    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Gunter Hill Campground's pet-friendly sites accommodate campers with dogs throughout both the Catoma and Antioch loops. The Catoma loop offers full hookup sites with concrete pads, while the Antioch loop provides electric-only sites with gravel pads. Oak Mountain State Park Campground also welcomes pets across its various accommodation types, including tent sites, RV spots, cabins, yurts, and glamping options. Most campgrounds in the area maintain standard leash requirements and expect owners to clean up after their pets. Kountry Air RV Park and Joyland RV Park provide spacious sites with grassy areas between campsites where pets can stretch their legs. Brierfield Ironworks Historical Park permits pets in its tent, RV, and cabin accommodations. Many campers report that the large, well-spaced sites at Gunter Hill provide ample room for dogs to relax while still maintaining distance from neighboring campers. The Dyrt includes reviews of campgrounds near Stanton, Alabama.

Several walking paths around Gunter Hill's waterfront allow for regular pet exercise with scenic views. Prairie Creek Campground features boat-in access where dogs can enjoy shoreline exploration, though dogs must remain leashed in public areas. Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park provides a dedicated dog run area, making it convenient for quick relief breaks. The paved sites at this park offer clean surfaces for pets, while the large grassy areas between sites give dogs room to stretch out on tie-outs. Minooka Park's trails provide additional exercise opportunities for leashed dogs. When planning summer visits, be aware that concrete pads can become hot for pets' paws during peak heat. The limited shade at some campgrounds like Wind Creek Atmore requires extra consideration for keeping pets cool during warmer months.

      The Backyard RV Resort

      Home away from home

We are baaaack! We came back on Friday, the 26th and decided to stay a week. Shannon and his wife, Stacey have the gift of hospitality. We feel safe here with the hidden location and security cameras. Our dogs enjoyed the dog park and walks through the woods and around the lake. I enjoyed the watching the cows and dog herding the goats through the clearing. There is also a playground for kids.

      Great campground with friendly staff

The staff here is wonderful. They've helped us adjust to full time RV Life over that past 4 months. The residents here are very friendly as well.

They have a dog park at the front and a large field in the back door our dog to run and play. The pavilion is also great for getting out, even in rainy weather.

The pool is amazing. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas to rest and our kids love the slide.

      Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

      Birmingham South RV Park

      Close to Interstate

Conveniently located right off of Interstate I-65 with lots of pull thrus for an overnight stay. We stayed for a few nights as we had friends in town and wanted to see some of the sites and eat at the great restaurants in town. The campground is about fifteen miles from downtown Birmingham. The park is on the older side but decent enough. Roads are paved and have some potholes to navigate. Campsites are gravel sites and some patios are paved (although very small) and others are grassy. Tiny dog park. There is a covered pavilion with picnic tables that has a sink and campers outdoor kitchen although it looks like it had not been used in a while. Heated swimming pool, game room, and playground. Our park features a newly renovated store and office, a fenced playground, a heated swimming pool, descent wifi. Overall, we like the convenience of this campground to the interstate. If you have time, check out Vulcan Park and the Sloss Furnace National Historic Landmark. Definitely go to the Alabama Peanut Company for the best and most tasty peanuts you’ve ever had.

      Great little campground off I-65

Ultra clean Good Sam campground located just off I-65. Staff was wonderful and engaging. Expect a former Marine to escort you to your site, rain or shine. It was pouring buckets when we arrived and he insisted on taking us literally across the street from the camp store to ensure we had everything we needed.

All lots appeared to be pull thru and level. Due to rain, we kept our Airstream connected to the truck and just connected water and electricity. Leveling was minimal (fore/aft) with no need for blocks or boards.

Recommend staying in sites closer to camp store, as they are farthest from interstate. We barely heard it from site 2.

Laundry room was clean and available to wash/dry lots of towels due to rain and wet dog. Water pressure in campground is 80 psi.

Large fenced dog park at north end and plenty of green space for walking your puppy. Just be aware there are rabbits all over the place.

Propane is available on site and the camp store has a little bit of everything. And there’s a Love’s truck stop at the exit as well.

