Yosemite RV Resort in Coarsegold features big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections, operating year-round. Blackstone North RV Park in Fresno offers similar amenities with pull-through sites for larger rigs. Riverbend RV Park in Sanger maintains 55 RV sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp service options, plus water and sewer hookups. Site is small little to no space for vehicle at the site we are at some sites have a lot more room than ours."

Navigation to several parks requires careful planning, especially for those with larger motorhomes. The mountain roads leading to Bass Lake RV resorts involve winding routes with occasional sharp turns. Most parks in the region provide sanitary dump stations, though some charge additional fees for this service. Cellular reception varies significantly by location, with stronger signals at lower elevation parks near Fresno and diminished coverage in mountain settings. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard restrictions, and many parks include designated pet areas. During summer months, reservations become essential as RV campsites near Friant fill quickly with visitors heading to nearby Yosemite National Park. A camper noted that "the drive to Wishon starts with a long climb to Shaver Lake. Past Shaver Lake the road becomes windy for the remainder of the drive."

Park of the Sierras - Escapee Park

SKP Park of the Sierras exceeded our expectations

We stayed at SKP Park of the Sierras for two months during April and May and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. To use the park, you'll need an Escapees membership(about$50), which we found well worth the cost given the quality of the facilities and amenities.

Originally, we were only able to reserve one month at a time, but when our circumstances changed, the office staff were incredibly understanding and worked with us to extend our stay. The staff throughout the park were welcoming, friendly, and helpful.

Our site was spacious, shaded by mature trees, and included full hookups and a concrete patio area that was perfect for setting up chairs and relaxing outdoors. The grounds were well maintained, and the park was surprisingly quiet during our stay. The amenities were excellent. The clubhouse hosted daily activities, and there was a library, games, fitness area, coffee station, and a donation-based thrift shop section. The laundry facilities were clean and well maintained, and quarters were available for purchase in the office during business hours.

Traveling with dogs, we especially appreciated the dog park. It featured separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, water spigots, covered areas for rainy weather, and even a heater for chilly mornings.

The shower facilities were clean and comfortable. They sold propane onsite. Fuel was conveniently located just down the road at the casino, often at reasonable prices. For our longer stay we would drive into Oakhurst or Fresno for groceries, so it's worth planning ahead for larger grocery runs.

One of the biggest advantages of this park is its location. It served as an excellent home base for exploring Yosemite National Park, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Monterey Bay, San Francisco, and Pinnacles National Park,(we don’t mind a long drive!).

We used Starlink throughout our stay and were pleased by how well it worked. Even with a tree-filled site, it was able to find enough open sky to maintain a reliable connection.

A few things future guests should know: some of the roads have tighter curves, but the staff are very knowledgeable about matching RVs to appropriate sites. Our 25-foot trailer had no issues. Mail and package delivery can also require some planning. As guests, we had mail sent to General Delivery at the Coarsegold Post Office. However, we later learned that FedEx would not deliver there, so packages shipped by different carriers may require different delivery addresses. It's worth confirming shipping methods before ordering anything important.

Overall, SKP Park of the Sierras exceeded our expectations. The spacious sites, excellent amenities, quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, and central location made it one of our favorite long-term stays. We would gladly return and highly recommend it to other RV travelers.

      COE Eastman Lake Codorniz Campground

Quiet and Clean - Codorniz Corps Campground

We have stayed at this campground many times and recently revisited in September’24. This COE is on a small lake that is used for irrigation during the summer resulting in a much lower water level than in the spring. Fishing is good. The Corps have added more electric sites over the years and there were 5-6 that fit our 43’ Blue Bird. We marked this as “big rig” friendly. Springtime has the grasses green with abundant wild flowers in late Feb through early March. Summer can be hot as the elevation is low in the California Central Valley and the grasses are brown. Sites are asphalt. Many sites may take some time to level. Back in and pull through are available. A nice dump stations is available within the COE park. Fall has a Tarantula migration and you will definitely see them. Coyote, Bobcat, and deer are frequently seen. Codorniz is 21 miles from Chowchilla. One way in and one way out cuts down on traffic.

