Very busy but well maintained campground

Follow the signs to the "new entrance" -- but it's well marked and well staffed.  The campgrounds are well marked, but we found that our site was actually accessible going the opposite direction from the signage. So we went around the loop but this would have put the utilities on the passenger side, not the driver side.  So we went back through the loop the opposite way (be careful of opposing traffic and there's limited space to maneuver, but this is the only way to properly access certain sites).

The picnic table had a gazebo over it, but it was occupied by wasps.  We weren't planning to use it anyway as this was only a stopover for us, but this is something to be aware of.  50amp service worked great which was important for both air conditioners to work on this 102 degree day!

Overall the camp ground was super quiet.  Keep in mind that there are no in/out privileges after 10pm.  If you leave, you may not be able to get back in and this is documented on the checkin documentation.  There is plenty of good grocery shopping for supplies located to the north and south (I went north).  Beautiful campground but the sun and heat are a little relentless so be prepared with good AC, shade/awnings and other cooling methods.

Beautiful campground on the Grand Mesa

Located adjacent to Island Lake, this campground is beautiful, but watch out for the mosquitos!  We took a non electric pull-through as a stopover for the night.  Our 35 ft 5th wheel fit easily.  The campground is pretty easy to maneuver in, even for a larger camper.  Be sure to take the longer road along the south side of the lake from the eastern most turn off of HWY 65 to get to the campground.  The norther western route is narrow, steep and very challenging for even the smallest RV.

The campground host was super pleasant.  We had to grab the mosquito repellent before we were even done levelling and setting up because they were absolutely unreal, swarming on a cool sunny afternoon.  They were just relentless!  The site was pretty level but we did use some levelling blocks to even things out.  Great spot to base for exploring the Mesa, fishing, hiking or offroading.

The table and recreation areas of each campsite are very well designed and maintained.

If you have an America the Beautiful card, be sure to mention it. I paid a steep discount with the card.

Crowded RV campground next to the casino

If you're traveling east along 395, turn immediately after the gas station (west side of the casino/resort building).  You'll proceed straight ahead to the RV park kiosk to check in.  Spaces are *very* close together and their idea of a 60 foot space is about 5-6 feet shorter in reality.  Our RV+truck tip to tail (unhooked) is about 54 feet long and we had to park the truck sideways to stay within the lines.  The space was wide enough for our slides to come out, but not the awning.  The space is marked 30/50 amp but only had 30 and 20 amp outlets.

Despite being pretty crowded, it was quiet at night.  The casino is nice and about what you'd expect to find in South Lake Tahoe, but located in Minden.  The steakhouse was great and we enjoyed some $5 black jack.  This was our last stop on our way home and if it came up again, we'd come back.

A couple people were a bit liberal with parking over their allocated space, but we were able to maneuver by.  Some spaces apparently don't have dumps and it can back up getting out of the park if an RV wants to dump on the way out -- it will block the exit.

If you need gas, best to get fuel at the station prior to hooking back up if you're towing -- just easier to maneuver.  But you can still maneuver into the gas station on the way out or on the way in if you want.  If you're doing it on the way in, be sure to turn into the gas station on the west side so you can turn into the RV park entrance without having to turn around.

Terrific stopover along the highway just outside of Wells

In the middle of the Nevada desert along I80, there's a nice RV oasis for a stopover for travelers.  Located just west of Wells, NV, this mom and pop run RV park has nice trees, grass and grounds including a pond.  There's a small store with goodies and wagyu locally raised beef.  We picked up some ribeye, t-bone and new york strip.  Woke up to blueberry muffins on our doorstep baked fresh by the hosts.  Would highly recommend. Highway noise was faint and not bothersome.  Spaces are a little close together, but it doesn't feel crowded.

Clean, quiet campground with easy access to West Yellowstone

Located about 25 minutes from West Yellowstone off of HWY 20, this campground is a great jumping off point to explore Yellowstone park.  There are other campsites including a couple KOAs located closer, but they're busier with campsites closer together and fewer trees and minimal shade.  This is set back far enough from the highway that it's very quiet with ample space between campsites.  Some sites have electrical hookups.  Ours didn't but the weather was perfect and we didn't need AC at all.

We did have a campers nearby who showed up the last two days of our 5 days full of boys who were a bit noisy early in the morning (before 730a), but we didn't really mind.  There was a spigot to fill our water tanks in the loop we stayed, but we filled up from the area host who has a hose for that purpose before we wen to the site.  Due to the location in the loop, you have to go all the way around the loop before you get to the spigot, so it was good we filled up before we went to the loop.

Very clean and convenient

Stopped for the night on the way to Colorado. Very easy check-in via the Web. There are a ton of very well developed sites. There was one other camper we saw that came in a little later than us.

We would stay here again.

We did have a minor issue that the 50a service breaker wouldn't reset even with nothing plugged in.  But we simply used the 30a which was plenty for us with the relatively cool weather.  We let them know the next day and they said it would be checked.

