    Encore Cactus Gardens

Great 55+ park in Trails Collection

We stayed here in Jan/Feb and really enjoyed the sunny, warm weather and vibe at Cactus Gardens. The staff was friendly and there are lots of activities to do. There are 30/50 amp FHU sites and all are back-in. They are a little narrow, but a wide road for maneuvering. There is a pool, huge dog park, darts, shuffleboard, park, billiards, library, laundry, and community room. It is centrally located in Yuma and close to everything, including the Mexico border. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. 👍🏻😬

We stayed at SunRidge RV Resort in Yuma, AZ and really enjoyed the community. Very friendly and helpful staff. The park is spacious and clean and sites are large. All sites are FHU and back-in. They are gravel and have concrete patios. The park has a nice swimming pool, hot tub, dog park, bocce ball, pickle ball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, game room, pool tables, laundry, restrooms, mail room, community room, and more! It has it all, is close to everything in Yuma and the Mexico border, and the people here are awesome! Check it out if you’re in the Yuma area! 👍🏻😉

    Encore Suni Sands

    Very close to Walmart

This is a nice RV resort. It has heated pool during the winter and hot tub is always hot, and also open 24 hrs. Great laundry 1.75 for wash and dry, need a card. Unfortunately close to airport. Military jets take off and landing. Very noisy, but just for a short amount of time. It starts at around 8:30 in the morning and ends around 10:00 pm at night. They do not run all day long. Just a few planes take off and land. I like that it is close to Walmart, plus the RV park will take your shopping cart back for you, just leave your cart in front of your site, and then it’s gone. Great dog park. Nice running track next to RV park. RV’s are close during peak season. We are here late in season so we are practically the only camper here. Great staff and they even bring your mail to you. No extra charge. You can do Amazon and UPS. Those drivers will bring it to your site rather than drop off at the office.

Del Pueblo RV Park & Tennis Resort

    Yuma, AZ….Loved loved this place

Everyone was happy and friendly. Lots of residents but very clean and everyone has flowers. There’s SO much to do here. The pool is very nice and can get crowded. Laundry room is nice sized but change machine was out of order. Nice dog park, pickle ball court. They take you to your site which is always nice. Wish all parks did that. Sites were huge. Nice patio and big space to park your vehicle. It’s a beautiful park. Would stay again if in the area.

    Copper Mountain RV Park

    Copper Mountain RV Park.

Paved roads to the spaces which have full hook-ups. Pull through spaces for temporary stays. Military discount year round. Small swimming pool. Different activities each day of the week. Grocery store is in Wellton AZ 10 miles away. Staff and guests are fantastic. This is a 55+ age requirement RV park. Pets are allowed. BLM land borders property so guests bring their ATVs.

    Bonita Mesa RV Resort

Bonita Mesa RV Resort: A Disappointing Choice for Families.

My family and I recently stayed at Bonita Mesa RV Resort, and while it does allow children, there are some drawbacks. Firstly, they charge$10 per night for every person over two people, which can add up quickly. We ended up paying $89 with the"having children" penalty. Additionally, they do not allow more than two pets, although we saw many sites with multiple dogs. Unfortunately, we also found that the campground was not clean, and the sites were incredibly tight. If you have more than two cars, it can be difficult to find a place to park. I also suggest not letting the RV host help you park if you have a big rig, as they were very kind but caused more harm than help. On a positive note, the pool was clean and some hours were set aside for children. The laundry room was also great, but again, the price didn't justify it. Overall, finding a decent campground in Yuma can be a challenge, especially if you have a family. While Bonita Mesa RV Resort does allow children, the drawbacks may not make it worth the price. If you have a family, I suggest finding somewhere else to stay.

    Tier Drop RV Park

    Great facilities

We stayed here for one night on our trip and had a lovely stay. Definitely geared more towards people with bigger rigs, and a lot of the residents were long-term. Great laundry and bathrooms/showers. They also organize multiple community gatherings such as potlucks, discussion groups, organized golf and other activities. They also have a pool, which we sadly didn’t have time to enjoy. This RV park is located very close to several golf courses, which my fiancée greatly appreciated. Pet friendly as well. One thing I will say is that there is only one store in town (Del Sol) that sells propane (for stoves) so buying it before arriving is a good idea, as they were sold out when I tried to purchase some. Great nightly rates and close to the highway.

    Mittry Lake Wildlife Area

    Loud, dusty, infested

Honestly this is the worst place we have yet to camp dispersed. The atvs are non stop, extremelyloud, fast and kicking up dust with no consideration for campers EXTREMELY disrespectful. The mosquitoes are unbearable and I have 8 bites on my face alone. There are also a lot of coyotes around, so watch out if you have pets, and raccoons are sweet but they ripped open our trash.