      Lindy's Landing and Campground

      Right in the king river

If you have a long fifth wheel or RV this place is perfect pull through parking full hook up. The front desk lady is so nice he has a small store there for incidentals that you might’ve forgot. Clean quiet. Great family place

      Island Park

      Beautiful, but difficult

This park is absolutely stunning this time of year. There are wildflowers everywhere and the weather was a perfect low 70s in the daytime and 50s at night. We stayed in spot 33 which says for 53’ or less… we are 42’ and barely fit so be careful there. Additionally, you will NOT fit here if you can’t take your rig past a 90* turn safely. It was a bit of a nightmare getting turned around to back in here (we have a 42’ toy hauler and a 3500 ram DRW with an Andersen hitch), BUT we’ve had an incredible week here. Stars were beautiful, the nature trail was perfect for our three boys, and the views are absolutely stunning. Worth the $20 a night. If you’re a big rig, park in overflow or the upper loop. Trust me on this.

      Camp Edison

      Room to Roam

We have been coming to Camp Edison annually for the past 15 years and have never been disappointed. Each site has plenty of room and includes a picnic table and fire pit. It’s a short walk to Shaver Lake from virtually any of the sites, and several have a nice view of the lake. Fishing, boating, swimming or just picnicking on one of the many beaches surrounding the lake is a great way to spend your time. Some sites have full hook ups, but most have just electricity and cable TV, with water faucets nearby to fill your RV or use as needed if dry camping. There is a dump station on site and also a “honey wagon” that will come to your site and pump out your waste water, if you desire. Restrooms are clean and plentiful and each has a shower (25 cents for 2 minutes). The laundromat has come in handy several times, too. Camp Edison has great activities during the summer season including guided educational nature walks, both day and evening, as well as kids’ movies in the amphitheater. There is also a museum on site that offers activities and fun events like an ice cream social.

      High Sierra RV Park

It would be our last resort if nothing else was available

I’ll start with the positive. If you need anything stores are close and entrance to Yosemite is 15 min up the road. Now for the negative. We have 29 foot travel trailer and we reserved a premium pull through spot. Although we could pull through the spaces were very tight and we just happen to get lucky that nobody was across from us as there is only in one way in and one way out. We were able to use other empty spot across from us to turn around. Had it been full we would have had a heck of a time getting out. One family came in last night and their spot was at the very end and they had to back all the way out of the park so they could back their trailer all the way back in. It is ridiculous. Our spot was also very hard to try and level our trailer. We never did quite get it leveled the way we would’ve liked. The bathrooms aren’t very clean and the “beach” is over grown and i wouldn’t really even let my dog in the stagnant water. Bottom line this place is not good for your larger travel trailers our size or bigger. Especially if you are in a spot like we had which was spot 34 or a spot towards the end. Maybe better spot near the entrance. Class c generally would have no problem.

      Sweetwater

      Sweetwater sure was sweet!

We (a team of 6 people) are in SD participating in an adventure race called Questival. This campground had full restrooms and coin opporated showers. The site is pet friendly and has horse stables. Our neighbors were friendly and quiet. The site had a picnic table, fire pit, water spout and full electricity hook ups.

      Wishon Village RV Resort

      Unplug and Enjoy Nature

We stayed at this campground may years ago (2006-2008) and it has remained one of our favorites.

Our most recent stay was for a small rally of 8 class A RVs from 34' to 43' in length all with tow vehicles. Wishon was able to accommodate all of us. The drive to Wishon starts with a long climb to Shaver Lake.  Past Shaver Lake the road becomes windy for the remainder of the drive.  Expect at least a 40+ minute drive from the Shaver lake turn off. On the way you will pass a grove of Giant Sequoia trees with a pull out to walk or picnic among them.

All sites are gravel and have full hook ups.  Some sites have 50 amp service but it will rarely be needed because of the elevation of 6800 feet. All sites will accommodate the RV, vehicle, boat, and more. Wishon also has tent sites with or without platforms.

There are many activities available from this campground. Hiking, mountain bike riding, Jeep trails (Dusy-Ershim Trail), and fishing.   Two reservoirs are nearby, Wishon and Courtright. Courtright at 8200' opens later than Wishon at 6600'. Rainbow and German Browns can be caught.

Wishon Village has a nice store with most necessities and sells fishing licenses.

Shooting Star Sanctuary and Retreat near Yosemite National Forest

      Beautiful

We loved our stay here. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. The animals are a great bonus. Perfectly family friendly with plenty of room to hang out by the fire. Jason and his family were awesome making sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend. The road in is bumpy, but we pulled a 40 foot 5th wheel up no problem.

