Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Wrightwood, CA

Table Mountain Campground provides pet-friendly accommodations throughout the Angeles National Forest with picnic tables, fire rings, and bear lockers at each site. Dogs are welcome at this clean, quiet campground with incredible sunset views from its higher elevation sites. The campground is suitable for tent camping with multiple sites spread out well among trees offering good coverage and seclusion. Camp hosts are friendly and helpful, selling firewood bundles for $8 when campers need additional supplies. The facilities include regularly cleaned vault toilets and water spigots, though no hookups are available for RVs.

Several dog-friendly hiking trails surround the campground, including access to the Pacific Crest Trail for longer adventures with pets. The Blue Ridge Trail, which begins near the stone tower at the nature center, offers excellent terrain for hiking with dogs. Most sites require leashes for pets at all times. Nearby North Lodge at the entrance to the campground allows campers to grab food and drinks without leaving pets behind at camp. Wrightwood village, about 5 minutes from the campground, features pet-friendly dining options including Mile High Pizza and Mexico Lindo for when campers need a break from outdoor cooking. The campground can experience significant wind, particularly at edge sites with the best views, so secure tent stakes and pet supplies accordingly.

    Adelanto RV Park

RV park but accommodates one night

RV Park full of residence and full timers. Will accommodate one or more nights. Good place to recharge and do laundry. Everything looks mostly clean and the pool was nice too. Small dog park with real grass.

Launch Pointe Recreation Destination and RV Park

    Nicest cleanest campground

I had site 126 in the fields, corner site and lake view. This campground has a pool, splash pad, park, dog park and access to the lake. They also have a band on Saturday nights. The only bad part is they strictly enforce quiet time at 10pm. I felt like a kid being told to go to bed. I feel like on weekends people should be able to stay up late in front of their camper with low voices. Shouldn’t be hounded night after night! That was my only complaint.

    Hare School Park

It’s the sports fields parking lot

I’ve been here for a couple days and nobody’s mess with us. There’s other people that are staying in another parking lot attached that are homeless in their vehicles mostly cars and vans. I’m in a 25 foot Fleetwood RV. There’s a dog park kind of area with a big field they can run around and just clean up after them. There’s no public bathrooms, but there are trash cans so clean up after yourself please. It’s not tent friendly. I don’t believe.

    Palm View RV Park

    This place is good

This is our 2nd time here it's quiet and they have the most interesting walkabout garden with little kickbacks where u can chill with whoever. If you don't have anybody walk on over next to the garden to find some nice goats and sheep and up on the little hill there's cute chickens of all whom can be pet as for they are all used to being pet. We bought some food that we feed them.

    Pineknot

    Great, beautiful little spot.

Clean, relaxing area that gives each party plenty of room. Pet friendly, our three dogs loved it! Staff was incredibly helpful and hard working. Also it was well located as it was a semi-quick drive to a few fun locations. Will be coming again, though I hear it requires a reservation well in advance. This is a very popular location!

Anaheim RV Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Disney Camping - Clean, Pool, Very Nice Restrooms/Showers

Anaheim RV Resort is close to Disney and is on the Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) bus route. They have full hook up sites and room for large rigs - back-in and pull through. They are very pet friendly and even have a dog walking/feeding service (for an extra fee). There is a small pool and hot tub. The restrooms/showers and newly remodeled and very nice! Sites are all level and fairly large. We've stayed here 4 times and will be back again!

    Bonita Ranch Campground

    Loved this spot!!

A little gem hiding out in Lytle Creek! Easy access to a pretty trail right behind the campground. Very quiet and interspersed with long time stayers and temporary campers. I stayed in my van and had my cat and dog with me. Campfire wood was easily available and had its own picnic table. Beautiful scenery and we even got a dusting of snow! I stayed two nights while in town for work and it was perfect.

    Lake Campground

Acceptable last minute camping, not great, not terrible.

    Pros: Large campsites

              Clean-ish toilets

              Lake within walking distance

    Cons: Right near highway, noisy

Lots of flies during the day

               tent sites are very flat

Last minute trip and decided to check out Lake Campground. There are 8 sites placed on this hilly area, with a vault toilet in the center of the campground. It is located right next to the highway, so it can be pretty noisy during the day as its a popular route for motorcyclists. The campground itself was fairly clean, and all the sites were very large and spaced well away from each other. The sites weren't very flat, so options to set your tent up were very limited. Some sites had some shade, others almost none. There were tons of flies, very active during the daytime, but went away during the evening. The vault toilets were the cleanest I'd seen (For vault toilets) and the staff came through the campgrounds several times a day.

