    Glenwood Canyon Resort

    Very small riverside sites

Honestly, we were a little bit disappointed with our stay. Stayed in one of the riverside sites, thought they views and facilities were worth the expensive rate in summer. However, all picnic tables were removed (I assume) in order to make room for more sites. Meaning that you had nowhere to sit and eat - and you practically were sitting in your neighbor’s site when using the fire pit. The views of the river and the mountains were truly great, however, mostly masked by looking into the side of the rigs on either site. We had a 30ft RV and there was not much place to navigate - I would not recommend for rigs larger than that. Showers and bathrooms were ok, but could use an update (eg for more privacy - you step directly from the shower into the common area to dress/undress). Too bad the restaurant was closed to lack of staff - that would have been a great add-on. The staff was very friendly!

White River National Forest Heaton Bay Campground

    Heaton Bay

Well maintained campsite with moderate privacy. It is a walk on site but parking is right by the site so not far to haul stuff at all. There are trees all around the site but there is an opening/walkway to the neighboring campsite so not 100% private No one on the other side of site so there is an opening in trees that makes for a perfect hammock/ hang out spot which also provides more shade & privacy.

Bear locker, fire pit and picnic table. Bathrooms nice & well maintained. Close to stores and restaurants in case you need anything. Right on lake Dillon so paddle boarding and trials close by too.

    Glenwood Canyon Resort

    Nice location

Tent sites. Small cabins and water/electric RV sites(<35’) are along the river. You do have to hike up a short hill to get to the bathroom/showers. Full hookup sites are on top of hill w/no river views. WiFi with a few. Excellent Verizon signal. Very convenient to Glenwood Springs

White River National Forest Heaton Bay Campground

    Great Campground

This is a well maintained campground. There is water available on every loop. There is electricity and water available at each site on loop A. The driveways and streets are paved. There are walking and bike riding trails everywhere. The town of Frisco is under a 10 minute drive with great grocery stores. Most sites have a fire ring and picnic tables along with bear proff storage containers. Heaton Bay is quiet and lovely. Firewood is for sale at the local grocery stores. There is really something for everyone. We will definitely return when back in this part of the country. Have fun and safe travels.

    Elk Creek Campground

Beautiful, serene camping along creek (with new owners)

Not your typical asphalt RV parking lot. Rarely can you find a full hookup site in a natural setting along a roaring creek. The park has a variety of accommodations with full hookup sites, a “tent” section with electricity (lovely for small RVS as well) and log cabins. Many of the sites are along the creek as it meanders through the camp.

Location is great as well. Easy drive from I-70 but far enough to be out of town. Also a quick drive into Glenwood Springs.

New owners purchased park in April 2021 and are improving facilities while maintaining the natural feel. Check-in was easy even without reservations. The new owners are very friendly and welcoming.

    Kebler Corner

    Would happily visit again!

We stayed in a camper van over a busy holiday and loved it! We were hoping for a peaceful getaway for us and our dog and found it at Kebler. Yes, some of the spaces are close together but everyone there made it work well. The angled spots and strategic landscaping help too. Plenty of grassy common areas to stretch your legs and your pup’s (on leash), so much so we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything by not being parked with the big coaches along the river. Even better since the large river spots had little/no natural shade (most seemed to have their own awnings that our van didn’t so no worries there I think for them). The tent spots were in a different area on the other side of the property a little away from the busier parts. They also had less shade but had level pads and but seemed closer to the bridge (and hiking). The community vibe was respectful and friendly and it was lovely to stroll about and enjoy it all. Families were out and about, playing with their children and trying different things to do. There was a little playground and some activities in a covered space like velcro axe throwing and corn hole. There were soccer goals set up at one of the grassy areas too. There was also a frisbee golf course, hammocks and picnic tables scattered around the property. A sign by the bathrooms invited camp guests to go gentle group hike if you meet at the bridge at the posted time in the morning. The general store was open during the day and had more than I expected (came for stickers and snacks, left with a game of Bananagrams and more). There wasn’t cell service but wifi worked well for what we needed. The bathrooms were clean and the water was warm. On a busy weekend you might need to use the portable toilets near the tent sites if the regular ones are occupied at a busy time. In the future, splitting the shower and toilet facilities might help with that long term, but I am not sure how hard (and expensive) that is to do in places that are tucked away into the mountains like this. We did use the coin laundry and that worked well. At the time of our visit it was $2 for the washer and $3.50 for the dryer. There was a variety of cute cabins for rent with a good range in size and cost - and some have own their bathroom and even little patio spaces. The hosts and staff were friendly and helpful, even doing trash pickup in the morning if you left it out at a certain time by your site. Kebler is in a beautiful setting, has thoughtfully-designed spaces and is carefully maintained. We would definitely come back - hopefully in a camper van / travel trailer or even just to stay in one of the cabins.

    Arrowhead Point Resort

    Great campground!

This campground is right off the road and easy to find. They had RV sites in the front of the camp and tent sites up the road. We had showers and laundry, general store and wood for sale. Our site was very nice with lots of room. We had a picnic table and a fire pit in the site. There were a few portable bathrooms that were super clean available for night time runs.

    Great views of the mountains!

