Bass Lake at Yosemite RV Resort

    Tight sites

We didn’t know that the “20 miles from Yosemite” just meant the entrance, we still had to drive about 30 miles to get into the valley. The site we pulled into was really tight with a hill and drop off on either side so our picnic table had to be in front of the airstream. You are right next to the resort where there are restaurants but, not really any beach access and there aren’t wide walks around the lake. The facilities were nice and we had good wifi service but, I would recommend staying closer to Yosemite if you’re hiking.

Bass Lake at Yosemite RV Resort

    Great Spot & Beautiful Property

We booked this last minute over the phone, we were very impressed with the spot, next to the pool, clubhouse, fire pit. I do see that other spots are more crowded but overall the property is gorgeous and its a great fun family friendly place. We walked to pines village and got some souvenirs and ice cream. Great weather too. The river is also right in front of where we parked but it did not have much water.

    Mercey Hot Springs

    Amazing Place

I Van Camped at Mercey Hot Springs for 5 days. When I arrived the nights were hot so I decided to take an AC Cabin #10 where I could park right next to the cabin and slept comfortably. I moved to a RV camp site #5 when the temps at night were a more comfortable mid 60s. I love that the hot tubs are available all night long. It allows for long soaks while star gazing. The therapeutic water is magical some of the best I have found. As soon as you enter the pool or hot tubs you feel the smooth water on your skin. The hot tubs are all oversized privet bath tubs that you fill with mineral water of your desired temperature. This is a completely off the grid resorts that has good energy and tranquil atmosphere. It is very clean with clean bath rooms and showers. When I was there in June 2024 they did not have the restaurant open yet but one looks like it is in the near future. They do have snacks, cold drinks, coffee, ice cream and Ice in the front office for purchase. I took the short hike up the hill to see the solar array, while up there I discovered a most amazing triple Labyrinth circle walk that was very mindful experience. I have never seen such a neat labyrinth as this. Truly an amazing stay, I will be back.

    Indian Flat RV Park

    Close to Yosemite

We stayed here so we could shuttle to Yosemite. The lodge next door is a pick up spot for shuttles into the park. They have a bar/restaurant and a store which is convenient. The park was nice & shaded, with fire pits at each site. We enjoyed our stay- it was quiet being the off-season. The showers did not have hot water this time of year. You pay for WiFi per day, which was around $10/day.

    Indian Flat RV Park

Pleasent RV park on the way to Yosemite Valley

We stayed here in winter either side of 2 nights in Yosemite. In winter check-in/drive up bookings are in the lodge reception in the main village which is great as they're open all through the night. Power was good, showers were okay - hot but lacked pressure. Wifi is provided by a third party but was reasonably priced for an overnight stop.

    High Sierra RV Park

    Basic campsite

The campsite was 39 and it was right next to the bathroom. To leave with a 26’ travel trailer I had to pull out and back down another road just to exit the park. The showers had two each but you have zero privacy when drying yourself. One in the mens exits to the urinal and the other into the entrance door. The only few positive things are that they are friendly and you have shade from the trees on the property. It’s about a 30 minute drive to the South Yosemite National Park entrance.

    Here for Yosemite

This park is absolutely wonderful! They have cabins, places to rent camp, laundry on site, a pool, 30/50 hookups. Pull throughs and water and sewer. The park is about 30 mins from the entrance to Yosemite and if you don't want to do that... There's always Bass Lake...which is 2 miles down the hill!

Bass Lake at Yosemite RV Resort

Large campground, great amenities, lots of trees

Fairly big campground, with some spots having a good amount of privacy in a forest. Our site (#162) was large enough, although not very level. The sewer connection was almost level with our dump pipe, so it made dumping a challenge. The "Downtown" area, which is the center of the campground, has spots for members only, but they're very close together. Maybe good for group get-togethers where you are 10' from your neighbor. Amenities include a pool, day room with tons of things to do, a separate day room for kids, a large fire pit, showers, store at the office, horseshoe and 2 shuffleboard courts. While we were there, they played movies at sunset next to the pool. Close to Yosemite, the Sugarpine railroad and a decent-sized town. Temps were in the 80's. Overall a very nicely maintained place to stay. Staff seemed a bit aloof, but maybe they were all just busy. It's a large place. We actually loved the interaction with the staff at 49er RV Park, which was a lot smaller.