    Guide to Friant

Near Friant, California, RV camping options span from lower-elevation valley sites to mountain parks at elevations reaching 3,500 feet. Temperature variations between Fresno County valley campgrounds and mountain destinations like Bass Lake can exceed 15°F during summer months. Cellular coverage diminishes significantly above 3,000 feet elevation with most mountain campgrounds reporting limited data capabilities.

    What to do

River access activities: McCabe Flat Campground sits along the Merced River providing opportunities for fishing and swimming when water conditions permit. "I managed to catch a 12" rainbow almost right away, just feet from the campsite. Later on hooked another one but lost it," reports a camper at McCabe Flat Campground.

Pool facilities: Many parks provide swimming alternatives to natural water bodies. At Bass Lake at Yosemite RV Resort, one camper noted, "This place was awesome. Only a 15 min hike to the lake and a 30 min drive into Yosemite. We spent the weekend in site 126 it was a level site with limited shade and full hookups."

Golf access: Some RV parks integrate with golf courses. The Lakes RV & Golf Resort in Chowchilla includes "a high fence surrounding the property and it is secured by electronic hand held devices that you receive when you check in. You can walk through a gate to the golf course and a nice little restaurant."

    What campers like

Fishing opportunities: Multiple campgrounds offer access to fishing waters. At Kings River RV Resort, visitors appreciate proximity to seasonal fishing spots, though water levels fluctuate: "According to the front of the office, they sell sundries and souvenirs, but they never opened the office during our stay even though should have according to the hours on the door. From the information on their website, the King River that runs adjacent to the CG is pretty much dried up this time of year(January) but fills for the summer season."

Clean facilities: Riverbend RV Park maintains well-kept grounds with several amenities. "FHU with large pull through spots. Quiet place that was nice to spend a few days at while exploring Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Place has grass, dog park, lots of kids play areas, adults game areas, fishing pond, creek and river next to property is very pretty."

National Park proximity: Many campgrounds serve as bases for exploring nearby national parks. Sequoia RV Park provides "Lots of room to get around. Grassy large spots with full hook ups. Close to King Canyon and other attractions."

    What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds feature uneven terrain requiring leveling equipment. At High Sierra RV Park, guests report: "Our spot was also very hard to try and level our trailer. We never did quite get it leveled the way we would've liked. The bathrooms aren't very clean and the 'beach' is over grown and i wouldn't really even let my dog in the stagnant water."

Road conditions: Access to mountain parks requires navigating challenging roads. One camper advised about approaching Sequoia RV Park: "There are many ways to arrive here, but the most direct and easiest is on California State Highway 180."

Reservation requirements: Summer months demand advance planning. A reviewer at Yosemite RV Resort observed, "We had a blast here. You're 25 miles from the park entrance, on a straight path. The sites were a great space and the pool and playground was a lot of fun of the kids."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground facilities: Yosemite RV Resort offers family-friendly amenities. "Many options to stay! Rv, bring your own tent, yurts, safari tents, cabins. RV spaces have many different location styles, secluded, views, groups etc. Large clean pool with a shallow lounging section. Playground."

Swimming options: Families appreciate parks with swimming facilities during hot weather. At The Lakes RV & Golf Resort, "The pool is gorgeous. The sites are meticulously maintained. Wonderful place to spend the night or even longer."

Pet accommodations: Many parks accommodate family pets with designated areas. Yosemite RV Resort provides "Great place and experience. Bathroom are the best I've seen by far. Large dog run which was amazing."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Blackstone North RV Park, "Sites are large and level but no screening between rigs. Good overnight spot!"

Power requirements: Different parks offer varying electrical service levels. Riverbend RV Park "has grass, dog park, lots of kids play areas, adults game areas, fishing pond, creek and river next to property is very pretty. We really enjoyed it."

Pull-through availability: Larger rigs benefit from appropriate site selection. At Sequoia RV Park, the spaces provide "Lots of room to get around. Grassy large spots with full hook ups."

RV size limitations: Bridge crossings and narrow roads create access issues for larger rigs. At McCabe Flat Campground, "There is a narrow bridge before the campgrounds that limits vehicle size. It is not advisable for trailers over 18 feet in length."