    Glenwood Canyon Resort

    Camping on the Colorado River

At Glenwood Canyon Resort you get to camp right on the Colorado River in a beautiful canyon but its definitely the most expensive tent camping I've ever paid for. Amenities are taken care of from the store at the check in station to the bar and grill that's on site. It has an awesome deck with a view of the canyon but I didn't get to enjoy it. When we checked in we were told it was pet friendly but when we went the bar tender told us our dogs weren't allowed and didn't seem happy to be there, so I had to go back to the campsite and eat and drink by myself. It's okay though because when my wife came back she said the food wasn't that great and they had no craft beer on tap. Aside from all that, the number of outdoor activities and place to see around here are endless, whitewater rafting, kayaking, skiing, mountain biking, climbing, hang gliding, disc golf, etc.......are all within a short car or bike ride and that's were all 3 stars are earned. Definitely worth it if your just passing through but there are many options around here if your staying for some time.

    Tiger Run RV Resort

Full Service Glamping close to Breck

Let's be clear - this is not camping. This is renting a driveway with access to power, water, sewer, internet, and cable. It is EXPENSIVE. It's also the only place near Breckenridge that offers all of these amenities.

The clubhouse offers a heated pool and hot tub, arcade, business center, locker rooms, laundry ($2 per wash / $1.75 to dry), and owners lounge. There are tennis/pickleball courts and a community fire pit in the center of the resort that hosted movie night during our stay.

No complaints about this place other than the fact that no one answered the phone at the office during our stay. The good news is that they email the gate code and wifi password ahead of time, so we were able to find our way to the site on our own.

Guide to Meredith

Cabin options near Meredith, Colorado provide access to high-altitude recreation at elevations ranging from 8,500 to 10,200 feet. Winter temperatures often drop below freezing, with summer highs rarely exceeding 80°F, making cabin accommodations particularly valuable during colder months. Most cabins in this region are situated within forest service or state park lands that receive significant snowfall from November through April.

What to do

Fishing at mountain lakes: Sylvan Lake State Park offers excellent trout fishing in its 42-acre lake. According to one visitor, "I love this lake. It's beautiful and you can always walk away with some fish." The lake prohibits motorized boats, creating a peaceful fishing environment.

Biking on paved trails: Carbondale-Crystal River KOA provides cabin guests with direct access to regional bike paths. "The bike trail is right outside the camp ground and you can ride to Aspen or Glenwood," notes one camper who stayed for two weeks.

Winter recreation: When staying at mountain cabins during colder months, prepare for snow-based activities. One reviewer mentioned, "Winter excursions are probably a bit tougher and would require an all wheel drive" when accessing cabins at Sylvan Lake State Park.

What campers like

Wood-burning stoves: Most cabins feature indoor heating options crucial for comfort during cold nights. "This park has so much character that it should have its own tv show. There are conservation areas, trails galore, historical buildings, and a beautiful lake that is surrounded with alpine forests," reports one visitor about Sylvan Lake Campground.

Riverfront locations: Some cabin properties offer prime water access. A camper noted, "Our site was directly on the river, which was beautiful, especially with the mountain in the background. We will definitely be coming back here to stay."

Private bathroom facilities: Many cabins near Meredith provide private or nearby bathroom access. "The bathrooms are fully equipped and clean. It was quiet at night which was surprising since you are basically in a cul-de-sac of tents and rv's," shares a visitor about facilities at cabin areas.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Not all cabin facilities operate year-round. "Sugar Loafin was the only campground open in this area. They were getting ready to close down for the season but let us stay," mentions a reviewer at Sugar Loafin' RV/Campground & Cabins.

Road conditions: Access to some cabin sites requires appropriate vehicles. "Definitely would advise 4x4, and not for travel trailers at all. Bringing one up could lead to a serious situation, since there are no places to turn around whatsoever," warns a visitor about Bellyache Road cabins.

Varying amenities: Cabin facilities range from rustic to well-appointed. "The showers and bathroom are cleaned daily it seems so that is nice. No cell service for Verizon. Firewood for sale at clubhouse. Staff is helpful. Wi-Fi can be spotty," reports a camper about amenities at one location.

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated play areas: Some cabin facilities include recreational spaces for children. "The kids play area needed attention. The restrooms were very clean. Helpful staff lead us to our spot and helped us park," notes a visitor at Sugar Loafin' RV/Campground.

Consider water activities: Lakes and rivers provide natural entertainment for children. "Gorgeous views of the lake but it was very open with little cover and the wind almost tore our tent down," warns a camper about Sylvan Lake conditions.

Check for noise levels: Highway proximity can impact sleep quality at some cabin locations. "The KOA is next to the highway, and road noise was an issue a few times, but nothing horrible. Staff was very friendly. Would stay here again if in the area," shares a guest about their experience.

Tips from RVers

Site preparation: Bellyache Road cabin and camping areas require careful navigation. "Absolutely requires four-wheel drive for two and a half miles of extremely rough unpaved road that goes up a thousand feet. Beautiful views and some shade but no break at all from the wind which can be intense up here," advises one RVer.

Seasonal considerations: Weather impacts access significantly. "Our first time in Colorado. The campground was great! It has water and electric, a clean bathhouse and a laundry room. We were only able to stay two nights out of the five I reserved. Being from Alabama, I couldn't handle the snow in June while in a tent," shares a visitor about their experience with unexpected mountain weather.

Parking logistics: Some cabin areas have limited space for larger vehicles. "The sites were a bit small but full hook ups with a lodge and general store on-site. Only about 5 minute drive the lake and Leadville," notes a camper about spatial constraints.