Quiet, clean and convenient

Located just around the corner from a full service (Def pumps) Maverick truck stop, this quiet RV Park is a convenient stop along I80. Pull into an open spot in the overnight section and then walk over to the office to fill out an envelope, deposit cash or a credit card slip (4% fee) and then hook up for the night.

The sewer, water, electricity and cable TV hookups are all in great working order in all the sites we saw. Wasn't busy the night we were here.

Gorgeous setting and easy access

There are few gems along the Hwy 99 route between Sacramento and Bakersfield but this is definitely one of them! Located a short 20 miles east of 99, just north of Fresno, this Army Corps of Engineers campground is stunning. Situated among rolling hills that are luscious green in the spring, this campsite is quiet and packed full of things to do. Whether you want to bike, hike, fish, boat or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet, this is the site for you!

We're dry camping at the Wildcat site which the ranger said is rarely used. There is no one else in the whole campground!

Coyotes howled in the distance last night and it was dead quiet. Going to take the road bike out today and explore some of the roads around the Lake. Lake is full after the 2023 season.

Friendly and beautiful

Very well kept full service campground with super helpful staff. I recommend sites with canopies if you don't have solid air conditioning as it can get hot in the sun and there's very little natural shade. All sites have power and water. There's a dual lane dump station on the way out of the park.

Remote, quiet and great history

While the sounds of highways and trains abound, the historical significance of this amazing site isn't lost to the sands of time. A pleasant, barely off the beaten path campground, this is worth a stop over before entering the hustle and bustle of southern California urban life.

Walk around the town and listen to the history of this very significant town that was once the site of the largest hotel between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

We are the only people here

Small, narrow but pretty

Not suitable for tow behind trailers larger than about 20 feet or small RVs about 24 feet. A single lane road takes you to two loops. Great access to the river with some road noise from 88. Great spot to use as a base to fish, hike and bike.

Stellar views

Absolutely one of the most beautiful places we've stayed. Although popular during the day as a place to start or end rafting trips from the boat launch, it gets quiet at the end of the day.

Sites are large and can accommodate large RVs; however, some sites have pretty steep approaches that may require a significant number of leveling blocks.

If you stay nearest the road, these sites have little to no shade. This can get pretty warm in the summer sun so bring shade. It's 8 minutes to a ranch that carries ice, coffee and basic food and 25 minutes to Moab.

Cell service is weak and only worked in the middle of the night for some reason.

Absolutely central to some of the most beautiful that this area has to offer. Easy access to the Arches.

First to Review
Amazing steep canyon campsite

Access to the campground is via a 2.5 mile long single lane dirt road. There are a few small wider spots to squeeze past oncoming traffic, but locals tend to travel fast, so be vigilant.

We towed our 30 foot bumper pull behind our full size truck (49 feet tip to tail) and made it but this is right at the limits for maneuvering. There are several sites that will fit a 30 foot trailer. 35 feet seems like a stretch to me, but proceed at your own risk. There is a loop to turn around at the end of the campground. Scout out your site on foot and create a plan before pulling in. You may wish to travel around the loop one direction or another depending on your chosen site.

The sites are pretty well isolated and with the creek flowing fast, the background noise easily washed away the sounds of other campers.

No reception to cell service and limited view of the sky with rising mountains on either side. If seclusion, nature, fishing and camping up against a mountain surrounded by vegetation is your goal, you've found your destination!

We stayed one night but would have happily stayed longer. There is a general store, laundromat and saloon in Kingston but hours may vary.

Park next to the pond with amazing mountain views

This is one of my favorite dispersed camping sites in the area. Drive your RV or place your tent right next to the water. No services. There is space for about 5 RVs. When we showed up at 1230p it was empty. It was full by around 4p.

Fishing the pond is best with fly as there are many snags below the water. There is a river a short walk from camp that has good fishing.

Always try to get to this spot if I'm visiting Whittier

Serves a purpose

Very basic and full of mosquitos in July especially if you're tucked in close to the foliage. But this is a great place to stay if you're chartering from Whittier. Everything is within walking distance and there are some great hikes and fishing too.

It's just not pretty. Very muddy if it's raining too. It is quiet except for the white noise of the glacier run off just feet from the sites.

Gorgeous lake and fully disconnected

Plenty of camp sites available and a short walk to the lake. Water and trash service available but no dump station. Grab your overnight ticket using your license plate number (not space number) and pick out your favorite spot from 50 different sites. Lake allows electric motors only and it's pretty shallow from shore, so I think the best fishing will be by kayak or dinghy.

Worth a trip and great fishing

We didn't have a reservation but there are a number of first come first served sites. I would try to show up closer to noon after people are leaving those sites. All of the non reserved sites were full by about 3p. Several reserved sites remained empty despite having a reservation.

Come for the beautiful lake, stay for the Thai food

Super friendly host and gorgeous area. Our RV door opened up to a view of the gorgeous lake. Plenty of amenities and the on site restaurant is a gem. The Thai food was REALLY good. So good that we'd go back just for the food!