Jackson Lake is a short walk from the campgrounds. It has a nice day use picnic area with coal grills, picnic benches, and four vault toilets (in pretty poor condition). The lake was pretty small and had a stagnant smell to it. Lots of people were fishing, and a few people waded into the waters. I saw people in rafts / kayaks later in the day. The area was covered in fleas so careful with pets.

Guide to Wrightwood

The Angeles National Forest sits at elevations between 6,000-8,000 feet with pine forests providing natural shade for campers. Summer temperatures average 75°F during the day, dropping to the 40s at night, while winter brings snow and subfreezing conditions. Campsites throughout the Wrightwood area typically have vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables, though amenities vary by location.

What to do

Hiking with elevation gains: Multiple trails surrounding Crystal Lake Rec Area Campground offer various difficulty levels. "There are several hiking trails here that are well used and well maintained. This is a great campground near the city," notes Robert A. who appreciated the accessible terrain.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Watch for native species at dawn and dusk. "Animals seen: Black bear, deer (wandered through our site), red foxes, Stellar's Jays, woodpeckers, other birds," reports Forest G., who camped at Crystal Lake and encountered diverse wildlife.

Water activities at nearby lakes: Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area offers swimming and water sports when camping. "Access to the Silverwood Lake recreation area is a great benefit. The beaches are not smooth sand, but are fine to walk on," shares Ken K. about the facilities.

What campers like

Campground cafe access: The cafe at Guffy Campground provides convenient food options. "Definitely stop off in the Crystal Lake Cafe for some food. Food is great and the owner, Adam, is a true diamond in the rough, very nice man," recommends Charlie C., highlighting the convenience.

Large group accommodations: Buckhorn Campground offers connected sites for families camping together. "If you want to do group camping there's plenty of it there. 9-10-11 are the best ones with shade together, they have a campfire circle big enough for 10+," Edgar V. advises about the layout.

Campground privacy levels: Spacing between sites varies greatly across campgrounds. "Most of these sites would be hard to get an RV in, and some of the sites are pretty sloped for big tents, but seems like a great place to get away," Amy B. observes about the seclusion levels at some sites.

What you should know

Seasonal variability: The Angeles National Forest campgrounds close during winter months. "This campground is nice for a getaway close to civilization and is relatively quiet in the off season. In the warmer months it can fill up fast on weekends and be a bit on the noisy and dirty side," Jessica B. reports about Applewhite Campground.

Noise levels on weekends: Campgrounds near Wrightwood experience different noise patterns depending on timing. "Noisiest camp site I've ever been to. People yelling until 5am, noisy generators going all day into the night, and chainsaws starting early in the morning," Dean P. warns about weekend conditions.

Elevation impacts: Higher elevation campgrounds experience temperature swings and winds. "It did start to get windy in the afternoon, and I think that might be true for most days because the campground is up on the very top of that part of the mountain," a camper notes about the weather patterns.

Tips for camping with families

Bear safety measures: Food storage is essential when camping with kids in this region. "Each site has a bear locker, picnic table and fire ring," mentions a camper, emphasizing the importance of proper storage in bear country around Wrightwood.

Lake proximity considerations: When camping with children, consider distance to water. "The lake isn't back actually near the site, and they don't allow for swimming. However, there is a recreational area 20 minutes down the mountain on the lake," Mercy M. explains about Lake Campground locations.

Off-peak camping benefits: For pet-friendly camping near Wrightwood with fewer crowds, choose non-holiday periods. "We came on a Saturday afternoon, and even though 4 of the sections of camping were closed off - we found an AMAZING space in section D. It wasn't right next to the bathrooms, but the site was spaced out enough that we had plenty of privacy," shares a camper about finding quiet spots.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for larger vehicles: Many campgrounds have limited access for bigger RVs. "This is probably our favorite place to go considering we end up hear almost every other weekend year around. Camp cost and parking cost isn't cheap but the views are great. Also this campground is HUGE and many locations are rather secluded," Salem L. notes about finding suitable spots.

RV length limitations: Check specific campground restrictions before arriving. "The road getting to the campgrounds is somewhat narrow and has some hairpin turns so again it might be difficult for someone with a long trailer," Wayne S. cautions about access roads at Bonita Ranch Campground.

Hookup availability: Most campgrounds near Wrightwood offer limited to no hookups. "I stayed in my van and had my cat and dog with me. Campfire wood was easily available and had its own picnic table," reports Heather L., noting the basic amenities available for smaller vehicles at Bonita Ranch.