Guide to Madera

Cabin camping near Madera, California provides convenient access to both Yosemite National Park and nearby lakes at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 feet. The region experiences hot, dry summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F, while spring and fall offer milder conditions ideal for outdoor activities. Winter cabin stays typically see temperatures between 30-50°F with occasional snow at higher elevations.

What to do

Fishing at Lake McSwain: Lake McSwain Recreation Area offers excellent fishing opportunities with lakeside cabin access. According to one visitor, "Great place to camp and relax. The sites are clean and operational and everything is explained well prior to your stay." The lake is regularly stocked with trout.

Mountain biking at Barrett Cove: Located approximately 30 miles from Madera, Barrett Cove Recreation Area provides extensive mountain biking trails. A camper noted, "To be honest, I didn't experience much of the campground, but the parts that I did were above my expectations. We went to ride the mountain bike trails... they drain well and have a lot of sand it seems."

Swimming at High Sierra RV Park: The park features a creek with swimming options. One visitor remarked, "The creek, waterfalls & rope swing over the swimming hole was unbelievable!! The kids enjoyed the rope swing while the mom enjoyed the walk back to the falls & thru the shallow waters."

What campers like

Modern cabin amenities: Yosemite RV Resort offers cabins with contemporary furnishings and facilities. A satisfied camper shared, "We had a blast here. You're 25 miles from the park entrance, on a straight path. The sites were a great space and the pool and playground was a lot of fun for the kids."

Proximity to activities: Cabins at High Sierra RV Park provide easy access to nearby attractions. As one guest mentioned, "Amazing staff and location is convenient and has the Fresno river running through along with some hiking trails." Most cabins are within walking distance of water features.

Clean facilities: Barrett Cove Recreation Area maintains well-kept restrooms and shower facilities. One camper was particularly impressed: "A friend and I went in March of 2021 to ride the mountain bike trails... Down the hill from us was a nicely maintained bathroom. As my buddy said, it was a 4.5 of 5 stars. It was clean, smelled good and, get this, had nice toilet paper!"

What you should know

Distance to Yosemite Valley: Many cabin locations advertise proximity to Yosemite, but distances can be misleading. A visitor at High Sierra RV Park noted: "It's about a 30 minute drive to the South Yosemite National Park entrance." Plan for additional driving time once inside the park.

Site configurations vary significantly: Some cabin sites have unexpected layouts. One camper at Bass Lake at Yosemite RV Resort explained: "The site we pulled into was really tight with a hill and drop off on either side so our picnic table had to be in front of the airstream."

Weather considerations: Summer heat impacts comfort at lower elevations. A guest at Yosemite RV Resort mentioned: "Not worth the drive- but stayed here because I didn't plan ahead during COVID and national park restrictions. Nice place- but much warmer than the high elevation of the park."

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Indian Flat RV Park provides swimming pool access, which families particularly appreciate. A visitor noted: "After a long day of hiking in Yosemite it was nice to relax at the pool next door. We will definitely come back in the future."

Playground facilities: Many cabin locations feature playgrounds for children. A camper at Yosemite RV Resort shared: "Nice short bike rides up and down hills. Kids loved it!" Another mentioned: "The campground has a great pool and playground for the kids."

Lake activities: Barrett Cove Recreation Area offers family-friendly water recreation. According to a reviewer: "During our stay I think there was a fishing competition. Down the hill and around the corner was a boat launch and that place looked to have some activity. Regardless, the lake wasn't obnoxiously noisy as some lakes can become."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Lake McSwain Recreation Area has specific site limitations to consider. One RVer warned: "Pretty dry in the summertime, lots of foxtails, so be aware if you have fur babies. Flies were a bit of a problem. The lake was beautiful and refreshing. Would come back again but maybe early spring."

Cabin alternatives for RVers: Outdoorsy Yosemite offers both cabin rentals and RV sites at their Bass Lake location. A visitor explained: "This park is absolutely wonderful! They have cabins, places to rent camp, laundry on site, a pool, 30/50 hookups. Pull throughs and water and sewer. The park is about 30 mins from the entrance to Yosemite and if you don't want to do that... There's always Bass Lake...which is 2 miles down the hill!"

Space considerations: Some parks have limited maneuvering room. A camper at High Sierra RV Park advised: "To leave with a 26' travel trailer I had to pull out and back down another road just to exit the park. The showers had two each but you have zero privacy when drying yourself."