Great spot for an overnight stay on your trip. You won’t find a nicer staff or a cleaner campground!a

RV Friendly, not so much for tents

This is an okay campground but really caters to RVs. There's a whole lot of concrete, perfect for recreational vehicles but not so much for tent or hammock campers. It's more of an RV resort of sorts.

Tent sites are cheap at $5/night but you're limited to only 7 nights. Which probably won't matter to a tent camper here, as I would think being here for that long would be a bit much.

There are a ton of amenities here, including an old softball field turned into a dog park of sorts. There is a nice little lake but that's about it in terms of 'natural' amenities. Okay spot if you just need a place to stay the night but I wouldn't prolong a visit here. Also sort of loud given its close proximity to the train tracks.

      Kountry Air RV Park

      Natural & Beautifully Wooded

My husband's job requires constant travel. We stayed here for five weeks for a job in Selma. I absolutely LOVED this campground! GiGi and Don work tirelessly six days a week. If there were 8 days in a week, they would work 7. Beautiful flowers, more trees than I have ever seen in a campground, fenced dog park, seasonal pool, bathrooms with a shower, large laundry room/sitting area at the front of the park, book/DVD swap, second laundry room being renovated at the back of the park, propane filled on site and safe walking within the park (hills). Some road noise but not obnoxious. Will absolutely stay here again if we are in the area.

    Guide to Stanton

Campgrounds near Stanton, Alabama provide access to the region's elevated central Alabama terrain. The area sits in the transition zone between the Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions at roughly 300-400 feet elevation, characterized by rolling hills and pine-hardwood forests. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F between June and September, with winter lows typically ranging from 30-50°F.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Paul M. Grist State Park Campground, visitors can fish in the lake, though amenities are limited. "There was a lake there with no amenities," notes one camper, making it best for self-sufficient anglers bringing their own gear.

Trail exploration: Oak Mountain State Park Campground offers extensive hiking options within its boundaries. A camper describes, "Oak Mountain is a big state park with lots to do (golf, biking, archery, lots of trails that are very well marked, petting zoo, very neat trail with rescued owls, turkeys and red hawks, and more)."

ATV riding: The trail system at Chilton County Minooka Park caters specifically to off-road enthusiasts. "Lots of trails to hit on the dirt bikes or ATVs. We go for day riding trips once a month or so," explains one regular visitor. The park also features a dirt track suitable for dirt bikes or RC cars.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers at Gunter Hill consistently mention the generous site dimensions. "The sites are nicely spaced out so even if there had been a lot of people there, it wouldn't have felt too crowded," notes one reviewer. Sites feature concrete pads with nearby gravel areas containing picnic tables and fire rings.

Clean facilities: Brierfield Ironworks Historical Park maintains clean facilities that receive positive mentions. One camper states, "Clean restrooms. Easy in and out," while another notes it's a "Great place to get away and relax."

Historical elements: Many visitors appreciate the preserved historical structures at Brierfield Ironworks. "Creek goes through it. Lots of neat buildings," mentions one reviewer. The park preserves remnants of its ironworking past, though some visitors note "Not much information on what you are looking at or should look for."

    What you should know

Ant preparation: Multiple reviewers at Prairie Creek Campground mention ant issues that require preparation. "Ants, Ants, Ants, Jim the gate guy told us to put comet around tires, didn't have any so trailer was invaded by a horde of little black ants," warns one camper. Another advises, "Be prepared and you'll be fine."

Limited connectivity: Cell service varies significantly between campgrounds. At Prairie Creek, reviewers note "sketchy phone service... we have verizon and had very limited coverage," while at other parks signal strength tends to improve closer to larger towns.

Seasonal considerations: Alabama summers bring high humidity and temperatures. Several campgrounds have limited shade coverage, with one Wind Creek Atmore visitor noting, "Not much shade. We were there in late February so it was ok. Would be hot in summer."

    Tips for camping with families

Water pressure considerations: Some campgrounds have inconsistent water pressure. A Kountry Air RV visitor shares this experience: "I had what I thought a very low water pressure @ my site. Don took the time to unhook my water & show me my filter had collected so much sediment from previous spot, needed to be changed ASAP."