Guide to Winterhaven

Dispersed camping options near Winterhaven, California extend beyond the established RV parks, with several BLM lands offering primitive sites for tent and RV camping. The area sits at approximately 150 feet elevation in the Sonoran Desert region, where winter temperatures range from 40-75°F while summer can reach 115°F. Seasonal patterns significantly affect campground availability, with many facilities reaching capacity during winter months when snowbirds migrate to the region.

What to do

Bird watching at wildlife areas: Mittry Lake Wildlife Area provides excellent bird watching opportunities with diverse waterfowl populations. "We loved getting to swim everyday! Overall i cant reccomend this place enough. I loved it and the convinience of it," shares Becca H. about her Mittry Lake Wildlife Area experience.

Water recreation on Colorado River: Several camping areas offer access to the Colorado River system for boating, fishing, and paddling. "We enjoyed this campground, but we were lucky to be able to boat-in. The sites are not accessible by vehicle and your gear must be carried in from the parking lot," explains David K. about the boat-in camping at T.K. Jones Campground at Squaw Lake.

Day trips to Mexico: Camping near the border allows for convenient trips to Los Algodones. "Great location if you plan on visiting Los Algodones, Mexico. Great cell signal. Dry camping. Close to I-8 so somewhat noisy," notes Greg H. about camping at Pilot Knob Long Term Visitor Area.

What campers like

Winter climate conditions: The mild winter temperatures make camping comfortable from November through March. "We spent 10 nights here and really enjoyed the experience. There are campsites over several miles, along the road and places in the floodplain of the lake. We camped near the gate valve station 2. Very quiet at night and almost no visitors," reports Kevin C. about his winter stay at Mittry Lake.

Cell service in remote areas: Many dispersed camping areas maintain surprisingly good connectivity. "Pulled in on a Monday afternoon and there were several other campers but had no issue finding a spot. I drove past the boat ramp for more secluded sites. Very quiet at night and felt safe. Had great cell service and no issues with working remotely," shares Abby M. about her Mittry Lake Wildlife Area Designated Camping Area experience.

Accessibility to shopping: Several camping options provide proximity to essential services. "We loved that it is located next to Walmart and they have a dedicated security gate right into the Walmart parking lot! You can push your shopping cart right to your site and the come around and collect them and return them to Walmart," notes a reviewer about Encore Suni Sands.

What you should know

Limited water access: Most dispersed camping areas lack potable water sources. "No water access but there is water access at the I-8 rest stop 10 miles away. You can dump your grey and black water at Chevron for $15," explains Tabatha H. about Pilot Knob LTVA.

Seasonal variations in occupancy: Winter months bring significantly higher campground population. "Only reason to camp here in my opinion is if you need a staging area to lv camper when going to MX for dental, optical, Rx needs. Nothing else of interest here," shares Greg L. about Pilot Knob Long Term Visitor Area.

Dust and wind conditions: The desert environment can create challenging camping conditions. "We enjoyed our 3 day stay here, but had a big dusty mess to clean up afterwards. Fishing revealed catfish and bass at the waters edge," notes Jessica M. about her Mittry Lake experience.

Tips for camping with families

Morning wildlife viewing: Schedule wildlife observation activities during early morning hours when temperatures are cooler and animals are active. "There are lots of birds! Also a few trails around the area through rocky hills. I thoroughly enjoyed my time staying here, and it was just a few minutes from town," mentions Becca H. about the wildlife at Mittry Lake.

Bug protection essentials: Desert camping near water requires proper insect preparation. "We adventured out to mittry lake in Arizona and boy was it beautiful. we brought our paddle boards to use on the lake and it was peaceful. at night... the mosquitos came out and ate us alive," warns Katie O. about her experience at Mittry Lake.

Water recreation safety: When planning water activities with children, consider seasonal conditions. "Pulled in on a Monday afternoon and there were several other campers but had no issue finding a spot. Very quiet at night and felt safe," shares Abby M. about her Sidewinder Road Camp experience.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: For pet friendly camping near Winterhaven, California, consider spacing between sites. "We came in October, so there was a few spots open. Areas that were once camping spots have been blocked off or signs posted no overnight parking and makes it limited on space," advises Marty C. about camping at Mittry Lake Wildlife Area.

Utility access planning: RVers should prepare for limited hookups in dispersed camping areas. "This is a nice RV resort. It has heated pool during the winter and hot tub is always hot, and also open 24 hrs. Great laundry 1.75 for wash and dry, need a card," reports Riki G. about her Sans End RV Park stay.

Wind protection considerations: Position RVs strategically to minimize wind exposure. "Not my choice for a LTVA. Open, harsh, windy and noisy from I8 interstate truck traffic. Only garbage dumpsters, no water, RV dump," cautions Greg L. about the conditions at Pilot Knob LTVA.
