Best Glamping near Fresno, CA

If you have an RV or prefer car camping/glamp set up this is a very nice spot. Lots of RV spots, but I chose to tent camp. Two types of tent sites, platform and ground neither of which has AC/Water. I had a platform site that was next to a little stream. There is a village store on site, showers, toilets, and water. Close to Wishon Reservoir which is great for trout fishing. Courtright is a little farther but wasn't accessible at the time I went due to fallen trees blocking the road. Attended a village church service on Sunday which was the topping on the cake for me. Lots of people around the campsites but partying is prohibited. That being said if you want a little more serene camping experience there is plenty of dispersed camping in this part of the woods.

There are few gems along the Hwy 99 route between Sacramento and Bakersfield but this is definitely one of them! Located a short 20 miles east of 99, just north of Fresno, this Army Corps of Engineers campground is stunning. Situated among rolling hills that are luscious green in the spring, this campsite is quiet and packed full of things to do. Whether you want to bike, hike, fish, boat or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet, this is the site for you!

We're dry camping at the Wildcat site which the ranger said is rarely used. There is no one else in the whole campground!

Coyotes howled in the distance last night and it was dead quiet. Going to take the road bike out today and explore some of the roads around the Lake. Lake is full after the 2023 season.

The name says it all. This campsite was a majestic experience for being surrounded by huge pines and sunsets you have to experience- photos do them no justice. Campers were very respectful and nighttime brought a soothing silence with very little noise and partying. Everyone gathers to see the sunset and it gave a sense of community and a true appreciation of nature. Drives and hikes to nearby tree parks made it easy to visit some of the largest trees in the U.S. There’s a Grant Grove market and visitors center just across from the campground entrance. There’s also a cafe that you can grab cooked food in case you arrive late and just want to relax. Restrooms were clean. Showers were out at the time of our visit, but it wasn’t a big deal. Large boulders and huge fallen trees provided plenty of places to sit or bask in the sun and also stargaze. You can see the lights of Fresno wayyy in the distance at night depending on which side of the campground you are on. Definitely saving this for an annual attempt to nab a campsite.

We have stayed at this campground many times and recently revisited in September’24. This COE is on a small lake that is used for irrigation during the summer resulting in a much lower water level than in the spring. Fishing is good. The Corps have added more electric sites over the years and there were 5-6 that fit our 43’ Blue Bird. We marked this as “big rig” friendly. Springtime has the grasses green with abundant wild flowers in late Feb through early March. Summer can be hot as the elevation is low in the California Central Valley and the grasses are brown. Sites are asphalt. Many sites may take some time to level. Back in and pull through are available. A nice dump stations is available within the COE park. Fall has a Tarantula migration and you will definitely see them. Coyote, Bobcat, and deer are frequently seen. Codorniz is 21 miles from Chowchilla. One way in and one way out cuts down on traffic.
