Closed for 2024

Didn't stay here. Drove through it and wondered why no one was there. They must have forgotten to close the gate. Beautiful campground. According to the forest service website, Monarch Park campground is closed for 2024 season to make renovations. Too bad.

Nice FS CG with the beginning of the South Fork of the Arkansas River runni

We have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and stayed in site 28 for 3 days in mid June. We couldn’t get fully level, but it was a good site otherwise. The sites are fairly nice for a FS CG and very well spaced. Some sites are fairly level, but others will present some challenges. The camping fee with one of the park passes is very reasonable. There were only 3 other campers when we arrived and only a handful through the weekend. As is apparently our lot in life, as soon as we camp at altitude a cold front moves through, the temps drop and it gets rainy and/or snowy. Snowed about 1.5 inches Saturday morning. One of the upstream branches of the South Fork of the Arkansas River runs right past the site as well. There is some occasional road noise from US 50, but isn’t that noticeable. AT&T coverage was decent, with 2 Bars of LTE service and speeds up to about 3 MB/s. We had a clear view of the southern and northern sky, so we were able to get DISH coverage on all three western satellites at our site and Starlink had speed up to 9 MB/s.

A gem in the Colorado Mountains!

This is a beautiful and breathtaking scenic campground. We stayed in site 34 next to a bubbling creek. Very quiet, only a few other campers. The vegetation is beautiful, the air smells refreshing, and the water is extremely clean. We used the stream water for our RV. The campsite was very level and well taken care of, and perfect for our 26’ RV. This is a gem in the mountains! Highly recommend staying here!

Among the best

Great campground. Only me and one other camper where there. Beautiful setting. It was late in the season, cold in the morning but a great stay.

Stopped For The Views!

I made a stop knowing there was to much snow in the area to actually stay but I wanted to see what Monarch had to offer when it wasn't ski season and I was so pleased with the campground itself. It was small, but that was perfect for what I like and I will have to check soon my next trip when the ground isn't needing to thaw.

Sites were sheltered slightly by bushes it looked like and I noticed at the kiosk that there were several trails that ran through or near the site.

There are vault toilets so that is pretty normal for this kind of campground.

So what use is a campground when it is closed for winter? Views!! Lots of amazing views and with the snow it makes for those pictures you love and think of with Colorado in mind! As a travel blogger, I always can find the upside even on a scouting mission for something for the future.

Tips:

  • The peak season for this campsite is May through September, while you can visit until October weather often changes and it gets very cold at night.
  • Remember to always fuel up before trying to make the trip here the mountains will pull on your fuel and there are not many stops coming from Colorado Springs direction.

Beautiful, but small site

We spent one night on Site #32. It was somewhat of a challenge setting up our 6 tent because the site was small and the tent pad was surrounded by bushes, trees, and a tree stump on the tent pad. However, the campground offers beautiful scenery and was very quiet.

Where is Monarch Park Campground located in Colorado?

Monarch Park Campground is nestled in the scenic mountains of Colorado, near Monarch Pass along the Continental Divide. The campground sits at a high elevation, surrounded by beautiful forest and mountain scenery. What facilities and amenities are available at Monarch Park Campground?

Monarch Park Campground offers basic amenities typical of a Forest Service campground. Sites include tent pads, though some may have obstacles like tree stumps or vegetation. The campground features a bubbling creek with clean water that some visitors use for their RVs. Facilities are minimal but functional, with sites well-spaced for privacy. The small size of the campground contributes to its quiet, peaceful atmosphere, making it ideal for those seeking a more rustic camping experience.

Is Monarch Park Campground near Monarch Pass, and how do I access it?
