Don't leave your stuff you care about outside

Some people been there for years, old beat down place the pond is disgusting and the environment is not somewhere I feel safe or would let my kids play unsupervised. Drug addicts and Drunks are your neighbors and I prefer a safer location. Nobody wearing a mask and a few groups of people.

Packed liked sardines

If you wanna go to a place where your neighbor less than five feet away and crammed like sardines and many cars per single rv. This the place for you. They also have apartment style buildings you can rent. Not a safe feeling place. I think if you leave stuff out you will surely be robbed. One star due to overcrowding and only one entry gate open and the other is locked tight.

Closed cause Covid

Nice group area with comfortable and easy walking trails. Chicken coop style housing with wooden bunk beds. Great group fire, picnic and theater area. Cold Portable water available for free at one of the many stations. Convenient boat ramp just next to Campsite. Close enough to hear the river flowing.

Secluded, but easy to access

Last time I went was in the early spring, so the roads were a little sloppy. Cars can get in and out pretty easy, but pay attention to tire slip.

Sites were clean and in open space.

Lots of hikes nearby with some cool leftovers from various forest service project. There are some cool footbridges around, but sometimes they are closed in winter.

Not a lot of firewood options, so bring your own.

Sycamore campground and Red Bluff Recreation Area

It's a beautiful area, the campground is located in the middle of Red Bluff Recreation Area. Lot's of nature trails. They have many of the plants and trees recognized by little name tags. So interesting and absolutely gorgeous.

One of the best in Redding

Refreshing staff, pull thru’s, and quiet, even though the freeway isn’t too far away. Little store with stuff. At the time it was fire season & Covid, so bathrooms were closed. Good for overnight stop while traveling south.

Easy to get to and unbelievable beauty.

Years ago you could camp right on the lake in primitive walk in spots, now that is not allowed.  There is a small campground with just a few spots down the road a quarter mile but it's rare to find an empty spot there.  The lake has grown in popularity over the years and if you want to secure a day spot on the lake's edge plan on getting there first thing in the morning.  People do also disperse camp about another mile down the road in a gravel pull out area.  Castle Lake is easy to get to via Castle Lake road which is paved the entire way.

Shakedown PCT hike here

Excellent for tents and small Class B Vans. Don’t miss the views at the top of the single lane road to a 360* viewing area. Nice hot showers too.

Nice river spot

The campground was closed I spent 3 nights car camping in a parking area just left of the campground gate. Lots of people in and out fishing Short trail at the end of the campground that follows the river.
