whole family. There is a small pool, updated miniature golf course, trike rentals and the Yampa running through the campground.

I love the ability to ride into town to the mountain bike trails on Emerald Mountain. On your way back from the amazing singletrack, be sure to stop at Taco Cabo to grab to-go grub and head down the road to Storm Peak Brewing for a cold barley pop with your amazing takeout.

Some of the RV spots are close to each other, but the park is quiet overall. Across the bridge over the Yampa River, there are plenty of tent spots. The facilities are clean and there are plenty of showers to keep all campers clean.

    Basic amenities with full hookups

Not the greatest place but it was quiet and had full hookups for $50 a night (cheaper than most in CO). Stayed for 5 nights on vacation to ride the mountain bike trails and hike. Was convenient but would consider staying elsewhere in the future.

Due to COVID, the bathrooms and showers were closed. Not a big deal for us as our camper served us well.

    Great Local Camp

Very well maintained and clean. Leroy, the owner lives there onsite. A mix of primitive and full hookup sites are available and even a 4 room motel. Very quiet and calm when we stayed in June. Easy highway access, but virtually no cell service with Verizon. The campground provided WiFi was decent. Leroy runs a tight ship at the camp, but it’s worth it. I would stay again when back in the area.

Great spot for a long weekend

Great spot for car camping in Colorado except its distance from Denver. It’s a trek! Takes at least 4 hours (that’s if you’re lucky). Lots to do. Great fishing, beautiful hiking trails to a water fall, and trails for the RZR near by.

    Steamboat Springs KOA

Just a minute outside of Steamboat

Right outside of Steamboat Springs is Steamboat KOA. This campground has so many perks. Not only is there a beautiful Mountain View but it also has the Yampa river running through it. It has Rv sites, cute cabins, and tent sites. The Rv sites are separated in areas by what you need(electric, water, sewage). The RV sites each have picnic tables and a fire ring. There are regular cabins and deluxe ones which both include tables and fire rings. The tent area is located across the river and is so peaceful. There is a general store, putt putt, propane fill, a small dog run, bikes for rent, swimming in season and the city bus comes to take you to town for free. Although it is located right off the road, it was still peaceful and I felt safe. My favorite part about this campground is the fact you can stand on the bridge or sit by the Yampa River and enjoy the beauty and sounds, and watching people fly fish.

    A Secret Gem!!

We hit this place coming from the northern Colorado border with Wyoming on a Sunday night. I've grown up and camped in Colorado my whole life, this place was 10/10, and one of my favorite spots ever! With hiking, biking, and fishing, you could spend some time here!

    Eagle Soaring RV Park

Nice place to stay when visiting the area

We stayed at Eagle Soaring campground for three nights. We were in our class C while slowly making our way across the country. We had no problems getting a spot here. Sites are gravel for the RV, very level, and very well maintained. All sites are pull through. Hookups are in very good condition. Each site had a narrow grassy area with trees. Tables and fire pits were not available at the campsite. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

There were not a lot of amenities. There was a large meadow separating the campground from the road. Seating areas with fire pits were available by the meadow.  Showers and laundry are not available.

Steamboat Springs is just a few miles down the road. There are many indoor and outdoor activities to do in the area.

The campground is conveniently located a few miles off the highway. The road noise is distant and we did not notice at all in the RV.

We had 2 bar LTE with Verizon. Our hotspot was usable and performed very well. The campground wifi was average at best.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this campground.  The trees and meadow helped create a relaxing place to stay.  We will stay again when traveling this way.

Good RV sites, but not private at all

This campground has nice, easy to access RV sites. The sites have power hookups, picnic tables with shade structures, and grills. The downside is there is minimal privacy due to closely spaced sites and minimal vegetation. The sites are also somewhat expensive, requiring both a reservation fee and a state park access fee. You can walk to the river easily, but the sites are not on the river.

    Nice KOA Campground

This is a nice and typical KOA. The sites were pretty close together which is the norm for a KOA. The location was great for us. Everything was clean. Our site was next to railroad track but I never saw a train. The owners were very friendly and kind.

    Spacious, Clean, Pretty

Office people are very friendly. Staff escorted me to the site and was very helpful. The grounds are pretty and well kept and clean. Showers were spotlessly cleaned. The river runs right next to the campground.
There is a bus that comes right into the campground and will take you into downtown Steamboat Springs, and it is a free service. It runs until 1130pm. Site 74 was perfectly flat and needed no leveling. Plenty of room for my 30' trailer. I will be returning to this place!

Dutch Hill Campground — Steamboat Lake State Park

A hidden gem in Northern Colorado

My family stumbled on to this campground while trying to find overnight accommodations between the Sand Dunes NP and Yellowstone's West Gate. We stayed at a KOA the night before and we were heading to another KOA outside YNP and oh boy did I love this site! Coming from someone who had never camped at the time, KOAs seemed a logical first step. This was a campground that made me want to truly embrace the park system that our country has done so well with.

The first thing you can say about staying anywhere in the Rockies is that your views are impressive. We faced our tent to take advantage of the view out of our front door. We got in a bit late, but still made a very interesting Ranger led presentation at the amphitheater regarding deer and elk.

I woke up to views of the mountains, an abundance of wildflowers up to my shoulders, and a brief walk to watch the lake's natural beauty unfold while sipping on some coffee.

I wish I could have stayed longer and so will you.

Dutch Hill Campground — Steamboat Lake State Park

    Something for everyone!

Steamboat Lake State Park has something for everyone. There are hookup sites and no amenity sites. For the non hookup sites there are water spigots throughout the campground and vault toilets (they were clean but stinky). At the marina loop there is a dump station, coin laundry, flush toilets and coin showers. Various privacy depending on where which site you're in as well as views. Some sites back up to the road and some have great views of the lake. This is a reservation only campground. If you drive in and find an un-reserved site you can take it for the night but need to reserve online for subsequent nights. Hiking nearby is AMAZING and there is mountain biking and activities in Steamboat Springs.

    Maybell Park

Good place to park, more expensive than advertised.

This is a pet friendly campground around a square park right on 40. They have electric and non electric sites, but the majority were electric (and cost more). This was advertised $15 - $20 but the prices online were $38.50 for an electric site for one night (granted, it was a Saturday in August). There were not pet fees. There were lots of spaces available when we visited.

There is no office here, you pay for your rental online or on an iPad in the kiosk (if working). There is WiFi at the kiosk, but it does not reach many of the campsites well.

Sites are close together but level. Felt safe and it was quiet at night save for occasional passing cars. No fire pits or individual picnic tables, but there is a shared covered picnic area.

Clean bathrooms. Showers were more of a 2.5/5. Not super clean and water smelled rusty. Water from sink was fine though.

Morning became very busy with travelers stopping to use the public restrooms, which may help you decide where to park.

    Steamboat Springs KOA

    Good location

We stayed here in site # 13 we booked late & there were only a few spots left. The river running through the campground was so refreshing after a day at the Balloon Rodeo & a stop at the art in the park event, once we got back to the KOA we were so hot we took our chairs & sat them in the middle of the river & chilled. What a nice way to relax. The pool was busy & the river was empty.

Our site had electric and water I believe, and a view of this little pond. They have a bus that is free that will drop you in town. When we went to the Balloon Rodeo they didn't run early enough so we drove to a big parking lot & took a bus from there to Eagle Lake. It was hot once the sun came up but well worth. it. The balloons all go up & then they come down & dip their buckets in the lake & land around the lake.

The river runs through town so you can watch people tube by. We ate at Taco Cabo, great food.

    Big Creek Lakes Campground

Beautiful, remote gem in the Rockies

We camped here July 25th-29th, 2018 with our 5 children (4-13) in our pop up camper.

First thing to know is this is a remote area of CO at 9,000+ ft. elevation. It is also an area that has been affected by wildfire (2016). It is still absolutely gorgeous!

Worst part—> You will have to travel down a gravel/dirt road for ~30 miles to get to the lake and campground. Sections of it are TERRIBLY washboarded. Plan for over an hour to navigate through. You will be rewarded at the end!

There is zero cell service (we have Sprint and Verizon), no electric/water/sewer hook ups or bathhouses. There are pit toilets throughout the campground that appeared to be very well maintained and cleaned often. There are also numerous water spigots throughout with potable water.

The sites are all HUGE, almost all are pull through and many offer beautiful lake views with trails directly from your campsite to the water. We were in site 14. It did not have a water view, but was still amazing. All sites are gravel and appear to be fairly level. Most have pine trees, boulders and other natural landscaping that adds to the beauty of the campground. Very nice metal fire pits and sturdy, large picnic tables (though many are slightly bowed) were present at each site we saw. Bear proof dumpsters were easily accessible.

We had hundreds of chipmunks visit us each day to clean up the kids’ crumbs. We also saw antelope and deer on the drive in and several moose, elk and a coyote off the highway heading to RMNP.

There are two trailheads in the campground, lots of areas to fish, a boat dock and horse corral.

This was our very first run at dry camping. We were 10 hours from home with 5 kids! We may be crazy, but lots of memories were made and we are calling this trip a big success!

This campground was only $10/night and a true hidden gem in the Rockies. (Those roads though...ugh!)

    Hog Park Campground

    Nice campground, lousy road

Nice campground with great views of the lake. Checked out the site we were signed up for (last one available} before bringing up the rv. Site was very narrow & steep (definitely not level) and filled with large rocks that would have made leveling very difficult. Road in was gravel with washboards in the curves. Last few miles in were very rough. We cancelled the reservation & stayed elsewhere.

    Teton Reservoir Campground - CLOSED

Serene views of the reservoir and landscape

There are probably 7 or 8 spots with picnic tables. Most have fire rings and a grill but not all. Bathrooms within walking distance. Dry and bare ground scape so no wood scavenging to be done here. Bring in firewood for sure! Also wouldn’t recommend tent camping as the ground is gravel with lots of rocks of various sizes! Easy road in so could bring a trailer or RV of any size. Pretty views. Only one other group here so quiet and lots of space
